Great accessory for a great price!

First, the price alone is fantastic! $20 for a battery saver is an awesome deal, rather than shelling out tons of money for batteries; especially if you play as much as I do (close to $20 a week in batteries). I bought 2 of these charge & play kits too use with both of my controllers so that when one goes down I can charge it while still playing with the other one, or if it happens in the middle of a game I can just attach it too the charger and keep kicking FPS n00b butt. I always keep the chargers hooked into my front USB ports, although I have noticed that wen attached too the rear USB ports they seem to charge faster for some reason. With Best Buy offering them now at $15 bucks, it's an even better deal than anywhere else, even a used specialty shop(you know who I'm talking about) or a bargain retailer. Contrary too some of the other reviews on here, it is extremely easy to use, they last quite a long time (i've used the same one for the past 3 years, and another one for a little over a year), I've never had to replace the batteries, never had a problem with them not charging, and never had problems with shorting. I also have 3 small children a dangerous situation for any gamer, and I keep all my gaming stuff put up and safe from dust, children's demented ideas with electronic devices, and from dogs trying too chew on them. I had also read review about people having a hard time understanding the instructions on how too properly charge the batteries and how too use it while the console is off, so I will briefly explain these "issues". First; in order too first use the charging kit, the battery comes already partially if not fully charged so go ahead and insert it into your controller and just play until the battery is fully depleted. Second; once the battery is FULLY DEAD, as in it won't even allow the controller to be turned on, connect the charging cable too your Xbox 360 FIRST then connect it too your controller. Third; wait until the indicator light turns RED indicating it is currently charging, then hold down the center "Xbox" button on the controller until a dialogue box pops up and asks you if you want too turn off your console, turn off only your connected controllers, or cancel and go back too the dashboard. Select the option too turn off your console (NOTE: DO NOT TURN OFF THE CONSOLE BY USING THE FRONT CONSOLE ON/OFF SENSOR BUTTON!) once your console is of set down your controller and wait for the rings to briefly light up and the chargers RED indicator light too come on indicating it is currently charging your controller WHILE the console is off. LEAVE THE CONTROLLER AND CONSOLE ALONE DURING THIS FIRST TIME CHARGE! With the console being off it allows the power supply to dedicate its power too one device instead of powering the entire console AND charging the controller which in my experience stimulates a quicker more complete charge. After the indicator light turns green to indicate it is through charging your controller first disconnect the controller from the device and leave the charging cable connected too your console at your discretion . It is better too use your controller until your battery is close too dying and then plug your controller into your charger and keep it plugged in until the indicator light turns green and then immediately unplug it from the charging cable. If you follow those simple steps, barring a defect in your charging kit, your batteries should last for a lot of game plays to come and make your purchase well worth it. However, like any rechargeable battery pack known too man, the batteries do degrade and hold less of a charge as time goes on but the speed at which it degrades is also determined by how well you treat your device and utilize it properly. I have no complaints about this fine Microsoft product, and cheers too Best Buy for making such an awesome inexpensive gaming accessory even less expensive.

    Nice addition to your 360

Xbox 360 seems to focus on the ease of use and wireless capabilities, which is good, but at times it can be a pain. During these times, I am glad that they have came up with a backup plan! + This little cord and battery makes gaming a dream, when it works that is. I have purchased a few of these already and two of them have been faulty. I don't know if it was just a fluke, or if they are just poorly created, but it has been kind of irritating. The one that I have that works, is awesome though. + I love being able to play without wires in my way, and I love that when you do have to be "wired", you are actively charging your controller back to full life! That is a really nice feature I think. + Not a plethora of things to touch on with this item, but it is very nice to have if you do a large amount of gaming and hate to waste all your video game buying money on batteries! Just be sure that it charges within your first thirty days of buying!

