Posted .We're sorry to hear your experience was less than 5-stars. Best range will be achieved in open areas without obstructions, or on flat areas. The "up to" range is under optimal conditions (ex: over open water, desert, or mountain top to mountain top). As with all two way radios, any obstructions between radios will reduce the range.

Very disappointing considering I bought these to be able to converse at a minimum 2 mile distance
