Great choice for casual racing gamers

For anyone thinking of picking up a wheel for casual racing gaming, this is a really good choice. I purchased the Wireless Speed Wheel for use with Forza 4. The wheel really works great in Forza - it exceeded my expectations for control in the game. I wanted a racing wheel but was hesitant to buy a larger table top wheel due to how much space it would take up in the living room when not in use. This is perfect as when it's not in use, it can go right in the drawer with the rest of the controllers. Build quality of the wheel is really good. The buttons and d-pad feel good (it's the same d-pad as a standard 360 controller; the colored buttons are slightly smaller than standard but feel the same). Depending on what game you are using the wheel with, the controls are customizable. In Forza, you can assign shifting to either the d-pad or the colored buttons (if you use manual shifting). The controller has the standard vibration motor and it works well in game. As it's a wireless wheel, it does not have force feedback (as it lacks the base for motors and such), but the vibration works well. The only major downside I found is that you can't shut off the green halo lights on the top of the wheel. They come on when the wheel would be giving force feedback (if it did have force feedback) and it's kind of annoying at night. It also doesn't have a jack to plug in your Live headset - you need a wireless headset if you want to use a mic.

Good for beginning XBox 360 users

My Xbox is not hooked up to a computer and had a bit of hassel getting wheel controller set up. After that... Xbox 360 is very sensitive for steering at least on NASCAR 2011 and this is MUCH easier to use than standard controller. Couldn't feel bumps, but considering I'm new to game consoles, this wheel is a good learning tool and worth the price. Have not tried it on other racing games where other features stated in previous reviews are mentioned. Battery life could be a factor - the game did pause after using it a while, but was able to continue current race session after switching batteries. Plus it uses 2 AA batteries which are fairly inexpensive. Would be nice if the wheel was stationary or could be mounted to a surface - arms get tired after holding it a while. Bought the XBox 360 used and rented NASCAR 2011 in anticipation to see how well the system works for the upcoming release of NASCAR the Game 2012 (2013?) and today bought the wheel. Considering I am a beginner, I do intend to use the wheel at least until I learn the system better. And at after using it one day and the console a short time, I'm looking forward to the release of the new NASCAR game!

I just purchased the speed wheel 2 days ago and have about 5 hours or so with it. My initial reaction was that this wheel is very sensitive and responsive. I like the "long" LT/RT buttons which really allow you to ease the gas and brake. But, after a few hours, my initial thoughts that this wheel was solid started to fade. The wheel is very hard to race with because it is super sensitive. Any slight movement and the wheel/car is turning (playing with Forza4). It's at a point where it is almost impossible to drive. Even with drag racing - using the wheel and trying to hold it straight, the cars will all pull hard to the right. Then, I use the actually controller and boom, straight as can be. Turns out that the controller is easier to use then this wheel (or for me it is and I get better results). As many have stated, there are no bumper buttons, no mic connectivity, and no clutch button (with initial config anyway). WHAT is needed badly with this wheel is a base of some sort. Without it, it is just too difficult to use. I think I'm going to return or try to sell mine and get a real wheel because this thing is bad. Microsoft really screwed up with offering this over a real wheel.

A good controller with a few minor quibbles. I didn't have the space or setup for a full racing wheel and pedals, so I thought I'd try this. First of all, it's very accurate, especially after some adjusting in game. Turning down saturation a little really perks it up. Works great on PC assuming you have the wireless adapter, not included. It's light, and durable. My only complaint is there are no bumper buttons to be found anywhere. If you game requires them, you're out of luck. Thankfully a lot of games allow you to configure your own controls. Takes a bit to get used to and dial in, but once you do it's excellent. It really adds a lot of enjoyment to racing games once you get used to it. The vibration is a little weak, but a minor complaint. The controller has glowing led's that light up during game play. A bit distracting, and bright in the dark but I can overlook it. Overall recommended if you really enjoy your racing games.

I received this as a gift for Christmas. I had seen them being used at a Best Buy, but never got to try it out myself. I was always used to the laptop/tabletop steering wheels, and thought that I would like this one. I told family I wanted the speedwheel instead of the xbox steering wheel/pedals, because the steering wheels/pedals did not include a clutch pedal. I am a fan of driving manual transmissions and no clutch pedal means no go with me. At first when I started using the speedwheel it was hard for me to adjust. Let me be clear, it is about half the size of an actual steering wheel. Also, the sensitivity is very high. I had a buddy over and he instantly got the hang of it. I have been using it more and more for about a week now, and it has grown on me tremendously. I highly recommend the speedwheel if you are a big racing game fan. I really only play racing games and a few others. I don't get into shooters or sci-fi, so this controller suits me greatly.

If it lasts long enough to be enjoyed. I bought this wheel to use with Forza 4 (an excellent game, BTW) and it is well designed as far as it goes. The lack of L/R sticks and L/R buttons severely hampers Forza 4. Only about 50% of the game's functions are accessible without switching back and forth between this wheel and the conventional controller. So beware when a game says it supports this wheel - chances are it doesn't fully support it. The real problem with this wheel is the build quality. I am on my third wheel and even this one has issues. The first 2 had sticky D-Pads and A/B/X/Y buttons that functioned sporadically. I am keeping this one just because I am spending more time between home and Best Buy than I am playing Forza 4. But, for a $60 controller, this is one cheap piece of plastic junk.

