Didn't Work Out of the Box

I made the mistake of expecting a product to work out of the box...on Christmas. So, instead of gifting my children w/ an X Box One on Christmas, and a half dozen games, they are all scratched off until I fight the after-Christmas return nightmare to get a working X Box. Be aware, this product is a useless brick until it connects to the internet the first time you use it. If for some reason, yours doesn't connect, you cannot even do offline things. The Xbox will do nothing until it connects to internet. Mine appears to have a faulty network card as it can see my wifi signal, just won't connect. And yes, w/ plenty of time of it not working on Christmas day, you can bet I re-entered my password a dozen times, and watched as every other wifi device in the house continued to function perfectly. I even checked my router settings to make sure nothing was set to be pre-screened out. Nope, wide open. Just a bad network card. Poor design that the XBox doesn't offer option to skip internet connection and allow me to play any of the half dozen games I have for offline play. My kids will likely never even use the online play. I was buying this as an add-on to the Wii -U we have, which never was this much trouble. At this point, I am thinking that returning it for a PS4 may be the way to go, except I foolishly sunk money in some games, which would all have to be returned as well. I can't recommend anyone buy this.

Wanted to up grade my 360 to the One S What a mistake that turned out to be.First thing it has to do is update then when I put in Halo 5 it had to down load that.I played level one and the next day turned on the system and put in Halo 5 again. It would not load because I was off line.Turned out the game had to update and there went more of my data.I had also tried playing an old 360 game that was backward compatible World at War.Had to down load and that ate up several Gigs of data.I burned up 14 Gigs of data just trying to get a few games set up.My old 360 was not even hooked up to the internet.I just bought the games and played them.Thats not how this system works. It is a update down load Pig.Even if I had unlimited data I bought it to play games not to set and watch the percentage complete box. Also I throwed $30.00 away on a 4K movie it is suppose to play. But would not except my 4K Sony TV said it was not compatible.I guess my gaming days are done because the Geeks said the PS4 is the same way.Do not understand all the updates and downloads. The graphics are not one bit better then a 360 or PS3 that I also own.Im now locked out of any new released games that was the reason for the upgrade. What a racket it has turned into.

Bad Microsoft Support, can't play minecraft

I started using the Xbox One S. Seemed nice enough. I downloaded the Minecraft software and played it offline for a month, then all of a sudden, it wanted to verify my account. It had an old phone number that it wanted to send the verification code to. The defunct phone number was not in the Microsoft account I used. My guess is that they got it from my daughter's credit card I used to pay the 50 cents for the kids account. Anyway, I have spent 2 months and probably 30 hours doing online chat and on the phone with Microsoft to try to play my minecraft game that came with the Xbox. They couldn't figure out where the defunct phone number came from and would NOT give me access to play minecraft. They told me to delete my accounts, reset my box and start over. I did that. Now they say they will only grant me access to the accounts I removed. All this for an inexpensive minecraft game. Microsoft support is a mess. I don't suggest buying this product. BTW, I have an MS in Computer Science, teach CS at a university, and manage a software development group. I am no computer slouch. Good luck if you buy this product. I wouldn't buy it again.

It turns on... and makes noise

Santa delivered this and a few games for the family this Christmas morning. Everyone was pretty excited. It was immediately unboxed and hooked up to the tv. Unfortunately, the excitement faded quickly. When it is powered on it makes an awful noise that resembles something stuck into the fan blades. A quick google search reveals that fan noise is a common issue. As I am not going to crack open a brand new unit to replace the fan as suggested on multiple sites, back in the box it goes. Now, I get to return to the store and fight the crowds on the day after Christmas to hopefully exchange it for a new one. I'll update this review once we get to actually play it. As of now, pretty dissapointed

    Operational problems

We experienced consistent problems operating this console right off the bat. Each game we tried uploading to the unit either stalled or took an exceedingly long time to process. The reason we believe the console was faulty was that the games ranged from new to used, and were all from different suppliers and manufacturers, so the only constant was the console. After fruitless attempts at troubleshooting, we ended up returning it. It could be that the particular console we were sold was bad, so we don't necessarily want to discourage anyone from buying it. But at the very least, keep your receipt handy for a while.

Bought this item for our youth at our Church, but don't wanna use my home microsoft ID and you can't access the game without it. Trying to contact geek squad to help with a setting up an ID for Church use and not personal use (don't want everyone having access to my ID) sad we've had for almost a month and can't use. I'm the son by the way, my dad is 86, who would know about all this ID stuff at his age? People just wanna plug and play like the good ol days! This is drama with all these sign in stuff! Ugh

My son picked it because it had minecraft on the box...but he thought it was like the ps4....NOT! You cannot play online if u dont buy their membership which is like 100bucks more...n its stupid! Controls still use batteries which is also stupid! Microsoft's only interest is in how to make more money not in making good produts for their customers. Never again will i buy! I Should of just gone with a ps4 or even the new Nintendo switch would have been better than this piece of ----!

I guess they think everyone who buys an xBox knows all about it. My Best Buy salesman assured me this product would play CDs and DVDs as well as play games. Well, maybe ---- but it's not intuitive if it does at all. It might help if there were detailed instructions included or on the Web. BTW, an after-sale web search revealed all kinds of problems getting an xBox to play CDs and DVDs.

    terrible!

This product is absolutely horrible. Microsoft customer service is absolutely horrible. Games take a day to download even with the disc. Kinect is not compatible with Xbox One S, you need to buy a SEPERATE adapter which alone is $50. Interface is prehistoric looking, everything is overpriced, machine breaks and overheats easily. Please for your sake go with a PS4

I now know about the audio lip sync lag which is all over the Internet. The whole point of me buying a new 65" 4K TV, new Yamaha receiver and X Box 1 S was so I could watch movies in 4K. Now with this audio lag, I can't do anything. Thanks Microsoft for wasting my money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought it because the one that I've had for 2 years finally gave out and it would cost more to fix it then to get a new one with some of the new features. I didn't really want the Minecraft game but that was the only one you had left in stock so I bought it and I played it a few times. I would recommend it highly.

If I had known this was a Microsoft propduct, I would have not paid a penny for it. I spend five hours on the phone trying to get my grandson put on my account - the Microsoft people couldn't figure it out either! Update - the controller broke 5 minutes ago. I have to go buy another one now. This is why I'm a Mac!!

I'm pretty good with technology but the set up on this was so time consuming I returned it. Wiring is easy but the rest including accounts, other users, etc. was horrible. When i was returning it there was some one at the countet also returning theirs. Not a best buy issue just a Microsoft one. Very disappointed!!!

The Xbox one was awful it kept freezing many times and It required to many safety procedures that drives my crazy. And the games needed passwords to get in and that would just slow things done, and the xbox would only let one controller on the thing, bottom line buy a PS4 not a Xbox!

Tried two different systems because it wouldn't acknowledge my router. After being unable to get thru to Microsoft for hours and no one at Best Buy knew the answer I found out the system didn't work with my router. I bought a Sony 4K player instead.

Spent 2 hours trying to set this up on Christmas and the Xbox just doesn't get any power. Back to Best Buy to exchange it for one that works. Xbox One still works fine so might give up on 4K for now if it's too much of a headache.
