    2 Foot Range

    Posted

Wow, I've had some bad wireless keyboards but this one was surprising... Let me explain, to start with I was looking for a relatively cheap wireless keyboard to use for my laptop computer when I hook it up to my HDTV. I saw that this one was on sale and picked it up after having read the packaging. Microsoft says NOWHERE on the package that the range of the keyboard and mouse is only 6 feet. Well I still decided to try to use the product to see if maybe Microsoft was understating the range... instead I found that its worse then whats listed. At a range of about 2 to 3 feet the computer started giving a warning saying the signal to the mouse was weak and that the receiver needed to be closer. Then there is the problem with the keyboard. At a range closer then a foot, the keyboard often times doesn't read key presses, or skips some key presses. This means that you have to have the receiver far enough away from the keyboard but close enough for the mouse... meaning you have to be about a foot and a half away to use this product. I hate to think about what trying to use this with a desktop computer would be like. Finally the receiver for the device is huge. I realize its not Bluetooth, but the receiver has a foot print about the size of my fist, and s about 1/3 as tall. It is HUGE.. not something that you're going to want to toss in a bag if you want to go some where. All in all I'm disappointed with this product, from the high amount of key stroke loss, to the huge receiver, and the horrible (and I think inexcusable) range on the keyboard and mouse. I'm taking this product back as its barely functional... in fact I gave up trying to use this product to type this review out because it quit working for me.

I've had this keyboard for about a year now after I got it as a gift. I can safely say that this keyboard has terrible quality control. If you've read the other reviews you've seen how some people can't get it to do anything alright and others love it. I ended up with a mixed bag. The mouse works great it's range exceeds the 6ft range. The keyboard however could not type to save it's life at any range. After much experimenting I've figured the few things you'll need to do to make sure this cheap product works with any level of satisfaction. 1.) This thing sucks up battery power fast, the software that monitors the levels is dead wrong. Replace the batteries constantly at least every two weeks. Especially with the mouse, even when your computer is off the mouse remains powered on and drains the battery. The keyboard will continue to say it's okay but its not the range on it will drop to zero and you'll start experiencing dead keys constantly. 2.) The transmitter can be weak. To guarantee that it works properly it needs to have line of sight with the keyboard and mouse with nothing and I mean nothing in between them. Even the thinest desk table can wreak havoc with it. 3.) If your a gamer avoid this thing like the plague.

For the price compared to other mouse and keyboards it was a great deal. With new computers using usb mouse and keyboards it works sufficiently. Plus its wireless so you don't have to worry about tangling any lines or getting stuck in the jungle of wires coming from the back of your computer. Has a couple of keys that are really neat, like the shortcut keys to my music, my documents, and my pictures, also the media buttons. On the other hand there are no indicator lights on the keyboard that tell you if the cap lock or the number lock is on. Also the keyboard seems to lag a little and no respond as quick as if it were wired.

    Fading Keyboard Lettering

After several weeks of use, there was a noticeable fading of the lettering on the keyboard keys. Keys that were used only seldom such as Q and Z remained nice and vivid. Keys in the middle of the keyboard where most of the usage occurs were faded and hard to read. I have 5 of these sets and so far only one has shown this problem. Microsoft replaced it under warranty with no complaints once I found out how to contact them. Otherwise, it is a good set for the price.

This is a great product for the price. All of your most-used functions (calculator, My Documents, browser, volume control, etc.) at the push of a button. The only problem I've had is when playing music through iTunes, the mute button doesn't work. Strange conflict between software and hardware. This is the only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars from me (and that sounds like more of a problem with iTunes, since that's the only app that has the issue).

I saw this item on sale an i decided to try it, everything was perfect, easy to instal and set it up, the problem is now that i threw the old one away, it just skip keys pressed, or you can't be more than 1 ft away from the computer to use the keyboard, and the mouse just get freez to many times.. I will recomend you to spend a lil bit more and get something that won't make yourself mad at the time you're using your computer

    Great But

Being a developer I sit in front of this machine of mine for hours at a time. The annoying problem I have with this Keyboard is the mouse. When using the mouse I have found a problem with the receiver being able to sense the signal from the mouse clicks. Very frustrating and no know fix other than to buy new setup that is hard wired in. I have replaced battery, adjusted mouse settings and still no click. My rating for this product is disappointing.

Have had this Key Board and Mouse unit for a few years now, must have purchased it when it first came out, and haven't had a problem. I now have the same unit of my Desktops and hooked up my TV. The unit easly gets 10 feet of range or more and doesn't have a problem using two or more of these units in the same room, which was suprising. Over all a great buy if you looking for a simple but good Key Board Mouse combo.

no wires at all on my work desk gives me more freedom to stack papers and clean them off to a much neater looking desk. I can take the mouse with me accross the room and give presentations. it only needs the batteries refreshed every 6 months. Last nut not least the row of button on top of the keyboard let me turn the volume up and down durring a presentation and open certain programs without looking for them.

We bought this for the computer at the kitchen desk so we could slide it in the drawer when not in use. Works great, easy setup. The mouse goes through some batteries. We replace the batteries in the mouse about 4 to 1 when compaired to the keyboard. My little boy (4 yrs) tried to was the mouse for me and it still works. So it gets a good vote from me.

I've been using this set for a while now and it is pretty comfortable. The keys fit nice in your hands and you don't have to move all over the place like on some. It'd be better if the lights were on the keyboard, but over all I like it. It feels nice and lasts a long time. Still like a mighty mouse and mac keyboard more, but this is a nice set.

I bought this the other day. the mouse is just fine. i was able to scroll with it on the wall! as for the keyboard, there is no CapsLock light up sign, and its a bit old for my taste. you are better off shelling out another 20 bucks or so for the newer version of this desktop set.

The only problem with it is the wired receiver. But if you can place it out of sight, it is a great keyboard and the mouse works good. For the money, it is a good buy.

i would say if you have a small computer desk, do not buy this because the keyboard is huge.
