I recently upgraded from an ASUS T100 2-in-1 to the Surface 3. I waited for Christmas so my wife would have a gift for me in the Surface 3 Type keyboard - so I used the Surface 3 solely as a tablet from Thanksgiving until Christmas. I do a lot of writing and I'm a touch typist. I previously owned the Surface RT with the Touch keyboard accessory. That keyboard had a big impact on my typing speed and accuracy. The ASUS T100 keyboard was also less ideal, with a non-standard layout, and small, but at least mechanical keys. The Type keyboard is far better than either of those. Despite not being much thicker than the original Surface Type keyboard - the Surface 3 Type keyboard has mechanical keys with surprisingly satisfying play and feedback. Despite being somewhat cramped, my typing speed is nearly full speed and I make very few errors. In addition, the function keys allow you to control the brightness of the backlit keys - which are a really nice touch for a keyboard this thin and small. Honestly, I very rarely use the keyboard in a low light condition. I keep the light turned off to conserve battery life on the Surface - but if you're in low light, like a plane cabin, a feature like this is indispensable. Other keys allow you to control media, turning volume up or down or hitting pause or play, even with the device locked. Finally, the entire keyboard doubles as a very thin case protecting the screen from scratches or cracks. People complain about the steep price of this keyboard compared to the price of the Surface 3 - and I agree, it is expensive. But it delivers a lot of value for that extra money. Occasionally my Surface won't see the keyboard. Disconnecting it and snapping it back in fixes that. The keyboard is magnetic, and snaps right into the socket, just like in the old commercials - but the magnet also allows you to fold the keyboard up to put the keys at a slight incline/angle, instead of laying flat. This is a huge improvement over the original design. Along with the kickstand on the Surface, I have little problem typing with the device on my laptop or while in bed. A lot of people will complain about this - but it seems as easy to use in this situation as any traditional laptop, to me. Microsoft really nailed the Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3 and their accessories.

At first I didn't want the keyboard with my Surface 3. It took me a few weeks of using it to decide that things would be just a little easier if I could type normally in windows. I also had an issue finding a good flip case that would fit the Surface 3 without the keyboard. I finally found a good case and realized it had enough room for the keyboard as well. The sales person at Best Buy allowed me to open the box and attach the keyboard so i could get the feel of it with my case. I can tell you that not only did the case fit better but the keyboard adds so much functionality to the Surface that my next laptop purchase will not be a laptop at all. I will buy the Surface Pro 4, or what ever they are selling by then with the keyboard and pen. This keyboard has turned a 10" tablet into a 10" mini laptop. The track pad is not so great because it clicks as soon as I touch it. But I have big fingers and nerve damage so I may be pushing a little harder than I should. I use the keyboard and then reach up and touch the screen for what I would use the track pad for. Best of both worlds. I recommend trying one at the store and then deciding. Don't forget the track pad doesn't even need to be used, you can just touch the screen.

This is a full QWERTY keyboard (no number pad) for a Surface 3 - NOT THE PRO3! This fits exactly the dimensions of the new Surface 3, and does not add significantly to the bulk. The keyboard attaches to the Surface magnetically - and I was a little surprised just how strong that magnetic catch was when I first received it. I jumped (just a little) when it clicked into place. It is quite easy to removed, but it will not fall off. Removal is a deliberate action. If you want/have the pen (separate purchase), be aware that there is no where on the tablet or the keyboard to attach it. The pen comes with a loop that has adhesive you can attach to the Surface or this keyboard if you wish. I actually attached my pen loop to the 'fuzzy' side of the keyboard, and it has (so far) adhered quite well. This does NOT have any thing to hold it closed as a cover. The keyboard stays attached, but it will not latch or otherwise lock into place as a type of protective cover to the screen of the Surface. Not a problem for me, but I was hazy on that action until I saw it. ONLY down side (not worth downrating) typing is not noiseless. I use this in class to take notes, and the sound of typing is somewhat distinctive. Not completely unexpected, but it's worth noting.

I was reluctant to purchase this item because the keyboard itself seemed just a bit small and slow when trying it out at the store, but after a few weeks with my new Surface 3 and not being able to find any sort of cover for the thing that I liked (seriously, why doesn't someone make a simple cover that latches into the magnetic strip on the Surface's edge?) I finally decided to grab this. the sleekest possible cover solution (IMO). At first, my initial assessment was correct. I was tripping the wrong keys frequently or hitting the touch pad, but that went away after a couple hours of normal usage. Also, when I'm at a table or desk, I will generally plug in a preferred USB wireless mouse, and you can toggle a setting that will disable the touch pad when the mouse is attached, which works out well for me, while still giving me a pointing solution under more portable conditions. Functional with the higher end of Microsoft build quality, so good stuff.

