This writer's review of the Microsoft Wireless Mouse 4000 begins (and continues) by comparing it to a past favorite of mine--the Microsoft Wireless Mouse "5000." Both models have blue track technology which can be used on almost any surface--except glass. Another great feature is that this model (just like the "5000) can work from up to 30 feet away. So many of the specifications offered by many sellers of this item state that it is good for up to 15 feet; however, I phoned Microsoft twice just to make sure and it is, in fact, good for up to 30 feet. I won't elaborate on "all" of the features during this product review; however, the advantage this "4000" model has over the Microsoft wireless 5000 model is that the 4000's Nano transceiver protrudes only some 1/4" once plugged into the computer; whereas, with the wireless 5000 model the Nano transceiver protrudes at least an inch after being plugged in. This is important to me as I always worry about bumping the 5000's Nano inadvertently. A lot of people would plug the Nano into a USB multi-port hub; however, I find with that configuration the mice "stutter" or don't respond as efficiently. Another great feature (similar to the 5000 mouse) is that the scroll wheel "rolls" smoothly rather than in ratchet style increments and when you are trying to zero in on a small area such as a line of a text it is much easier to achieve a precise location. It's super hard to find the Microsoft wireless mouse 5000 any more and I've seen them trending as high as $80 to $150 and Microsoft indicated to me that this wireless mouse 4000 will work just as well--only it is somewhat smaller in size. It is super comfortable to use! Lastly, the 5000 model requires two AA batteries and this one only requires one AA battery--less operational expense and lighter in weight. I use one for my office area and another while sitting in a Lazy Boy recliner several feet from a TV that is connected via HDMI cable to a laptop. Many thanks to Best Buy for offering a great sales price on this item!

This mouse is comfortable to use and a breeze to use on multiple surfaces. I use it regularly with my notebook on the couch and have rarely had a problem with the tracking. The blue light (as opposed to the mice with red lights) really seems to be more precise, in my usage. This color is a Best Buy exclusive, and it has held up well. There has been some fading on the bottom of what I believe is the serial number, which is expected since I am using a couch as a mouse pad. It installed on Windows 7 extremely fast and with it comes a disc with the drivers and Microsoft Intellipoint software. Windows 7 downloaded the newer version when I hooked up the transceiver for the first time so the disc was unnecessary in my case. This mouse has a button on the left which I have configured to go back, which is the default setting. I love this button as it makes web surfing even that more convenient. The buttons click quietly and it has a solid feel overall. I highly recommend this mouse. I have not had any issues with the battery dying quicker than the claimed 10 months of power, but I will not be surprised if it doesn't make it that long. I got this on sale for under $15. One last thing, although I leave the transceiver plugged in all the time, I do like how it can be stored in the mouse when needed.

I bought this first from Amazon for office use and I was so happy with it that after about a year bought another from best buy for home use. For smaller purchases I prefer best buy over amazon and other online retailer for the convenience of just walk up and return if that is necessary. Anyway, here is what I think of this product. Functionality: Other than bare minimum it has an extra button on the left side to be used with thumb. You can configure this in many applications for different functions. The scroll wheel is continuous and it takes a little while to get used to it. Other step by step scroll is easier to begin with but I prefer the smooth one. The pointer is precise, not as much as some of the gaming mouse, but perfectly fine for office or casual home use. Ergonomics: I have a medium sized hand, and this fits perfectly. Even after hours of heavy duty use that involves a lot of photo editing I have never felt fatigue or pain in my palm, the fact that it is lightweight really helps. There is another button on the left side which I don't use very often. The scroll wheel is precise and offers good resistance to avoid accidental scroll. The two sides have rubber grips that give you a soft and pleasing feel to hold the mouse. Battery Life: I use the mouse about eight hours, five days a week at office and a duracell battery lasts about three months. Quite happy with the battery life. It is important to turn off the mouse after every use to have the best battery life. I seldom forget to do that; if I didn't I think I would have gotten even longer battery life. Duraibility: Finally, the first mouse I bought is now more than two years old and still works perfectly. Just don't throw it around and play catches and you will be fine.

