This is my 4th time to purchase this product as it is something that I started giving all of the attorneys at my firm (they used to pick their own until we found this one which everyone agreed was great - especially ergonomically). So, out of all fairness, the product has been relatively stable & treated both me & my colleagues well in the past e.g. battery life is better than average -even if you habitually forget to turn off your mouse, it's a known quantity in that Microsoft & Best Buy manufacturer & distribute the product, respectively, & I've (we've) had zero issues as a law firm in terms of quick & easy installation, compatibility, or software malfunctions. The first (and only) time I have had an issue with this particular product was earlier this spring (2018) after an associate attorney of mine - for whom the product was purchased for - informed me of issues (discovered upon opening the box) that were isolated to the keyboard. To me, after inspecting the keyboard, it appears that the product was sold as new when in actuality it was an open-box return/sketchy exchange (there are no bar codes that I can find on the product...again, sketchy) that was not properly checked by staff before being put back out on the shelf for sale. I would consider this an anomaly, but I have a friend who made a purchase at Best Buy (prior to new executive management), & it wasn't until he was troubleshooting problems with Samsung that he was made aware (through their records/serial numbers) that the item has been refurbished & was not actually new, as warranted. Out of fairness to Best Buy, I won't get into specifics on this particular incident, but I will say it was significant & not the norm given the product type/investment. I will however double-check with him to see how things ended up, & I will amend this review if it turns out Best Buy ended up doing right by him (I think that says a lot when a company - large or small - admits to a mistake & rectifies it). That instills consumer confidence. In my case, I was missing batteries (they've always been included in the past) as well as a key belonging to the keyboard (B I think it was!). Anyway, I was unable to return the product due to health issues/constraints, so I essentially got stuck with a keyboard that ended up serving no utility whatsoever (it's still in the box). I get that it's only $20-something, but it's more about the time & frustration that it cost me - especially while being sick. To add to that, I spoke with a store associate who said I needed to return the item to the store I made the purchase at, which just didn't seem right...I inquired about shipping the product back, & I was told I would have to cover the costs out-of-pocket. To spend $10 on shipping for a $20 keyboard just doesn't make sense. Maybe I was talking to a new employee - who knows! 9 x out of 10 I would refer this product to a friend (which explains my answer below), but obviously not this time based on the product itself & the customer support.

    "Microsoft Works"

I bought this hoping that it would work seamlessly with my Windows 10 based Lenovo 700 25ish, also purchased from Best Buy. This Microsoft combo package immediately created an IRQ value conflict and repeated blue screen of death/forced shutdown in my "easily upgradeable" Lenovo desktop system (emphasis on irony as nothing in the desktop is easily upgradeable) which resulted in a day of me restoring my computer and losing a week of work. It seems like the dongle forces the keyboard connection through a resource path that is in use by other system items and corrupted the kbdclass.sys driver, and the frequency of the dongle also seems to be perfect for messing with the wireless network card in the computer. After restoring my system to the previous week, and manually removing the proprietary Lenovo keyboard driver bloat in my file system and registry, and installing microsoft's mouse and keyboard service software and drivers, the combo worked for about half an hour. On updating Windows as the next step in getting my system right the computer rebooted and - despite working finally before the update - everything went kablooey again. I was ready to through the Keyboard off my third story balcony. Fortunately after.all of.that my insignia USB wired keyboard and kensington Bluetooth iPad keyboard both did work with my computer - so I could research a new wireless keyboard, proving that these problems were all related to the Microsoft 850. In short, plug this in to a new Lenovo, press a keyboard button, watch everything explode. Useful for taking revenge on Lenovo using enemies I suppose but not what I was hoping for. Shame because the price is right and the feel/size of the combo is nice. Returned to store the minute it opened the next day. I would not recommend this combo.

Actually I bought two of these, one for work and one for home. Both mice have the same problem. The mouse wheel has a mind of it's own and does not track correctly causing web pages to jump up and down repeatedly till I move the wheel. Also, a slow roll of the wheel and my commercial CAD software does not even perceive movement, YIKES! Often I move the mouse and it does not follow at first, but does catch up. Really freaky to see mouse moving with purpose on the screen and not on the desk. For some odd reason I kept hitting the CAPS lock key as I was typing. Was never an issue on any other kybd including the one I am typing on now. On top of my oddly timed (every time) fat finger issue with the kybd, the thing just never felt right while typing and well, I don't miss it. As luck would have it, the kybd and I got into a bit of a kerfuffle and I beat it to peaces on the desk then swept it all into the trash followed quickly and forcefully by the mouse. No joke BB, I will be there in a day or two to get a different kybd, already ordered a different mouse Over all, I would buy this for the step kids or for the mother-in-law and maybe even for the neighbor who refuses to mow his lawn. I would however NOT buy this for serious work, extended use or with the expectation that it be without issues.

