I don't even own an Xbox One

As the summary/title states, I don't own an Xbox One, though I am starting to consider purchasing one. The last three consoles I have owned are a Wii U, Wii, and Gamecube to give you a hint as to my preferences. To that point, I bought this controller because I wanted to use it to play No Man's Sky on a Windows 10 laptop, and also some games that support a paired controller on my Surface 3. I was actually seriously considering getting the Wii U Pro controller, as I had read that you MIGHT be able to pair it with your PC, and I could then also use it with my Wii U, but after reading more on that process, I felt it was too uncertain that I would be successful. Conversely, I wondered if it was really as easy to pair this controller as they say it is, and I have to give them credit - it really is. You have to connect it via USB the first time, using a cable that has microUSB on the controller end (luckily my Surface 3 came with one for charging), but after that it will be able to pair wirelessly with relatively no problem. I've had some instances where the controller loses connectivity mid-play in the past, but I believe a driver update rectified those issues. As for the controller itself, it is a quality product. It feels sturdy, the buttons and sticks have an adequate amount of resistance, and the materials feel premium. The back has a texture that, while ergonomically pleasant, will also assist in making sure it doesn't slip out of your hands during particularly intense play. It also looks really classy in white, though there is reason for concern - over time dirt and grime could affect that gleaming body, or the color could yellow down the line. Time will tell, it hasn't really been available long enough for something like that to become evident. Again, the quality of the plastic makes me feel like this won't happen, but it's worth a mention as a possibility. Cleaning the front portion should be pretty simple, though the textured back could cause more dirt to build up without routine, and thorough, cleaning, depending on how often you use it. Battery life seems to be incredibly good. I will admit that I don't use this controller as often as others might, but it seems ready to rock any time I pick it up. I've had mine since mid-August and I don't think I've changed the batteries yet. In conclusion, if you're looking for a second controller for your brand new Xbox One S, this is a no-brainer, but if you're looking for a high-quality controller to use with a Windows 10 PC or tablet, you should seriously consider purchasing this item, I seriously doubt you will be disappointed.

    Thumbsticks WILL Discolor Over Time

First off, let me start by saying that a clean controller is my absolute #1 pet peeve. I don't eat while I play and I always wash my hands before touching my controller. Every single time without exception. With that said I was disappointed to find that the thumb sticks on this controller are already turning a nasty grimy yellow after little more than 1 month of using it. I am the only one that uses the controller as it is always with me in my laptop bag. I have tried scrubbing and chemicals but the yellow tint on the blue joysticks will not go away. I assume it isn't actually an added yellow substance, but instead the blue coloring on the joystick rubbing away to reveal a nasty yellow underneath. Aside from the discoloration the only other gripe I have is actually a Windows Bluetooth issue. Whenever my laptop is Shut Down or Restarted (i.e. not put to Sleep) I have to return to the Bluetooth configuration menu and then remove and re-sync the controller. This is a 100% certainty if I Shut Down and I have to be careful to always put my computer to Sleep and not let the battery die or else I have to deal with the frustration of reconnecting the controller. All in all the Xbox One controller is the best device you can buy for PC based gaming and the inclusion of Bluetooth is worth the trouble of it disconnecting all of the time and not having to have a separate dongle. Maybe just stay away from the colored joysticks.

    Great...except for Bluetooth features lacking

The latest revision of the Xbox controller has several subtle improvements to the already great Xbox one controller. The textured grip offers a nice feel, and the clean black and white theme isn't terrible either. The buttons and sticks all work well, none of them feel cheap or have weird mechanics. Don't kid yourself though - the Elite controller still sits atop the Xbox One controller offerings as the best controller you can get for one. One feature that caught my eye was the addition of Bluetooth support for use on Windows 10 PCs. This is a nice feature so you don't have to use a wire or the Xbox wireless adapter to use the controller...unfortunately I was kind of let down by it in practice though. After initially pairing to my PC, it was fine, but after powering it down and then back up it was connecting and disconnecting constantly, with the searching slow blink going until finally it gave up and shut down. It seems that the available firmware update fixed that issue - but you have to know enough about Xbox controllers to know to use a micro USB cable to your PC, and then open the Xbox accessories app to install it. Or you can pair it to an Xbox One and update over the air, but you need to have one available to do that. What was really disappointing to me and what is costing it a star is the lack of features over Bluetooth. The headset jack does not work. Neither will the chatpad. It works as a controller, but that's it. No audio, no chatpad, so you are either using a wired headset to your PC, a gaming wireless headset, or using speakers. Bluetooth headsets usually have to much latency for gaming, so you are really limited on your options when using Bluetooth. When using a USB cable or the Xbox wireless adapter all of the features and peripherals work as you would expect them to, but part of the marketed appeal of the controller was being able to use it wirelessly without a dongle. While that does work, not being able to use any peripherals on the controller is a significant limitation. Overall, this is the best of the non-Elite controller lineup and a nice revision to the Xbox controller line...sadly the Bluetooth is very limited on a PC, to the point where you may still want to use a wire or the dongle to get full features.

