It is really fun, but gets boring fast. You could wait on this game to be cheaper before buying.

The gameplay mechanics in this game are fun, but everything else is relatively bland.

The interesting story is the only thing keeping this title alive. Boring button mashing combat, averagely ok graphics, and an odd enemy generating system.

This game offers more of the same as Shadow of Mordor with an improved Nemesis System. Traveling can get tedious as sometimes the fast travel points still put you far from where you need to go.

There's a lot going for this game and the first two acts are pretty good. Unfortunately, the final half of the game is an enormous, tedious grind to collect more and more Orcs and level them all up. There are loot box micro transactions and the developers assured everyone before release that the game had been balanced/designed around NOT using them but having played the game, I can now confirm they lied. That horrendous, boring grind at the end of the game is clearly there to strong-arm people into buying those loot boxes. There's also a multiplayer mode but it is basically unplayable unless you're sinking lots of money into those boxes because your Orcs can permanently die in that mode so without the loot boxes, you'll need to do hours of grinding in single player between multiplayer matches to replenish your Orcs. First few hours were great but I got the game yesterday & I'll probably be selling it back come the weekend because I'll be done with it by then. Knowing what I know now, I would have given this one a miss.

This game is great. The combat feels awesome and the nemesis system is really fun. The story is pretty boring but the gameplay more than makes up for it!

I very much enjoyed the first game with the story, the gameplay, and just everything involved, however it felt a little short. This new game has so much more content, but it doesn't feel like good content to me. It seems repetitive, boring, and very detached. There's no drive for me to play the game because there's no challenge to it, and I don't feel like I'm accomplishing anything.

What you'd expect if you played the first. Combat is the same. The fortress game play is fun. For a LoTR game, the story could have been a lot better. Thought this would have been fixed from the first game. Worth a buy if on sale.

This game is a great game, But it has it's flaws. My two biggest gripes are the micro-transactions, Which isn't that big of a deal (Just don't buy the in-game currency), and the section of the game called the Shadow Wars. It is 10 stages of just defending your fortresses. It gets very repetitive and boring, and you have to complete the 10 stages of shadow wars to see the final cut scene and credits. Other than those two gripes of mine I think this game is fun to play. You will get a lot of hours out of this game, I easily put anywhere between 20 to 45 hours into this game and only completed 90 something percent of the game. The shadows of the past missions is all I did not complete. Overall, I recommend this game. Buy this game on sale, And don't buy the in-game currency.

A great sequel, marred by a poor final act

Fans of Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor will be likely to enjoy this sequel. Shadow of War improves upon many elements of the previous installment. You'll find new ways to power up your character such as finding higher level weapons and armor, and stones to add bonuses to said items. You can also build up your orc army's power in a number of ways in order to improve your chances of success in the attacks and defense of each region that will occur throughout the game. Combat is very similar to the previous installment, which is a good thing. You'll dodge and counter attacks by pressing the corresponding button when on screen prompts appear throughout combat. You'll have a variety of different special attacks which will increase as you level up your character, including fire, frost, and poison based attacks. This keeps combat fresh throughout the game, as well as giving you more tools to defeat tougher opponents. By far, the worst part of the game is the final act of the game. During this act, you will defend the regions you've conquered throughout the game numerous times. So many times that it becomes a boring grind. I'm not sure if this act was included to extend the hours of gameplay, or to increase the chances that people will spend real money on the game's infamous loot boxes, but either way, the whole act seems quite pointless. Overall a solid game, and I would recommend it. Honestly the final act of the game is so poorly done that I considered giving the game a 3 star rating instead of a 4 star rating, but I thought that would be a bit too harsh.
