A must-have addition to the Surface Pro

I tried both the type and touch covers in the store and actually preferred the the touch cover. I find that my typing accuracy is much higher with the touch cover than the type. Also I find the 'tick' noise the tablet makes when typing to be sufficient feedback. Don't dismiss this thing out of hand, but you definitely have to try it before you buy. It can also fold up behind the tablet which is very convenient. Only real complaint is that there are no dedicated Function keys - you can use the Fn button with the symbols on the top row to get F-Key functionality, but those buttons are not marked, so you have to count over from ESC to do it. I have also needed the 'Pause' button from a full keyboard, and it is not present on this one.

I love my Surface keyboard and cover - it seamlessly connects to the Surface and has the full functionality of a real keyboard - PLUS the mouse (so some glitch touch screen functions on websites that aren't compatible can be navigated through!). Although it took just a little bit to get used to not pushing down keys - rather they are just flat touch buttons - it works great. Not to mention I feel safe carrying my Surface around knowing my screen won't get scratched and I can still easily use the kickstand so it's like my mini laptop. Only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is that it had me scared at first because it took a few tries for it to work. I'm not sure why or what magically changed (I was getting on my Surface for probably the 6th time with the keyboard to call support after troubleshooting, then it finally worked) - but nothing but the keypad worked for awhile. Guessing it was a system update. Regardless, it works now and I love it!

Quick and easy attach magnetic keyboard.

This flat sealed keyboard covered in a soft blue cloth like feeling surface is water resistant and works great, especially for the road warriors out there who set up their computer on every dirty diner table and near where coffee could be spilled at any moment this keyboard is safe and sound, a quick wipe off with a napkin and you are set and typing again in moments without needing to clean between and under mechanical keys. That said the flat surface with no tactile feedback takes some getting used to but it works as advertised, the powerful magnets easily pull the keyboard to the right spot to link up flawlessly every time. No need to play with the connection ever.

Overall, this is a nice touch pad...much better than I anticipated. It can handle my fast type for the most part without too many issues. I do notice that sometimes the s or the a key are a bit more sensitive and add themselves if I brush against them. I also notice I have to tap strongly on a few of the other keys. Still, it keeps pace pretty well considering its reduced size and the fact that it is not an actual 'type-key' setup. I do wish that, for the cost, this item was included with the Surface Pro rather than an additional purchase item. A keyboard/touchpad is a necessary item for that computer to be really functional. The pad also appears to be relatively sturdy considering how thin it is. I have the light blue, which is not (as of yet) picking up too much dirt.

Almost necessary if you have a Surface

If you have a surface you know this is marked as separate buy from the surface. That said we all wished it came with it but it is worth the purchase. The keyboard is powered by the surface so that it one less battery to worry about. It also serves as a screen cover when the device is not in use. That said if you are typing term papers or a lot you might be happier with a type cover, a Bluetooth keyboard or a USB keyboard (if you use it at home). The touch takes some getting used but once you are used to it, it works fine.

Thin and lightweight but with a price

So, I read the reviews describing the touch feel vs the type. I took a chance and though I could type so so on the touch it lacked the feedback to type quickly and I seemed to make more typos than on a traditional keyboard. I returned the touch cover for the type cover and instantly improved both my speed and accuracy. It is thicker but it is also back lit so that is also a nice feature. I recommend to demo both before you decided which is best for you.

Its a keyboard and cover in one. Works just fine, but takes some time to get used to since you can't feel the key press. Its attached to my tablet now because it's thin and light. But I recently purchased the Key Press cover for when I need to do a lot of tying. I do think the price is High. Because of the availability of color choices, I understand why Microsoft doesn't include the keyboard in the purchase, but the price should be half of what it is.

Keyboard is very straightforward to use, simply push it up towards the bottom of the tablet and it clicks on. The typing takes a little getting used to, as it uses touch detection instead of keys pressing in like a normal keyboard. It works very well on a table, but can be pretty iffy once you begin using the keyboard on your lap. Overall, seems to be well-constructed, but we will see how long it holds up with normal use.

    Great accessory for a Surface

I bought an open box touch cover and it has really expanded my use of the Surface. Writing on the Surface becomes so much easier and the use of the trackpad on the cover really helps use the Desktop portion of the Surface. Overall, a really great accessory to have for the Surface. You do have to get use to touching the keyboard to type, as opposed to pressing a key. I really recommended getting a touch cover.

I was pleasantly surprised with how sensitive and accurate the touch cover was. Keys usually register exactly as I want them to without sticking or skipping on soft touches. Every once in awhile, it seems to have connection issues during startup, but it's easy to reset thanks to the magnetic connectors. Works best on a table or other flat surface, but could be used in lap if you really wanted to.

The touch cover is working quite well most of the time. But I had 2 instances in this first month where the keys stopped responding. I had to detach and reattach the cover to start working again. It seems fairly rugged but I am a little concerned that the very thin outer edges may become easily frayed after much use. Time will tell.

The touch cover is great once you get used to buttons that don't press, they have the option that you can get buttons that press, but not in Cyan. Once you get over the button part, its easy to type on, cleans easy, protects the screen very well and as a great splash of accent color. It really does just snap right in like in the commercials.

I like the keyboard. i like how slim it is. Have not used it as much as I thought I would. It takes a little bit of getting use to. It feels different than typing on a regular keyboard. Not a bad value but seems a little expensive compared to the valuse of the surface. It is the only cover option in store and on the microsoft site. Overall I am happy with it.

I feel like I can actually type faster on this keyboard compared to a regular keyboard, as it really only requires no more than a touch to type. The only down side is that occasionally a key stroke is not recognized because I might hit it at the wrong angle or I might not hit it hard enough as I get used to just having to touch each key.

Very thin but takes some adjustment

The touch cover is so thin it is hard to tell from a plain tablet cover. It does take some getting used to typing on it though but after you adjust it is very useable. I will say I do prefer the type cover over this but recommend trying them both out in store to see what you prefer.

Gift for my daughter. She loves this keyboard. I have difficulties typing correctly on it. I would prefer the keyboard type that is much more like a regular keyboard. It could be that the younger generation is more accustom to touch typing vs using my generation using a "normal" keyboard/typewriter.

This keyboard works generally well, but it really must be used on a hard, flat surface, otherwise its not quite as responsive to touch as I would like. But, it does what I need it to and it was better priced than the other keyboards available. The fun colors were also a plus!

It's a good tool of you like typing on a physical keyboard. It also has a touchpad which makes the tablet more of a PC, which personally I like. The touchpad is responsive. There is a learning curve but it won't take more than a couple hours to get used to the feel of this keyboard. Overall a great addition to the surface tablet!

While I had issues with the Surface, I truly enjoyed the keyboard attachment. It was responsive, easy to attach, and a great cover. It was incredibly thin and light weight. It kept up with 65 wpm with no problems, and the included touchpad area was great for someone whose aim isn't very good on a screen yet.

It's nice to finally have a "physical" keyboard to use with a tablet. I don't mind typing on a touch-screen keyboard (I'm doing that right now). But it is nice to have an actual keyboard to use with a tablet. It does take some getting used to if you're used to actual feedback from a keyboard.