I purchased this bundle to go with a Mac Mini I was setting up for someone else. I used it extensively during the system setup and found it went well beyond my expectations. First, the price was good. For less than $25 it's a keyboard AND mouse. While shopping I was expecting to pay that for each. Next, it's very sturdy. For the price I expected a flimsy product but it is well made. Typing is fast, both in using the solidly made keys and in response time to the system, and the mouse is very responsive. I preferred an IR device over Bluetooth because conflicting radio signals have made my bluetooth devices cut out while IR just worked. The same with this keyboard/mouse. The Mac Mini I set up to dual boot into MacOS and Windows 10. Being Microsoft products these devices integrated perfectly with Windows 10. The preset shortcut buttons were working as they should and the others were easy enough to map. Though not preset, mapping out the shortcut keys in MacOS was perfectly simple as well. There were no issues using mouse or keyboard in either operating system. Sometimes there are products out there that really surprise. This is one of those products. Anyone needing an everyday input solution with their computers I have to recommend this set. I am contemplating buying another as backup for my own dual boot Mac.

    Keyboard OK, disappointing mouse

I was really excited to get this keyboard and mouse not only because of the great price, but it was one of a very few that had built in encryption. I soon found out why the price was so cheap. From first use, the mouse turned out to be the Achilles heel of this combination. It is by far the worst mouse I've ever used. The tracking is terrible when used on my bed from about 12 feet away (yes, I do have it on a flat surface, and I'm using a mouse pad), and I've got to constantly baby it to get the mouse pointer where I need it on the screen. I thought it was the original battery so I swapped in a new Duracell to no avail. I turned off the Microsoft mouse using its power switch and hooked up my other wireless mouse from Rosewill ($12) to see if it had the same problem, but it worked like a charm. I can literally use it on any fairly smooth surface with no tracking issues at all. My guess is that the Microsoft mouse is having communication issues because of the metal bedsprings, because when I use it on the edge of the bed close to the USB dongle, it works fine. Unfortunately, the keyboard suffers from some of the same interference, but not as bad. Maybe in the future Microsoft will get a better transmitter/receiver USB dongle, but until then I can't recommend this mouse/keyboard.

The good news is it works more or less flawlessly on 95% of the software I use every day. The fit and finish are good, the keyboard feels very good with a nice positive resistance and not too much noise and the wrist rest is spot on. The issues are very few and all centered around user programmable features. Simply stated, Logitech's format is not 100% compatible with the Microsoft base. This is not their fault, the base code is copywrite protected and forces Logitech to "work around" it. The bottom line is that many programs can't recognize the "translated" code and this becomes most apparent when attempting to add yet another layer of translation via use programmable keys on both the mouse and keyboard. All in all, this is very nicely designed and executed product that I would recommend to anyone looking for a good value on a "natural" style keyboard.

Nice Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Set

My HP keyboard failed after five years. I went to Best Buy, the Microsoft 850 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse set was on sale. Its glossy frame and light plastic construction give it a cheap and flimsy appearance. So, I was surprised and pleased at how nice it feels while typing. The legs give it a nice angle and hold it securely in position. The keys have a "cupped" top that makes it easy to keep your fingers in correct position. It feels like a premium quality keyboard, even if it does not look that great. It has a bit of a "clicky clacky" sound when you are typing fast so it might be a bit annoying to be in a room where five or ten people were all banging away on this keyboard at the same time. The wireless mouse is smooth and precise. I like having a power off switch to save the battery. The fact that batteries were included was a pleasant surprise. When the batteries need replacing, I will use lithium batteries. My guess is that the keyboard will run three or four years on lithium batteries, which is longer than I will have this computer. At the Best Buy sale price, this combination was a real bargain.

