The camera doesn't work half the time and never works with Windows Hello. The security feature. The right click on the mouse pad is temperamental as well. This is the second one I've had to bring back. I'm taking a break from Windows. The Surface Go line was better than all of this.

The device when received (by shipment) was dented, impacting the keyboard connection. The dent was visible on both sides, which raised concern about its longevity and ability to function without any unknown internal issues. The software is as expected, however not ideal for a laptop replacement due to the battery life. If that is not an issue, then it is a great companion for moving around. It would be good if Microsoft could allow for the stylus use to be more seamless, and also not impacted if the rest of the hand rests on the screen while writing, not everyone can write at that upright position comfortably.

Microsoft Surface is Easy for A Busy Life

The Microsoft - Surface Pro - Copilot+ PC - 12 - Snapdragon X Plus 8 Core - 16GB RAM - 256GB UFS - Device + Keyboard Bundle in platinum is very sleek and a nice way to have both a tablet that doubles as a laptop when attaching the keyboard, a 2 in 1 design. I am a 66-year-old female CPA that has been around, since forever, desktops for work and personal purposes, all Windows systems. I have 2, now grown children, that needed laptops for college, and have recently acquired a Chromebook to carry around since they are relatively inexpensive to travel with in case of theft or damage. However, I have never owned any iteration of the Microsoft Surface, so this is all new to me. Microsoft does a nice job of packaging this product; It is classy, compact, and well protected from possible shipping issues. Inside the package, in its own box, is the platinum tablet, and then the keyboard is packaged in its own box, both combined within a very nice box. So, the point is that this would present itself as a very nice gift. Also, I love the built in kickstand that is on the back side of the tablet itself. The keyboard securely connects magnetically to the tablet to convert to a laptop for data entry and pad control. but this is also a touch screen, too. The package contents include the tablet, the keyboard, and a cord with USB C charging tips at both ends, not even an electrical plug-in adapter, although most of probably already have one. However, how much more would it have cost Microsoft to include a fully functioning charging unit? There is an insert for basic setup but if more is needed logging unto their website would be needed, days of the user manual included within the package is so far in the past. Overall, setup is very intuitive, and I was able to easily link, through my Microsoft account login, this device to others so that my desktop, files, programs, etc. were automatically downloaded and connected. The battery life is great, the screen's visual clarity is verry good, the ability to add devices such as printers, earphones, speakers by blue tooth was seamless, and the overall ease of use and most importantly the ability to carry this device around at any time or anywhere is fabulous.

If you are someone who is not a fan of the Apple ecosystem and have been looking for something on the Windows platform as an alternative, you might have just found it! I have owned a few Surface tablets in my life, starting back with the original one. At first, yes, they were buggy and were a lot more difficult to use than they needed to be. Probably why Apple won the tablet wars early on. But I have to say, the Surface tables have become more and more refined with every generation, and they are finally to the point where they can give the iPad a serious run for their money! Out of the box this is a small, yet well built machine. You can tell that its made from quality materials and a lot of thought was put into the design. This package comes with a detachable keyboard which I actually really liked. I was even shocked to see a backlit keyboard as well. I know a lot of laptops that don’t even have that! For ports, you just get 2 USBC 3.2 ports that can also be used for charging or as display ports. For some reason Microsoft decided not to include a charging brick with these tablets. So, you’re on your own for that. I would think for the price these go for, a charging brick should have been included. There is also no headphone jack on this tablet either. I know some people love to have those, and some don’t care. As far as the specs, this one has 256GB of memory, this is not upgradable and there is no option to add additional storage through a MicroSD card or anything like that. So make sure you get the size you need. The screen is beautiful, it’s a 12” screen with a resolution of 2196x1464. It has the Snapdragon X Plus processor and 16GB of RAM. I found that for most day to day activities, this thing has plenty of power. If you are going to try and do more processor intensive tasks like rendering out video or working with large photo or video files it might get a little bogged down, but I don’t think that is really what these are designed for. They have WiFi and Bluetooth as well as front and rear cameras. The cameras aren’t amazing, but they will definitely get the job done for taking pictures or video conference calls. The tablet comes with the Windows 11 Home operating system. So if you normally use Windows computers in your day-to-day life, you will feel right at home with this tablet. You can install any programs or apps that you would normally use with a Windows machine. But just know that the performance will vary based on what the program is. If you try to use a full blown video editing program, it will not run very well just based on the processing and storage limitations. But for most of your day-to-day office, video streaming, and games that you would find in an app store. If you switch it to portrait mode, then it automatically goes into tablet mode and your main way of navigation is through the touchscreen. I found the touchscreen on this tablet to work amazingly well. It is very responsive and I had no problems with it at all. This tablet is also Surface Pen compatible, although there is not one included with this package. This tablet also has amazing battery life. Often I go 2-3 days without having to recharge it, and I think I use it pretty often. This tablet also has a lot of AI features that are built in. Some of the cool features that may be very useful are the live translate feature. So if you put this tablet in between you and someone you are speaking to that was talking in a different language. The tablet will automatically translate for you. That can be a huge feature if you work, or live in an area with very diverse cultures and you often have to communicate with people that speak other languages. There is also of course the Microsoft Copilot assistant built in. This will allow you to do all of the same things you can do on your regular PC such as asking questions, looking up information, having the program create text or images for you and so forth. There are also cool AI features built into the camera such as automatic framing which will keep you centered in the frame, portrait light which brightens your face during video calls, and eye contact which will adjust your gaze to simulate more direct eye contact on calls even if you may not be looking directly into the camera. So, this tablet is packed to the brim with features and power, all in a very small package that is very easy to take on the go! If you haven’t looked at the Surface tablets in a few years, it might be time to check them out again, cause they are definitely becoming a serious contender in the portable tablet world!

