This radio is NOT GMRS, it is FRS but bestbuy advertise as FRS/GMRS. The GMRS model is GXT1000VP4. I called the manufacturer to confirm the model bestbuy advertised is not gmrs.

Before the day was done the batteries were dead and needed to be recharged. They sound clear and work well but the longevity isn’t there

Posted .Hey there, we are sorry to hear that your batteries did not last as long as you would have liked. On a full charge you should see between 8 - 12 hours of continuous use. It was working a bit harder to get the signal around the metal and glass that make up your vehicle, so that could have put a strain on the radios as well. If you do frequent road trips, you might want to look into our MicroMobile units. These are GMRS radios (so they will communicate with the walkies) and they are powered by your car battery, with a detached antenna. This will provide you with amazing range and you will never have to worry about charging radios.