I bought this for my son's Surface 3, definitely a great accessory that makes the Surface more useful. While the touchpad is not as big as the Pro 4's, it is very usable and well designed. My son uses the touch screen only occasionally because of the usability of the touchpad. He also loves the fact you can adjust the LED backlight level. Keep in mind also, it can serve in a pinch for your other Surface devices, I use it interchangeably with my Pro 4. Though different sizes, it works well. On thing to keep in mind- other side of the keyboard is almost "felt like", not a super durable material that will hold up to rubbing against hard stuff repeatedly (ie. my son has it shoved in with other stuff in heavy backpack). The age is already starting to show wear (shiny/discolored corners) after just a couple of weeks of use in school and some trips in the backpack.

Great keyboard....its compact as in thin but dont let this keyboard fool you, the saying bigger is always better is not the case here. Yes it may be smaller then your desktop keyboard but its very thin almost paper thin, therefore fits right in your laptop bag or tablet case right along side your surface. It also can fit all your keyboard needs and wants. So you get the wonderful option of transforming your surface from a stellar tablet into a sleek sophisticated laptop, with the gurth of a desktop. Ladies and gentlemen it gets no greater then that. Only thing left now is for you to accessorize. We cant live without all the new techy gizmos and gadets now can we???

I purchased a Surface 3 LTE and enjoyed my experience just hitting the keys on the pop up keyboard menu- but I found myself going back to my Apple Laptop to type out long messages. I decided to take the plunge for the Keyboard - (get the Best Buy Blue , the stylish person in you won't regret it) I am in a deeper love with my Surface 3. I write , work and create all the time on it. I am a filmmaker and in frequent need of moving around and corralling my creative thoughts. I can write all day in my surface. keyboards keys give excellent bounce. The keys light up when I need them to. The trackpad is very responsive and light taps = a double click- TIP - for now use FireFox browser - it's worth it simply for its "readability tab" I was thinking of buying a case. The keyboard cover has taken care of it.

This tablet PC feels very clunky and slow to use compared the MacBook that I use to have, and it was 6 years old. My MacBook was recently stolen from my truck, and I was stuck to buy something in a pinch to get work done so I bought a Surface PC. Boy, do I regret this purchase. I use Microsoft Office on a daily basis to draft proposals and create spreadsheets for my job. When the program isn't freezing on me while I'm mid way through a document, It is SLOW. Just using Microsoft Office, I can't imagine trying to do anything else on it. I've tried streaming videos from YouTube on my downtime, and it really struggles to even handle that. I'm returning it today for a refund, before my 30 days is up. I'm ready to get back to using a reliable computer for my work on the go, this is no way my main work station, but I gave it a try and it's just no good.

The Type cover for the Surface 3 is a MUST HAVE! The keyboard is great, although it takes a little while to get used to the compactness. The keyboard has a back-light, which is useful when typing at night. The keyboard also possesses a touchpad, which is very accurate and useful, and has multi-touch capabilities. The keyboard possesses many settings such as mute, play/pause, back-light control, brightness control, etc. The keyboard magnetically snaps into position, and allows for different positions - lay flat,- then it also magnetically attaches to the bottom of the surface to give a raised-keyboard feel, which saves your wrists while typing for a long time. When finished using the surface, it simply closes and locks your surface, and it also protects your screen. When it is folded backwards, it inactivates.

It's annoying that you have to purchase the keyboard seperately for the Microsoft surface products; however, this keyboard is a huge improvement from the keyboard that was made for the original surface. I love that the keys are backlit. It's a huge help if you are working in the dark as I sometimes do. One thing that is awesome is that the keyboards from the older model surface works with the newer models. The downfall is that the keyboards aren't all the same size which again is annoying but how Microsoft makes its money. I purchased this item as an open box item. The first one didn't work right as the space bar key didn't always recognize when I pushed it. The second one that I received had some sort of spot on it but what do you expect for an open box cheaper item right?

The thing to note is that this is the EXACT same sized keys as the larger one for the Surface Pro 3. The edges are trimmed off to reduce overall size but typing is not compromised. Yes, you could buy any external keyboard but if you just bought this device as a tablet then it was not a good purchase. The Windows store is very limited for true Touch based apps that you need for various things. This is more suited for reading websites than traditional tablet app based gaming etc. However as a portable laptop, it works great and the keyboard is a must have for that purpose. The lighting is great compared to the traditional keyboards. The Bright Red is really Orange as info.

