I own Dualshock 4, Dualshock 3, Xbox 360, and previous iteration Xbox One controllers for use on my PC. The Dualshock 4 and old Xbox One controllers previously competed for my favorite depending on the particular game's compatibility, the usefulness of the DS4's touchpad, and the game's use of the shoulder buttons. I quite liked the previous version of the Xbox One controller with the minor exception that the handholds creaked a little when squeezed and the major exception of the extremely shallow bumpers that could only be activated on the outer edges and could only be comfortably be used for a a single press. This new version has neither of these problems. I was able to fix the former problem with electrical tape inside the handles but this version feels rock solid without alteration (this is possibly just a matter of luck in build quality). The satisfyingly clicky response of all the buttons is maintained (maybe even improved for the face buttons, but likely that's just because these are newer) and the shoulder buttons now feel like I imagine they always should have. Their tactile response is almost identical but they depress ever so slightly more to make holding them down more comfortable, and, most importantly, they can now be depressed equally well at any point on the shoulder buttons.I cannot comment on the other new features. In essence, the best controller's most noticeable and, in my opinion, only significant shortcoming has been fixed.

The X1 controller is, without a doubt, a new standard in the xbox's line-up of controllers. I have bought this one from Best buy and it's in my home, ready to be played with the xbox one, so this review is a summary of using the controller from all of the events that I have attended (xbox one tours, microsoft store xbox one events, e3, gamescom, etc.) so I have had a fairly lengthy time using the controller. The ergonomics are simply brilliant as the controller fits snugly in your hand and it is a bit smaller and tighter so all the buttons are more easily reachable. One of the best things about the new controller is the impulse triggers feature. Oh, man. These things are just great. They said that they integrated a whole bunch of tiny rumble parts so that when you shoot a weapon, drive a car, run in a game, etc.- whatever you do in a game will match the action to the rumble feedback for more realism. I tried this out with forza and man, this is a world of difference. This feature alone would warrant this controller 5 stars, but the improved grip on the thumbsticks, the more fluid trigger-to-button layout, and the removal of the battery pack bulge on the back add even more value to this controller.

I got my new console and had to go on google to look at images because I did not realize there is a small button to sync new controller that does not come in actual xbox one box. Once I got that figured it out it has been incredible. The length of these controllers is incredible. I have the console downstairs but stream it to my windows 10 laptop upstairs. Then I have hdmi from laptop to tv. I use controller towards TV. Honestly cannot tell difference if console was in room. I just don't get windows forcing people to buy special adapter to play on computer when it clearly is strong enough to work across rooms. It would be nice if windows 10 could recognize it as well without the additional adapter. Long story short, Best Buy is amazing. Used to be a big Amazon fan...NO MORE!!! Best Buy has won my business for life. Great accessory. Def. recommend. I just wish the console came with 6 cd changer because of forcing one to use disc after installation. All in all, super happy with purchase. I bought controller with my xbox one console.

Pros: -Controller feels even more solidly built than the 360 controller -If you have a xbox one kinect, it can auto-pair with your xbox one -Triggers have feedback in some games (mainly in Forza, but it's implemented well- you can feel the car lose traction or tires spinning) -Comfortable to hold -Battery compartment is now flush in the back and doesn't stick out like the 360 controller Cons: -Still uses disposable batteries unless you buy the plug and charge kit or buy your own rechargeable batteries -You need an adapter to use your own 3.5mm headset for chat/audio (I personally prefer this to software based adjustment of volume, but worth mentioning) -Bumper buttons can feel a little hard to press (this is addressed in the updated version w/ 3.5 mm jack) -To update the controller, you need to physically connect it to the console via USB

    Lost ergonomics

XBO controllers lost the palm swell, finger notch, and seamless contours of the XB360 controllers. This translates into reduced playing time because of hand and wrist fatigue. The XBO controller is also plagued with sharp painful edges, especially when adding the chat pad. This all culminates into a bulky-feeling, awkward controller that abandons the comfort of its predicessor. On the up side, both mushroom joysticks have had a finely textured pattern crafted around their edges improving responsiveness and sensitivity when playing first person shooters. Hope that Microsoft comes out with a redo as currently, this is our only choice for XBO.

It's a controller. Anyone that's used a Microsoft peripheral knows that they do a really good job on them more often than not, and this is certainly no exception. Having large hands, I like the way the controller feels when I hold it, and by and large, the buttons are no issue. The New thumb sticks are fantastic. The haptic feedback (the triggers vibrate) is a little jarring at first, but you get used to it pretty quick. Especially nice is that the battery life is great, assuming you are using quality disposables or the Play-and-Charge kit (After 20 hours of play time in Halo 5 I only had to charge it once). Only real down side is actually the shape of the triggers and shoulder buttons. There's a very smooth transition between them, which is both a gift and a curse. Let's just say there have been a few friendly-grenade casualties.

Great controller when it is functioning like it is supposed to. Durable, too. I've dropped it many times, and it still does everything it is supposed to...except the D-Pad stopped working at two out of the four points. I don't know if that is from one of the many drops, or just a regular issue. It is one year since I've purchased this and it is kind of frustrating because it isn't something simple like a TV remote. I know it is not a toy. I understand it is a delicate piece of equipment. I just hate that something fails after less than a year of use yet costs $60.

The original Xbox one controllers, the one that came with my first gen 500gb Xbox one and the 2 camo ones I bought, are complete trash. They all have screwed up joysticks and I was super upset , still am. My friend bought the 1tb system and when I used they're controller (this one I am reviewing) I instantly noticed a heavier and much better quality controller so I had to get one (mostly cuz the 3 sucky ones I had you can't play competitively with or even scroll menus as the sticks would get stuck to a side). So I got this nice new controller and haven't looked back. IMO this is how they should've been originally. Heck the 360 controllers were better than the first gen Xbox one controllers.