I've owned this mouse for over a year and a half now. I can confidently say that this is the one everyone should use with their laptops on the go. The best thing about this mouse is the weight and balance. It takes only one AA battery and it since just right of the center. This creates the perfect balance when you're lifting the mouse. The shape of the mouse perfectly contours to you hand (I have very large palms but it still fits me). The sides have a grip texture which allows for easy movement. The top is matte which avoids fingerprints and smudges. The scroll wheel is AWESOME. I've been used to the Logitech scroll wheels the have a click for every 3 lines of scrolling. This scroll wheel has NO clicking. It's just perfectly smooth with the perfect resistance. The side button is also useful although I've never found myself using accessory buttons that often. I set it to go back a page which is primarily useful when surfing the web. The Bluetrack Technology works wonderfully as well. I found the mouse to be very accurate and it works on a variety of different surfaces. I primarily use it on wood or granite tops but it does work on carpet as well. I haven't checked if it works on glass or not. In terms of battery life, this mouse is a beast! I always turn it off once I'm done using it which probably has helped me. The battery last at least a year that way which I consider very good. The USB dongle stores flush with the bottom and is very easy to take it. It's just the perfect design. Get this one!

    Great MOBILE mouse

    Posted

This is clearly labeled as a MOBILE mouse, hence its small size. So don't pay attention to the previous negative review. They apparently didn't understand what they were buying as pretty much all mice branded as mobile are quite small... That or perhaps they just have large hands in which case its small size could potentially be problematic. With that aside, the mouse works great and I have been very happy with it. I bought it to replace a larger, older Microsoft wireless mouse. I was tired of having the large wired receiver hanging off the back of my laptop. This mouse with it's mini receiver works perfectly for what I needed. While the mini receiver barely sticks out of the laptop I will still probably remove it during travel as it could still put unneeded pressure on the USB ports. I really like the fact that there is a slot on the bottom of the mouse to store the receiver if you do remove it from the computer, very slick. Also, the BlueTrack technology is fantastic. It works so much better than all my other optical mice (both corded and wireless, Microsoft and Logitech). I can use this mouse on surfaces that gave my other optical mice fits. For example, it tracks just as well on my shiny, black wood coffee table or on fabric sofa cushions as it does on an actual mouse pad! Very impressive! No more having to keep a mouse pad in my messenger bag! Overall, great little mouse. Highly recommended for mobile users.

I bought this mouse because I needed a cheap, bluetooth mouse. I prefer using AA rechargeable batteries because many electronics I purchase tend to use them, so having to find the right batteries that fit are easy because I always have a pair on standby... but enough about the batteries, this mouse is very comfortable to hold and has a pretty good range. I use it at work when I am doing a demonstration on a PC and I don't want to be tethered directly to a pc by a limited cable. It has all the basic functions I need to work with, attractive design, nifty storage bin for the wifi dongle, it emits a light to tell you green for good and red for time to change batteries. I originally purcased this mouse years ago. To my surprise my eldest child needed a mouse and happen to pick the same mouse for the same price that I paid. He uses this microsoft branded mouse on his macbook pro and now has all the right click features that wouldn't normally exist on a a mac mouse. They changed the packinging to promote windows 10 so now the box is blue. Cheap, effctive, comfortable, and worth every penny

As a traveler, I love this mouse. It's small enough to fit in my bag but also comfortable for my larger hands. The USB dongle has such a low profile that I never have to take it out of my laptop for transport and the blutrack technology allows this to work on all the different surfaces the hotels I stay in has to offer. The battery life is great using only one AA battery and the back button on the side makes is quick to navigate my file tree folders. The only thing that I found was that over a great deal of use (at least 2 years now) the rubber on the edges of the mouse starts to weaken and it catches the table and drags. Also the rubber on the scroll wheel also weakened and I actually tore it off. The mouse still worked in perfect condition as these were cosmetic issues and didn't effect the performance. Recently, the left button has started acting up and sometimes clicks and sometimes doesn't, so I figured it's time to retire the old one and get a new one. I hope I get years of life out of this new one but have been very happy with it so far.

