Let me preface this first by saying this vacuum is the Cadillac of vacuum cleaners out there - especially if you're a taller human being like I am. There's absolutely no comparison when you place a Miele side by side with ANY OTHER VAC OUT THERE.
I used to buy cheapo vac's before this one. Tolerating things such as a power chord that can't even go into the next room because it's too short. Having to turn ALL THE LIGHTS on in the house just to see the area I'm vacuuming. Bending over with the hose because the attachments are too short. Dealing with poorly designed vac's that fall over because the hose attachment is just too short and doesn't stretch far enough. Dust flying everywhere when you do finally empty out the "bagless versions". And, the list goes on and on. The Miele addresses all these concerns, and more.
The reason for 3 stars? Well, yesterday I went to vacuum and with 2 minutes, my Miele turned off and wouldn't power back on. I checked for clogs. Checked to make sure the handle where the power button is wasn't loose. Everything seemed fine. It just stopped working. Luckily, I bought a Geek Squad protection plan and was able to get a replacement. Beforehand however, I was allowed to either get a different brand vacuum or stick with Miele. Admittedly, I did go and look at the other vac's in the Best Buy store. The Shark's. The Dyson's. Among others. They're all SERIOUSLY cheap feeling and look like toys in comparison to the Miele I've become spoiled with using for nearly a year now. Short power chords. Short hoses. Clunky. Don't feel solidly built at all. After playing around with many of them for 30 minutes, I went back to the store rep and told her to just mail me a new Miele.
Now, this is a 5-star vac, don't get me wrong. But, this experience has really bummed me out for a $700 vac. And, what if I didn't purchase a protection plan? I would basically be out $700 after only a year? Pretty unacceptable. Will never know why or how my Miele I just dropped off at Best Buy stopped working, which is a concern, and I won't know if the new one will do the same thing a year from now. I did have to pay $80 for a new 2-year protection plan so basically I did have to "pay" to get my vac problem squared away.
As far as things I've noticed about the Miele since owning it? The only complaint I really is regarding the power chord. It's super long which is fantastic, but the way it wraps around the vac to put it away is a bit awkward and difficult. The top clip where the chord wraps onto is directly near the top of the handle and there isn't much space between the clip and another part of the handle to quickly wrap it around and move-on with other chores. It catches on another part of the handle unless you take your time and with as along as the chord is and as busy as you might be, it becomes annoying after awhile.
Other than that, great vac. Just bummed mine broke and I'll never know why and I had to buy again for a protection plan.
