    Great Deal for an Elite

My original Xbox 360 died in November of 2008 and I needed a replacement. The warranty expired and Microsoft wanted $100.00 to repair it. I’ve invested too much money in games, Bluetooth wireless headset, wireless controllers, rechargeable batteries, rechargeable battery kit and Xbox Live Gold to simply walk away empty handed, so going to a PS3 was not an option. I have purchased gaming consoles since the Atari 2600 and never have I seen as many console problems as the Xbox 360. That includes the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Saga Saturn, the Dreamcast, PS, PS2 and my Original Xbox which still works. I was looking for deals on the web and saw the Limited Addition Elite. Several things sold me. The Color, I liked the Red better than the white or Black. A game that I will actually play in Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter II HD took me back to the Super Nintendo Days, HDMI cable that comes with it to hook it to my TV. A headset for online gaming, Microsoft made an improvement on the headset as well. The switch to mute the mic, broke on my original headset it was too small and flimsy. I had to open it up to UN Mute the mic if someone muted it by mistake. The new headset has a much larger switch that looks weird, but is much more practical and sturdy. The 120 HDD is a plus, my original was 20 HDD, when Microsoft did the update and I downloaded one game to the hard drive on my old 360 it was full. The Red Wireless Controller is cool. I purchased the Unit yesterday (3/18/09) and played it for 3 hours after hooking it up and noticed several differences. I did not play any of the new games that came with the 360 because I wanted to test the console out to see if there was a difference. Everything!! I tested Madden 09, Gears of War 2 and they played without out a hitch. Game play was smoother and faster, reaction time was great (No Wireless Internet connection I use a CAT 5e Cable that I already had, there is a Ethernet cable included if you do not have one) and thanks to the HDMI cable the picture quality was a bit more vibrate. It sounded good through the surround sound using an Optical Audio Cable (Not Included). The Unit ran much quieter than the original 360 I purchased, Keep in mind if you load the game to the hard drive it takes up space, but runs very quite because there’s fewer moving parts during game play. And the big plus, it barely got warm, my original 360 was extremely hot after 20 minutes of game play. Microsoft does a poor job of explaining this. The 360 was not built to be placed inside of any entertainment centers that are enclosed or that have a door. Rule of thumb, any electronic device that has a lot of breathing holes needs to breathe for a reason, IT GETS HOT!! My cable box also overheated for that reason, so now I place any electronic device with holes all over its housing in an open entertainment stand or desk with plenty of air to keep it from overheating, this includes the 360. It is too soon to say if this unit was worth it, but I will say it is off to a great start. If you can wait to purchase the Elite and save the money it is worth it, for what you get, and if you can get the limited edition, then go for it. I was a Play Station guy for years and fought Xbox fanatics over the new PS3 being better, but they waited too long and when they finally came out at over $ 600.00 they lost me, and now I’m a PC…………..

    Great system, greater value!

First off, I don't write reviews often. So, forgive me if I ramble; now on to the point at hand, the hardware. I pre-ordered this from Best Buy.com and got it a day before release. As it stands the hardware is exactly the same as mostly every other Xbox 360 with the exception of the fact that this has the new Jasper motherboard and its red. I must say that the red is ascetically appealing for myself but others might loath it. Especially since it's a matte red rather then gloss. Visually the system is stunning on the appropriate set-up. Any one wanting a high definition gaming system should look no further. As it stands this system is a better value then other Elites since it not only comes with a copy of Resident Evil 5, which is most excellent, but it has a card allowing for a free download of Street Fighter 2 HD Remix and exclusive RE5 theme. I must admit at first I didn't care about the Street Fighter download, as I'm not into fighting games but its actually pretty good fun. On other Elites you either get no games or some bundled title of little interest depending on the season. So, with this bundle you’re not only getting a better value but a potentially fun game to play right out of the box without having to spend any more money. Regarding Resident Evil 5. I think it’s a fun game. It's more like Resident Evil 4 then older RE titles but remains enjoyable albeit more of an action game then survival horror. In my opinion the game shines with the co-op function. Not only is the game easy to play with a friend but it functions well too. Granted, I've only been playing it for a short time but have experienced no lag or disconnection issues. Concurrently, the game is just as playable alone too. I admit having the computer play as your partner is no substitute for a person but it does react surprisingly well. That especially holds true in battle situations. For example, if you need ammo the computer will give you some of its stock. Moreover, if you are running low on health the computer will heal you. At times the computers reaction seems pretty random but overall it works petty well. All, in all this Resident Evil 5 Elite bundle is an excellent choice for anyone wanting to get into this era of gaming. This bundle will also satisfy anyone who's looking for an Xbox 360 in a color other then white or black. Not only does the system look nice but it truly is a better value then the other Xbox editions available. As for Resident Evil 5 I think it’s a great game worth checking it out.