I’ve never used a Microsoft Surface tablet, but I was given a chance to test this one. It’s constructed well, and the screen quality is astounding, even compared to my OLED TV. I have never seen any computer monitor that has such a bright contrast like this before. Despite not being OLED, it visually resembles one, as I can see from the specs.  I consider it lucky that the keyboard was included with this model. It clicked right in and works instantly. It wasn’t necessary to connect or do anything. This is indeed a traditional laptop, which includes an attached keyboard. It would be hard to input text without it unless you use Dragon Medical, which I installed (and works well). It’s just like setting up a regular Windows computer. The update needs to download a lot, so it would take some time. Don’t count on it working immediately. The Snapdragon uses a processor made by Qualcomm. Somehow, Microsoft has made native x86 programs work like magic. Using compatibility settings, I got an old program made for Microsoft 2000/XP to run! The Surface Pen, sold separately, lets you take notes and draw. The 45-watt wall charger is available on its own, but I successfully used it with a USB-C charger.  There is no lag when using it for programs. I can watch videos by streaming via Emby (even remotely), and the quality is excellent. It can be charged using either of the USB-C ports on the side. Sadly, there is no memory card slot, unlike the previous version. This is a problem since I’d like to save files or use video files without internet.  You can save your files to a cloud account thanks to the internet.  Of course, there’s no optical drive. Nowadays, laptops or tablets do not come with one. If you need to read or write to a disk, you have to get an external drive. That is just how it is to keep it thin and lightweight. And hardly anyone uses disks now.  Do not expect this to have a mechanical keyboard— it just doesn’t come with one. And if you need one, just buy it. It is not made for long-term typing, but with the built-in artificial intelligence, you may be able to voice dictate what you need to write.  With 16GB of RAM, that should suffice for nearly every business program. This is an ideal tablet/laptop for traveling business people. Other laptops are more powerful, but they are too heavy for portability. This one is almost perfect in its point range. I love looking at the screen; it is so clear, contrasty, and bright.  I think it can do everything a college student needs. Though it can run some games, the hard drive is not that large (for games), and the processor isn’t for gaming. This computer should be kept for daily use. It would not be something I personally would turn down if I were a freshman going away to college. Did I mention that it is not heavy? Carrying a heavy laptop to class can be a drag.  The price falls within an affordable scope. It’s not overpriced for something of good quality. Get a sturdy case to prevent damage. Make sure it’s charged at home before your trip. Also, if you need external power, any external battery pack will work because you can easily connect it with the USB-C cable.  Aside from the missing memory card slot, you can access the internet to upload and download files to cloud accounts, with lots to pick from. This light, well-made, fast tablet-laptop with a beautiful screen is highly recommended.

