Great controller, once you get used to it

This is an amazing controller, although at first you may not think so. Why do I say that? Because I've been using the Xbox 360 controller for years now, and have gotten very used to the feel. I loved the shape of the 360 controller, and when I got this, I was scared. I have big hands you see, and this controller seemed abnormally small. Especially near the top. What I didn't realize is that I was holding it wrong. I was holding it the way I used to hold my 360 controller, and that's the wrong way to hold this controller. When you get your controller, change the way you hold it so that your grip fits the controller, not the other way around. Once you do, the controller is amazing and feels much more natural. It's made so that when you're holding it close to your body, it's easier to hold as far as I can tell. And I love it. My only complaint is that the bumpers on the top are a little clickier. This could be a problem for me when the new Halo comes out (Halo is my game and I've gotten amazing at bashing using the bumper). Also, you definitely won't see the trigger rumble on many games yet. (not in Ryse, Battlefield, KI or COD which are the games I've bought. The headset jack is brilliant, although not being able to use previous headsets stings. However, the awesomeness of being able to hit that button to mute or adjust volume on the fly is SO WORTH IT! The start and select buttons have been rebranded, but are basically the same thing. However, in my experience you won't be using select much AT ALL unless games start to make it make sense. (Ryse does a good job with this) The home button has been moved to the top, and no longer shows which player it is for. This may seem bad, but the thing is Kinect tracks who's holding what controller, and automagically signs everyone in and swaps controllers as needed. So having an indicator doesn't make sense. Also, it's nice to not accidentally hit the home button in the middle of something. Being able to plug in to the Xbox is a huge plus. Not only does it charge your batteries, but it TURNS OFF WIRELESS AND BECOMES A ZERO-LAG WIRED CONTROLLER. I've never heard of another controller that can do this, and it's honestly pretty sweet. In case you were wondering if the cord being a Micro USB would fall out, it doesn't. It locks in pretty good. My only complaint is that there's a little resistor right next to the plug, which is unusually heavy, and kind of unnecessary. Overall, this is a huge leap forward. However, this controller (heck, the Xbox One) is basically untapped potential. Those rumble triggers will be awesome in future games (Halo, anyone?) and the fact that Kinect can track controllers' position could be used in future games for all sorts of things.

I honestly believe this is the best controller I have ever used, for any system. The d-pad is the gold standard as far as I can tell, even putting Nintendo to shame with it's tactile response. Fighting game fans can rejoice, as the end of the age of d-pads has ended. The analog sticks are great, and have a texturized rim to prevent your thumbs from slipping. The shoulder buttons are nice and clicky, while the ergonomics of the triggers and handles is close to perfect. The controller has a very nice weight to it, a good solid feel and seems very sturdy. For wireless use, the controller runs on two AA batteries, and I would highly recommend Eneloop for rechargeable batteries rather than disposable batteries. Obviously, it works perfectly with the Xbox One, but it can also be connected to a PC or an Android device with a USB port using a standard microUSB cable. I haven't used the headset jack, so I can't speak to that. This is a hit from Microsoft, and a vast improvement over the formidable Xbox 360 controller. The bar has been raised.

The standard Xbox One controller is a solid controller in my opinion. I have always preferred the Xbox controllers over Playstation (excluding the original Xbox controllers of course) and I was impressed to find that the Xbox One version only improved on the Xbox 360 controller. They managed to tuck the two AA battery slots into the center of the controller instead of the protruding box on the bottom of the 360 controller. I was also impressed with the weight distribution, which feels good to hold. I have no complaints about the thumbsticks, triggers, bumpers, buttons, or Xbox button, which has a clean design and backlight. As others have said, the D-pad feel has only improved. Battery life seems fine. My only complaint, which isn't really even a complaint so much as a warning, is that these controllers do not have a standard aux port. They are not to be confused with the black controllers that come with new consoles, which have an aux port added next to the proprietary Xbox headset port. Once I found this out (originally I asked a Best Buy employee who incorrectly told me this controller did have an aux port), I returned it for a covert forces controller (same except $5 more with a cool camo skin and an aux port). If you would like to use a standard aux connector headset connected to your controller, you will need to get a different controller. Otherwise, the standard Xbox One controller is great. One set of Duracell AA batteries is included.