D-Pad is lacking, but otherwise great

Console controllers have made great strides over the years in functionality, and I'm pleased to say the Xbox One S controller is the apex of that so far for Microsoft. Most notably, it has a headphone jack built into the bottom of the controller (so you won't need the chat adapter for that function anymore). Other than that, this is pretty much the same superb Xbox One controller you know. The analog sticks feel sturdy and have yet to fail on me during demanding first person shooter play (something that was a plague for me during the PS2 and original Xbox era). The buttons don't feel cheap and haven't stuck on me yet, which is also a good thing. However, I've found the D-pad has always left something to be desired on Xbox controllers–it's just not precise enough for arcade fighting games. So, I'd recommend an arcade stick over this controller if you plan on seriously playing any fighters. I've found the charging function and battery life with the play-n-charge kit inconsistent (although this could be due to me using a headset with the controller that drains it quicker). It sure would be nice if Microsoft would finally take a page from Sony and put internal batteries in these things...having to buy a separate battery and cord seems excessive given that it's the same price as Sony's standard Dual Shock 4. Still, the S controller is a respectable 1st-party peripheral and meets most of my needs nicely for the system.

I picked up this and the Best buy Exclusive blue controller. My wife has gamed with me in the past but she never really had her own controller. After picking up the Gears elite for myself I thought getting her these would be a nice touch. The controller itself has the same functions as any Microsoft official XB1 controller. It does have the 3.5 mm headphone jack but that doesn't really come into play for us. So far my wife has been using this version the most and it has proven to be reliable and sturdy. We did accidently drop it on the tile floor but nothing happened and it didn't even leave a scratch/blemish. I can recommend all the official XB1 controllers and I would suggest purchasing which one appeals to you visually. Unless you are looking for something with tons of customizations and options. In which case, the elite would be my recommendation.

This is pretty much your standard xbox one controller. It has the earphone jack which is nice. I don't like that it costs more just because it's blue. Really Microsoft? paint it blue instead of white and it costs more? But I got suckered in and bought it anyway. The real downside is that the A, B, X and Y buttons are REALLY hard to read. The picture shows them clear as day but in reality, if you don't have light shining on them at the right angle, they look just like black buttons. So for someone who knows which button is which by muscle memory, this is not an issue. But for those of us who have to look down from time to time to remember, it kind of sucks. Other than that, the controller is sturdy, responsive and has a nice feel. Again, same thing that comes with the xbox one s, but just blue (and with bad buttons). Would only recommend because I like the color.

I got this because I wanted to be able to play a 2 player game with my daughter, but after using it for a bit I quickly made this one my main controller and now rarely use the one that came with my Xbox One, mainly because this one just feels good when holding it. The grips you hold it by are rough on the bottom so it won't slip out of your hands easily, and it's weighted perfectly, noticeably better than the stock controller. The ONLY issue I've found with it is the A/B/X/Y buttons are all blue instead of the standard colors so it's a little harder to follow along with in-game prompts. They do have little dot icons indicating the color order in the middle of this button grid though, and it doesn't take long to just memorize where each button is located, so the lack of on-button colors is really a minor issue.

This controller works like a charm and even is the updated kind where you do not need one of those wacky xbox adapters if you want to plug in normal IPHONE headphones. I haven't had problems with any of the buttons sticking or triggers being worn out and I play with this controller only and play at least 40 hours a week with it. The only downside is that between the A & B button on the controller two little cracks came between them like i had dropped it or something. It hasn't affected how the controller works at all but it just makes me think it was kinda cheaply made if it was my own thumb that did the damage. Its very possible it was from the non stop button smashing Elder scrolls online so who knows. If I were to buy another controller I would most likely just get another one of these just different color scheme.

Wanted a controller to play Steam games on my laptop (a Windows machine) and was told that XBox controllers didn't need a separate patch. Does pretty much what it's supposed to, except getting my computer to recognize it the first time was a little trickier than I thought it would be. I knocked off a star for the following (admittedly minor) reasons: -It took a couple of attempts to get it to connect; initially it only connected via Bluetooth -It doesn't come with a charging or connection cord so you need to either makes sure your batteries are good or get a charging cord. Luckily, it's just a standard USB cord and you steal the one from your phone if you need to. That said, it's still a solid product. Wish the teal one was in stock and/or it came in more colors.