I've been a long time user of surface products. Coming from the surface pro 3, pro 4, pro 6 and pro 8 while sidestepping across the go 2 and laptop 4. I can say this is a bag of mixed feelings. To keep this short, if your current use case is with modern apps and online/cloud based productivity software. This could serve your needs just fine. However, if you like experimenting with software, interconnecting with older devices such as printers, drawing tablets and/or other connected devices, there's a potential for issues. While this isn't a gaming device, it can handle simple clickers, which many may not be optimized for this type of PC. Key takeaways + These seem like the thinnest and lightest in the surface current lineup (1.5 pound and 0.3 inch thick), certainly a smaller profile than my previous Pro models. + Powered by the Snapdragon X Plus processor, which includes a 45 TOPS NPU for AI tasks. + The ARM chip and hardware give this very long battery life with claims of 23 hours of video playback and 16 hours of web browsing. + Limited to 2x USB-C 3.2 Gen.2 ports with no upgradeable components. + Unlike prior models, the surface pen now attaches to the back of the case, instead of the side. Which is less practical. Like most Surface products, this arrives in a premium aluminum shell. It's passively cooled for a no-noise, distraction free user experience. Using it as a tablet is not ideal with Windows as the OS. Using a touchpad or mouse is essential. With these NPU-equipped chips, the AI PC is becoming the new standard, with features like Copilot, and Recall at it's core. The display is premium and offers a high visual fidelity experience, with smooth animations, vivid colors and accurate touch controls, not a huge shift from previous generations. With the current lineups shift to ARM, these new gen 2-in-1 tablets offer substantial battery life increases. This is most notable with standard everyday use and while in standby. However, this same transition is likely to introduce compatibility issues. While Microsoft’s Prism emulator improves compatibility with x64 apps, legacy software may still not work well on ARM-based Windows. For the average user, where your needs will encompass email, banking, web browsing, and shopping, these units will be worth 5-stars. However, for more technical users that need to pair a variety of software or hardware, this will be worth 3-stars. A powerhouse with productivity tasks-ARM architecture could be issues.

The Microsoft Surface Pro is a 12" tablet with an attachable keyboard and a Windows 11 operating system. Because it has a Snapdragon ARM-based CPU it is not the same as a Win 11 laptop or PC with an AMD or Intel x86-based CPU. If you are not aware of the difference you should research it. Not all apps, (especially gaming apps) that run on an AMD or Intel CPU equipped device have a version that runs on a Snapdragon equipped device. This package, the tablet plus keyboard, comes with only a USB-C cable, NO charger. It requires a minimum 27 Watt or higher USB-C charger, so if you don't have one, you'll need to buy one. The small 5-Watt ones won't work, but if you have a 27 Watt or greater USB-C laptop charger it will work. The Surface Pro will only draw the power it needs. The tablet has simple controls- a power button and volume button. It has 2 USB-C ports, that's it. There are no other ports, no SD card slot and no headphone jack. Besides the fact of no charger included and limited ports, there's a lot to like about this Surface Pro! It's a great portable personal tablet/PC device. It's packed with the latest technology- Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus CPU, Qualcomm Hexagon NPU (neural processing unit) 256 GB UFS storage, and 16 GB RAM- making it capable of easily handling resource intensive tasks or applications or multitasking in everyday use. The 12" display, Microsoft's PixelSense Flow touch screen, has terrific image quality. It has HDR for video streaming and a screen resolution of 2196 x 1464. Not quite true 2K but a noticeable step up from FHD 1080p. I watched a movie on it and the picture was absolutely gorgeous. Also, the Qualcomm Aqstic Audio is outstanding - very immersive, clear and crisp. Impressive sound from such a small device. The tablet has a front and back camera and array mic. The keyboard easily magnetically attaches to the tablet and is held firmly in place, and also is easily detached. The keyboard keys have a smooth feel to them, and I was pleased and impressed to see that it's backlit. The tablet has a kickstand that folds out from the back to hold it up so it can be used like a laptop/PC. Both the tablet and keyboard are very high quality that's apparent in both look and feel. Lastly, battery life is advertised to be 16 hours, but of course that depends on how it's used. Based on my usage, I'd say you can expect at least 10 hours. Overall, to me the positives of build quality, component quality, portability, display quality, and sound quality far outweigh the few negatives of some app limitations due to the ARM-based Snapdragon CPU, extra cost of a charger if you don't have one, and limited ports. Some may also view 256 GB of storage as too limited, but for the average everyday user 256 GB is more than enough. I think this Surface Pro is a great choice for anyone looking for a small portable tablet/pc.

