I purchased 2 of these mics to assist Santa Claus. They hide well under the beard, don't pick up background noise like boom mics and allowed me to know each kids name as they approached. The proof is in the pudding and numerous pre-school and kindergarteners believe in Santa because of these mics. I haven't used the mic extensively, but I will be using it for hiking/hunting and other outdoor activities.

poor quality sound from the throat mic

During two recent occasions when I tried the throat microphone, I was told by numerous people that my voice was very muffled. I use it while on drives with my car club, and since we drive convertibles I wanted something to cut down wind and road noise. The throat mic does a great job at eliminating background noise, but I was told by many others that my voice was muffled and hard to understand when using it. Others much preferred the sound quality when I switched back to my behind the ear headset with boom mic. This was very disappointing, because the description sounded like it would be perfect for my intended use.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