Loss in mouse control DO NOT PULL OUT USB Rx out of the computer when powered. Pulling out Usb Rx will damage the mouse. You may get away with Rx pull 1 or 2 times but it will over time hot pull will destroy your mouse. Fix or Right Way Shut down computer by holding down the power button or unplugging computer. Ya I know that is not the way to shut down but you have to power down the computer before you pull the Usb Rx Then after the computer is off pull the Usb Rx out Power up the computer Install the Usb Rx Computer should recognize the mouse. I do this 100s of times and have never damaged the mouse. My mice wear out every 5 years and need replacement. I have destroyed dozens of MS mice pulling out the Usb Rx when the computer is powed on. Just Don't Do It

I have now purchased this mouse for myself and three others. When looking for a mouse I require a back button and prefer a forward button for the net. This one has the back, but sadly not the forward (not a deal breaker at all). The scroll is smooth and responsive with a nice side-scroll feature. I have been using my original for almost 2 years and am still on the original battery, however; I turn off the mouse most times when not in use. The dongle storage slot on the bottom is also very nice, but I leave mine in one of the ports 98% of the time. I was also able to plug and play, no drivers to be installed like some of my more advanced mice. Pros: -Compact yet fits my large hands well -Responsive scroll w/ side-scroll feature -Back button -Battery life -Quite accurate little mouse (also used as my gaming mouse) -Durable (has lived through several 3-4 foot falls) -Dongle storage that locks it in place Cons:- -No forward button For the price, this mouse can't be beat for a portable/wireless mouse. Sure, there's some great BT or gaming mice out there, but for 2 to four, or more, times the cost this one makes me very happy.

I purchased this mouse to use everyday at work and have enjoyed every minute of it! It is a good size, not too small in your hand, but also small and light enough if you need to travel with it. The scroll wheel is smooth and doesn't click like most mice (this was one of my main criteria in searching for a new mouse). All the buttons click very efficiently in your hand. The third/aux thumb button is very useful and even can be programmed through the software to perform different functions in each different program (i.e. Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, Windows Explorer). Finally, this mouse just looks very professional and elegant and doesn't have any bright lights or colors that would look obnoxious in a professional office. The best part of this mouse purchase is the pricing. It has all the technology and capabilities of the high-end mice, but is priced very reasonable, only slightly above the cheapest mice. I highly suggest this mouse to anyone because it would be perfect for any type of user (except maybe a hard-core gamer, but they probably already know this).

This mouse is a delight to use, it's a quality built product by Microsoft and because of this, it feels/fits great in my hand especially considering the price and when compared to other mice at this price point. What I like most about this mouse is the back button, its hard to find a competing product at same price that include this function. Another factor, at least for me, is the ease or "give" in both the right or left click keys, on some mice I have a problem of clicking stuff at random when my hand is resting on the mouse, just the slightest bit of pressure will set off these random clicks and lots of them. But with this mouse and other Microsoft mice, they will not generate a click from such a small amount of pressure and I love this. It's also great to carry with you when traveling, in fact I purchased a second one the other day. Trust me, I dont think you will be disappointed with this mouse.

This is an awesome wireless mouse! Fits perfectly in my hand. I’m female with small/regular size hands and it’s very comfortable to use. I use it every day at work with my company laptop and the adapter it small enough to stay in my laptop all the time. If you don’t want to do that, there’s a small slot to keep the adapter inside the bottom of the mouse. It has a battery indicator light on top of the mouse that turns red when the battery needs to be replaced. The battery lasts a very long time and can be turned on and off on the bottom of the mouse. Highly recommended and reasonable price.

