Xbox attempt to One that rules all

I remember when consoles were simple.. plug in connections to TV, pop in game, load, play. Now-a-days, consoles have lost their singular identity and have amassed a multi-tasking identity. A one stop shop for all your audio/video needs, from games to music to movies. Xbox One, as its competitor, PS4 has finally found that balance. However, does that make it an easier means to access these forms of media? Not necessarily. For anyone under the age of 30 down to 10, the controls and the operating system are probably intuitive. However, if you are not a console gamer, or have inclination same, you might see the system as a hodge-podge of confusing menus not knowing up from down, left from right. The operating system is not as intuitive or simplified as the iPad, or even Win10 PC, so it will take some acclimating before you know how to do anything other than start whatever game is currently in the drive. The operating system and navigation therewith aside the games are absolutely breathtaking. As a PC gamer, I couldn't and probably wouldn't, but in this case couldn't, say that the games are more polished and prettier than what a gaming PC can render. However, there is nothing quite like playing games on a massive 80" HDTV that a PC couldn't deliver without sacrificing pixels to reduce to 1080p. Therefore, the immersion that the games offer is unique to consoles, and the processing power of these current gen consoles is simply leaps and bounds beyond their predecessor. The only gripe I have with these current consoles is that they have 1TB or 500GB hard drives, where practically 10TB are offered at reasonable cost now-a-days. Now, that may seem like an infinite amount of space, and it would be if you were using the system to store pictures. However, when each game is approximately 35gb, you are not looking at a lot of games that you can install on the hard drive space. Moreover, these games tend to have massive updates that depending upon your internet speed, unless it is Spaceballs, "Ludicrous Speed", you are looking at buying the game today, having your son excited to open it, and then downloading the game to play it for the next 24 hours. Aw, poo, as you watch your son's face go from gleaming to uninterested for your hard earned and spent 60 dollars only just to buy to wait to play. Regardless, once the wait is over, you will forgive yourself and Xbox for the wait as the games will very likely blow your mind. Definitely worth the buy, not 5 stars for the reasons stated herein, but a hard 4 stars being a tad short of perfection.

    Review from a Dad

I bought this bundle because it has the best value. If you are buying it for your kids, there some things to consider. 1) None of the games are ready to play immediately. You have to wait until it the physical disc downloads content onto the hard drive (which can take quite some time). Also, this doesn't mean that you won't need the discs to play those games. The physical disc is still required. 2) You will need internet access AND Xbox Live to download "Ori and the Blind Forest." A 2-day trial pass code is provided for you. 3) Don't expect the console to be as "user-friendly" as the original Xbox, or Wii U. I am not saying that I favor those consoles over the Xbox One. When I started up the Xbox One, it needed updates. When I popped in the game discs, it needed to download content before I could start playing. It took about 30-minutes before I could play a game with my son. 4) I like how you can customize what content can be played. This is a great feature for parents to limit the type of games that can be played, websites that can be viewed, movies that can be played. In my opinion, the user interface is not that user-friendly. You will have to be patient. Originally, I thought the Xbox One can't play Blu-ray disc. I was wrong. It supports it, but you will need internet access initially to download the support app. 3D Blu-ray is also supported. I don't own an Xbox 360, but knowing that backwards compatibility for some games is supported was a selling point for me over the PS4.

    Very Happy

I purchased the Xbox One (1TB) from best buy on November 10 2015. I am very pleased with how this system has performed. I had an Xbox 360 for around 8 years, and the Xbox One is a major step in the right direction for Microsoft. I would recommend this product to any teen or young adult who enjoys playing video games. I have logged several days on the Xbox One and I always look forward to playing it again. The Xbox One is: • Fast • Reliable • Extremely User Friendly • Simple Setup • Connection The system overall excels in most categories. The Xbox One is fast, reliable, and extremely user friendly. The system is windows based, so anybody who uses a windows computer could practically navigate the system without any prior Xbox experience. Another feature I found most appealing is how simple the setup is. There are two cords, a power cord and an HDMI cable to the TV. As somebody who has used gaming systems for several years, one of the things I am most annoyed by is when a system has cords everywhere; it is a hassle to transport, and looks awful when plugged in. That is why I am extremely pleased with two cords. There is only one issue I have come across while playing the Xbox One. I play a lot of online games that requires constant high speed internet connection. I have noticed that I occasionally have a very hard time connecting to the internet. My roommates, who also play the Xbox One, seem to not have this issue however. It only happens on rare occasions and it is possible that it is not solely the fault of the Xbox. In total, I am a very happy customer and I do not have any buyer’s remorse.

