Card wasn't activated @ the store. I went back 2 the store I bought it from & they treated me like a criminal. They said the card didn't match the receipt. That's impossible since I bought the card the same day I bought an xbox1 console. There was an issue @ the register activating the card. The young brunette girl treid a few different cards & said something about the batch being bad. Finally she said this card was ok. I wonder if that's maybe y the receipt doesn't match the card since she had swiped several cards. When I went 2 customer service 2 get the card activated I was there 4 a long time cuz the lady left after I explained what I was there 4. She came back with some1 else who said the card doesn't match the receipt so they couldn't do anything. He basically said that I got the card some where else & was trying 2 get a free 1 from them. He also said the store doesn't sell the card I have, they only sell the green cards. So he lied 2 my face since I bought the card @ that store along with almost $800 of other xbox stuff. I wasn't asking 4 a new 1 just wanted ithe 1 I bought activated since I paid $60 for it. I spent almost $800 that day on an xbox1 & accessories. I wish I had gone 2 Walmart instead @ least the cashiers there know how 2 activate a card when I buy 1. Now I'm out $60 & had 2 go 2 walmart & buy another card for $60. That 1 was activated & worked with no problems. I'd like 2 know y I'm treated like I'm stealing or something when I was just trying 2 get an item I bought @ the Newington store 2 work like it's supposed 2 if the cashier swipes it 4 activation. I don't recommend any1 buy a card @ Best Buy that needs 2 b activated by a cashier cuz if the cashier doesn't do it right Best Buy won't honor it. Instead of admitting the cashier made a mistake they'll treat u like a criminal. I had a similar issue @ Walmart once with a phone card not being activated & when I went back & they activated it with no problems & they didn't make me feel like I was trying 2 get something 4 free. They just fixed the issue. I'm extremely disappointed with Best Buy. This is the 2nd issue I've had with this same store this year. A manager resolved an issue with bluetooth headsets 4 me this spring. But this time a manager basically called me a thief. That's insulting & very poor customer service. The card I bought looks just like the picture in this review.

Smart Choice for Xbox Live Users

One of the ways that Microsoft irritates both its customers and its potential customers is by charging a fee to use Xbox Live Gold. While it is frustrating--especially for those of us who are dipping into our income more than we should for something as unnecessary as video games--I do feel that Xbox Live is a terrific service. I would like to believe that the sales of Xbox Live memberships help to make sure that Xbox Live continues to live up to its high standards. While Microsoft is sure to snag lots of money from its customers by selling Xbox Live memberships through the Xbox Live Marketplace (and, subsequently, automatically renewing them when gamers don't necessarily intend to do so), it really pays for Xbox owners to check with major retailers for discounted Xbox Live membership cards. My vote is currently for buying these from Best Buy. Not only can you get the membership for a good deal less than you would pay through the Xbox Live Marketplace, but you can also get rewards points and free shipping to your home. The only downside is that, at the present time, it seems that the brick-and-mortar stores are no longer carrying these memberships for store pick-up. If you are without an Xbox Live Gold membership and you want to get a great bargain, you'll have to wait a week or so while the card ships to you from the warehouse.

    Prepaid Pros

To start off, I'd like to say that X-Box Live is amazing and worth every penny. Online gaming is incredibly fun and quite a good way to pass time. That aside, there are downsides to X-Box Live that can be avoided through prepaid cards. Number one, you always run the risk that unwarranted transactions will be made if your credit card information is stored on your X-Box 360 system. It may not happen all that often, but it's best to avoid it all together. The biggest reason to buy prepaid Xbox Live card is the renewal process that happens when you don't use one. If you order X-Box Live through your system, it'll renew every time your subscription runs out. This wouldn't be a problem except that it's not that easy to cancel. Instead of canceling through your system, you have to go through the hassle of actually calling X-Box Live support. Even then, depending on the representative you get, you may be hassled to keep your subscription because they really don't want you to cancel it. I'm guessing that's part of their job to convince you to keep it, but it still is frustrating to the person that is trying to cancel it.

