This may sound a bit odd, but I bought these for the day when I really need them. Not until. If the internet goes down, the phone's all fail to work, or the electricity is turned off... I'm ready! My family and I will be able to communicate. Kind of like a fire extinguisher... you only need one if you need one!

The last pair of FRS radios I bought, about ten years ago, worked pretty good, but burned through batteries. My initial experience was concerned with batteries again, this time with problems charging.
After a call to the manufacturer, a replacement set of batteries arrived. Upon reading the instructions that came with the replacement batteries, I realized they could go in two ways while still keeping the correct polarity. I flipped the battery pack over and the batteries charged! I made the same change on the batteries that came with the radios with the same results. Both the original and replacement batteries appear to be good.
In summary, the replacement batteries came with clear placement instructions. I can sometimes transpose instructions so will accept operator error on my part. These radios work great and operate days on a single charge with great range.

These worked well on our RV trip out West with two other RVs.
Distance was about 3 miles that we could hear each other loud and clear. Battery life was about 12 hours before needing to be charged. I would recommend them.

I have several models of the Midland 2 way radios and this is the best. Clear sound, good distance, and the volume control is helpful as I use it for hunting.

The "talkies" are exactly what my wife and I need to communicate with each other throughlout the day. We are both over 70 and when we are in different rooms we use the talkies to communicate. The instruments are totally silent when not being used by us or rarely by others on the same channel. We have not yet tested the range of these but they fit our needs perfectly.

FRS radios are often given bad reviews because new users have undue expectation. This read is advertised as 38 miles in range. That may be possible in idea situations but for most uses that will not be true. I have this for about a month and the low powered channels work well for about half a mile. With the higher powered channels this carries as far as 2-3 miles in an imperfect environment (not line of site).
I bought this so that my wife and I can contact each other over short distances and without buying a second cell phone.
The instructions can be a bit confusing but if you don't need to know everything.

Had an opportunity to use these on a car club tour in the Black Hills of SD. Even in the canyons on the twisting roads, I was impressed by the range. Easy to use and the menu system made it easy to change channels or any of the other operating parameters.

Bought them to communicate with caravan across country, California to Oklahoma. They worked great! Now we use them on the Ranch to keep track of each other. No Cowboy leaves the barn without one.