So, when I bought my Xbox One, I also bought an extra controller. I find that these controllers can be troublesome, but if you manage to get a good one, I LOVE these things. It is probably the most comfortable controller I've ever held. The thumbsticks are smaller, they have small grips on them, and they are not plagued with the "joystick drag" problem that pretty much all 360 controllers had. The bumpers are probably my least favorite part of the controller, but they're still not that bad. And the new triggers are fantastic, plus they have rumble motors inside them, which adds some unique sensations when, for example, you peel out of the starting line in a racing game. Unfortunately, I've had to return a number of them shortly after I bought my system; I can't remember if two or three. I also have another one that needs to be returned, but I'm out of Best Buy's return period so I have to deal with it. Right now, the faceplate of the controller is sort of bulging, which makes it creak on the left side whenever I hold it. Also, the right control stick shifts out of place when I move it from the forward to back positions. It's usable, but it feels too fragile for me to be comfortable with using it. If you get a perfectly functional one, you'll love it. If not, just spot the problem inside of 15 days, and bring it back to your local store with your receipt. You'll find one that works, even if it takes a few tries.

A worthy followup to the excellent 360 controller

While the controller stands alone as a great product with an excellent design, I would recommend getting the controller bundle with the Play & Charge kit. It's only $15 more, and buying that alone would be $25. It's well worth the extra money. I am verrry glad Microsoft didn't change the successful controller formula they came up with many years ago. This is a fantastic controller. It feels like a tiny bit of a better fit in my hands than the 360 controller, and I like the new ridges on the thumbsticks. There were only two things I ever really thought they needed to change from the 360 controller, and they did both: Fix the terrible D-pad (it is much better now), and move the guide/dashboard button. I like how it is higher up on the controller now so you won't ever accidentally hit it when going for the start/back buttons. Speaking of which, I guess that's my only very minor complaint. They should have stuck with "Start" and "Back" as the names for those two center buttons. It sounds a lot less cool to read "Press the menu button to begin" on the Killer Instinct main screen, rather than the classic "Press Start". But, not a big deal.

The new Xbox One wireless controller builds on Microsoft's experience from the past generation of controllers with the Xbox 360. Even though it looks very similar, my understanding is that it was actually redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up in terms of the circuitry as well as most of the mechanical parts. The only criticism, if any, is that the right and left bumper buttons are designed such that they can only really be depressed toward the outer fulcrum of the buttons meaning, if you have longer fingers or are simply used to pressing the bumpers past the center of the button they aren't as responsive. If you happen to reach all the way to the inside edge of the buttons, you really can't press them at all. Some of the noticeable improvements include the thumb sticks and the trigger buttons. The thumb sticks seem a little smaller and offer terrific, precise control. The trigger buttons offer a wider surface area and are contoured to allow the finger to easily wrap into them making them very easy to activate and do so rapidly with minor leverage. Overall, there is little to complain about and much to appreciate about the new Xbox One controller. It is solidly designed, offers precision control with great tactile feedback and reliable performance.

Brand new Titan Fall XBone system and out if the box, a controller with sticking A & B buttons. Generally, I open my systems when I am ready to set them up, and I passed Best Buys 15 day electronics policy, so I was forced to deal with Mircrosoft. Well, they get the 2 star rating for replacing the controller, but they lost 3 stars for having terrible warranty policies. To make matter worse, they do not provide a shipping label so this already cost us shipping all the way to Texas and I live in New York. I was told by a Microsoft MANAGER, that I would receive a brand new controller, in retail packaging and this turned out to be false. I received a refurbished controller with light scratches, wrapped in a thin foam sheet and no box filler to protect during shipping. I was only a few days past Best Buys return policy and I'm forced to deal with a terrible manufacturer. Best Buy shares the low rating for having such a short termed return policy on electronics. Additionally, I only purchased this controller because Microsoft would not send a replacement before hand, yet, my Verizon TV goes through the XBone as one of its features. Had I not, I would have been stuck without fully functioning TV service.