An Xbox Live Gold subscription is all but required to enjoy having an Xbox One, but I never felt like it was something I was pressured into purchasing. On the flipside, I feel like I made an excellent investment, and the payoff is a steady stream of mostly quality (albeit lower-cost) games. The online multiplayer and party chat capabilities are fairly good, although I tend to spend more time with single-player games. If you are after the social experience, buy this. If you're a cheapskate and only buy games once their costs have dropped to gas station prices, buy this. The free game lineup will be worthwhile (you've already missed Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Rayman Legends, and Sunset Overdrive, and you can expect upcoming Red Dead Redemption, Batman: Arkham Knight, Forza Motorsport 5) as well as the ever incredible Deals with Gold. In short, get this. I would recommend shopping around to find it for about $40, though, unless you're really desperate for it.

I purchased an xbox live card as a gift, I found out that it was purchased by another gift giver so I brought it back to best buy to get something else. I was told by the customer service rep at best buy that they couldn't give a refund because "the money goes straight to Microsoft so you have to call them for the refund". I called Microsoft which told me that if I bought it through their website they could refund me with no problem, but since it was purchased through best buy, they would have to do it. I called best buy's 800 number to get a rep saying that it's the policy... however, nowhere on the receipt does it state that, but he said it's on the website... I didn't buy it from the website, I bought it in the store. I am extremely dis-satisfied with best buy and have had purchased #on "my best buy" rewards# nearly $1500 from them in the last 2 years... looks like I'll be not buying anymore from best buy.

I started a new relationship with Xbox starting with the recently launched Xbox One. I used to own PS3 and never owned either of PS Plus or Xbox Live memberships. I got this Xbox Live 12 month subscription FREE with my Xbox One bundle purchase during a promotion period. I am glad I did. The Xbox Live is a must for the games who play online a lot. I am not one of those. I like playing Campaigns more. But, the Xbox Live gives you FREE games (indirectly you actually paid for it) which I use. Disappointingly Microsoft's offering of free games like Worms Battlefield and Chariot is not impressive at all. And it will throw off the Xbox Live users like me who are not interested in playing Online multiplayer games. I hope Microsoft is taking a notice and they will do better by offering decent free games and be competitive with Playstation Plus subscription.

Overpriced but not worth having an xbox without

I've always thought this subscription was a little overpriced, but at least it is not required for usage of additional paid services as it used to be (like netflix and hulu+). They do give gold members some pretty descend discounts on digital game downloads, but the catch is that digital downloads get tied to your microsoft account and cannot be transferred so if you ever want to sell the system, you can't effectively sell the games with it....a big downside in getting good return out of it. Fortunately for them, its almost not worth having an xbox without the subscription if you actually play games so a little unavoidable to purchase. I am checking "yes" on would you recommend to a friend, however if there was a "mehh" option, I'd use that in a heartbeat.

I wented to buy two XBOX live gold memberships for my kids, and I chose best buy over every other vendor.... And nearly everyone including Wally Marts sells this same item. But, best buy has price matching for online comparison. While they wouldn't match the lowest Amazon price because it was a private seller, they did match someone else's online price which saved me some money. Oh, and I went right past other large electronics stores (such as one which rhymes with Dies) to go to best buy solely because of the better customer service at best buy. I knew I wouldn't be returning the gold memberships, but I do prefer interacting with best buy employees more than the other places. Super nice manager... Best price in town... What a deal.

Needed for all the extra features of your Xbox One

If you want to use Netflix, Amazon Video, or any other additional feature your new Xbox One offers, get ready to pay for Xbox Live! I understand if Microsoft wants to have people pay to play online games, but I think its ridiculous they require Xbox Live to use the other features you already have a subscription for. If it wasn't for the online playing I would not have Xbox Live. I already have an Apple TV, Roku Box & Blu-Ray player which I can access all of these features already. I'm sure many already know this, but if not now you do. $60 for a year works out to be $5 a month, so for online play this is not bad. Now I just wish MS would start releasing games for Xbox Live users on the Xbox One, like they do with the 360!

My membership lets me gamechat with friends even overseas and play online multiplayer, a key factor in games like Star Wars: Battlefront and Dark Souls III. The discounts are excellent, and the shop always has specials. And, of course, the free games! I've received a number of games that I would have purchased anyways (Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishment), been introduced to games like Styx: Master of Shadows and Zheros, which I never would have otherwise found, although I love them, and games like Lords of the Fallen and Borderlands (360) that I play and enjoy but never would've purchased.

