    This Completes the Package

I bought my Microsoft Surface from the Microsoft Store in San Diego on Black Friday without the Touch Cover because I had a couple of Bluetooth keyboards on hand. These keyboards worked well for most situations; however, the lack of a touchpad forced me to depend on the touchscreen or a mouse while I typed. Adding the Touch Cover allows me to eliminate two additional pieces of hardware from my tablet bag and provide added protection for my Surface. I choose the cyan cover because I have the Nokia Lumia 900 in cyan and they match fairly well. My only complain is not about the product but about the process of buying it at my local Best Buy. I won't go into details only to say that I hope the Store Management places a higher priority on the Surface product line and give it the attention it needs to be successful. I am kind of partial to the product and it should be given the same treatment that other high profile products get in the store.

I have deployed several Surface Pro 2 tablet with the Touch Cover to employees (I'm the IT guy). The Touch Cover was purchased as part of a bundle with all of them. I do all of the setup and configuration for the user. The touch cover really is a piece of junk and I find it hard to believe why so many people are rating this thing with 4 or 5 starts. I can type upwards of 130 WPM. On the Touch Keyboard, not only can I only type about 35 WPM, I have to look at the keyboard when I type. We require complex passwords, so to hit the shift key, CTRL, ALT, or special characters is next to impossible without stopping and looking. It's a flat keyboard, no delineation of actual KEYS. For people who are actually typists, this Touch Cover Keyboard doesn't even come close. Every employee has asked if they can purchase a different keyboard and I have said YES to each of them. I wouldn't even recommend it to an enemy, let alone a friend. I'm not one of those people who gives ratings online in general, but I felt the need to weight in on this. I buy things in part, based on user reviews. Are they all lying to themselves?

Convenient but for the avid typist not recommended

Don't get me wrong but the surface touch keyboard actually does a very good job and registering clicks but don't expect to do anything with it other than light typing. Microsoft should definitely be commended for making a keyboard this responsive with such a good form factor. The seam of the keyboard seems to be susceptible to coming apart from the plastic hinge that attaches to the Surface. But that is mostly a roll of the dice, some seem to be more susceptible than other so if you get a faulty one I would suggest to return for a new one. This is one thing I recommend all new buyers to check for. I actually use it to for school to take notes and to chat with friends. But don't expect to do heavy typing. I average roughly 95 wps on my desktop. On a typical laptop keyboard like Sony's island design I will average 80 wps. On the Surface touch keyboard I sit closer to 55. Most of my mistakes come from clicking the empty area between the trackpad and the spacebar, missing the spacebar. So DO expect a drop in typing speed.

A must-have addition to the Surface Pro

I tried both the type and touch covers in the store and actually preferred the the touch cover. I find that my typing accuracy is much higher with the touch cover than the type. Also I find the 'tick' noise the tablet makes when typing to be sufficient feedback. Don't dismiss this thing out of hand, but you definitely have to try it before you buy. It can also fold up behind the tablet which is very convenient. Only real complaint is that there are no dedicated Function keys - you can use the Fn button with the symbols on the top row to get F-Key functionality, but those buttons are not marked, so you have to count over from ESC to do it. I have also needed the 'Pause' button from a full keyboard, and it is not present on this one.

    Does it get dirty?

For those of you wondering if the touch cover gets dirty easily because it is white, the answer is NO. I have had my white touch cover for over a month now and there isn't a mark/smudge/stain on it anywhere. I have taken it to school and carried it around in my backpack. I have taken it to work as well (I work at a hobby shop and its actually pretty dusty and dirty). My hands are never super dirty so I cant say how clean it will stay in that situation, but after a month of general use at home, school and work, the front cover and the keyboard have stayed extremely clean. If it does happen to get dirty, the covers are water resistant so cleaning it should be easy.

I love my Surface keyboard and cover - it seamlessly connects to the Surface and has the full functionality of a real keyboard - PLUS the mouse (so some glitch touch screen functions on websites that aren't compatible can be navigated through!). Although it took just a little bit to get used to not pushing down keys - rather they are just flat touch buttons - it works great. Not to mention I feel safe carrying my Surface around knowing my screen won't get scratched and I can still easily use the kickstand so it's like my mini laptop. Only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is that it had me scared at first because it took a few tries for it to work. I'm not sure why or what magically changed (I was getting on my Surface for probably the 6th time with the keyboard to call support after troubleshooting, then it finally worked) - but nothing but the keypad worked for awhile. Guessing it was a system update. Regardless, it works now and I love it!

You don't necessarily HAVE to have a keyboard for use with the Microsoft Surface, because you can use the onscreen keyboard, but I like having the ability to use a regular mouse and keyboard for some applications. You can also save some money and connect a regular mouse and keyboard via USB to the Surface, but the Touch Cover is portable and doubles as a cover, so to me it's the best of both worlds. Plus it connects to the surface via a magnet connection that is super neat and easy, and leaves your USB port free for other uses. I thought about getting the Type Cover instead because it's more like a regular keyboard with actual keys, because I was afraid it would be difficult to get used to the Touch Cover (which has no actual keys). It was not hard at all. I am glad I bought the touch cover and saved some money over the type cover.

Purchased at the same time as my Surface Pro, works great! It is a little different than using a keyboard...the flat surface feels different, but for me has been easy to adjust to. I must admit, I haven't used for extended periods of time, letters, etc. My use has been limited to a few emails, memos, etc. It might be a more difficult adjustment for someone who is a heavy typist. It has also worked great for protecting my screen from scratches (I do hope to get my screen protector this week.) The magnetic connection works great and I love the fact that when you flip it to the back, the Surface automatically recognizes it and you can use the on screen keyboard. My only complaint is the cost...it's pretty expensive...if they were cheaper, I would probably buy another just to have a different color or design!

