Don't Buy Without a Hard Drive...

    Posted
    Macheeoo

Personally, I would not buy this console bundle. It does not come with a hard drive, making it a poor deal for long term gamers. If you plan to have this a while and buy 10+ games for it over 3-4 years, having no hard drive kinda' defeats the purpous of having games. If you can't save, you can't get achievments... Without a Hard Drive you also can't get xboxlive... On Xbox Live, you can download new demos for games, game trailers, get extra content and even rent netflix movies and watch them on your 360. If you had to pick one of the three next gen consoles, you'd pick a 360. Yes, the PS3 has an amazing graphics system and yes Wii bowling is better than cow-tipping but the 360 has the perfect balance + many extras. Now, the developer of the 360 says it could handle the PS3's Metal Gear Solid 4. That is saying something... So Graphics are covered, if you want to get an idea, go check out some screenshots for games. If you ask a hardcore gamer which console is best for families, they might say the Wii. I'd agree, but the 360 doesn't fall short. The only reason I can think of that might say the 360 isn't as suited for kids iis because it has games like Halo 3 and Gears of War. Yes, I'd also agree that those games, being exclusive to the 360, make the 360 seem more like an adult gamer type console. Not a big deal, you've got loads of sports games, racing and your good old action adventure. The 360 has more games out on its' console than Wii and PS3 combined... Now, Halo 3 and Gears of War are not bad things. They represent the playability of the console. It's games, like Halo and Gears, pull out the hidden potential. You won't meet a lot of people buying 360's to not play Halo 3. Halo 3 sold 3.3 million copies of the game in 1 month, only counting $60 copies, that's $198,000,000 in one month. Some people went out and bought 360's just to own this game. That is how great the game is, how great the 360 is and badly you should want a 360. Xbox Live is a great part of the 360 community. You can play online with your friends and even play with people from around the world. The 360 is the best choice for hardcore gamers and little ones...

First off, take the best amount of care you can of your Xbox 360 once you buy it. It has many flaws that can be very random and unforeseen. There are many different errors including over-heating, GPU-failure, HDD-failure and disc-drive errors. Be as gentle with it as possible, keep off of carpet always (it has very fast-working fans that would basically suck up any particles on the carpet.) Give it at least 1/2 foot of surrounding area to help it get the air it needs and make sure the temp. in your house is NOT above 80 and you will most likely avoid any over-heating problem. If your console ever freezes or feels really hot and you start getting worried, don't. Buy a TS (temp. smart) intercooler. The TS intercooler Is nothing like the awful EX-intercooler that would melt and sink in to consoles and ruin the mother-board. The TS-intercooler has it's own cord for an external power-source and VERY fast fans that will suck hot air out of the console... and that's it. No melt-downs, no flaws, it seriously is a good intercooler. It helps, don't believe me, even check its ratings on Amazon, Wal-Mart, or here. To be honest this Arcade was my second console. It lasted til now (a full year) even though I was dumb and hit it really hard after getting FURIOUS with Left 4 Dead... like twice probably (loosening the GPU) giving me the RROD 4 months later. My first console was the 20GB launch. It didn't last long. I forget how long. I took better care of it than this but didn't have an intercooler for it. My old console had this Arcade console's same error called the E-74 error (caused by a GPU-failure). In some cases, the E-74 error is caused just by the AV-cables. Buy a new AV-cable to see if that was just the problem. If it wasn't, send your console into Microsoft. Just be aware of the Xbox 360's problems and know how to take care of it before you buy one and it will last you a great amount of time, and if not... the Xbox 360 is covered by a 3-year-warranty. Send it into Microsoft for repairs if it breaks and they will send you a refurbished console that will last a couple of weeks. To be honest, even though it totaled me up to $600 for this and the 20GB console, it was well worth it. A year of Xbox for $200 to me was well worth it. i spent around 8 hours a day the past week before this happened so that definitely helped it stop working. It's a much easier life than being a guy who needs a new phone ever 2 months, costing $500 each one (i know people). If my next console lasts at least 1 1/2 or so, I'll continue purchasing them. XBOX! NO ONE LIVES WITHOUT IT! YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT! YEAH!!!!!!! Games to find. BioShock The Orange Box Mass Effect Modern Warfare 2 Fallout 3 (soon) BioShock 2 (soon) Mass Effect 2 (soon) Dead Rising 2 (soon) Red Dead Redemption (soon) Singularity (soon) Rage