If you enjoy playing online against people then it is absolutely mandatory to have a Gold account. You're not doing that without it. If you are a single player or couch buddy focused gamer then Gold isn't really all that necessary unless you want to take advantage of the "Free Games with Gold" titles released every month. Additionally, the Games with Gold titles that have released each month for the Xbox 360 have been far superior to the titles that have released on the Xbox One. So, if you just have an Xbox One and don't do much multiplayer online then Gold might not bee very valuable to you at this time. IMHO.

Yes, PSN gives it up for free, but the Xbox Live folks (XBL) make sure to give up some sweet games for free as well. For instance, around five weeks after its release, Microsoft released as a birthday gift to its owners (anniversary of the Xbox One) in the form of Sunset Overdrive. That's beside its regular freebies that it releases. Their Black Friday deals saved me a whole ton of money and they beat any deal on games like Titanfall, FIFA15, and Diablo by at least 15 bucks. Say what you will about XBL, but Microsoft is surely trying to treat its faithful followers with plenty of thanks.

well another year has gone by, and if you do not purchase a xbox live gold card, if your not a big game player and use xbox for other things, it is virtually useless unless you purchase the live gold card, if it werent for the grand kids needing it to play with their friends on line and stuff, I would not bother, for as much as I use it myself it would not be worth it, thank goodness if I search long enough I can find it on sale (usually on best buy.com) I see amazon had it on sale but had already purchased it at best buy .com. I think 59.99 is way to much for it. I will wait to get it on sale.

I stopped getting Xbox Live about six months ago due to the cost and the fact that I don't play games online typically, but you need it if you're going to own a Xbox One, plain and simple. Microsoft offers several free games a month and discounts on digital content that's only available for Xbox Live gold members and certain games like Destiny or Titanfall can only be played online. It's a shame to have to pay the $60 every year for something I'll hardly use but it's a necessary evil. Besides, there are plenty of deals for $40 or less around the holidays so keep an eye out for that.

It's the only way that a individual can use the Xbox gaming system, for a full year so you don't need to keep rebuying 3 month cards or 1 month cards, so to me it's completely worth it in that regard, just buy it one time and it's over with for a whole year. No worrying about it cutting out every couple months type of deal. Thus in overall conclusion not only is buying membership to play online needed but the 1 year way is the best way.

I always buy a prepaid Xbox Live gold card every year. When my Xbox live Gold account was about to expire I got a reminder on my Xbox and offered me a renewal for either $7.99 a month or $8.99 a month (I can't remember) I do remember that it came to round about $100.00 for the year. Yes, $100.00 My girlfriend (on my same Xbox) got a reminder for $5.99 a month (still not a deal.) She told me to wait and check Best Buy and a week later I bought 2 for $39.99 each (cheaper than what they offered me for 1) So I am glad I waited as this was most definitely the best deal.

I'be been using Xbox Live for quite some time and it has an unsurpassed level of polish in content, community, and interface. Vulgar and unpleasant players are able to downgrade and report. This keeps the community pretty high quality for the most part. Of course there are always bad apples, but they are easy to identify. The major complaint is that services such as Netlix are behind the pay wall requiring this subscription AND a subscription to Netflix. Makes no sense, especially when Netflix is included as a free app on Playstation Network. So that does erode the value.

Call me "old school" but I feel the price for this is a little too high. Allow me to clarify, MICROSOFT'S price is too high, this doesn't have anything to do with best buy. This gives you access to the online community on Xbox , it doesn't really give you much, if any extra content. I think Microsoft has PLENTY of user's on Xbox live now and could stand to drop the price of membership now, although it seems they prefer to keep raising the price. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy playing online with friends, I just think it's a little over priced for what you actually get.

This solid piece of plastic was by far the best purchase I've ever made. The minute I picked it up I knew it wasn't some cheap, this, poorly designed flat piece of plastic. I would recommend this to anyone if you're looking for quality plastic with numbers on it. Only downside was it was such well made plastic I couldn't fold it into a airplane in my attempt of world dominance. I assume if I bought more than one at a time the FBI and NSA would place me on some sort of watch list because of the pure quality of the plastic. Hence the four stars.
