Customers are positive about the Surface Pro's portability, battery life, and build quality. Many users find the device performs well, with a fast processor and a bright screen, while remaining lightweight and dissipating heat effectively. However, some customers are negative about the limited port selection and the storage capacity. The form factor of the 12" screen is also a point of discussion.

Whenever I acquire new electronics I like to ask myself what it is that I need it for. In the case of the Microsoft - Surface Pro - Copilot+ PC - 12” I was looking for a small media consumption device with great battery life. It was not my intent to replace my performance laptop. One of my most favorite laptops over the years was a Microsoft Surface. This Surface Pro still has that same DNA. The 12” form factor is one of smaller screens and the included keyboard compliments it very well. In the hand the Surface Pro feels premium with its aluminum body and rounded corners. The screen is crisp and colorfull although I do wish it would get a bit brighter. The keyboard has a fabric feeling material on the outside and a smooth soft feeling material on the working side. The touchpad feels very good but maybe a bit on the big side for such a small device as my hand has hits it accidently. The keyboard is responsive and I have no problems with placement or typing feel. I do miss not having a backlight as it would have a nice addition. The Surface Pro is lite and I do like the build quality. There are only two USB-C 3.2 ports but they both support charging and DisplayPort 1.4. There was no included charging adapter although a USB charging cable was included. The Surface Pro has 16 gigabytes of LPDDR5X ram and a 256GB UFS storage drive. That's not a lot of storage but fine for my use case. The Snapdragon X Plus 8 Core processor feels very fast. As this is my first notebook with a Snapdragon CPU I did have some concerns. But in my daily use it has been a non issue. The applications I wanted to install were all available and ran without issue except my bluetooth headphones. They connect and disconnect during video playback and I have yet to understand why. But other than that one issue If I didn’t know it was a Snapdragon CPU and not an Intel or AMD CPU I could not tell you which it had. The full support for Copilot+ PC is still new for me. I plan to take advantage of the new tech so I did want to have it included. I have started some new craft hobbies and I expect to use Copilot+ to help me use new tools and methods and speed up my learning. Finally the primary thing I wanted besides the smaller form factor was great battery life. My performance laptop has a dedicated GPU. It's loud, gets hot and you really need to keep your power brick nearby. None of that is true with this Surface Pro. It is quiet, doesn’t get hot and in my testing I have gotten 10 hours of battery use in a few sessions and still had battery left. This was exactly what I was hoping for and the Surface Pro delivers on my needs perfectly.

If you are someone who is not a fan of the Apple ecosystem and have been looking for something on the Windows platform as an alternative, you might have just found it! I have owned a few Surface tablets in my life, starting back with the original one. At first, yes, they were buggy and were a lot more difficult to use than they needed to be. Probably why Apple won the tablet wars early on. But I have to say, the Surface tables have become more and more refined with every generation, and they are finally to the point where they can give the iPad a serious run for their money!
Out of the box this is a small, yet well built machine. You can tell that its made from quality materials and a lot of thought was put into the design. This package comes with a detachable keyboard which I actually really liked. I was even shocked to see a backlit keyboard as well. I know a lot of laptops that don’t even have that! For ports, you just get 2 USBC 3.2 ports that can also be used for charging or as display ports. For some reason Microsoft decided not to include a charging brick with these tablets. So, you’re on your own for that. I would think for the price these go for, a charging brick should have been included. There is also no headphone jack on this tablet either. I know some people love to have those, and some don’t care. As far as the specs, this one has 256GB of memory, this is not upgradable and there is no option to add additional storage through a MicroSD card or anything like that. So make sure you get the size you need. The screen is beautiful, it’s a 12” screen with a resolution of 2196x1464. It has the Snapdragon X Plus processor and 16GB of RAM. I found that for most day to day activities, this thing has plenty of power. If you are going to try and do more processor intensive tasks like rendering out video or working with large photo or video files it might get a little bogged down, but I don’t think that is really what these are designed for. They have WiFi and Bluetooth as well as front and rear cameras. The cameras aren’t amazing, but they will definitely get the job done for taking pictures or video conference calls.
The tablet comes with the Windows 11 Home operating system. So if you normally use Windows computers in your day-to-day life, you will feel right at home with this tablet. You can install any programs or apps that you would normally use with a Windows machine. But just know that the performance will vary based on what the program is. If you try to use a full blown video editing program, it will not run very well just based on the processing and storage limitations. But for most of your day-to-day office, video streaming, and games that you would find in an app store. If you switch it to portrait mode, then it automatically goes into tablet mode and your main way of navigation is through the touchscreen. I found the touchscreen on this tablet to work amazingly well. It is very responsive and I had no problems with it at all. This tablet is also Surface Pen compatible, although there is not one included with this package.
This tablet also has amazing battery life. Often I go 2-3 days without having to recharge it, and I think I use it pretty often.
This tablet also has a lot of AI features that are built in. Some of the cool features that may be very useful are the live translate feature. So if you put this tablet in between you and someone you are speaking to that was talking in a different language. The tablet will automatically translate for you. That can be a huge feature if you work, or live in an area with very diverse cultures and you often have to communicate with people that speak other languages.
There is also of course the Microsoft Copilot assistant built in. This will allow you to do all of the same things you can do on your regular PC such as asking questions, looking up information, having the program create text or images for you and so forth.
There are also cool AI features built into the camera such as automatic framing which will keep you centered in the frame, portrait light which brightens your face during video calls, and eye contact which will adjust your gaze to simulate more direct eye contact on calls even if you may not be looking directly into the camera.
So, this tablet is packed to the brim with features and power, all in a very small package that is very easy to take on the go! If you haven’t looked at the Surface tablets in a few years, it might be time to check them out again, cause they are definitely becoming a serious contender in the portable tablet world!