I had to replace my keyboard because my cat seemed to have shed hair all over and inside it. The keys just didn't work anymore (I used the saran like packaging the new keyboard came in to make a keyboard cover to protect it from cat hair.) I bought this new keyboard for entering data and for typing things into the computer. It was NOT purchased for gaming or anything more serious than day to day tasks. This keyboard has met all my expectations. The keys are easy to press and respond quite well. The keys themselves are spaced very well. The volume decrease and increase keys are really easy to use. The function keys at the top are better placed than most keyboards I have had. There is only a little area after the spacebar and the end of the keyboard which allows my hands to be placed exactly how I want them. There is a separate keypad for the numbers which allows me to speed up when I am typing numbers into Excel. There is a special key that I have never had on a keyboard before that brings up a calculator when you click on it. The keyboard does everything I need it to and is very inexpensive.

Microsoft Wireless 850 Desktop I am running Windows 10 and the product states the system requirements Windows 10/ 8/ 7. Out of the box both the keyboard and mouse operate erratically, keyboard skips key punches, keyboard enter tab works intermittently and mouse works erratically. Attempted several fixes, changed USB ports, operated keyboard and mouse separately, used mouse with and without a mouse pad, nothing changed or helped. What is interesting, just two days ago I purchased this from a Best Buy circular ad and web page as a “Microsoft Wireless Desktop 850”, todays web page shows the product to be a “Microsoft Wireless Desktop 5050, same SKU 4533300 number, however the product on the bar code area tag box lists Model No: 1455, 1454, 1461. This is advertised as a new product? I do not fault Best Buy for the defective Microsoft product but I am disappointed that Microsoft would put out such a cheap made product, in years past they were always top of the line products. This is advertised as a new product and I would think that they would have better Quality control, could be just this product I purchased, but I doubt it. I will be returning the product back to the store.

Ok, the main reason I was in the market for a new keyboard is because most keyboards I use have INS/HOME/PGUP/DELETE/END/PGDN keys grouped together above the arrow keys. My old keyboard didn't have that setup and it drove me crazy because I kept hitting the wrong keys. The Microsoft Wireless 850 keyboard has the standard key placement and the price was right so I purchased it. WHAT I DONT LIKE......The function keys are sunken so you cannot just feel for them, you have to look. Doesn't sound like a big problem until you go to hit one and you literally have to look! Not only are they sunken, they're not spaced as most keyboards have with F1-F4 then F5-F8 etc. ALSO, the "blue" F keys are not programmable. There's NO information about what a particular icon means, just push them and find out but OH the blue FN control key to access the blue F keys is ONLY ON THE RIGHT SIDE! Most keyboards have that key on BOTH sides OR the left side. Keyboards just have standards that just cannot be changed! Like I said it serves it purpose but if I had it to do all over again I wouldn't buy it.

    Keyboard Space bar gets stuck

I had been looking into getting a new keyboard for some time now, and decided that this would meet my needs. I have always been a fan of the Microsoft keyboards I had used in the past and at work. After about a week of use my space bar continually gets stuck down when I am typing. After finding several different clever ways to pop the key back into a usable position while typing, I finally decided to investigate as to why it keeps getting stuck. I pulled off some keys and reset the metal bar underneath the key several times, but no matter what I do the key will frequently and periodically get stuck down while I am typing/coding. It doesn't seem to have anything underneath or blocking the key so I am baffled to why it keeps getting stuck. One other small detail, there is no light to let you know if your num, cap, or scr locks are on. I wish they would have put in something that would indicated that on the key board. As of right now I think the key board will do. As for next time when I am searching for keyboards, I think I have learned my lesson and would most likely go with a more expensive to avoid having issues like this.

I highly recommend this wireless mouse and keyboard combo. It's been over a month of use. I use it for work and it has yet to fail me. Before, I would need to disconnect my laptop which is connected to an external monitor, mouse and keyboard cause I need to be on the go. Problem is, when I get back and need to reconnect the mouse and keyboard, sometimes the usb connection does not recognize the mouse and/or keyboard. The solution would be to restart my laptop--which is a pain in the behind when you're in the middle of something (a 30 minute delay, at the very least). With this mouse and keyboard combo, I just leave the wireless usb receiver and when my laptop is docked on my desk, my mouse and keyboard are automatically connected. For me, this has been the type of solution I've been waiting for. I wish I would have known about this sooner. it took my wired mouse to go bad for me to even consider this wireless setup. Anyway, I highly recommend it. So far so good, Been reliable for me--no hiccups.