Beautiful Hardware and Software that's Catching Up

The Surface Pro 12” (2025) is thinner, lighter, and more comfortable to hold than earlier versions. I owned the Pro 6 back in the late 2010s. I had to return it because it was not a good tablet and the Windows app store was so poor in quality. I also tried the Microsoft Surface RT, their first ARM CPU tablet. I returned that one as well. The new Surface Pro has a redesigned fanless body and rounded edges on the kickstand. Everything on the whole device feels smoother and more seamless. This is probably the best looking and nicest feeling tablet over 11 inches that I've owned. It's balanced, not heavy, it's not overtly large or unwieldy. It's the best Surface Pro hardware Microsoft has released. The display is a 12‑inch IPS LCD with a 90 Hz refresh rate. Indoors, it looks fine, but outdoors and under lamps it struggles with reflections. It doesn’t match the OLED or 120 Hz options available on the larger Surface Pro or the competition, but the 90 Hz panel balances smoothness and efficiency. The speakers sound clear, balanced, and get loud enough to fill a room. Watching videos or listening to music was just as enjoyable as any tablet I've used. The keyboard has been redesigned too. It no longer offers an angled typing position like the previous Surface tablets or the newest Surface 13 inch. The magnet is still very strong and it attaches and detaches quickly. You feel confident that it’s not going to disconnect with a simple light tug or bump. Typing feels comfortable thanks to decently sized keys. The keys are backlit keys, a large trackpad, and the rubberized finish on the top. The bottom of the keyboard is layered with felt that makes it feel premium. In spite of the positives the keyboard is still best used on a desk or table. It's not incredibly comfortable on your lap and a bit difficult to maintain on there. The brains come from Qualcomm’s second fastest Windows ARM chip - the Snapdragon X Plus chip, sitting just below the flagship Snapdragon X Elite in Qualcomm’s lineup. For everyday tasks like browsing the web, checking email, video meetings, or streaming media, it runs smoothly and stays completely silent because there are no fans. Even while in efficiency mode, it feels snappy and responsive. However, storage is UFS rather than SSD, which is slower, and because of this I would avoid the entry‑level 256 GB option. Microsoft also removed the Surface Connect port, so charging now happens only through USB‑C. I don’t mind that choice at all, USB-C should be a universal standard with devices. I just wish companies would agree on a standard charging and communication protocol over USB-C. Both ports are placed on the right side, which can be inconvenient. They should put one on each side. Both ports are USB 3.2 at 10 Gbps and support PD + Fast Charging (45W+). I really wish they would have included Thunderbolt at least on one of the ports. Battery life is a strong suit of this device. In everyday use, I get around eight to nine hours, easily. The Surface Pro 12-inch is a solid choice, especially for students or anyone who needs a secondary device with a proper desktop OS and a good keyboard. Plus, the fact that it's silent (no annoying fan!) and reasonably priced makes it even better. Though there is a caveat with the software as there are limitations. Windows on ARM has improved a lot, and popular apps like Microsoft Office run well. But older or less common programs may still have compatibility issues. More importantly, Windows is still a desktop‑first operating system. When the keyboard is detached, the interface becomes more touch‑friendly, but it’s not as smooth or intuitive as iPadOS or Android. The Microsoft Store, even though better than when I owned the Pro 6, still lags far behind Apple’s App Store and Google Play in terms of app variety and quality. The Surface Pro 12”, like all Windows on ARM devices, includes a built-in compatibility layer that lets it run many traditional Windows programs designed for x86 and x64 processors. Though, apps compiled for ARM64 run natively, offering better performance and efficiency. This means that while the Surface Pro 12‑inch is closer to being a true tablet than past models, it’s not there yet. I think a part of it not being there is the display scaling is not there to make an easy to use tablet (when the keyboard is disconnected). There isn’t a charger in the box, which feels like a cost‑cutting move so once you add the pen, keyboard, and charger, the total cost is far from budget‑friendly. Its portability, premium build, and excellent battery life make it attractive, even with the compromises. If you need more from your laptop than you’re better off with a clamshell formfactor laptop. In the end, the Surface Pro 12‑inch is Microsoft’s best attempt so far at creating a tablet‑like device - it just isn’t a great tablet. Windows remains desktop‑focused, app support is uneven for ARM, and the experience doesn’t match the polish of an iPad or Android tablet even if those are touch app-first operating systems. I wonder which of these operating systems is going to finally figure out the formula for a device that works great as a tablet and a laptop. This one is not yet there, but it’s moving in the right direction.

