    Pretty Nice But.....

I was reluctant at first to purchase a wireless keyboard and mouse. I was afraid the batteries would keep running down fast and I would always be replacing them. I’ve had the keyboard and mouse for nearly a year and haven’t replaced the batteries yet. Keyboard and mouse are fairly rugged but the mouse is a little bit on heavy side. My biggest disappointment with the product is the short range of the keyboard, only about six feet and that is only if nothing is in the way of the keyboard and receiver. I was also expecting a little USB receiver about the size of USB flash drive, but no I got a disk object the size of the mouse its self with a cord. Suppose to be a cordless setup and they send you something with a cord. As long as the disk is on the desktop in full view of keyboard and mouse everything works great. If receiver disk is behind computer, behind the desk or anywhere else out of view it starts losing contact with keyboard. Other than that it is a pretty good product.

Very Happy with my purchase! Maybe I'm just lucky

I was a little apprehensive about buying this given the bad reviews. I already had the same exact mouse (not the combo, just the mouse) that I've been using for over a year, and I have been very happy with it. The mouse promises 6 months of battery life on 2 double A's, and I found that to be pretty close to reality, and given this is the same mouse, I'd expect the same battery life. I just bought this combo a few days ago, so I can't be certain on the battery life of the keyboard, but I will say that for a $40 combo, the keyboard exceeded my expectations. I like how the keys feel when they are depressed (not real loud, they depress more than a laptop keyboard, but less than a lot of the clicky keyboards that often come with PC's) and the wireless is just as responsive as my old wired keyboard. As for range - my receiver is about 4 feet from my mouse and keyboard, and I moved it about 8 feet away to test the range for this review, and it worked just as well. So, if you're looking for a great mouse/keyboard combo, and you're on a budget, get this combo. And as always, if you're real particular about how your keyboard feels and sounds (different people have different preferences), I would try it out in the store.

Range is only 3 - 4 feet, very disappointing

I am extremely disappointed with this product, and will be returning it within 24 hours of buying it. I am so glad I bought this at a store and not online. I am buying a wireless keyboard & wireless mouse for a media PC. So the range needs to be at least 6 - 8 feet b/c I'll be using them on my couch away from the TV / PC. Problems with this product: 1. Range is not clearly stated on the packaging of the product 2. Upon purchasing the product, you finally get to read what the range is in the instructions. It clearly states 6 ft (1.8 m). 3. The actual range is about 3 - 4 feet. I tested it by moving the mouse and hitting keys on the keyboard while moving away from my computer. I found this product to be very disappointing & misleading. It would be great for just use on a desk, but the packaging should say so.

Good combo for a Desk assuming keyboard works

I bought this with intent to use for a living room media center. The box does not indicate range. Once you open the product and get to the bottom of the box, and look at the setup directions, then and only then does it say max range is 6 feet. This needs to be indicated on the outside of the box as well. Within that range the Mouse and keyboard respond and appear to work great. I wish that I could have tested the keyboard more in depth, but the most of the keys did not work at all. The scroll lock key typed a "w", the period key a "[", the "o" key acted as a switch program function key. Assuming this was a fluke and most fully work, then Would recommended for your desktop, but not for your living room.

    A Bad Buy!

Best Buy must remove this from their stock! As this item has been returned 2 times due to the fact both mouse and keyboard barely have any distance away from transmitter! Such a fancy transmitter and it doesn't even send the signal very far! Mouse will go a bit longer away, keyboard will not. Literally probably not any further than a legs length away and it starts to struggle. Horrible, as a write papers and it will skip a letter! Disappointing as I have started school and will have to take this keyboard back and again. Time and major inconvenience! Stay away from this model, Microsoft should be contacted and Best Buy be advised this is a faulty device. Not sure what I would get next.

I used the same keyboard sent with my Dell up until I found this keyboard. I chose it because it was cheaper than the others, and came with a mouse. It's wireless, so there are no cords to get tangled up. The mouse is smooth, and the mouse buttons are quiet. They keys on the keyboard are very quiet as well, and are light to the touch. The only negative I can really find with this keyboard is that there are a lot of extra buttons along the top that you can assign functions to -- as I don't spend that much time to assign them all! There is a few buttons though (like the calculator button) that I do find very handy! Overall, best bang for your buck. You can't go wrong with Microsoft!!!

    Terrible keyboard and mouse

i bought this trusting in Microsoft's products , but i do regret it and it wont be the same after this, the mouse scrolling is completely useless does not cooperate 95% of the time and the keyboard is stressful the keys stick constantly, if playing games its unresponsive and i constantly have to be pressing the same key for my character to walk or follow another character same deal when i am typing it's a headache especially when typing passwords letters and /or numbers are skipped you have to type slow motion and check count your characters as you go. This is the worst product Microsoft has put out it needs to go to the garbage, mos definitely do not recommend it.

    decent keyboard, terrible mouse

i've had this keyboard / mouse combo for approximately 30 minutes. the keyboard is pretty good - nice quiet key operation, good feel, looks good, etc. range is good if you're planning on staying at your desk - if you want to use it across the room, forget about it. the space bar makes an annoying squeak occasionally if i tap it just right. the mouse - in a word - garbage. the scroll wheel is terrible. it has a horribly cheap feel. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. when it *does* work, it's spotty at best, and i have to spin it a few times just to scroll a few line of text. don't waste your time with this one!

