    A Game Changer

Probably one of the most underrated games, Shadow of Mordor lets you play as a ranger fighting for revenge -- a quest that puts you directly against Sauron's forces. The combat system is great, and if you like Assassin's Creed and the Batman Arkham series, you'll love this game. One of the game's highlights is the way you'll use your powers and command to instill fear in the Uruk horde. You can threaten generals, find weaknesses, plot takeovers and use fear to your advantage. Would highly recommend this for gameplay and story.

    Fun Game

Let me start by saying this is a solid, fun game. If you are considering it, you probably won't be disappointed. But while everyone and their grandmother seems to love the game, I think the game shines more like aluminum than silver. PROS * Combat is fun * Not too long or short * Good balance between stealth, combat and ranged fighting * Planning your kills according to the enemies' weaknesses * Plans going awry when some other captain/war-chief (or 3) interrupts you current battle, requiring you to stay on your toes CONS * Nemesis system is forgettable * Too easy * Finding artifacts is also too easy * Most captains/war-chiefs can easily be killed with stealth, or with the special ability that allows unlimited combat finishers * Sometimes I was defeated by the controls * After finding dead bodies, uruks will stop hunting you in about a minute Ok, the nemesis system. Some people love that you keep fighting the same uruks over and over, but I don't get why. I didn't even notice I was fighting the same ones because they are all mostly interchangeable. I only cared about the weaknesses of my targets. Is the little bit of changed dialog really that cool? Between stealth kills, the ability that allows unlimited combat finishers, and the ability to leap over your foes, combat was not much of a challenge. I died several times in the beginning, then almost never after these abilities were unlocked. Oh, and a bit of a spoiler here, after you get the brand ability... fuggetaboutit! Nothing can stand in your way. This was all very cool and made me feel powerful, but I still like a challenge. Oh, and a couple of times I had some control issues, but I guess that is what comes with the ability to fluently hop onto and climb walls. Anyway, like I said I had lots of fun playing the game, I just hope the game offers more of a challenge next time around.

While not as steeped in lore for serious fans as I would like, the gameplay is terrific. I never thought that I could spend so many hours slaughtering the armies of Sauron! The combat system is fluid, and the world is stunningly rendered.

Takes its inspiration from other notable series.

Shadow of Modor's gameplay takes inspiration from both the Assassins Creed and the Arkham Asylum series. The game is an open world setting where stealth seems to be stressed more often than going in "guns" blazing. Combat is largely of system of attacking and countering a la timed button presses mixed with equipment use. The other hook of the game is the nemesis system where enemies you lose to in combat move up in rank in the Orc army and become stronger. As far as the story goes it is entertaining enough and there are some cameos by well known characters in the universe. I am not completely steeped in the lore so I can't tell you if it fits within the cannon well.

Normally I dont buy video games based on books or movies, but I gave this one a shot. Graphics are amazing but game play is too repetitive. Kill this captain, watch another take his place. Help this stupid orc become a boss and rise through the ranks to get no where. Watch Gollum run through acting like his stupid self as always....still looking for the precious.... Pros: Graphics, gameplay mechanics... Cons: Repeated quests, mobs get way to difficult when attempting to take out bosses, some almost impossible to defeat.

I'm only about five hours into the game - so keep that in mind. Overall, the gameplay is fantastic. The Nemesis System in the game makes it a more unique adventure/action experience. It's essentially Rocksteady's Batman games blended with some Assassin's Creed, set in Tolkien's universe. The only drawback so far is the environments. There isn't much variety. The environments are murky with a lot of brown and gray hues. There may be a break from this, as I'm only partially through the game, and it's a minor criticism. Overall, worth a purchase if you're into the action/adventure genre.

I'm a fan of the Lord of the Rings books and movies and this game does it great justice. The gameplay mechanics are very similar to Batman Arkham Asylum, which was an awesome game, and the story follows much of the background stories between the main story line. The game is easy to pick up and put down without needing a lot of reminders of how to play or way you were at when you last quit. That being said there is not much too the game, the story is just mildly intriguing and the gameplay is really repetitive.

Plays well, good combat, good story. This game makes you feel like a boss, fighting up to 30 enemies at a time, parrying slicing off heads and limbs, mind controlling orcs, riding beasts and climbing walls. The nemesis engine is a great new feature that more games should try to replicate. Enemies remember you. If you run, they'll trash talk you the next time you meet. If you a fan of the assassin's creed series, this game will feel comfortable.

Got this based on on-line reviews and glad I did. LOTS of fun with a huge playing environment. Games quite tough as you progress through finding and killing Captains for the invading Uruk army. Little (lot!) confusing early on but you eventually catch on and then the game is much better. Even thought of calling in sick one day (I didn't) to play as I wanted to keep going. Get it--you'll be glad you did.

This was a fun game to play through. I didn't really know what was going on with the story most of the time, but just followed the guides to go to the next tasks. The Nemisis system was neat, but again, I couldn't always follow what was going on with the movement and how everything affected the promotions, etc. (I was just looking for action in the game!). Overall, fun to play.

the combat/controls are good, the game has very good graphics, and while I haven't made it too far into the story so far to make a judgement on that, the nemesis system provides ample reason to continue progressing through the game. the need for revenge after an uruk captain berates you for coming back when he's killed you three previous times is great.

If you enjoyed the Batman Arkham games or the Assassin's Creeed games then you should give this a try. All the love that this game is recieving for its gameplay and mechanics and combat are well deserved and the story keeps the game moving at a nice pace. I really can't say anything bad about it other than it just wasn't for me.

I normally do not like the games that come from a "Movie"... but WOW I was shocked! This is a really good game. Fighting and hunting Orcs is a great concept. If you haven't seen this game check out YouTube but you will not be disappointed if you buy it. Have fun!

Excellent graphics, good game play. Some of the challenges are too difficult for a casual gamer - I like to win easily and enjoy the game. It's my escape from reality and sometimes it's a little too difficult for that.

Though this game reminds me heavily of Assassins Creed it holds its own when you add the Lord of the Rings elements into the game play. The Ai in game is like nothing I have seen in any other game before. One minute you could be fighting 1 orc then 12 more come along. The level progression is quite unique also in that it doesnt have that typical RPG feel but follows more of an action platform for level progression. I mean this as you gain abilities and not stat additions. Its a very fun game though and the cinematics and game play graphics are very well done. Chopping off the heads of orcs can also be very entertaining.

Unfair to compare length to Elder Scroll Series, but after a while the tasks and side quests are too repetitive. Overall campaign is too short.
