Leaps and bounds beyond the amazing first game

The first game won many Game Of The Year Rewards, deservedly in my opinion. This sequel makes that game look like a tech demo. I do not know how they made so many improvements for this game. Don't let the ability to buy loot boxes scare you away, I have fantastic gear and I earn it all frequently and with ease just through playing. Of every game I've ever played with micro transactions, this is the only one I've felt neither pressured nor like I'm missing out when I don't buy one. You can earn crates easy, which gets you the gear and XP, DO NOT BE AFRAID. So, so much fun, a must have for any LOTR fan who isn't suuuper strict with canon.

The story is good and fits well into the LOTR genre. However, the ending of the story, even after the P2W loot box fix patch... is a bit hard to want to do. I put 40 hours in by the time I got into the final part of the game. This is the only bit where I think the design was just lazy. Somehow, somewhere, they could have introduced the sieging features somewhere into another act. Anyway, if you're looking for something to scratch the LOTR itch, it's a great option to do that. I played it mostly for that orc murdering. ORC MURDER SIMULATOR 2017, basically.

    The War for Mordor Begins.....

After the smash hit the first game became, the hype for Shadow of War was very strong. And despite some microtransaction controversy, has almost entirely delivered. The game is bigger then it's predecessor in every way. More Orcs, more abilities, more customization, more areas, and now include monolithic Fortress Assaults. There is now a strategy layer on top of everything else, allowing you to customize the defense of your conquered areas in order to resist the push of Sauron's armies. It's just pure fun and chaos, and a must play.

Not sure what happened between the first game and this one, but this game is terrible. Executions that have long animations won't execute unless the animation completes. Most of the times that's impossible because you're busy countering the other enemies. Story is confusing. If you didn't just finish the first game, this game will have you lost. I summoned a beast to assist in battle, but as the beast neared my enemies... I would lock on to my beast and attack it? TF?! If not in a cut scene, the game looks like it was made for the PS3. The first game was great, this one... ugh - PASS.

Every one of my reviews for other products are always 5-star. I hate to not follow that with this game and I really REALLY wanted to like it more than I do. I've not finished the game yet but I must admit, a gamer of 35+ years now (since the original Wizardry on PC), this game struck me as overly complicated. I'm really good at picking up game mechanics but this one seemed like they added stuff just to make it more complicated, maybe with the mindset that the more stuff they cram into it the more people will like it. No me. I'll try to finish it but right now I'm not really feeling it.

If you love the first game then you will love this one. Not only does it take the game but build on to it with a better system and more RPG elements. This game is huge and long so that will start to take a toll on you over the course of time. If you are like me and have ADHD you will get bored over the course of time just doing the same thing over and over. Loot crates. Unfortunately, I did not really have really issue with the loot crate system but have been told that in the later part of the game it that loot crate's speed things up.

This game is huge. You play as a fallen ranger who is out to stop Sauron from regaining his power as well as his legendary black dragon riders. You’ll level up and gain new abilities along the way that are a real treat for action gamers. Tribes of Orcs and Uruk’Hai will fall to your will as you take them over and warp their minds to build your own army! Enemies remember you and will talk about your last meeting on precise ways. After you eliminate a tribe leader, you usurp their throne and control their whole group!

OK, my multiple paragraph review wouldn't post because of some unknown 'language guideline' violation*. (and no, no profanity was used in my initial review.) So, I'm now appending my review to basic form: great idea, terrible execution. Lose the quick time events and this game improves immensely. * Hey, Best Buy, when blocking someone's review, how about providing some indication of what violation is being cited? Helps you, helps the poster, helps the person possible reading reviews trying to make a decision. Just a thought.

If you liked Shadow of Mordor, you'll like this game, but don't expect a completely new, different experience...its more of the same. This time you can control Orc armies, and you can craft gems to make your weapons and armor stronger, etc. If you can get this on sale for sub $10.00, like I did, I would say it's a no brainer. Plenty to do, although it does get repetitive after awhile.

Aside from possible story/universe creative freedoms (Shelob the spider is a brunette hottie?) the story is pretty good. Fighting orcs gets you better equipment hence looting. Add in side missions, weapon upgrade missions, elf poem door missions, etc. and you’ve got a lot to do. Upgrading is solid via exp point accruals and skills are generally useful. Kinda dumb that you have to unlock ability to auto pickup items. Fighting is fun and expanded, very similar to Batman games. At some point you can fly on the drakes. #goals

Aside from the combat and variety of animations, nothing about this game is amazing. However, every part (sound, writing, voice acting and story) are at least good, with a few components (combat, control is and the army system) coming in at very good. The package as a whole though, rises above the sum of its parts because no aspect of the game under delivers to hold it back. The micro transaction loot boxes are a waste and completely useless, but also completely able to be ignored without impeding your progress.

I love that they decided not to completely switch up the controls from Shadow of Mordor. Some games have a bad habit of completely switching their scheme up with every installment, looking at you UFC. I felt right at home with the controls from the get-go, but there is still a decent amount of new stuff to learn. Super fun game whether or not you’ve played the prequel, and for a great price.

I liked the first one but this one is even better. I really like the combat system, the stealth, the wraith abilities, etc. Seriously a really fantastic game. I could see how it could get repetitive if you were not doing the story or side quests as there are hundreds of orcs to kill, but it is extremely satisfying to kill them and gain exp and new abilities. I find myself spending most of my time using the wraith ability to find the white orcs (red ones are normal, white ones drop loot) and captains.

Lots of improvements from the first game. There's a lot of sidequests to do, and a tons of abilities to unlock. The open-world aspect has been changed to a number of large set pieces instead. While they're all intricate, they lack the sense of scope and scale of the original. And despite the world being filled to the brim with objectives, it gets a little repetitive quickly. It doesn't help that the story is a confusing mess. Play this one just for the satisfying action.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! About 30% into the campaign you get a loading screen that never goes away with no way to progress in the game. It is now feb 2018 and it has been a problem since October 2017, negligent developers are not putting out a patch. Check this link for yourself. Please don’t waste your time and money like I did. Very frustrating https://community.wbgames.com/t5/Support/Crash-Freeze-on-starting-quot-The-Etten-quot/td-p/1699206/highlight/false/page/6

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is a huge game with nice graphics, an amazing number of enemies on the screen, and the improved Nemesis system which ensure the experience is unique and memorable (the enemies remember you and your actions). The removal of the loot chests, balancing and upgraded level cap make for a remediation for the complaints by gamers and the more fun and skills to be had. This is a great game and will keep engaged for hours.

This is one of those games that you can play for months and not get tired of. Combat is fantastic,, skill progression is fun and fair, and the nemesis system has really made some unique and incredible stories. Also? Don't worry about micro transactions or loot boxes. They're not necessary in the slightest (the game is better if you ignore them honestly) but if you want them you make more than enough of the in game currency to get a whole bunch of boxes if you want.

Fighting scenes remind me of the Batman game and it’s a bit repetitive - go get this bad guy, now go get that bad guy - but each of their fighting styles is different which makes the cut scenes fun. Wish I could upgrade faster and had more than 3 lives before I die but that makes it challenging too. Almost makes it realistic to run off & recharge; run away & fight another day. And to top it off, you have help in defending kingdoms / towers. Very good RPG.

The game has fantastic graphics, which are largely appealing. The exploding heads get old, and the lack of experience for killing grunts forces players to focus on the missions. I preferred the experience model from the previous version. The skill tree is a bit overwhelming. The game is full of humor, which is probably the main draw for me at this point in the story. I am no where close to beating the game, so look to others for information on that side.