Great Deal, Wide Variety of Games

If you get an XBox 1, definitely get a 1TB hard drive unless you plan on getting an external HD too. I got this bundle and a few other games and I've already filled up half the hard drive. This bundle gives you a shooter game, a side-scrolling platformer, and several older rare games that are suited for a wide variety of family members. Banjo Kazooie, Viva Pinata, Jet Force Gemini, and Perfect Dark are all games I played years ago, and worth me getting Rare Replay themselves. The downside to the bundle is that the games are not "main stream". Even the Gears of War game that's included is the remake of the 1st game. Still great if you like violent shooters, but not one of the popular games at the moment. If you're wanting Fallout or Halo, and you have no family with interest in Rare Replay or Ori, you're probably better off getting a bundle that includes one of those games instead. One other (easily resolved) issue we had with this bundle was a sticky "A" button on the controller that came with it. It seems to be a common issue with certain controllers at the moment, and I don't blame this bundle specifically. My wife found a video on YouTube about how to clean the button and fix the issue, and although it took a few applications, it worked great. No problems since. So I give 4 out of 5 stars for the 1TB HD, current value, and variety, but not the last star due to it lacking a popular game that will help maintain its value, and the minor controller issue.

It seems we were forced into upgrading from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One, since alot of the new games are only being made for the One. With that in mind we went ahead and purchased the Xbox One 1Tb, and saved about $110 by buying at Best Buy. We received a $50 Best Buy gift card, and a free Xbox One game of our choice ($60 value). We were able to choose the new COD Black Ops 3 as our free game, and that's not to mention that the Xbox One 1Tb we purchased was a bundle that included Gears of War, Ori, and 30 Rare Play minigames! My only complaint so far, is the One wants you to download every game you play first. This is annoying because it takes time, and you have to keep up with how much space you have or don't have on your hard drive. However, from what everyone says this is better in the long run since you don't have to worry about scratched discs, skipping, and other disc related issues.

Great System Great Bestbuy / Bad Microsoft Support

Great gaming/entertainment system. BestBuy support was awesome. Microsoft support for defective items was poor. The "Y" button on the controller did not work & the Gears of War disc bundled with the system did not work. I called Microsoft Customer Service, they agreed to replace the controller at "no cost" to me. I got off the phone & they sent me an confirmation email that said I needed to send them the broken controller (postage at my cost) and then 10 to 14 days after they receive they would ship a replacement. That blew me away. Apple would have sent a replacement overnight with a postage paid return box for the broken item. I wouldn't have been able to us the brand new Christmas present for 3 weeks unless I purchased another controller! A few days later I learned the Gears of War disc problem. I called Microsoft customer service. They tried may "fixes" (settings & reboots), said this was a common problem, but couldn't remedy it. I suggested they send me a code to download the game from their online store, but they said they couldn't do that. They told me to return it to BestBuy. I was blown away... Return an entire bundled system. Well I decided to ignore Microsoft & went to BestBuy. They immediately remedied the broken joystick & defective disc with replacements..... BestBuy is great! Thank you.

    Terrific Xbox Bundle

If you're going to upgrade to the Xbox One, I feel that this is the bundle to get. The package offers a lot of versatility, and you get three games in the box. The 1 TB size hard drive is great and necessary when you consider that you'll need to install every game that you want to play. You'll need the extra space pretty quickly, and I would be frustrated if I had the 500 MB hard drive. The three included games are enjoyable and give you a lot to play right out of the box: - Gears of War Ultimate Edition is an amazing remake of the original with crisp graphics, updated controls, and great campaign, and a good online community. - Ori and the Blind Forest is a terrific platforming adventure that will remind you of the games or your youth, but it also shows off the gorgeous graphics that the Xbox One can put out. - Rare Replay is the weakest game that's included, but you should get some enjoyment out of playing some old school games. My only complaint is that there aren't two controllers in the box, but that's pretty standard for consoles these days. Overall, it's a terrific bundle where you get enough space for game storage and a lot of gameplay out of the box to get you started with a new system.