I do residential home plans (CAD) for personal clients, contractors and home builders. Every now and then I meetup at various locations (read coffee shops) and use a laptop to go over the drawing and make modifications to the plans. The separate keyboard and mouse allows me to angle the laptop screen towards the client, not having my hands in the way, and myself have a full size mouse and keyboard to use, while not contorting my wrists in using the keyboard. A small note the escape key is flush/low and using AutoCAD and Revit that key get used a lot. I may end up hot gluing something on the key to give it a little height differential to help find it more easily. F1 key next to it brings up the "Help" screen and it is more of an annoyance than a issue.

The texture and slight indent in the keys make it comfortable to type on, and the mouse is just right for my hand (small female). I tend to type hard, though, so I hope I don't shorten the life of this value-priced keyboard...but I'd still probably buy another of the same. My last wireless keyboard didn't have a USB device to signal the keyboard, but this one does. Since a computer never has enough USB ports, this was a problem, so I ended up buying a multi-port device for the printers, Cricut machine, etc. The ESC and F-keys are smaller than most keyboards, so I end up looking down to find them, instead of touch-typing; but I've gotten used to that.

I'm in "like", not actually in "love" with this Microsoft keyboard optical mouse combo. The keys are low and clicky, but lack the feedback of more expensive Logitech boards. The keyboard also has no LEDs, which I like to see when I've goofed and hit the CapsLock, again, a feature in Logitec keyboards. The instructions are pathetic, but that goes with accessories that are shipping to 18 different language countries. NOTE: There is no on/off switch on the keyboard, as there is on the bottom of the mouse. Surprise! The on/off on the mouse controls both devices! Which means you can save batteries overnight with one switch. Buy one as a backup; I did, and am not sorry at all.

I am so sorry I bought this keyboard. I have low vision and I liked it because I could see the keys without needing added illumination. This keyboard is like typing on an old IBM Selectric Ty6pwriter. You must push down on the keys. I keep ghetti8ng numbers in my words because my nails hit the keys. I thought this type of keyboard was obsolete! I thought I would be getting the type of keyboard I had before, which had to be replaced. I thought it would be like the keyboard we would get with a laptop computer. Very disappointed. I have a 2in1 large desktop computer because of my eyesight.

I had a wired keyboard and mouse that came with my Chrome Desktop and they worked just fine. After a while, I thought a different mouse would be a benefit so I looked into it. While browsing the Best Buy website I found this wireless mouse and keyboard set. I've always like the feel of the Microsoft Mouse, no matter which one I've used, so when I saw this desktop set for about the price of a decent wireless mouse, I thought I would give it a try. The keys press easily, with no loud noise and the mouse is easy to manuever, as is the left and right click.

Here's the deal: Price is good, keyboard is good. Mouse is bad. Expansion on mouse: It lags and is very sketchy. I've tried 3 different mouse pads and 2 different table tops. Max distance between the mouse and USB receiver (plugged into front to provide best possible line-of sight) is 4 ft. I'm running Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit on a Dell OptiPlex 7010 with Intel i7 3.4GHz & 6GB of RAM. Yes, I read the reviews before purchasing but did not think I would have problems as a few others have stated. Not sure why it's an issue for me, but it is. Resolution: Going to purchase a better keyboard/mouse combo and return this one. Glad I have that Elite Plus 45-day Return option.

Overall I like the size and feel of the keyboard and mouse. I was replacing an older set which had some delays and would miss letters when I typed. Probably a disconnect from the wireless connection intermittently. This new set is better, but I still miss letters from time to time when typing. It is a little frustrating when you type a longer message and you have to go back and correct from time to time. While my desktop module is next to my desk, it seems to work better when you have line of sight between the dongle and the keyboard. The mouse is sometimes delayed or slow to respond. Overall, it is better than the last set I had (different brand) and you can't beat the price. I would say the delays or omissions while annoying at times are still within acceptable limits.

I chose this keyboard because the layout of the keys was identical to the keyboard I use at work even though the CPU I bought for home use came with its own keyboard. Much to my surprise, and dismay, there is no indicator light on the keyboard to tell me I still have Caps Lock on. And also, I am always hitting the zero key in the calculator section when I really want to hit the right cursor because the sections of the various keys are closer together than I am used to at work. Otherwise, the keyboard is fine. But I wish Microsoft would have spent a bit more on including indicator light and lengthened the keyboard another inch or so to match keyboards used in the office. (There is also no number lock light but I always have Number Lock turned on, so that is not a problem for me.