This is the same Microsoft controller that comes with any new Xbox One system. This is a perfect replacement for a worn out controller, and unlike the 30-day warranty that comes on the pack-in controller, these come with a full one-year warranty. Even better, grab the Geek Squad 2-year warranty on this and for a few dollars more you'll receive a replacement from Best Buy if your controller should stop working in that 2-year timespan. Wait for one of the frequent sales on this item, combine it with the 2-year Geek Squad Warranty, and you'll be gaming on secure in the knowledge that you not only have the best quality controller for the Xbox One, but a replacement if need be for the next 2 years.

Exc Upgrade, Plus 3.5mm headphone jack!

Bought this to replace an older controller (that didn't have a 3.5 mm headphone jack and) which had developed right-joystick drift. Very happy with this upgrade. One issue....the plastic edges on the side of the controller are sharp on the one purchased and I can feel it when handing the controller. I checked the other two older controllers that I have and there is no sharpness to the edges of the grip which sit against the palm of my hand near the base of my thumb. The sharpness is truly evident when running my fingers along the plastics edge and is a little bothersome. Other than that, I couldn't ask for a better quality performing stock controller. :)

    Good Controller, Weak Feedback.

The controller works as expected. The design is a definite improvement over the 360 controller. However, I noticed that the vibration feedback from this controllers, was not only weaker, but it made a whirling noise that was a bit high pitched. The D-Pad is much better than the 360, however it makes a loud clicking sound when you press on it. I know that a lot of people may not notice these cons, but I am comparing this controller with the 360 controller. I wish the D-Pad felt as good as the PS controller, and was just as silent. I guess they put in a weaker rumble to save on battery consumption, but they should have designed it so that you couldn't hear the noise it makes when it spins.

Love the price match guarantee! Working perfectly so far. Easy grasp of all buttons just wish they would last longer lol Last one worked for less than a year. Even though I bought extended warranty, I won't use it bcs since it's part of a bundle package I would have to return altogether and get all new but would have to pay another $90 to insure it all again, and would lose all I got in the system's memory ;( would be a great deal if there was something wrong with the xbox one and headset too, but not the case here.... read the small print b4 buying extended warranty.... Buying a new controller it's cheaper than buying warranty again... Not liking this extended warranty too much

As an owner of both the original and the S version this is my personal preference. The S controller feels a little bit better because of the grip on the handles and the weight makes it feel a little more sturdy. Outside of that this is the better pick. I would pick the this for the battery life alone, the S controller kills batteries I have no idea why and its kind of annoying.Last this responds much better as you sometimes have to press the guide button a few times on the S controller, and its probaly the cheaper option. Unless you plan on using it to play on the computer or just want another color I say this is the pick

Although this controller is an improvement over the original XB1 controller, it's still of low quality. Ask any gamer what controller was better, Xbox controllers, or XB1 controllers and you'll hear that the Xbox controllers were stronger and longer lasting. This controller serves its function, but I know I'll need another one sooner than later. It's as if Microsoft knows you'll always play, so why not make some extra coin making a subpar controller, that everyone will have to buy again. I'm a big Microsoft fan, but decisions like this upsets me, especially since I come back for more. I'm starting to reach my limit.

This review has nothing to do with my purchase but more about the need to replace a controller that is a year old. I originally bought two controllers for my Xbox one each controller had an issue where the controller would drift up during play. After trying to fix it several times I finally chose to replace it. In comparison I have two controllers for my PlayStation four that are original and are working fine without any issues. It seems that the issue comes from flawed manufacturing. Hopefully Xbox will correct the issue with manufacturing so consumers don't have to waste their money to replace a controller.

this controller is one of the reason why i choose xbox one over it's competitor. the xbox one controller size is awesome, not too big or small according to my hand. the new bumper (lb and rb) is just amazing, it doesn't sounds like it would break in any second when i pressed it. this is the greatest feature this controller can offer. the 3.5mm jack for me is useless. i can't control the volume of my headset/earphone like i did before, using my stereo headset adapter. in fact i still using my stereo headset adapter even though the controller has a 3.5mm jack. the rest is the same with the previous version.

This is a great controller obviously for the Xbox one. I played on a windows 10 with the console downstairs and streamed the games to the pc and used a hdmi to connect to big screen. From this controller alone I could turn on console and thus initiate the entire process. Also this controller has such long range that it worked flawlessly to the xbox downstairs. The controller itself was always connected to console not the pc and still worked as if I was 3 ft away, like no difference. Also a huge plus I think it will eventually work with Amazon fire tv.

Purchased a few extra Xbox One controllers to ensure plenty for the family. They are well made and pretty straight forward to use. They feel good in ones hands as well. I am not familiar with previous incarnations of this controller, but it feels more comfortable to hold than the Wii remotes, even considering the obvious use differences. I can say they feel better then the Playstation controllers which I have never been fond of. I cannot, however, comment on the speed or accuracy of this controller over the Playstation one. For me, it does what it should very well.

The standard Xbox controller does the job for the regular priced controllers. Nothing much to comment about on that part. It works, and its a total improvement over the Xbox 360 controller. However, if you have the extra few dollars, I would suggest getting one of the special edition controllers like the Lunar White or any of the COD/Forza 6/Halo and such since some of them have a grip on the back and are nicer looking for only a few more dollars. However, if you gotta go standard, you can't go wrong either. The black matches the console and it's a solid buy.
