Unless you know you need XP pro, get XP home

XP is great and will be supported for years and years to come because of the ultra-portable notebooks that cannot use Vista. Everything works with XP, and that includes the software to secure it properly. It will also work well on any recent computer. The biggest problem with this is that it is XP pro, which costs more without offering anything special or useful. The biggest difference I can think of is that you can change your languages easily which isn't a big deal if everyone in your house speaks the same language, if they can't then I have to wonder how you communicate with them. There is also the issue of DX10 but that isn't important yet and by that point the upgrade may cost less than buying vista now outright. To be as safe as possible, you should always run as a limited user, but XP never liked that, Vista is better, but still not perfect; it isn't a big deal if you are careful not to download something terrible. In short, don't get pro, it's added features don't impact usage for the average or even the sophisticated computer user. It won't make your computer faster or more reliable so use XP home.

Solid. Stable. Big Improvements over NT4.0.

Used this to upgrade from NT4.0, and the new (fresh) installation worked great. I attempted to perform a direct upgrade over my NT4 system, but that failed. Main benefits: now computer is USB capable, security features are much better, automatic updates are convenient, and hardware installation is now MUCH easier (truly plug and play, hardly ever need to find correct driver). Also, the recovery feature works as advertised - I have performed this a couple times without incident. Only complaint is the amount of HD space required for just the system. Problem for MicroSoft: I am so satisfied with this system, why would I upgrade to Vista?

It was a breeze upgrading ...I started from scratch...wiped my old OS off great for gaming, networking unlike vista enough security not like vista's over-kill-theory I have been using 2000 pro for a long time I have also used 3.1, 95, 98, me, xp home, and vista (Mac too if you call it a computer) ...this is by far the best OS i have ever seen It's compattable with almost everything(devices and other computers), networking is easy without problems so is installing new devices highly recommended (from someone who knows there computers well)

    Windows for Business

Windows XP is the best version of Windows for home and small business owners. It's stable, has good software support, and pretty much all devices have drivers for it since it's the dominant OS at the moment in the USA. I recommend this to all my friends since Windows Vista isn't ready for serious use yet. The upgrade process is straightforward on this, and the end result will be that you'll have a nice-looking OS that's easy to use.
