    Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 4000

At first, I liked this combo. The keyboard is comfortable, and while the alternate home/end/del/pgup/pgdn configuration takes a bit of getting used to, I now like it better than the standard layout. The alternate F keys are annoying, but hitting F-lock returns it to the standard F1-12. The reception on the keyboard gets erratic once you get to around 10 feet away, and sometimes you have to turn the thing sideways for it to register. Still, the keyboard isn't really the problem. The mouse, on the other hand, has all sorts of issues. First of all, reception is erratic. Even though the receiver is about 8 inches away from the mouse and level with each other (direct line of sight), somewhere between 1/3 and 1/4 of mouse clicks get dropped. Sometimes I'll sit there and click something 8 or 9 times, the mouse right in front of the receiver, before it finally registers the click. It's only the buttons though; mouse movement is fine until you get to about 4-5 feet away. Another mouse issue is the scroll wheel, whose tilt function feels fragile, and scrolling increments aren't defined, making it a pain if you need to scroll to specific spots. The biggest oversight, though, is with microsoft's software, intellipoint. If you're using Vista, intellipoint is incompatible with certain programs when it comes to the scroll wheel. For example, in iTunes, 90% of scrolling doesn't register, making it painful to scroll through your music library. Microsoft even knows about the issue, and is addressed here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/828677 but their first workaround didn't fix it for me. I had to uninstall intellitype, rendering my side buttons and tilt scrolling useless.

Very simple to install and run. Wrist wrest is very comfortable--a welcome addition since I am IT mgr and sit at computer all day. The keyboard and mouse are comfortable to use. The mouse is good and heavy--doesn't feel cheap. I didn't know if I'd like the curved keyboard, but after getting used to it, the keyboard does make typing easier for long-term use. The extra keys (like favorites and volume control) are a great addition. The only thing about it I don't like is that the system doesn't warn about low battery on either the mouse or keyboard. So when one of them get "squirrely" I know it's time to replace the batteries. However, it's not often since battery life is good. Mouse is averaging 4 months and keyboard is averaging 8 months between changes. I've had my mouse/keyboard 4000 combo almost 2 years now. OK, one more minor complaint--the function keys (F1-F12) are dual purpose, so inadvertant disabling the F-lock can be aggrevating, even though there is an LED on the control box telling when it's on or off. It would be nice if the LED was on the keyboard like a traditional keyboard (Which I know is not practical due to it being battery operated).

This is the best keyboard and mouse set I have ever bought. In fact, it is so great, I use it between all of my laptops. The mouse is so resistent, and it works from about 10 feet away from the recieving unit. The mouse also has better scrolling than any other computer mice I have in my house. The keyboard is even better. It has a scroller switch, and even 21 extra function keys, 5 of which are customizable to any programs of the computer. I have used this set for about 6 months, and I still have not replaced the batteries, after all day use, with no rest. The keyboard is so quiet. I type on my laptop computer, and that is louder than the keys on my keyboard. Pushing the keys is so easy, it's like poking a pillow. Overall, this is the best keyboard/mouse set you'll find on the market.

I found this easy to install and set up, and it works great. I am sitting back in my reclining office chair typing this review, something I could not have done before. The mouse is sensitive and moves the cursor quickly, but that is good. As for the keyboard, it will take a little growing accusomed to the layout, but in a few days that will work well also. The "My Favorite" keys are simple to set, and I find nothing negative to say about this unit. Sadly, because of all the negative reviews I almost chose not to purchase this, now I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews and went for it. You should too, I doubt you'll regret doing so.

Bought this keyboard and mouse to use in a living room as the bigscreen is often used as a practice monitor for presentations. I've previously owned the Logitec version of this and have returned two of them. I've had this one for a couple months and so far the Microsoft is the only one with enough wireless reach to work across the room. I'm not sure what others are commenting on when they say they have low wireless signal. I'm on my way out the door to buy another for my office computer.

We needed a wireless set and this was a bit pricey but is worth the money. Easy to set up, and easy to use. Mouse is better than I've found in a lone time. Fits hand perfectly, no stupid wire to pull at either! Keyboard is designed for comfort, and does just that. I would have like a more gel/like pad for it, but the pad is just as good. Shortcut keys work, unlike about 4 other boards I've gotten that ended up never working. So this is perfect all around!!

I purchased this keyboard/mouse combination for my wife for Christmas. She does a lot of work at the computer and found that the contoured keyboard puts much less strain on her wrists than the one it replaced. She also likes the tactile feedback from the keys. I am going to purchase another one for myself as soon as I pay off my Christmas debt.

I've had this keyboard and mouse for awhile now and I love it. You don't need to install the software unless you want extra features but all the buttons work for me and I didn't install the software. I just got a new computer with Windows Vista and it also works great. This is my first wireless keyboard & mouse and I would purchase it again.

I bought this as my first wireless keyboard and mouse thinking this would be a good investment seeing how big of a staple this technology was, and this was two years ago. It turned out to be a better investment than the two laptops and one desktop I have gone through since but I still have and use my microsoft wireless keybord and mouse.

Right out of the box, very easy to connect. Batteries are included for both the mouse and the keyboard. USB connection. So if you want to use a PS2 connection, you'll have to get an adapter. Great range. It isn't programmable for games. Originally bought it for the Playstation 3 and you can't program it for gameplay.

I love this keyboard and mouse so much that I have two! I don't have a problem typing on the keyboard, it's actually very easy to use, there is basically no difference from a regular, straight keyboard. The mouse works fine at far distances too. I love the shortcut keys, I use them all the time!