    Great Alternative

I have both a charging station and a play and charge kit. If you're batteries are dying and you don't have a spare the charging station is a great idea. However you will likely have to stop gaming with the charging station because you have to wait for the batteries to recharge. With the play and charge you can just plug the kit into the top of your controller and then into the USB ports on the Xbox 360. It works really well and the wire is pretty long so you can sit fairly far away still, even though you are now wired to the Xbox. If you're a gamer that doesn't want to be held back by dying batteries in your wireless controllers this is a great alternative and definitely worth the money. The only negative and this is a really small one, is that the controller becomes a little top heavy with the play and charge plugged into the top.

The product works great you can play without ever having to buy new batteries and you can remove the coord when even you'd like to work off of battery power. However there's many problems that can happen to this charger if certain things aren't done properly. 1. Turning your xbox off you must unplug this coord or the xbox will stay on and continue charging your controller along with overheating your xbox. 2. The coord must be unplug when battery life is full otherwise this could cause the coord to become unusable and you'll begin getting a flicker of red. There's other problems but as long as you make sure to always unplug this coord even when your not using it your coord should easily last for a very long time. Unfortunately I never unplugged my coord from the xbox so it only lasted 1 month.

I bought this for a friend after Best Buy staff told me it would work for what we needed. WRONG, it didn't work. Best Buy staff didn't know what they were talking about, again!! That happens quite a bit. Always take what Best Buy staff tells you with a grain of salt!! My friend ended up using it anyhow, he really didn't need it for what he ended up using it for but I figured by the time we pay for return stock fee: might as well let my friend keep it and get some use of it. It's a good product but it can't be used to control a wireless device on a computer. It only charges, you need a wireless device (hub) to have a xbox360 wireless controller work on a computer, can't buy this device instead, it won't work!! Even if Best Buy says it will: it won't.

I prefer this over the packs that you need to put batteries in. I just hate the hassle of needing to have backup batteries and then charging those. In the long run it may be cheaper to have the item to recharge batteries and use that for your controller. I like this because I dont need to worry. I play and when it gets low I just plug in the play and charge kit and dont worry about it. This item usually lasts 2-6 months if you are a hardcore gamer before you need to replace it. The price I think should be cheaper but I still like this item, saves you from any worry untill the item stops holding a charge and needs replaced. And for me so far all have lasted atleast a year, but I go long times without playing.

Don't get me wrong, the product when i first obtained it worked perfectly. i got 30 hours in from a full charge. After a few weeks of owning it my battery lasts for about 10 hours. the cord itself works great. I wish Microsoft had just the battery packs for sale instead of the off brand Rocketfish or NYKO brands. Microsoft seems to be making a lot of poorly made items and selling them for what they aren't really worth. my controller is 2 months old and the joysticks don't work. i have countless friends whose mics don't work.

This is a basic USB recharge connection for your Xbox 360 controllers. It does what it should, it recharges the controller battery at a descent speed, and it doesn't fall out easily like some others I've used. Some people will try to pick this item up thinking it will connect their controllers to their computers and allow control of their game play, but this product is not that type of connector, it CAN ONLY BE USED FOR RECHARGING. If you need to use a controller for games on your PC I would suggest the USB wireless connector for XBox 360 controllers to cut down on wire clutter and allow some sitting distance from your monitor.

The plug and play charger is great for anyone who enjoys playing games and not spending a fortune on batteries. While it takes a while to achieve a full charge, after the first charge there is really no problem using the controller. Once the controller starts to die, simply plug it up and keep on playing. One of my favorite features is that you can charge the controller while the console is off. Plug up the controller while the unit is on, turn off the controller, and then turn off the console using the power button on the front. The controller should remain charging and automatically shut off when full. It's amazing!

This battery only worked once and would not charge again after that. The only reason I bought this was beacause it was the ONLY black battery pack Best Buy carries, and I wanted the battery pack to match by black Elite controller. After it would not charge again, I did a web search and found out that this was a wide-spread issue with the Microsoft battery pack, kind of like the 'red ring of death' issue. I ordered a black Nyko Charge Station 360 directly from Nyko ($29.99) since Best But only carries the white version of that product; it works great. STAY AWAY from this one. Get the Nyko instead.