    Best Gaming System for everyone

We've got 3 of these in our home. It's fun for the whole family, adults and kids alike. Virtually all my adult friends (even ex-PS3 owners) have Xbox360(s) now. The Xbox360 is the BEST gaming system for REAL gamers running REAL games with REAL controllers - no toy/gimmick motion controllers necessary. It's a GREAT console for single-player, but what I like the best is the World Class ONLINE gaming through XboxLive. Lots of GREAT Xbox360 titles this Christmas season as well. It's easy to add a hard-drive to this Arcade model later by just snapping it on in 5 seconds, no tools or any hardware knowledge required! There have been hardware issues in the past with the Red-Ring-of-Death with the older Xbox360 models, but that's been fixed in the newer models and Microsoft extended the warranty for the older models to a full 3 years so it's FREE to get fixed for the first 3 years then $94 if out of warranty. My old 2.6 yr model got the RROD and I opened a ticket with Microsoft, they sent me a packing box with prepaid shipping label FREE and I sent it off and it came back within a week! My 2nd Xbox360 I got from BestBuy with the BestBuy 24-month extended in-store swap-out coverage. I recommend that, it wasn't too expensive for the convenience. Everyone (even the neighbors) just loves playing on our Xbox360. It's quite addicting. A must have for every family!

I baught the arcade version after the first xbox i had died it was the 1 gen 360's the ones with problems reason i gave it a 4 star not a 5 . After i baught this one so far so good had it for almost 2 years and no problems. And if you dont wanna spend the money for a wifi adapter you can always hook it up to your desktop/laptop and use it as a connection to internet. steps is for laptop with vista might be similar for desktop 1 go to your network and sharing center by right clicking the little icon with two screens and little planet on the bottom right of your screen 2 make sure you set it so you share your files if you wanna watch movies on your tv through your xbox that you saved on your laptop 3 on the left side click on manage network connections 4 hold down left click and highlight local area connections and wireless network connections 5 right click wat you just highlighted and select bridge wait a few seconds for it to be done 6 connect ethernet cable to xbox 360 and laptop 7 go to xbox360 and setup for xbox live follow instrunctions and right down key If you have movies on your laptop you can view them through your xbox on your tv just go to video library . But make sure file sharing is on not off which should be on if you did step 2 . I still cannt get media extender to play my movies throught it . i need to go to video library . ive tried reformatting it to mpeg and avi still wont play.

i started of with the pro edition....the 1st day i got it the system blacked out after 1 hr of play. I thought it was my tv so i tried a different tv and 15 min into the game it did the same thing. So i returned to best buy and exchaged it for a different one. Well that one only lasted me a week then it just froze all the time and didnt want to read my games, so i got tired of having to return it so my friend let me borrow his ps3 so i can test it out. Well the console is great real strong console but the online gaming really sucks even though its free and i thought about it for a day and i decided to do some research on all three of the 360 consoles turns out that less ppl had less problems with the arcade edition since its the 3rd gen and its cheaper then the ps3. So i came back to best buy and returned the pro edition for the arcade one and a 60g hard drive and ive had this console for a while and i havent had any probles with it.:)))))

    Great Economical Xbox 360

I bought the Xbox 360 Arcade after months of researching the different options for the 360 (Arcade, Pro, Elite) and I decided to get the Arcade for a number of reasons. The first reason was how much of an improvement it was over the discontinued Core Xbox 360. The unlike the Core, the Arcade had an HDMI port for High Def gaming and it also includes the new Falcon chipset which lowers the chances (doesn't prevent) of the RROD problem happening. Second, the games included with the Arcade version are great fun, although the Arcade games (UNO, Boom Boom Rocket, PACMAN) are not multiplayer unless you play them through Xbox Live. Sonic Tennis is a great game too. It was a little boring at first because I am not the biggest tennis fan, but after a few hours of playing it, I'm hooked. My third reason may sound weird to readers since I included this as one of my cons for the product, but I mostly bought the Arcade version due to the fact that it does not include a hard drive. I love this because it gives me the option to upgrade to whatever hard drive I desire. The Xbox 360 Arcade is free to be customized by the gamer. My final reason is cost. I bought my Arcade at the store for $215 with tax which is less than the Wii ($250) and half of what a baseline PS3 ($400) is.

A fair entry level Next-Gen Console

    Posted
    poematik14

The Wii sells well becuase of its attractive price point: 250 dollars for a "next gen" console. Although it isint next gen, as its RAM and CPU specs are laughable and 6 years old, its the price and controller that sell the unit. Microsoft recognizes a niche market that is growing very very fast; the casual gamer. The casual gamer doesnt care about cutting edge FPS's, he/she cant name the amount of RAM an Xbox 360 comes with, or the number of SPE's on a PS3's motherboard. But they like simple and fun games to hang out with freinds. At 279, Microsoft hit it at the right moment. Casual gamers will know that 360 has infinitely more features and power than the Wii, and is also expandable for an HDD if they want to downloading and media applications, or if they want to jump into IPTV which will be released with next months Fall Update. It is a canvas with which they can paint their own personal expression using: -The wide range on accesories -Themes and gamerpics -The Latest Games All in all, the Arcade is an excellent entry level console and a great jumping point for the eventual graduation to hardcore gaming.