The camera doesn't work half the time and never works with Windows Hello. The security feature. The right click on the mouse pad is temperamental as well. This is the second one I've had to bring back. I'm taking a break from Windows. The Surface Go line was better than all of this.

Dented Tablet

The device when received (by shipment) was dented, impacting the keyboard connection. The dent was visible on both sides, which raised concern about its longevity and ability to function without any unknown internal issues.
The software is as expected, however not ideal for a laptop replacement due to the battery life. If that is not an issue, then it is a great companion for moving around.
It would be good if Microsoft could allow for the stylus use to be more seamless, and also not impacted if the rest of the hand rests on the screen while writing, not everyone can write at that upright position comfortably.

I’ve been able to spend a few days with the Surface Pro 12, a portable PC tablet with a 12” touchscreen LCD screen, a Snapdragon X Plus 8 core processor, and 16 GB of Ram. Storage is at 256 GB of RAM, and it comes with 2 USB-C ports. This bundle includes a keyboard that snaps into place, and has a nice Alcantara finish on the backside, and the tablet itself feels nice and premium.
I’m going to get some of my dislikes out right off the bat. First, no power supply in the box. Just a USB C cable. Microsoft says that any 27W or higher USB-C supply should work. Unfortunately, I don’t have anything higher than a 20 Watt power supply sitting around, so charging is extremely slow and the cable and the power supply I have get very warm. That means that I will have to buy an additional power supply capable of charging the Surface Pro 12. In the past, the Surfaces that I purchased came with a power port unique to the Surfaces, so one of the USB ports didn’t have to be utilized for a power input. Not happening on this Surface Pro.
Speaking of USB ports, all this tablet comes with are two USB-C/3.2 plugs. If you are hoping for wired connectivity, this will be a limited factor.
My last gripe has to do with the kickstand that the Surfaces come with. It is virtually impossible to place the Surfaces Pro 12 on your lap and type on it. It doesn’t sit on the legs well, due to the design of the kickstand. I keep hoping that Microsoft will figure out something different here, but it’s still the same design as the Surface Pro that I have from several years ago.
Okay, now that my griping is done, onto the good. In use, the Surface Pro 12 was snappy, never got hot, never got bogged down through use, never stuttered, locked up, or hesitated; it simply worked and did so very well. And the battery life was absolutely outstanding. I went a full day of use, never turning the screen off, using the Microsoft suite of programs, watching Netflix, browsing the web, and responding to emails and still had half a battery left at night. Two thumbs up for that! Another plus is the keyboard. Very responsive, has a great feel, and easy to type on.
In conclusion, pretty happy with this unit. Connectivity is a little sparse for me, I could have really used an added standard USB port (yeah, I still have a lot of peripherals that have the ‘old’ USB connections), and I was a little disappointed in the screen brightness and the lack of a power supply. But otherwise, I think this is a great little tablet that fits well into its price point.