I have owned several Microsoft surface devices over the years and have always enjoyed the form factor. There are many windows and some Linux tablets available; or however, if you have the built-in metal hinge and stand attached to the tablet. Several other windows tablets are more like an iPad, have a magnetically attached back cover, which can fall off or slide off fairly easily. Stripped of the keyboard, the metal hinge built into the tablet makes the surface pro easy to carry without a case. The performance is excellent. The screen is very good and is LCD not OLED the sound is fairly good in my opinion about as good as a iPad Air, but not as good as a four speaker iPad Pro. It is adequate for media, including some music and the 12 inch screen size is superior to the 10.5 inch surface go or similarly sized iPads. I had been hesitant to own an arm based Windows PC related to the compatibility issues. In the last few years, many major programs have an arm native Windows 64 version. Nearly all of the commonly used Microsoft products have been joined by other common products, including Libre Office, and brave. I tested the arm native brave against the most updated arm based edge and found the brave faster – perhaps related to default ad blocking. There is A built-in on the fly emulator Which can supposedly run almost any Windows 64 program. You may run into issues if you have older non-updated 32 bit Windows programs. The keyboard and trackpad are excellent. The combination of the keyboard, surface pro and separately purchased surface Flat pen is just over 2 pounds. This competes well with a iPad Pro with a very expensive Apple keyboard, but is heavier more than a surface go with keyboard. The weight is comparable to my HP11 tablet, which is smaller. Note that the latest version of Windows 11 have the improved recall feature, Which, in my opinion remains a privacy risk. Also, Windows requires an online account, not only a local account. Regardless of Windows drawbacks it is nice to have a tablet that can run almost any program, including some older games without issues. When I travel if I do not bring a Windows device I find that I am unable to complete various tasks, including browser based tasks.

    A Nice Surface (Tablet)

Nice Surface with a nice color and kind of soft-material case that covers it (it is also the back of the keyboard). It is a great size to have for portability and use as a small desktop depending on what you are doing. It is not heavy, and it is comfortable to use. And of course, you don’t have to keep the keyboard connected. There is a kickstand that feels sturdy for propping it up for table use. You get two USB-C ports on the bottom. There is no power port or power plug (to plug into the wall). That part is disappointing. I can obviously by a separate plug that accepts USB-C, but that’s extra. I’ll admit, I did not like the type of port my previous Surface used (for power plugging), it was weird, long and always forced the plug in one direction; you would have to keep flipping it depending on how/where you needed the Surface to sit. So that is good. But somethings still need a power plug. There are not enough ports wherever for everything to always be connected and I don’t want a USB hub. Performance is good. Display is nice, bright and clear. Text, pictures and video all look excellent. Audio is fine. Battery life is good – lasting more than the day. The Surface can handle the things I use it for – regular use, office/productivity, internet, audio, video. The touchscreen works well and is responsive; and the same for the keyboard (keys and trackpad). If you view this as a tablet first… with tabletop (like a baby desktop) capabilities, then you are looking in the right direction. My favorite thing about this is the right portability size and the keyboard, which flips over to cover the screen, showing a nice material cover. If you want a 12” tablet with a keyboard, then get it, as it is more of that than a Surface laptop.