Ok, so I got the red xbox 360 elite because I was bored with my PS3. I wanted a system that could play the best video made (halo 3) and I also wanted to stream high def movies from netflix (very cool). I happened to be at the store on Saturday when this special edition came out. Needless to say, I bought it right then and their (I was going to resident evil anyways, so why not get the special edition and save $60 bucks). Everything about the xbox 360 worked great until it got to a certain point in each game. Once this point was reached, the screen would go blank and then the previous image would appear. From then on the system was frozen solid. All I could do was restart and start playing again from the previous save point until the system would freeze again. I think there might have been a defect with the cd drive since netflix and demos worked fine. I ended up taking the system back to bestbuy but all the red editions were sold out in my town. The manager at bestbuy said if I took a normal xbox 360 elite, he would give me the resident evil for free (I don't care about the color so I took the black xbox 360 elite). I have to say, I like the quality of the reqular xbox 360 elite. The black controller doesn't make a squeaky noise when turning left or right unlike the red controller. I own both a PS3 and xbox 360 now. I have to say the xbox 360 has better graphics on my 1080P tv and the xbox 360 has halo 3 plus netflixs. I would recommend the xbox 360 over the PS3 anyday. However, if you are going to buy an xbox 360, you might want to go with the regular xbox 360 elite (the black one). I feel it's quality is a little better and there might be issues that still need to be resolved with the red edition (since it has the new Jasper chip set).

Just to comment on some of the reviews before me: 1. The fact that it's red does add to its limited edition status (since they'll probably only be around for a short time like this), but it's moreso because of what comes packaged with it. Not only do you get RE5 for free (one of this year's most highly anticipated games), but you also get an SFII Turbo HD, a play-and-charge kit, and an RE5 theme all for free. Just those four items are almost $100 on their own. On top of that, this Elite might be one of the first Jasper-series Elites to make it out to the market. This topic leads to my next comment. 2. Currently, only the Arcade models have been confirmed to have Jasper-series internals. By this I refer to the latest model of Xbox 360 in terms of what Microsoft has done to improve the system over the past 3 years plus. These latest models actually represent the 5th revision (one of them, the Opus series, not making it to retail but seen with some Microsoft refurbished units) to the 360 and are considered to be Red Ring of Death (RRoD) Proof. The previous units, the Falcon series, are the ones most currently available (as Pro's and Elites) in stores and have shown an excellent track record so far. So basically, RRoD should no longer be a concern. 3. In the durability department, Nintendo definitely beats Sony and Microsoft. Though I agree that the PS3 has proven to be more durable than the Xbox 360 overall.

Great console, not so great game problem.

The console works fantasicaly. It runs quieter with less heat and uses less power. The black and red controlers look sharp and the HDMI port is a huge step up from my old 1st generation Xbox pro. Overall I'm impressed with the package. My only complaint is the game won't play for me and apparently many other customers who bought their bundles from this particular store. I got this bundle on the day it was released (03/13/09). I got it home sat down to transfer all of my data off of my old 360 pro. 2 hours later I was ready to play. I put in the Resident Evil 5 game that came with the system and it wouldn't load. I restarted the system and tried it again and after an update to the game it loaded fine. I was able to play through the tutorial portion of the game and then it stopped working with a disc read error. After many attempts to get it working correctly I attempted to get a replacement for the game. Well after three trades the console still works great but the game doesn't work at all. I have tested the game in 3 different systems the two with the NXE (New Xbox Experience) won't play the game at all but the system that had the old Blade system on it played the game fine. I was looking forward to playing this game sometime soon but now I have to wait till the end of my work week to take the game back yet again. Hopefully this time Best Buy will just replace it with the retail version since it only seems to be the bundled version that is having this issue.