The Microsoft Surface Pro is a 12" tablet with an attachable keyboard and a Windows 11 operating system. Because it has a Snapdragon ARM-based CPU it is not the same as a Win 11 laptop or PC with an AMD or Intel x86-based CPU. If you are not aware of the difference you should research it. Not all apps, (especially gaming apps) that run on an AMD or Intel CPU equipped device have a version that runs on a Snapdragon equipped device.
This package, the tablet plus keyboard, comes with only a USB-C cable, NO charger. It requires a minimum 27 Watt or higher USB-C charger, so if you don't have one, you'll need to buy one. The small 5-Watt ones won't work, but if you have a 27 Watt or greater USB-C laptop charger it will work. The Surface Pro will only draw the power it needs.
The tablet has simple controls- a power button and volume button. It has 2 USB-C ports, that's it. There are no other ports, no SD card slot and no headphone jack.
Besides the fact of no charger included and limited ports, there's a lot to like about this Surface Pro! It's a great portable personal tablet/PC device. It's packed with the latest technology- Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus CPU, Qualcomm Hexagon NPU (neural processing unit) 256 GB UFS storage, and 16 GB RAM- making it capable of easily handling resource intensive tasks or applications or multitasking in everyday use.
The 12" display, Microsoft's PixelSense Flow touch screen, has terrific image quality. It has HDR for video streaming and a screen resolution of 2196 x 1464. Not quite true 2K but a noticeable step up from FHD 1080p. I watched a movie on it and the picture was absolutely gorgeous. Also, the Qualcomm Aqstic Audio is outstanding - very immersive, clear and crisp. Impressive sound from such a small device. The tablet has a front and back camera and array mic.
The keyboard easily magnetically attaches to the tablet and is held firmly in place, and also is easily detached. The keyboard keys have a smooth feel to them, and I was pleased and impressed to see that it's backlit. The tablet has a kickstand that folds out from the back to hold it up so it can be used like a laptop/PC. Both the tablet and keyboard are very high quality that's apparent in both look and feel. Lastly, battery life is advertised to be 16 hours, but of course that depends on how it's used. Based on my usage, I'd say you can expect at least 10 hours.
Overall, to me the positives of build quality, component quality, portability, display quality, and sound quality far outweigh the few negatives of some app limitations due to the ARM-based Snapdragon CPU, extra cost of a charger if you don't have one, and limited ports. Some may also view 256 GB of storage as too limited, but for the average everyday user 256 GB is more than enough. I think this Surface Pro is a great choice for anyone looking for a small portable tablet/pc.

Lightweight, fast, great alternative to an iPad

This Surface Pro is a perfect alternative to an iPad or Android tablet. If you only need web applications, and access to Microsoft Office or to consume media this tablet is great. The ARM processor is great for power use and speed when you need a computer on the go that works like a tablet but still can be a productivity tool.
In terms of hardware, the screen/display and sound is great. The keyboard is what you'd expect to see from Microsoft and feels pretty solid with the right feel for typing and using it wherever you go. I think it's just the right size to take with you on the go. The touchpad has a nice feel and is responsive but not too sensitive. It comes with a USB-C charging cable so you can charge it wherever you go, but doesn't come with the AC adapter, so make sure you either have one already or get one with this.
The only thing to be aware of with the ARM processor is that some programs which don't have ARM support may not work properly. Microsoft has a list of compatible software so if you have a specific program you need to run you should check to see if it's listed first. There are some on the list that do work that are not listed and they are updating compatibility all the time. The programs you might run into issues in emulation are with are those with specific graphics requirements or work with special hardware.
In a nutshell, if you want a tablet that's like a computer for certain tasks like email, and office applications this little tablet is great. It's fast, has great battery life and works pretty good. I'd recommend it if you don't need to do gaming or have special apps or programs you need to use that are not on the compatibility list.