This is my 3rd xbox. I bought the launch model, it red ringed after 1 yr, but was still under warranty. Then this past Saturday I got the Red Ring of Death on my 2nd 360, aka RROD. I bought a new one this past Saturday at my local Best Buy. I made sure that I got the new or 3rd generation 360 with the new Jasper Chipset. This 3rd generation 360 runs cooler and has a smaller chance of RROD. Do some research on the net and you can find out how you can tell which is the Jasper model. My local Best Buy had several of them. Xbox Live is great!!! People prefer that it would be free, but I feel that if it were, then it would be same similar to that of the PS Network. You know the saying, "You get what you pay for." I play on line for 2-4 hrs a night. Overall this is a great system just like the PS3 which I own too. I have no allegiance to MS, Sony, or Nintendo, I just love video games!!! If you looking to buy this system, for the money, the arcade bundle is the way to go, but if your into gaming a lot then buy the elite or pro system because you'll end up spending more for the accessories. One last great thing. You have 30 days to purchase the Best Buy extended warranty too, which I would recommend for any electronics purchase.

There really isn't much I can add that hasn't been said by the other reviewers. (some how I will try) >:) There are some that would say that the exclusion of a hard drive or component (HD) cables are a Con of the Xbox 360 Arcade but that really isn't the point of this system. For anyone looking to get into next gen. gaming this is an excellent starting point also this system is capable of having all of the feat. found in the higher end systems (The Pro & The Elite) through upgrades. (20 or 120GB Hard Drive,Headset for Live, ect.) With the included 256mb memory card you can gain access to full Xbox Live Gold membership without the use of a hard drive but with all that Live has to offer you probably will want to get one of the above mention HD eventually. (If I could give my two cents) You can have your cake and eat it too! With the content included this is an outstanding system for the price, and with tons of games already at retail and many more to come the Xbox 360 has a bright future. See ya on Live!! Great Entry-Level Console

Xbox 360 is a great console, and it just got even better with the release of the Xbox 360 Arcade! Now you can get a great Xbox 360 for only a little more than a Wii. You'll get HD gaming, great games (like Halo 3, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, BioShock, Gears of War, GTA IV and more!), an Xbox LIVE Silver account, a 256MB Memory Unit, FIVE free games, a wireless controller, and HDMI! It's a great deal at only $279. If you want more, you can get a Premium or Elite with more memory (bigger hard drives). Some people are worried about the "Ring of Death," but it is actually not that big of a deal now. There were a few shipments in 2005 and 2006 that were bad batches, but the new 2007 consoles are much better. With the Xbox 360 Arcade, you don't have to worry about it! The Xbox 360 Arcade has more features and better games than a PlayStation 3 or Wii. This is a great system, and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a new gaming console. See you on Xbox LIVE!

    It's a JASPER!!!!!!

    Posted
    Grav1

Pay close attention, because mine was made in December 2008 and it’s a “JASPER” mother board as oppose to the old “Falcon” mother boards that have been solely responsible for ALL the occurrences of the dreaded “Red Rings Or Death”. Jasper mother boards is Xbox solution to the problem and if your Xbox has 256mb of internal memory is HDMI equipped and the input power is 12V @ 12.1 Amps than you my friend have a Jasper Xbox 360. They do not sell this model for any of the other more expensive versions of the Xbox 360, not the “Pro”, not the “Elite”. At the moment, you can only find a Jasper board with the 65nm GPU chips in the Arcade version. Microsoft has even taken the step of hiding the power input ratings just outside the viewing area of the serial number window so no one can tell what kind of system they are buying, the old Falcon or the new Jasper. Good luck and happy hunting.

My family is going on our 3rd Xbox360 console now. The original failed with the noted RROD (Red Ring of Death) that I will admit Microsoft was quick to handle by replacing with a refurbished model via the extended 3 year warranty they have for this type of failure. Unfortunately the refurbished model has disc read failures so now I'm getting a 3rd console from Microsoft (BTW the disc issue is NOT part of the extended warranty). Unfortunately this is actually fairly common with these consoles. My son does not have one friend that has an Xbox360 that did not have some type of hardware issue with the box. On top of that the design and noise of the unit is poor when compared to other gaming systems (including the original Xbox). As fun as some of the exclusive Xbox360 games are and as nice as the Xbox Live set up is (although you do pay for that), the chronic hardware issues really drop the value of this product in my experience.