    Worth the Money

I just purchased this for myself and my kids for racing games. I am completely impressed by it's performance. The sensitivity works better than I thought for a wireless device. I was expecting something like the Wii functionality but this is much much better. No Force Feedback or shift paddles but for the money, this works great for us. In fact, my wife, who doesn't play racing games, can consistantly finish among the top 3 playing Forza4 (great game BTW). For myself, I can consistently finish higher place for any given map than I can with the controller. I'll be using this from ow on instead of the controller for any racing games.

This wheel was pretty cool when I bought it. The nice thing is you only need the wheel and nothing else to control the car. The game that I use with this is Forza 4, that game is a game that involves a learning experience. Because after a while when you get further in the game you would want to customize your cars the only problem with this wheel is there isn't a Joystick to help with the customization. But you could just switch back in forth controllers when customizing. Its really no big deal but that is the down part about this wheel. Over all its a great buy I haven't had any problems with it at all. If you looking into buying Forza 4 and want a wheel I recommend buying this one unless your really into racing games.

    Perfect for Forza 3 !

I wanted a wireless wheel for Forza 3 and didn't want it to be hard mounted or with pedals. This wheel is perfect for me. Playing a car racing game with a standard controller is clumsy and I've never been able to really compete against the Xbox cars very well until I got the Speed Wheel. I won my first race with it and many after that. My skills improved so much I could complete on all levels with it. The response with Froza 3 is perfect, just like driving a real car, but on another race game it was slow to respond, so I can't say its perfect, but if you have Forza 3 you won't be disapointed in this wheel. At $60 its well worth it !

Got it for $19.99 as the Deal of the Day item. It was a fantastic purchase!! The 1:1 control is spot on and really adds to the driving experience. I played it with Forza Horizon. I wouldn't have considered purchasing it if it's wasn't for the deal but after buying and trying it, I can say this is a really great wireless wheel. The build is solid and the controller is super responsive. Much better than my experience with the "Wii Wheel". I never had used a real feedback wheel but all I can say for the price, this is a really great upgrade to the regular controller for driving games. 5 stars.

I bought this wheel at a discount when I bought Forza 4. After using this for a while I realized i would already like to upgrade to a better wheel. Its ok for a controller. Like most, I dont like that there isnt any force feedback. Its a ok starter wheel. If you use a headset and would like to talk to friends in game, this wheel isnt going to do it. Yes, you will be able to listen. But, there isnt a connection for wired headsets. So... NO mics. The controller also lacks some simple functions like with the regular hand controller.

The look is what got me to buy this controller. However, not having a fixed pivot makes it really hard to control tight drifting turns. I find myself oversteering since my hands are floating in mid air. Kind of hard to gauge how much to turn and when to point the wheels back into the turn. Easy with a controller, very difficult with this. So, get it for the looks and to even the skill when playing for fun against someone. However, for career mode, use a controller.

Love it for Forza, but doesn't work with Cars 2

Bought this with XBox so that my 4 year old could play the Cars 2 game which I had also purchased. For whatever reason it is not compatible with that game. Works great with Forza 4, but really needed it so that my son had an easy controller to use with his favorite cartoon game. Wasn't a complete waste, my husband has been downstairs playing Forza with the steering wheel every day for 2 hours a day since we opened it on Christmas day.

was disapointed you dont fell the road bumps at all only when in bad wreck do you fell any force feed back at all ok for turns and is easer to handle cars but not for the price not 59.99 but 29.99 or 39.99 maybe all you should have to pay for it. lot of money for just racing games. Guess I'll keep it not as good as advertized. PS hope this helps some of you that are on a budget. Also hard on batterys cant use rechargeable batterys.

Good entry level wheel for the Xbox360

This is a great entry level wheel for those tired to driving using the left stick. Once you get used to holding a wheel in mid-air, you will be handling your car with better precision than the controller. The wheel works with most EA / Codemaster / Microsoft studio racing games. Example: Forza 4 or Grid. Does not work well with those released by Disney Interactive and Activision. Example: Pure or Cars 2.

No substitute for a racing wheel

It's a shame the older force feedback was discontinued. If you want this controller for an arcade style racing game it works well. Forza 3 is playable if you don't manually shift. Besides the d-pad and the 4 buttons shown, there is 1 trigger behind each of them. The controller only takes AA batteries. The rechargeable battery is not an option.

I've never played racing games with an actual wheel, so this was my first time trying something other than the normal controller. Playing Forza 4, at first I couldn't figure this thing out, but once I figured out that I needed to imagine a steering column attached and held it in an anchor position, it was awesome. Extremely accurate control.

    Awesome concept, terrible execution

This would be one of the coolest ideas for a controller, except the person who designed it apparently never played Xbox. Ultimately, this product is not good because the design does not include 2 of the shoulder buttons (which are required to navigate some of the Forza menus).

Got it for my 15 year old son. Tried it out with Forza 4 on Xbox 360. He loved it. It worked right out of the box, without any configuring. Got it on a Christmas sale, so it was a great value for the wheel. Much better than using the xbox controller. No negatives so far. Now if we could just find his Need For Speed disk!

I've tried this steering wheel out and in my opinion, it is good but not perfect. It's a shame that it doesn't work well with the game, Need For Speed: the Run. There's a review blog that goes more in detail. Here's the link: http://simplycriticall.com/2012/02/01/review-xbox-360-wireless-speed-wheel/
