Probably not for the hardcore gamer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found this game to be completely satisfying. There are plenty of challenges but it's not ridiculously challenging. For the hardcore, it may be too easy, but for me, it was just right. It's not overdone with the story at all. I played this for hours with no frustation. It's just fun. If you've played Assassin's Creed, the game mechanics here will be just about the same. Running around killing Uruks and/or dominating them was probably the best part for me. I am a fan of the LOTR universe and I enjoy (onscreen) killing things, so there is that.

Fun Game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying this is a solid, fun game. If you are considering it, you probably won't be disappointed. But while everyone and their grandmother seems to love the game, I think the game shines more like aluminum than silver. PROS * Combat is fun * Not too long or short * Good balance between stealth, combat and ranged fighting * Planning your kills according to the enemies' weaknesses * Plans going awry when some other captain/war-chief (or 3) interrupts you current battle, requiring you to stay on your toes CONS * Nemesis system is forgettable * Too easy * Finding artifacts is also too easy * Most captains/war-chiefs can easily be killed with stealth, or with the special ability that allows unlimited combat finishers * Sometimes I was defeated by the controls * After finding dead bodies, uruks will stop hunting you in about a minute Ok, the nemesis system. Some people love that you keep fighting the same uruks over and over, but I don't get why. I didn't even notice I was fighting the same ones because they are all mostly interchangeable. I only cared about the weaknesses of my targets. Is the little bit of changed dialog really that cool? Between stealth kills, the ability that allows unlimited combat finishers, and the ability to leap over your foes, combat was not much of a challenge. I died several times in the beginning, then almost never after these abilities were unlocked. Oh, and a bit of a spoiler here, after you get the brand ability... fuggetaboutit! Nothing can stand in your way. This was all very cool and made me feel powerful, but I still like a challenge. Oh, and a couple of times I had some control issues, but I guess that is what comes with the ability to fluently hop onto and climb walls. Anyway, like I said I had lots of fun playing the game, I just hope the game offers more of a challenge next time around.

Not bad....
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Normally I dont buy video games based on books or movies, but I gave this one a shot. Graphics are amazing but game play is too repetitive. Kill this captain, watch another take his place. Help this stupid orc become a boss and rise through the ranks to get no where. Watch Gollum run through acting like his stupid self as always....still looking for the precious.... Pros: Graphics, gameplay mechanics... Cons: Repeated quests, mobs get way to difficult when attempting to take out bosses, some almost impossible to defeat.

Fun games with massive storyboard and good grphx
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this based on on-line reviews and glad I did. LOTS of fun with a huge playing environment. Games quite tough as you progress through finding and killing Captains for the invading Uruk army. Little (lot!) confusing early on but you eventually catch on and then the game is much better. Even thought of calling in sick one day (I didn't) to play as I wanted to keep going. Get it--you'll be glad you did.

Game of the Year
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a game! It is great to see a game that can take the Lord of the Rings mythology and add in a new story line that is intriguing and exciting to be in. Take the controls as a ranger with wraith powers as you cut down Sauron's captains and horde of orcs. Learn to control them and have them fight along side you in your quest. The Nemesis system is very innovative and fun to plan strategy with. The game can be difficult at times since the orcs are constantly spawning, but once you learn the controls and gain more power you will run into the groups of enemies looking for a fight. This game is a must buy, and is on it's way to earning a game of the year award.

Addicting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you enjoy Assassin's Creed titles and the lore of Lord of the Rings, then this game was designed with you in mind. The game is loads of fun and has tons of side missions on top of an exciting campaign that makes you not want to put the controller down. Some parts of the game can be difficult if you go run in and start hacking away at everything, which modern gaming often encourages. This game pushes you to think tactically before going into situations. An interesting aspect of the game is the Uruk Captains, which all act as mini-bosses. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses and learning of those before hand becomes an almost essential part of success in this game. Overall I am still loving every aspect of this game. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves hack and slash games that don't mind putting some thought into their playing experience.

Cool game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent graphics, good game play. Some of the challenges are too difficult for a casual gamer - I like to win easily and enjoy the game. It's my escape from reality and sometimes it's a little too difficult for that.

Good game but tough for arthritics
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is well thought out with great graphics. My problem is it dumps you into the action too quickly, and the amount of times button pushing and continuous manipulation of the controller is too much for an older person with arthritis. Even on the easiest setting it proved to challenging.

Very good, but small world
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shadows of Mordor borrows from, and is similar to, a variety of games, namely Assassin's Creed (open world), Far Cry 3 (things to do), and the Batman Arkham (fighting) series. It is a very satisfying game, if a tad on the easy side.

Great game, incredibly frustrating
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.OK, so it may have a lot of elements of Assassins Creed but overall I like it. But I have one major complaint. When you die from a Captain, that Captain moves up in power. There happens to be one Captain that is stalking my player, seemingly appears out of nowhere and is now so powerful that I have no hope of killing him. Makes me mad. May have to start all over again and that won't happen. Far too many video games and not enough time.

Fun for Casual Gamers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game has been lots of fun so far. Great structure and storyline. This game is essentially Assassins Creed LOTR edition with a fun mix of stealth and pure head on combat. Only complaint if any is the level of difficulty. This game is not very difficult at all and is great for the average casual gamer but may lack a bit of thrill for a gamer seeking a challenge.

Awesome
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is a beautiful blend of action and stealth, and a bit of strategy thrown into the mix. The game is beautiful, loads quickly, saves easily, and dying doesn't completely punish you. This is true gaming fun.

Not what I expected but still Good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I expected a little less action and more strategy to this game. The action is good and easy to grasp. Unlike other games being killed makes things a little harder. Saurons army gets stronger. It's fun and I still enjoy the game

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a game with a lot going on. As a new fps player I wish the game was not so difficult but I suppose it is good for experienced players.

Great Game!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not a huge fan of LOTR, but decided to preorder this game after all the positive press it was receiving. I preordered and got the $10 RZ cert for the GCU. I was shocked at how good the game is. It's exploration and layout similar to the Assasin's Creed series (to include the special vision) and the combat is identical to the Batman Arkham series. Very good game. The Nemesis system, where the enemy encounters are unique, and change after each encounter and death, is very cool and leads to some funny exchanges. The game is a little difficult at first, so be prepared to die some. Overall this is a fantastic game. Even if you're not a LOTR fan, the game is fantastic. if you are - this is probably the best LOTR game out yet.