You can have the latest xbox hardware for way less than what you would pay for an elite or pro. You will get the latest processor and have onboard memory for $200. When you buy the arcade you are eligible to go online and order a 20gb HD and 3 months of Gold live membership for 30 BUCKS!!! I have also seen a refurbed wireless controller and 20gb HD combo for 40 bucks. Keep in mind there is a way to remove that 20 gb HD from the case and order a 120gb laptop drive and replace it with that if you feel inclined to do so for 45 bucks. In any case, you pay 200 for the xbox you go home and get on the xbox site, input your info, pay 30 bucks and 3 or 4 days later you have a hard drive and a live membership for a total of $230 + tax....not bad, and remember the drive is removable, if you get a little extra cash later on and you feel the need...buy a bigger drive.

I had my heart set one of these and my friends all talked about how great they were. I was a little worried about spending my money on this system cause it is a bit pricey but after comparing prices and looking at the ps3 and its price. I went down to best buy and I purchased the arcade one cause I like the price and being able to upgrade components when I like. I went home opened my box look inside it was very well packaged, I check out whats inside I was very happy . I always like the idea of having a wireless controller cause it get me freedom to put the controller anywhere I want. I turn the console on it fires right up no problems. I load up my game , wow I am impressed the graphics are amazing. I almost feel as if I am in the game. This unit runs smooth. I am thinking why didn't I buy this sooner. All my friends have one and love the system. I can now say I am a proud owner of an Xbox 360 .

I bought a 360 as soon as they came out, which if you have heard the first 360s have had numerous problems. I've had some problems with the system reading brand new games or games without a scrath, but it could also be related to my brother moving the 360 from a vertical position to a horizontal position while he was playing it....I hate him. Anyway I already have several great games for it like COD4, Gears of War, Halo 3,.... and Gears of War 2, Left for Dead, and I have my eyes on the new Batman: Arkham Asylum game coming out in 2009. I think I'm going to have to buy another one just for the games. I think the 360 has the best games for teenagers and adults out of the top three consoles now (360, PS3, and Wii) I'm ticked off that I have to buy another console when I could be using the money towards the games I want for it, but I guess I can always rely on Christmas presents.

This is a very good console system. It includes six games to get you started out. To me that was a very, very good deal. However, i spent another reasonably large amount of money to get the hard drive and some other equipment because lets face it 256 MB is DEFIANTLY not enough. But, however, i did get to play right away. When i got the hard drive i was allowed to play original xbox games, i believe, however i never actually had an original xbox i'm assuming that you can play originals. I was allowed to download demos because i had enough space. I was allowed to upgrade my dashboard and use live more efficiently. A 20 gb hard drive is enough space if you are a recreation gamer like me and do not download to much stuff from the marketplace. Remember games only take up up to 5 GB. But consider buying this and then buying a hard drive to save a little money. Thank you

I have owned 4...FOUR of these units...I love the product...however...everyone I've owned has failed...3 including the most recent one from the red ring of death and one would not read ANY discs fresh out of the box. The first three I bought from another store (that has nothing to do with the failure) because I preferred their product replacement plan...they actually stopped offering their product replacement plan on the 360 because of the 33% failure rate. Because of their plan though I got the most recent one from them and it has the supposedly new and improved hardware that is supposed to prevent this issue...it obviously did not. Bottom line...it's a great product...but the integrity of the hardware is shakey at best. Unless you're partial to certain system exclusives...go with a different system or get a nice pc that you can upgrade.

This console was my second one. I originally bought the 20GB console, but after 6 months of use, it got the 3 flashing red lights, Red Ring Of Death. After having this console for about 7 months, it too got the Red Ring Of Death. However, this time it was only 2 red flashing lights, which means its overheated. Every time I've had the RROD the console has been cold or cool and not played more than 20 minutes. Now I get the lights as soon as I turn it on. Being that this is my second console, I called to try and get my money back, that's a NO GO. Now its in the mail and off to be repaired. I won't see it again for another 2 months. Do yourself a favor, and do NOT buy an XBOX 360. Save your money and go for the Sony PS3 quality. You can watch blue ray DVD's on that thing and without any overheating worries. Say no to XBOX!

I love this thing so far! I've had nothing but good luck except for a bad rental of The Force Unleashed but that CD was totally messed up. I play Halo 3 live with all the friends i haven't talked to in months because of school. This will keep me in touch with my friends and brings wide entertainment and relaxation. But the best thing to do is to buy the arcade and then get the 60 gb HD Live Starter Pack. its a bit up there for a $100 but totally worth it. the live pack has an extra mic for the inevitable breaking by sitting of your first. It also has a 3 month live gold membership. WORTH IT. TRUST ME. and the RROD usually only happens when you have about 2 million add-on's hooked up to the sucker. Just dont play for the whole weekend and take a break to eat every now and then and the system will be fine.