    Disfunctional Keyboard

The combo is disappointing. The keyboard is unreliable, even 2" apart. For instance the "Shift" key will not allow you to highlight multiple targets. The mouse does not move smoothly and the scroll wheel does not move all the time. The Windows 7 aspect to the mouse would be fine if it did not turn on with the least amount of pressure. Unfortunately I lost my receipt and cannot take them back. I already threw away the mouse because it failed more times than it worked. I can only use the keyboard despite having to rely on my laptop's keyboard for the "Shift" function. Use a different product.

    Great keyboard, bad mouse

I needed a new keyboard because i've been using my old keyboards from my 2002 eMachines and the Shift key finally broke so i bought this wireless beauty, so i start up Black Ops ok, well when i played online the mouse scroller was terrible, i had to scroll at least a million times for it to switch my gun, so i put the mouse in my desk and went back to my Logitech M310 which is a nice wireless mouse as well, the keys are very sleek, it will take a few days to get used to the keyboard, but it's a nice keyboard, so if you like wireless keyboards get this one if i were you since it also has the shortcuts onthe keyboard

    Not The Best...

Well, I was looking through all the keyboard/mouse combos and I found this one, and thought.. Well Microsoft, $39.99? Seemed pretty good.. Well the design is pretty cool, the keyboard looks awesome.. The software will let you tweak what you want for each button, like Windos Live Messanger, Hotmail, ect.. So I guess that's cool.. But the range is amazingly short.. It's not even 3 feet, make sure you set the USB receiver atleast 2 feet from the keyboard and mouse.. Even then, the mouse will sometimes not respond, aswell as the keyboard.. I would save my money, and maybe buy a logictech one..

Bought a 2.4 GHz because they normally have a longer range. This came with a large receiver puck (which was not shown anywhere on the box) instead of a stick. I thought, "great, ugly, but further range". WRONG! Even with this big puck taking residence on the desktop area, this keyboard STILL would not even reach the 7 foot across my buffet table. I am taking this back and looking for a logitech that will reach better. Don't waste your money on this one.

    Keyboard OK, mouse terrible

The keyboard is comfortable, with lots of reprogrammable buttons, but it's slow. It has trouble keeping up with quick typists, requiring me to frequently stop and go back to add in a letter it missed. Mouse is poor all around, doesn't track well and the wheel might as well not exist. Half the time it doesn't register that I'm scrolling and the other half it goes exceedingly slow, even with speed turned up. Large puck takes up space but doesn't give very good range, 6' is pushing it, if you've got a computer powering a TV, look elsewhere.

Good Keyboard for the Price. Bad Range.

    Posted
    roots4x

This keyboard looks good and is a good price. It's not ergonomic or premium in any way. There are a good deal of function keys on top that are programmable. Overall, it's just a well rounded, value wireless desktop. One HUGE problem is the range. Do not even think about using this more than a few feet from the receiver. At 5 feet away it gets spotty, and at more than 10, it's completely unusable. There's a reason there is no advertisement of range, as the receiver must basically be placed right on your desk next to your keyboard and mouse.

Primarily purchased this keyboard and mouse since we hooked up the laptop to our new TV and wanted a wireless means to type without having to pull out the laptop. Unlike our Logitec travel mouse that works on almost any surface and does not need to be in line of sight of receiver / dongle, the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard do need to be completely unobstructed from the receiving device. Would not buy another one. Going back to Logitec. It might be okay as a desktop, but we wanted something that extended a little further.

    Nice Design, Poor Range

I purchased this combo when I purchased my television. My goal was to set up a media center PC that I could control from my sofa. Upon setting everything up, it seemed to work alright, but then I realized that some keystrokes weren't processing. Turns out the 6 feet between the receiver and myself were too far for this product to reach. This product has excellent potential if you're looking for something to use on your desktop or notebook, However, it does leave quite a bit to be desired on the range aspect of it.

    Had to write a review!!!

This the first review I have ever written. I wrote it because this device is one of the worst things I have ever had the misfortune of purchasing. It sets up easily but neither the mouse nor the keyboard ever worked consistently. I give products every chance I can because I hate returning things. I initially just gave up on the 90% mouse input failure and just tried the wireless keyboard. It operates in two modes, one of ten keys missed or 4 or 5 keys missed. Shame on Microsoft for putting this to market.

    Scroll wheel doesn't function

    Posted
    dmac02

I love the keyboard, but the fact that the scroll wheel on the mouse is completely ineffective results in my poor rating. The scroll wheel on my $5 Dell usb mouse is one hundred times better. The wireless receiver/usb adapter is a lot larger than I expected it to be (the size of my logitech wireless combo when they first started making them). Hasn't technology advanced a little bit? Summary: Good keyboard (a little noisy) Terrible mouse Low tech, bulky wireless receiver

This was very easy to hook up and use however, the mouse is a big piece of junk. I really enjoy the keyboard so am disappointed that it's going back but I just can't handle the mouse. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it scrolls, sometimes it doesn't........ I have a small $20 USB wireless mouse that works WAY better than this one. I've tried to deal with it for almost a week but just can't stand it. Not a great buy for the price!

I've never been so disappointed with a purchase. So disappointed that this is the first review I've ever done. The keys require a heavier touch than most keyboards, the signal is more often low and requires resetting. This takes time and is very annoying. Response from the keyboard to the screen is low. The only good thing I can say about it is that the keyboard is light weight.