my review with the xbox one controller is as written: 1. LOOKS: the controller looks amazing and very elegant. the body is a matte, black. A great match for the glossy finish and representation of the buttons. 2. GAMEPLAY: the controller is absolutely perfect for xbox one games. I currently have ghosts, bf4, nba2k14. They are all absolutely perfect with this controller, The xbox controller is supreme especially for first person shooters like ghosts. 3. VS. PS4 CONTROLLER: i have both consoles and the xbox controller is greatly more useful and advantagous with its intensely immersive rumble triggers and improved D-pad. With the xbox one controller, i generally go 20-3 in Cod ghosts online but on the ps4, the controller is weak(haters dont hate the ps4 controller isnt very useful for fps). on the ps4 i generally go 12-7 because the triggers aren't as usefully placed like the xbox one controller. 4. OVERALL: i would absolutely recommend this controller and the xbox one over the ps4. the ps4 controller is weak and ugly. hope this review helps with your decision. :)

At first glance this controller seems so similar to the Xbox 360 one that it makes you think it is the same. Well, it is, but it isn't. It has the same general feel, but it does have a lot of small changes. The front of the controller is much flatter, the d-pad is way more consistent, the triggers are wider, and my favorite it is smaller. The controller feels great in your hands whether they be big or small. I have large hands and mine fit great, my brother is only 8 and he says it is perfect. This controller is amazing, it keeps the familiar feel as well as adds so many positives.

I had a 360 and loved that controller. This is fairly similar in terms of feel but with a few alterations. The ergonomics are great and it feels good to hold. My two complaints are that the joysticks are concave rather than convex so sometimes I find my thumbs slipping off the joystick when I have to make quick sharp directional movements. The other problem, I don't know if it's just my Xbox or what, but when I hold down the button to turn on the controller my Xbox doesn't always turn on along with it. I don't have the Kinect either so I have to manually turn on my xbox and then my controller isn't synced for some reason and then I have to do a hard restart to reconnect my controller to the Xbox. Other than that, it works great, feels great, and it connects easily to my PC if I ever feel like gaming on the PC but want to use a controller instead of my keyboard and mouse.

    An Improvement Over Previous Gen

The sticks on this controller are so much smoother and fluid than the previous generation. I feel like I have more control playing FPS games. The only downside is that the headset jacks are a new format which doesn't allow for compatibility with existing headsets. I'm hoping manufacturers will release a new adapter and firmware. I spent good money on my PX5s and it stinks to not be able to carry them forward. One slightly annoying this is that the controller straight up dies when the batteries are low. The previous generation would give you plenty of warning when the batteries were low and if it did die you could still power it up and use it to finish an online match. This generation is done - kaput - when the batteries are low. Keep some batteries handy, or risk dying multiple times while you scramble for batteries to finish an online match. Overall a great improvement, IMO.

Less bulky than the 360 controller. Many will find the LB and RB button a little akward but I don't think so. I think they are actualy better. It seems that they have been placed so that you can tap them with middle of the finger rather than the finger tips like on the 360 controller. Trying to use the finger tip makes it feel uncomfortable so it's a bit to get use to. Other than that, it's pretty good. Would be 5 stars but because of the need for AA batteries, I'm docking it one. I don't buy charge and play kits. I simply buy rechargeable AA batteries and use them. It's cheaper and far more flexible for other electronics around the house. I actually only use rechargeable batteries at home now. I recommend that as an alternative to paying for a charge and play kit that you can only use with the controller.

This is a great controller, button layout is great, not much different than the 360 controller. I love the black with the bright colorful buttons. I have had some issues, my first controller had a defective right stick which I exchanged. My second controller had a sticky button which thankfully stopped sticking after a day. I haven't investigated to see if there have been a lot of hardware issues throughout the release. I'm also not a big fan of the battery usage, I much prefer the playstation approach of rechargeable controllers. I understand some proponents of batteries will point out the issues of using a cord to recharge while you play is inconvenient, but I just recharge on my computer between playing sessions. It's not a big enough deal to ding the review, I just took a star off for the hardware issues. Overall pretty happy with the controller.