The Xbox controller is a hog on AA batteries. I thought that when I was buying this product I would be able to enjoy wireless gaming while only having to charge my controller once and a while. I was wrong. although it is good if you don;t mind being connected to the console with a wire, don't expect the battery pack to hold a charge even overnight. My battery pack was fully charged (indicator light was green) last night and was flat dead this morning (under 8 hours). don't buy this product if you expect it to be what it advertises. Very good if you don't mind being connected to console.

bought the rechargeable battery pack so i wouldn't have to buy a bazillion AA's.....good idea. BUT, it lasts around 4-5 hours. so when im in a serious mood for gaming.....im usually in the middle of the firefight of my life when the console tells me that i need to plug my controller in. so i just leave my controller plugged in all the time. the wire doesnt bother me. so its good for not having to pay a fortune in AA batteries, but the charge isnt as long as i thought it would be.

when i first bought this i love it, saved alot of money on Batteries. only better thing would be recarchage batteries, so very good product. as it get older as expected batter life gets less, but its not bad, gets to a point where you must charge it ever other use, but early it worked great. Def buy if you will use it alot. I will have to replace the charger unit, it just broke. I had it for about a year or 2 and i used it alot, not a premature death at all.

This is great! if I see my batteries running low, I can just plug this into the top of the controller for minimal time loss. Also, one who plays a lot may use many batteries. As for myself, I never used many batteries, but this is easier than making sure you have batteries and what not. You know you're covered, battery life wise. Only downside is that when plugged in to the charger, it interferes with the clearness in your microphone if you play online. Not a big deal, just sort of a nuisance for you and your friends to listen to whenever you speak.

It is easy to use and set up. But this is just another way Microsoft aims to make money on cheap products. Ps3 controller would last for days without a charge and no extra money. This accessory barely lasts more than 5 hours until it needs charging. Went through 2 that were faulty. Its poorly built in my opinion, yet the only option to not spend money on batteries. Since the new Xbox controller drains power so fast this item is practically useless. This product is for those who want a wired gaming experience. Its great if you don't mind that.

We have a charging station, but I needed one more charger, so I bought this, not quite realizing how versatile it is. You have the ability to go wired if you burn out the charge in the middle of a long session, or say if the kids haven't been putting the controllers on the chargers and just leaving them strewn about the living room. The cord is nice and long, so you don't have to crowd in to play, and it charges the controller while you are playing and completes the charge even with the xbox off.

after having this for a long time sense the elite came out I have to say this is a must have item! The plug and charge kit is awsome because you can hook up your controller to it right before you shut down your xbox and while its shutting down it will actually put the xbox in a lower power mode to charge the controller, and when its done it turns off automatically, good job microsoft great product, it is better then throwing away batteries and that makes it good for the enivorment!

The back battery container on one of my controllers had stopped working (interference with the connection) so I sought out the Play & Charge kit, as I've had one before and had used it frequently, and had good luck with it. Brought it home and it worked like a charm. I really like these also, because the controller will still work if I don't have a back cover on and no batteries in. Makes the controller more lightweight, also. Definitely 10/10 would recommend and buy again.

I bought this item to not waste money in buying batteries for my xbox 360 controller. When I plugged it in to charge the battery it looked like it was working. After a few hours I tried to use my controller wirelessly with the power pack and it was showing up dead. I plug the cord back on the controller and it starts to show that it is recharging again. I wait a day and do the same thing and the pack was not charged. Only works when cord is attached to controller.

This is a great item I received just at the same time I got my Xbox 360. I have used ever since. Actually I use all the time whenever I am playing a game the controller is always plugged in. I like the feel of a plugged in Xbox 360 controller. The battery life of a charged battery is normally around 4 to 5 hours. The design is cool and flawless as it takes power directly from the Xbox 360. i would say this item is a must have for all the heavy gamers out there.