This flat sealed keyboard covered in a soft blue cloth like feeling surface is water resistant and works great, especially for the road warriors out there who set up their computer on every dirty diner table and near where coffee could be spilled at any moment this keyboard is safe and sound, a quick wipe off with a napkin and you are set and typing again in moments without needing to clean between and under mechanical keys. That said the flat surface with no tactile feedback takes some getting used to but it works as advertised, the powerful magnets easily pull the keyboard to the right spot to link up flawlessly every time. No need to play with the connection ever.

Overall, this is a nice touch pad...much better than I anticipated. It can handle my fast type for the most part without too many issues. I do notice that sometimes the s or the a key are a bit more sensitive and add themselves if I brush against them. I also notice I have to tap strongly on a few of the other keys. Still, it keeps pace pretty well considering its reduced size and the fact that it is not an actual 'type-key' setup. I do wish that, for the cost, this item was included with the Surface Pro rather than an additional purchase item. A keyboard/touchpad is a necessary item for that computer to be really functional. The pad also appears to be relatively sturdy considering how thin it is. I have the light blue, which is not (as of yet) picking up too much dirt.

    Keyboard for MS Surface

I teach at a local university, using a tablet containing my lecture notes. When my old tablet failed, I found the perfect replacement in the MS Surface. It has a touch-screen keyboard, but I felt a real keyboard was necessary to cover the screen and enable faster work. There are two keyboards available: This one that is less expensive, but effective. The "keys" don't move, however. The other one cost more because the keys do move like a laptop. I'm sure it's fine, but I'm happy with the less expensive one. It works! It's light-weight! It's just what I needed.

You NEED this if you are getting Surface!!

I definitely recommend buying a touch cover with your Surface RT (or Pro), it turns the surface into a fully functional and totally portable laptop with the super responsive touchpad doubling as a screen protector when not in use. It is durable yet slim and very easy to attach (and stays attached!). Since it is a flat surface with no "give" to the keys, expert typists may need a few hours to adjust to the new feel in order to get full use of the keyboard as they would with a traditional button based keyboard. I find it getting dusty quickly but it cleans easy with a damp towel. After getting it my only regret is not getting the blue one... the red just isn't the color I wanted it to be. Other than that it is perfect :)

It does what it has to do and for someone who uses their surface predominantly to take notes in class, the small surface area and portability is a big plus. However, I'd recommend if you can afford the full touch version to go for it. The keys aren't always responsive and even the best typist will find themselves making a lot of mistakes. It can be a bit frustrating. Also it will seem like you are rubbing the color off. Don't panic, it seems like the dirt on your skin is attracted to the material. just wipe it off with a cloth and it will be good as new :)

While it may be abit pricey, I'm totally happy with the purchase of the Touch Cover for the Microsoft Surface. It has eliminated the need to constantly clean the screen as well as make sure that nothing accidentally damages the Surface while just sitting on the counter. Additionally, having the Touch Cover eliminates having the screen keyboard from appearing thus keeping the largest of whatever I'm working on, as is. For me, this is a definite plus! All in all, I am happy with the purchase and have gotten use to the different touch of the keyboard, which by the way, did not take long to get use to!

I love the touch cover. I make no bones about that. However, I don't do a lot of typing. It takes getting used to, and you will make plenty of mistakes in the mean time. I bought the white cover because I chickened out when I saw the blue one (I'm not cool/trendy enough, sadly), my only "complaint" about it isn't really a complaint but more a general warning, if you're particular about marks, smudges, or dirty spots get another color.

I was skeptical of this touch cover because the keys are basically non-existent. I have read other reviews of people who said it was hard to type on. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! It is very easy to get used to, and it snaps on with magnets. No battery, no need to charge, and once it's on, it's not falling off. Microsoft gets a bad reputation, but I have to say, they did it right. Bought the blue for my wife because it was that or hot pink. She is like me and prefers simple (gray or more plain). Other than the color, it's worth the extra money.

This basically served as a protective cover for the screen of the device - and not much more. The "touch" keyboard often failed to recognize key strokes, and the mousepad was frequently nonresponsive. Bought it because of the huge price difference between the Touch and the Type 2. But this was a perfect example of where the extra dollars would have been money well spent. Returned the Touch for the Type 2 - which I am typing on now - and am much much happier.

This keyboard is the worst. I have used many different keyboards over the years in many different settings and all of them have an adjustment period. I have had this one for almost a year and still cannot get used to it. It misses keystrokes, the spacebar is nearly unresponsive and the keys are slightly too close together. I have to type a lot, oftentimes transcribing what client are saying. This is unable to keep up with this requirement. The material also gets dirty very easily. Opt for the better model, it will save you so much frustration.

Works just as advertised. Love how accurate it is. Just get a little off center row some times, but not often to be cumbersome or annoying. Love it and love my Surface RT. Got the type cover with the Surface and use it so little due to how well the touch cover works. But is really is nice to have both. I use the touch cover most days, but days that I need to type a lot, the type cover is perfect. I am actually writing this review on my type cover :)

If you have a surface you know this is marked as separate buy from the surface. That said we all wished it came with it but it is worth the purchase. The keyboard is powered by the surface so that it one less battery to worry about. It also serves as a screen cover when the device is not in use. That said if you are typing term papers or a lot you might be happier with a type cover, a Bluetooth keyboard or a USB keyboard (if you use it at home). The touch takes some getting used but once you are used to it, it works fine.