This mouse is great and seems to work on just about anything you could ever need/want to use it on (doesnt seem to work very well on a mirror). Run it across the bottom of the laptop (glossy or not), the couch, the carpet, your shirt, the wall, the top of your head (yes, i tried a few odd things out but it seems to work on just about anything, it's great). Couldnt be easier to install, just put in the EXTREMELY small USB jack that it comes with (my only hope is that this peace does not get lost) and your good to go (and when it's not in use you can put it in the bottom of the mouse for storage). I have not had it long enough to test the battery that is said to last 10 months. It is very comfortable though (FYI i'm right handed). and the distance seems to be more than you would need, i tested as far away as 15-20 feet and it worked perfect (on my textured wall on the other side of the room)

Having had several wireless mice, i have to say i LOVE this one. BEST feature is the small USB reciever that is so short you can leave it plugged in all the time - even in a tight briefcase. (It does have the expected holder in the mouse but i never use it) On/off switch is essential if you want to just leave the USB reciver in the laptop - a welcome feature. Even if left on a LOT (which i admit i do) the battery life is terrific. BEST feature for ME is the programmable left button. I made mine a magnifier that, combined with the wheel, can either change the size/shape of the magnifying window and/or the zoom level. ONLY shortcoming is MS's lack of instructions on HOW to program the features. If you didnt know to dig and go into the software (find the menu), you would never know what it could do.

This mouse is great for the user who wants it to work over greater than usual distances. The Blue Track technology allows the mouse to operate over more surfaces than the red laser light. For example, white surfaces will not work with red light, but will work with Blue Track lighting. I have dropped this mouse more times that I'd like to admit, and it's very durable. It's not too compact, but smaller than normal mice. Use either rechargeable batteries or advanced batteries. The basic duracell that comes with it only lasts about a month during normal usage. There is a turn off switch on the bottom, which is nice to conserve life and for when you need to travel with it.

Have tried wireless mice in the past but was unhappy with them, just did not work very well. I have stuck with my wired mouse for years until it finally died. I decided to give wireless a try once again. I couldn't be happier with this product. Works great, good battery life, like the on off switch, don't have to install the receiver in the mouse to turn it off. The really great thing is the nano receiver, I can leave it plugged into my laptop even when carrying it in the laptop case. Installed the software and had mouse working within a couple of minutes. Works on every surface I have tried it on and have used it probably 15 feet from laptop while hooked to tv. I have only had this for about 3 months but so far so good.

i'v had this mouse since before the summer and i absolutly love it! its very comfortable, easy to use, love the USB storage compartment but i mainly just leavy it in my laptop, love the botton on it so you can go back to your previouse page, the scroll ball in quiet so you wont wake anyone up, the battery they give you with it is long lasting as a matter of fact i still have the battery in it from when i first got it! the clicking sound is pretty quiet! the light for the mouse on the bottom is LED and its kind of hidden so it wont blind you when you turn the mouse over its smooth moving! never had a problem with it! overall a great mouse for anything wither its for a laptop, desktop for you house, or anything else its a great mouse for anything that you want to use it for!

I was very pleased with my purchase of this mouse. It had a great price, the set up was very simple (came with software), it's very smooth and works on almost any surface (I use mine on a cloth ottoman without any trouble), and the battery seems to last a long time. I really like the on/off switch feature. The micro transmitter that plugs into the usb is definitely much better compared to the full usb plug in that sticks out 3-4 inches. I can leave my transmitter plugged in and pack my laptop in the bag without any trouble, and as long as I flip the mouse switch off, the transmitter doesn't use any of the battery. You can customize all 4 buttons to the way you like. Overall, this is a great product and you can't beat the price!

This mouse is excellent! It looks good, feels good, and works perfect. I usually leave the USB receiver plugged into my laptop. When I travel, all I have to do is switch the mouse on and it connects instantly all the time. I also have a frosted glass desk at home that I use it on and it works great. I tried it on a clear glass surface also but it doesn't work well on that surface. The design of this mouse is great, it feels extremely comfortable when using it and has a solid, quality feel to it. I'm not always a fan of Microsoft products, but I have to give much credit to them for this one.