360? Elite? RED?! Resident Evil 5?!?!? Yes.

The 360 is second best durability wise to PS3, but beats it in features and games hands down. I highly recommend this console, there's gotta be over 250+ games already, on top of the best online game play and performance, and you can save movies, music and pictures, AND watch Netflix with full HD through this system(You will need to use the HDMI cable to get full HD). This console comes with the brand new game Resident Evil 5 and it is a limited edition Red Xbox 360 Elite, with a matching red controller, headset, charging cable, an HDMI cable, along with the huge 120 GB hard drive. For the same price as a normal Xbox 360 Elite, you would be crazy not to purchase this bundle. The reason I say this system is second best is because I own a PlayStation 3 and it has not broken or acted weird on me or anybody else I know since day one. Xbox 360 has a problem with overheating from excessive game play or being in a hot place, which results in the Red Ring of Death(believe me it's as bad as it sounds when your in the last level). This can be easily avoided by keeping it in a cool place off the floor where a lot of air can flow through it. Standing it on it's side helps too. Be warned, do NOT buy a fan for it that uses the 360's power, if you must have one buy one that has it's own separate power source.

I bought this bundle the 1st day that it was available in stores and I absolutely love it. My xbox doesn't make much noise, it included a HMI cable and a game that I would actually play, overall it is a great system. I own a PS3 and even though you can argue which system has better graphics...you can't argue which system has the best online features. Yes, the yearly fee is $50 to play online but it is worth every penny. MS does a great job in updating their news, demos, etc. The only problem that I have is that some things about the xbox seem like an upsell. No wiFi? C'mon, its 2009! If you don't want to run an ethernet wire to your xbox then you need to pay $100 for the wireless device. The controller batteries run out extremely quick...I'm on my 3rd set of duracells and I only had it for 3 weeks! To avoid this you must buy a charger kit for $30. These are extra expenses that you don't have to worry about if you device to go for the PS3. If you have friends that own an xbox then this is a must. I also bought gears of war 2 with this purchase and playing it online with 4 other friends its just addicting. However, if you're a solo player that is into blue-ray movies and hates the feeling that you are being upsold then I would go for the PS3.

    Grade A Bundle

It's a great deal. Not only do you get the Xbox Elite, you get a great game with it. ***Beware: Tech-Head talk Below*** Those of you who are worried about the performance of yet another Xbox 360 console need not. Contrary to what cartmansentme's review would have you believe, Xbox 360's are now made with an entirely Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) called the "Jasper." Unlike the original Xenon processor, the new Jasper motherboard has a significantly bigger heat-sink & didn't require as big a CPU either. The DVD drive isn't sitting on top of the GPU this time around either. Everything is improved, from the cooling devices, to the CPU, GPU..."everything." A great console, a great game, a great hard drive & more, all for the same price as a bundle with those cheapy games no one will ever play. If you're getting an Xbox Bundle, this should be the one. Oh...and it's shiny & red too...lol... Happy shopping!

    Awesome Purchase Until.......

Ok so this is the first console I've purchased for myself since the Nintendo 64 so I was pretty stoked. Pre-ordered a week ago and arrived today. Opening the box and setting it up was a breeze. I did notice when I turned the Xbox upside down it sounded like a dislodged piece was moving inside. Downloaded the Free SF II remix and Theme with no problems. Played a few games on Xbox Live no problems. After "getting used" to the system, I go to play RE5 and noticed both the top and bottom of the box is shattered to pieces. I put the disc in and get the "unreadable disc" message, this is a brand new disc with not ONE scratch on it. Since I had read the posts below I knew it wasn't the xbox itself. After a short trip to the closest bestbuy, who was fantastic in exchanging my RE5 for a retail version, I finally got to play RE5. Seems the special edition RE5 disc is plague with this bug, the net is full of posts from customers with the same problem. Bottom line is i'm glad I'm back in to console gaming, hopefully the little piece that is dislodged in my system won't cause any problems......