Great Bundle, Lots of Free Games, but No Headset

In terms of the 1TB console bundles, this is definitely one of the best deals out there. (Seriously, don't even bother with the 500GB consoles. Xbox One games eat up 50 - 60GB each and you already lose about 150GB from all the required content on the hard drive.) I only got the Xbox One because all of the new games I want to play are on them. Graphics and performance wise, it's only a slight improvement over the 360, not nearly as drastic as the improvements from Xbox to Xbox 360 (I do have a 720p 32" TV, so perhaps I'm not seeing the full potential of this system yet.) The Rare Replay is a great deal and will provide plenty of cool games to play. The new interface will take a little getting used to, but has a somewhat familiar feel to it. My only major gripe is the lack of a mic and headset. These newer consoles are all but forcing you to play online (Halo 5 co-op, anybody?), so a mic and headset should come just as standard as a controller.

I was debating between the PS4 and Xbox One and this one wn out. The biggest thing for me is the feel of the controller. The exclusives to Xbox and the fact that Microsoft brought Xbox 360 compatibility helped sell me on this console. Between the models of Xbox One I chose this because I was getting 3 games packed in with it (Gears of War Ultimate/Rare Replay are a physical copy and Ori is a download). If you play Gears of Wars Ultimate, literally just start the game, you receive digital copies of all the Gears of War games (Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and Gears of War Judgement). The codes were sent to my gamertag inbox. I am unsure of how long that promotion is going on for though. So I got 7 games with this console. The Xbox One and PS4 require that the games be installed on the console before play. The games can be quite large and with this console having a 1TB HDD makes it the perfect bundle. Also, the latest update Microsoft added the ability to add an external HDD (must be USB 3.0) up to 2TB.

I was an Xbox 360 owner and was feeling pretty content. I play games on PC too, so this was holding me over on the next gen gaming. However we use our Xbox for streaming shows and there are certain games I prefer on console. I took advantage of a trade-in offer towards the Xbox One. I was also swayed by the potential of the backwards compatibility with my 360 games. It helped to know that my old games would potentially not be useless. My biggest surprise was just in the speed and functionality of the user interface. It is soo nice to have multiple "apps" open and quickly switch between them. I can quickly switch from a game to hulu in seconds. On my 360 it would take a minute or two to switch from one to the other. The graphical upgrades are nice too. I know I still have not taken advantage of all the features, but so far I am happy I made the upgrade.

    Xbox One 1TB Holiday Bundle

The Xbox One 1TB Holiday Bundle, note that this bundle, comes with physical disks and redemption code card for the games included in this bundle. As the description may not note, the physical disks in this bundle are for Gears of War Ultimate Edition (with Civilian Anya Multiplayer DLC character) and Rare Replay with Ori being the redemption code card to download the full game. Everything else is pretty much standard of what comes in these bundles, but note, Microsoft did NOT include a basic microphone in this bundle so one will need to be purchased. Though most will wind up ditching the basic microphone for something better.

This is really a great option if you don't want the elite console bundle which comes with the elite controller but no games for the same price. You're still getting the 1TB hard drive so if this is your first xbox you'll be able to keep it longer than a 500GB console before you feel the itch to up grade due to memory space. The Holiday Bundle also comes with three games Gears of War,something Mom and Dad or a young adult might enjoy ,Ori which seems to be appropriate for all ages, and the the last is Rare Replay which is thirty of your classic games! That's a lot of stick time before you'll need to buy more games. We have two Elites and one HB consoles in our house and I can tell you that the dual processor of the Elite is supposed to make the load times faster and perhaps it does but if so it's by such a small amount that it's unnoticeable.

Best gaming system I have ever owned!