The Microsoft Surface Pro Copilot+ PC 12 with the Snapdragon X Plus chip and case is an all in one solution and offering from Microsoft. This lightweight portable compact 2-1 device comes loaded with features for everyday tasks that are great for on the go or mobile needs. Pros: Lightweight Battery Life- 7 hours nominal use Bright Screen Powerful Cpu Cons: Tradeoff from previous Version Not many Ports Strains under heavy usage Review: My time with this tablet was over a few days worth of work, I had to wait a few days because- it doesn't include a wall plug in adapter just the charge cord. So I had to order me a powerful 65w plug. Once that was in I was off to the races, quickly installation and setup. It allowed me to quickly migrate my current desktop to the device. After all the updates it took roughly 25 minutes to get going. I was back in business writing in my document which had 480 pages in word, which i did notice it bogged a little trying to load all at once. But after a minute it smoothed out. Now where i had it under heavy usage was playing music, an excel sheet up and my word document, it tended to get a little slow in transitions. I believe maybe it was my data sets in excel i was running. Overall the keyboard that comes with it is very responsive, I notice they changed the connection design from the upgrade they had last year. It didn't give me any issues , just something I noticed on this version. Final Thoughts: This device is leaps an bound better than those on the market i have used from other companies. It does the job and it is slick. The screen is super bright in sunny areas so I loved that.

This Surface Pro is a perfect alternative to an iPad or Android tablet. If you only need web applications, and access to Microsoft Office or to consume media this tablet is great. The ARM processor is great for power use and speed when you need a computer on the go that works like a tablet but still can be a productivity tool. In terms of hardware, the screen/display and sound is great. The keyboard is what you'd expect to see from Microsoft and feels pretty solid with the right feel for typing and using it wherever you go. I think it's just the right size to take with you on the go. The touchpad has a nice feel and is responsive but not too sensitive. It comes with a USB-C charging cable so you can charge it wherever you go, but doesn't come with the AC adapter, so make sure you either have one already or get one with this. The only thing to be aware of with the ARM processor is that some programs which don't have ARM support may not work properly. Microsoft has a list of compatible software so if you have a specific program you need to run you should check to see if it's listed first. There are some on the list that do work that are not listed and they are updating compatibility all the time. The programs you might run into issues in emulation are with are those with specific graphics requirements or work with special hardware. In a nutshell, if you want a tablet that's like a computer for certain tasks like email, and office applications this little tablet is great. It's fast, has great battery life and works pretty good. I'd recommend it if you don't need to do gaming or have special apps or programs you need to use that are not on the compatibility list.

I’ve been able to spend a few days with the Surface Pro 12, a portable PC tablet with a 12” touchscreen LCD screen, a Snapdragon X Plus 8 core processor, and 16 GB of Ram. Storage is at 256 GB of RAM, and it comes with 2 USB-C ports. This bundle includes a keyboard that snaps into place, and has a nice Alcantara finish on the backside, and the tablet itself feels nice and premium. I’m going to get some of my dislikes out right off the bat. First, no power supply in the box. Just a USB C cable. Microsoft says that any 27W or higher USB-C supply should work. Unfortunately, I don’t have anything higher than a 20 Watt power supply sitting around, so charging is extremely slow and the cable and the power supply I have get very warm. That means that I will have to buy an additional power supply capable of charging the Surface Pro 12. In the past, the Surfaces that I purchased came with a power port unique to the Surfaces, so one of the USB ports didn’t have to be utilized for a power input. Not happening on this Surface Pro. Speaking of USB ports, all this tablet comes with are two USB-C/3.2 plugs. If you are hoping for wired connectivity, this will be a limited factor. My last gripe has to do with the kickstand that the Surfaces come with. It is virtually impossible to place the Surfaces Pro 12 on your lap and type on it. It doesn’t sit on the legs well, due to the design of the kickstand. I keep hoping that Microsoft will figure out something different here, but it’s still the same design as the Surface Pro that I have from several years ago. Okay, now that my griping is done, onto the good. In use, the Surface Pro 12 was snappy, never got hot, never got bogged down through use, never stuttered, locked up, or hesitated; it simply worked and did so very well. And the battery life was absolutely outstanding. I went a full day of use, never turning the screen off, using the Microsoft suite of programs, watching Netflix, browsing the web, and responding to emails and still had half a battery left at night. Two thumbs up for that! Another plus is the keyboard. Very responsive, has a great feel, and easy to type on. In conclusion, pretty happy with this unit. Connectivity is a little sparse for me, I could have really used an added standard USB port (yeah, I still have a lot of peripherals that have the ‘old’ USB connections), and I was a little disappointed in the screen brightness and the lack of a power supply. But otherwise, I think this is a great little tablet that fits well into its price point.