Well microsoft did it again. I have never liked microsoft so no suprise about this product. This does not go out to Best Buy because i am a loyal customer, but this does go out to microsoft and xbox fans. Ok, this is just another trick to get you to buy another Xbox. A "Red", one. The only reason i bought this was because my best friend has one and i wanted to contact him. But boy was i wrong. Just like a normal 360 this one is a lie. Dont fall for the great "JASPER CHIPSET". It is a scam. I never thaught i would pull my hair out to such a horrible product. This thing crashed the first day i got it. And no, it is not because it was one out of a "bad batch". It is because Xbox is horible. It got the ring of death the first day and the graphics were horrible! Even in my HD TV, they were horrible. Even when i plugged in my HDMI. So i went back to Best Buy, because their service is great,(waranty), and exchanged it for a PS3. Wow my life was already turned around. Great games, graphics, and Blu Ray. It is probably the best product in the world. I reccomend the PS3 to everyone.

Ok so i have owned an xbox 360 since they were released and i am on my 5TH one. You name it i have had the problem, my last one went out about a month ago cause the GPU (grapics processing unit) went out completly on me, so i waited for the resident evil box to come out and i only have one complaint and i guess from reading the other reviews that it is a common problem. That the red controller squeeks on the right joy stick. Other then that i have no complaints mine works geart and i noticed that it is quieter then my other ones which is nice. I also like the fact that there is netflix on the dash board. I would recommend xbox 360 over PS3 anyday.

Though this is my first system since a PS2/XBOX, I have to say I'm very impressed. The space on the hard drive is huge, the graphics look excellent, and it gives you a lot of room to customize not only the menu's but also the pre-sets for games you will play in the future (i.e. you can set up automatic inverted aim for shooting games and ect). My only complaint would be that it runs a little loud. It's nothing too crazy, but if you had it in a small room with the volume down it could become somewhat of an annoyance. Overall great console though!

If you're into owning Limited edition video consoles or you don't have an xbox 360 this bundle is a no brainier. Once these are gone they're gone and they are already gone from EB and Gamestop, these are going to be very rare and nothing like the Halo edition console which are still sitting on some store shelf's and web sites because they were mass produced in ridiculous amounts, not this bundle, get it while you can this is a hot one. Oh, and don't forget RE5. Come on Friday the 13th !!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, this is my 2nd XBOX 360 and what a great bargain. This included the same hardware contents such as 120 gig HD, headset, hdmi cord and capability plus Resident Evil 5. I have a PS3 and a Nintendo Wii and definitely enjoy the games and contents more on my XBOX 360 than any other system (besides Blu-Ray). The only issue I had was the controller should have come with Plug and Play with a RED battery. I don't even mind buying the plug and play set but I have even seen it in RED at any retail location.

I had this Resident Evil Elite system for not even 24 hours when the red ring of death happened. I thought these new Jasper consoles were suppose to be improved, but I guess not. Took it back to Best Buy and exchanged it with no problem though. Hopefully it was just a bad one in the batch. I have to admit, the graphics are crisp and game selection is fantastic. I just hope this one lasts...

Got out of package and instantly said unreadable disc error. After google diving for a while, found a way to fix by doing HDD maintenance by pressing XX R L YY or something like that at the hard drive screen. After that, no problems with games. Returned the RE5 game to best buy just incase it was the game and would fail again later (after it had a couple times) and they switched it out no problems. Now its running perfectly, beautiful graphics, amazing gameplay, really worth the cost in my opinion.

Broken memory card door right out of the box. Doesn't play resident evil 5 right out of the box gotta update it. trying to update, i got several errors. I own a ps3 as well and the overall quality/feel of the xbox is still lacking greatly to the ps3, wish it had wirelss capabilities you didnt have to pay for as well. Definately more noisy than i imaged this gaming console would be. Graphics are good thoa and has a larger variety of games, This one vs the regular elite is still a better deal.

I mean, you can't beat the price, that is why i bought it. It just makes complete sense. I already own the Halo Edition Console as well. I was looking at getting an elite for a while and this is the perfect opportunity. My only problem with this console is that it seems to just be a red case??? Is there anything limited about it like the halo edition console? I hope so. I guess i will find out when it arrives. But overall, for the price, you can not beat this.