Microsoft got this one right. This keyboard is thin & light but somehow they gave it real keys that travel so it feels like a laptop keyboard. I always have difficulty typing on those Android & Apple Bluetooth keyboards with the fake keys. Not with this one. It feels very natural. You will be very happy with this purchase. I highly recommend it. PS: I've only had it for 3-4 weeks. Some people have claimed that the plastic begins to rip after being opened & closed many times. Mine isn't showing any signs of wear yet, but it looks like that plastic will give out after a while. I guess that's the price you pay for having a real, high quality keyboard at this size & weight. I still highly recommend it.

The keyboard is serviceable. On the plus side, it is cute and not too heavy - although even lighter would have been better to match the super-lightweight design of the Surface. On the minus side, I don't like that the touchpad is, well, just too touchy - it makes the cursor jump around too easily. The keyboard is not lot better than an on-screen keyboard. It feels like a bad imitation of a real keyboard - not super easy to type quickly on. Ultimately, I returned the keyboard, which meant I returned the Surface because the only alternatives to this keyboard were Bluetooth devices, which I wanted to avoid. Too bad there aren't more keyboard options.

The combination of the keys on the keyboard being large and the keyboard being tilted allows me to hold my hands and wrists in a natural position as I type. I use an ergonomic keyboard when I work on a desktop model. Therefore, I was resigned to the fact that until somebody started making ergonomic laptop keyboards, I would never be owning a laptop since the keys are too small and how my wrists rest on the laptop keyboard always make my wrists hurt. This keyboard makes my working on a portable computer possible. The touch needed for the keys is just perfect for me. Finally, the keyboard being lightweight does not significantly contribute to the weight of the computer set up when carrying the laptop.

This is an excellent product that both adds functionality and flexibility to your Surface, but as a screen cover completes the look of the Surface in a very professional way. The keyboard takes some getting used to because it packs many keys into a small area, but the feeling of the keys and the backlight quality is amazing considering how light and thin the type cover is. When you close the Surface, you have a nice quality-feeling microfiber exterior that looks professional and provides a much easier-to-grip texture than the naked Surface. It may add a bit to the cost, but the Surface 3 type cover and Surface pen are both extremely powerful accessories for the Surface 3.

Quite possibly one of the most remarkable products to hit the market in a long time! Typing is a breeze on the TypeCover. The keys are responsive in the same fashion as you'd expect from a standard keyboard. Having each key back-lit is AWESOME! The touchpad is also responsive and accurate, which comes in handy if you need precise touch that fingers simply cannot do. The TypeCover connects securely to the tablet with magnets, and never once do you feel like it is not secure. When it's closed, the cover looks sleek and adds no bulk to the machine. People are amazed when they see you open the cover for the first time to reveal a keyboard "hiding" in the cover. Just a cool product!!!!

The back lit keyboard is amazing! Especially in situations where I'm browsing the web in my dark room at night~! The keyboard is very sturdy and doesn't bend at all when typing. I'm used to a big keyboard and am able to type without looking at keys...so sometimes i find myself typing in correctly since the keys are more compact but it just took a little practice and getting used to. Now I'm fine! I would definitely suggest that you purchase the keyboard if you have the tablet. In situations where you need to type a lot..just snap the keyboard on and type away! And it's a beautiful tablet cover as well! I love this product!

Makes the tablet into a computer... I love the darker colors because lighter colors tend to get dirty from constant use. Darker colors do not show the dirt or wear and tear. I also like that there are choices in colors. ONE IMPORTANT THING... THE SAMPLE IN THE STORE HAS A LOOP ATTACHED TO PUT UR STYLUS IN... THIS DOES NOT COME WITH THE KEYBOARD... IT COMES WITH THE STYLUS, BUT NOT WITH ALL THE STYLUSES... ONLY WITH THE COLORED STYLUS. The salesmen on the floor DON'T KNOW THIS... but that little loop attached to the keyboard, keeps u from losing your stylus.

Works great, for the most part. The layout, backlighting, and general typing experience are all very good. The magnetic click-in and prop-up strips are great, and it's nice that it doubles as a cover. Only issue is the trackpad being too small. That said, I don't think there's a whole lot of room for improvement on this front given the limited space, so this is pretty forgivable. However, there's no denying that $130 is an awful lot of money for something like this. It comes down to whether or not you can afford it, but if you can't afford the keyboard cover, I would advise you not to buy a Surface in the first place.

As I mentioned in my review of the Surface 3, I bought one for each of my parents as a gift. This keyboard is very good and a must have accessory for the Surface 3. It's has a backlight, so you can see in low light situations. I would've given this 5 stars, but I see the improvements Microsoft has made to the keyboard for the Surface Pro 4, and hopefully, they will do the same for the Surface 4 and make them compatible with the Surface 3 (spaced keys, larger glass trackpad, and a fingerprint scanner for Windows Hello). Overall though, this is a solid keyboard and fits well with the design of the Surface 3.