    Posted

I've owned multiple gaming systems before in the past, but the only two I have ever purchased myself were the ps3 and the xbox one. The xbox one is a true gaming and multimedia device. I have owned this system for a couple of months now and in my honest opinion it is great. There are problems with the xbox one. Sometimes the xbox live crashes, apps don't work, or things take a minute to load. It still is a great device it plays games and blurays flawlessly which is the whole point of the system. I like the feel of the controller better than the ps4 controller (my brother has a ps4) because it's gotta more ergonomically in my hand and is better for longer gaming sessions. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase or the ease I had ordering from best buy online and pick-up. Will definitely order from this company in the future.

The Positives: 1 TB storage and 3 games for the price is nice. The negatives: Does not come with rechargeable battery pack for controller. Does not come with headset for online gaming communication. Rare reply so far will not work. It says it needs an update and then says "error updating, go online to find out the problem." Games on disc have to install, which takes a long time. After installing, you STILL NEED THE DISC IN TO PLAY. This is stupid. Start up and game loading (in energy saving mode) seems to take longer than the xbox 360. The Blu-ray player is an app that so far does not sync up audio and video correctly. There is a slight audio delay so in movies peoples' mouths move wrong. Overall, this has been a frustrating purchase so far.

Love my new Xbox One and the exclusivity of games. I'm a casual gamer, i wanted the multimedia features that the Xbox One has, That was a big plus in my decision of getting this from a PS4. I know all the hypes about PS4 for the graphics and being a better gaming console, but like I said that was not all the I wanted. I can control my FIOS box, my TV, everything with it. BTW you will need a Kinect to be able to do all of that, which I also got and with your voice. In terms og gaming, to me is perfect, I love it. like I said some exclusive, Tomb raider, Forza, Titanfall, Halo and even and most great game are also in Xbox One...ex:COD. Excellent Buy with this bundle that was the 1TB, which has more space and it's still easy to upgrade.

Overall, it's good. Of course, it has great graphics and has great media features. For older kids, yes. Younger kids, probably not so much. If you are not tech-savvy, be prepared for the set-up to take forever. My recommendation, get a router that can handle these updates and downloads, or a friend or family member who is tech- savvy and can set this up quickly for you. You have to update and download everything, even the game discs, so it can take a while. Don't expect to play right away. Also, be prepared to spend more money. In addition to the $400+ that you spend on the system, games, downloaded games, accessories, etc. Microsoft charges for every little thing, Xbox live, gamer tag changes, kids profiles, amongst other things.

My wife and I debated buying one for several months, and she finally got it for us for Christmas. Does everything you could expect. Glad they added the blu-ray upgrade from a 360, as well as the cable pass-through. Definitely have to be a gamer to justify the expense though, as you have to pay for an Xbox live subscription in addition to the cost of the hardware/software to access most game content. It's also a bit limited as a media platform and is redundant as such if you have an Apple TV or Roku, or even a smart TV. Only other thing I could think to improve would be to offer a version that ditches the disc drive altogether and is easily portable, as most (all?) games are available as DLC.

My children worked all summer and up until Christmas in order to get their very own Xbox One's. My wife and I were so proud of them that we took care of getting them and put their money into savings accounts. My children went on on about what it could do over the Xbox 360's they already had. And I couldn't see what was so great to have to get a new system having just purchasing the 360's the Christmas before. But as I have watched my children playing games I can see so many upgrades and features not present on the 360's. Definitely a good reason to upgrade too many features to possibly list. Sometimes you find your children know something better than you do and we all learn something. Riley

I got this as a gift. I'm a moderate gamer and have two XBox 360s in the house. It solidified my whole "Buy 4 XBox Live Memberships" every year. Everyone has their own login and it plays so nicely with my NAS Drive, Media Center PC, Macs, and everything else. It's now the center of a multi-room digital entertainment system. Microsoft did a great job with this box! As soon as the TV tuner stick can record and be the center of my whole home media system, I'll give it another two stars.

I've had an Xbox since the original. I was excited when the One came out but decided to wait for various reasons, the hefty price being chief among them. When Rise of the Tomb raider and Fallout 4 were coming out I decided it was finally time. I wasn't disappointed. I prefer this version with the larger hard drive. The included games didn't matter too much, I got this one and my fiancé got the Tom Raider edition and we share games. I'm not a big fan of the installation of every game, the main reason that I didn't give 5 stars. I find this one to be more user friendly than the 360 though. It really is an all in one entertainment unit.