I had to replace mine but the replacement has been fine. The first one, after about a month of use, started dropping it's connection after only 30 seconds of play no matter what. i noticed with that one than when paired with my PC through Bluetooth it showed a serial number next to the device name (Xbox Wireless Controller). None of my other new Xbox One S controllers, or the replacement, show a serial number in the device name. I think this was a sign that the first one had something wrong. Other than that I love this controller, because it uses Bluetooth I can use it with my Xbox One, Android phone and tablet, Android TV, and all my PCs. It won't work with Apple but blame that on Apple not using a standard Bluetooth connection for controllers. It also will connect but won't work with a PlayStation 3/4 system.

The controller itself plays very well, and feels natural and smooth, with a cute color to boot. I just have two minor complaints. The back cover that goes over the batteries is flimsy and has to be handed with care. So I hope that doesn't become a problem in the distant future after having opened it so many times. My other complaint unfortunately has some bad synergy with the first complaint. That being that as far as I've been able to tell, the only way to shut off your BlueTooth Controller is to remove the battery, because even shutting off the PC doesn't turn the controller off... So having to open that back and remove the battery just to turn off your controller gets tedious. All in all a good purchase though, feels great!

I originally received one of the slightly more expensive controllers for fathers day...well, it didn't work. I returned it for this slightly less expensive one and it worked. Aside from colors or themes, it seems there is no difference between the slightly more expensive ones and these. This controller feels the same as the more expensive one. You can probably save your money and just buy this. My only problem is the sticks feel like they are going to break over a short amount of time, which is what happened with the controller that came with my Xbox One X...Maybe this is one of the devices where it would pay to get the protection plan on it.

In the photo I thought it had a blue light ring but it is just color plastic. Sort of a let down there. Buttons are ok. A little on the sensitive side ,, Might have to tune settings. Feels good in the hands. Cool looking Xbox light.. No USB.. Bluetooth connection now..Make sure you have bluetooth on computer ...WiFi is not bluetooth even if it says wireless...I would give 5 if not so sensitive and it had the blue light...not the color plastic...Has headphone jack....Press front button for bluetooth detection..

Overall, I'd say the Xbox one controller is one of my favorite controllers ever, I like the asymmetrical sticks with concave grips and analog triggers, and I LOVE the headphone jack, but the body feels a bit too wide for me and the face buttons are much to rounded and unresponsive, and the bumpers are unfortunately quite uncomfortable to use. But otherwise the controller works perfectly with PC and Xbox one wireless and wired, so I can definitely recommend this to someone who doesn't mind the issue I mentioned. Although, If you intend to ONLY use this for PC gaming, I think I'd recommend the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller a bit more.

Product is great, two reason for me deducting a star. First, Bestbuy is supposed to price match with Amazon but when I showed the cashier, she stated that they would not honor it because it is through third party seller and not directly through Amazon. I bought it anyways it was not that big of a deal but when I opened the controller at home, there is a wobble in the thumb stick. This is not Bestbuy's fault but rather Microsoft. This is not the first time I buy one of their controls and have problems with the joystick. As I prefer Xbox over PS4 ( I have both), I guess I'll just keep having to buy their controllers which are made to break it seems.

My original Xbox one controller kept drifting up so I decided to buy a new controller for playing Destiny 2. I love the design and bluish color of the controller. The weight seems to be about the same as my original controller. I was able to place the rechargeable battery from my original controller into this one with no problems.I’ve only had this controller for a week and lost Xbox controller connection/signal twice while gaming, this could be a problem but I hope not. I checked to see if the controller needed to be updated, however it was already up to date straight from the box

It's pretty self-explanatory that the Xbox One controller works well for the Xbox One. Depending on how you tap the X, Y, A, and B buttons, they make a loud clicking noise; however, it doesn't impact the response time in game. When using a headset with this controller on a daily basis, the batteries can run out quickly (changing batteries every 2-3 days). This product is not sold with an adapter, but the customer can purchase one separately if desired. A cheap set of AA batteries is included in the packaging.

      Hey there,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your new Xbox wireless controller. If you're a frequent gamer, we recommend investing in a rechargeable battery pack such as the Xbox One Play & Charge Kit. It offers up to 30 hours of gameplay on a single charge and can be fully recharged in just under four hours. Initially, i bought this controller for one of my sons. Two years later, it's moms controller. I am not a gamer. I took over their xbox one s once we "cut the cord" so that i could watch my dumb tv in my bedroom. Not only is this controller easy to use, it fits in the hand quite nicely. The biggest shock, to me, was i could control my PC AND my laptop. I have no idea how it performs when gaming but this middle aged mom is pleased with its features.

Well constructed and durable. Just as we did with our Xbox 360, we added an official Xbox controller to our Xbox One. Only drawback is that the standard wireless controllers are designed for AA batteries and you have to buy the rechargeable battery set separately. I recommend that you also purchase one of the dedicated battery pack sets with a custom designed charging cradle. You could probably use AA rechargeables but slight hassle taking them out to charge. The separately purchased battery pack and charging cradle is more convenient and cuts down on the need to search for the controllers. Simply return them to the cradle.