Huge fan of this controller and often found myself getting signs of carpal tunnel on the PS3 which I happy to see Sony tried to address on PS4 though still not even near as comfortable as even that of the 360 controller. On to the XB1 gamepad, this was an evolution to the best controller available of the systems out. What I love: No longer light quadrant to reflect controller number D-pad is better implemented Love the side grip of the sticks Select button changed for multitasking button is quite slick What I don't: I preferred the previous battery compartment of the 360 controller, I am not convinced the new cover will last with constant changing of AA's. I prefer my own rechargeables as I see the MS ones as gouging of the customer and found that their lifespan versus cost in the previous gen to be a problem for me personally.

this controller is so much sturdier feeling than the 360 controller. My hand feels more at home on it than on any controller in the past,....BUT, for some reason Microsoft has had problems with the joysticks malfunctioning. The malfunction is due majority of the time to a small piece inside the controller that helps the joysticks return to center when youre not applying any pressure to it. These pieces fall out causing the joystick to go off-center and causing whatever game youre playing to take the off-center joystick as input, thus moving your character, car, etc. in whatever direction the joystick is leaning towards. It sucks, but the controller works so well when its not broken, its ALMOST forgiveable.... ALMOST. thats why its 4 instead of 5. its been about 2 months and so far so good.

To make a long story short, I needed another Xbox One controller. After months of playing games alone on my Xbox One Day One System I finally decided to cough up a few extra dollars and purchase another controller. I don't know about any other people but I've always had less than stellar experiences buying 3rd party controllers... (faulty wiring, buttons failing, etc.) which is why I only buy controllers from the official system manufacturer. So far I have no complaints. I think this controller is one of the most comfortable ones on the market. I am only speaking from my experience being that I have every system. Bottom line... Now I have another controller to beat my buddies in a few games or even my girlfriend. I guess its time for me to finally share the Xbox One gaming experience.

I do like this controller. It feels great. It is very much like the 360 controller. I can live with the change in the back and forward buttons, though it does take some getting use to. My biggest gripe has nothing to do with the controller itself, but with the Xbox One system. The only way to change out the controller when paired with your Kinect sign in, is to sign off and then sign back in. This is an issue when you use the plug and play adapter. Sure, plugging in a controller with the plug and play kit will charge it, but if the controller you are using dies, you need to sign out of XBL and then sign back in. with the freshly charged controller. It should be easier. But, I can't knock a star off because of this. It's a limitation of the system and not a limitation of the controller.

The xbox 360 was an award winning controller but, it feels like xbox took a few steps back on the xbox one controller. the older controllers where I believe of more sound/ sturdier build. I have dropped my xbox one controller a few times and it has already broken. Another weak point is the console it attaches to, the one is still glitchfull and doesn't have as many apps as the 360. However, on the plus side it does seem to be lighter especially once u ad the battery which a believe is a lithium-ion this generation. Also the rumble in the triggers is a nice addition. I also don't like that unlike its predecessor you cannot tell which controller is one two three etc. Also the chat jack is different so now you have to spend extra money on a chat adapter for your headsets.

My first controller didn't last a full year. It started to drift on the right stick, and I did a search online and found it was a common problem. I tried to fix the controller on my own, but couldn't get it to work right. I got a second controller with the Best Buy warranty during Black Friday. A few months later, the stick started to drift -- the same problem as the first controller. I bought the Best Buy extended warranty for that very purpose, and I got a new controller -- though I had to pay the difference in the controllers because I received a discount for the Black Friday deal. I would not recommend the controller and would have given it one star -- it gets two for being a good controller when it works.

Just when you think they couldn't get the feeling and the ergonomics down any more, there Microsoft goes again, just improving the best in the business. I personally can't stand the feel of the PlayStation controller, but new one feels great. The weight is on point, the pressure for the buttons and sticks. If you only have one controller and you don't want your friends to play with you at your place, then don't buy this controller. Buy this if you want to share with your friends and family because this controller is amazing! Be sure to update your controllers through the settings of the Xbox One. I didn't know that you had to update them and the feel of the game and response times are dramatically better!!! Enjoy!!!
