It's Minecraft Again, but Different Where It Count

Anyone who has played Minecraft on PC knows what to expect from the game on Xbox 360. It's the same game, but there are enough differences to justify owning the console version in addition to the PC version. Firstly, split-screen multiplayer. This is probably the biggest plus for the console edition. You can play with up to four players on your console, and those players can enter your game at any point as you're playing. You just need to be running the console in HD. (I use a generic HDMI cable.) It's great fun with friends! Secondly, this edition cannot generate an "infinite" world. Whether above ground or beneath, you will eventually run into an invisible wall. Some will disagree, but I think of this as a plus. A limited (but still rather large) world means you can fill in your world map and explore in a way that feels more immediately rewarding, and you won't get lost as long as you have your map. Thirdly, the vastly improved crafting system. No longer must you arrange items in specific ways on a grid (often having to look up the various recipes because it's otherwise too cryptic). When you enter the crafting menu it shows you the items you can make and what you need to make them. As long as you have what you need you just select the item you want and it's made! Simple as that. Finally, the game looks and plays wonderfully on the tv and with the Xbox controller. As soon as you start playing it feels like an upgrade to the Minecraft experience, not a console rehash. The only downside is you'll lose a lot of time to the game and wonder where the day went, but anyone familiar with the game already knows that!

Great Creative Game for the Kids

Ok, first of all I am not a psychologist, teacher, or have any medical training so these are just my basic observations of the game. Not that I love my kids playing video games, but if they're going to play this one seems really great. This may be a bit of a stretch, but bear with my. The thing I like about this game is that it's really basic and based on geometric shapes, well really a cube. After watching my kids play this game it really sparks the mind because of this. The player starts with nothing (if playing survival mode) and they have to harvest basic elements and really evolve their world into something out of nothing. Again this may be cheezy, but the it the game demonstrates how in nature we have to harvest our natural resources and use them to create things in life, whether it's wood, coal or gold. The other thing I like is the creativity that the kids have with the game. While the game is basic, the freedom it gives the kids is great. They're creating these crazy houses and towns after starting from nothing. Pro's - Not gory - not too violent - i do think the game sparks creativity - while the graphics are basic, I actually like that!

This game's definitely an acquired taste. If you prefer something short and to the point, skip it. Obviously, any amount of research into this game should address that question. It's like the Simpsons or Farmville. You spend time finding one resource in another to create another resource in order to create another resource, etc... The circular nature of upgrading/improving your character's abilities and creations can lead to a sense that you're going nowhere because it never ends. There is no endpoint or 100% completion in this game, unless of course you're going for acheivements. The relaxing music really immerses you into the game's world, and the old school block graphics are sort of a fun little throwback to simpler times. Basically, if you don't like having something that never ends and takes up a lot of time/get's addictive, skip Minecraft. However, if you're in the mood to mine, create, and/or just have something to do while you listen to podcasts/music, and you enjoy the never ending nature of building/creating, pick up Minecraft. The awards it won speak volumes about how it stands out among other games of similar nature.

Minecraft - Xbox 360 is an amazing game that will give you 100's hours of entertainment. My daughter was into Minecraft for a while playing it on the PC version before it came out on the Xbox 360. Once it came out on the Xbox 360 we bought it and play every weekend for hours on end. It's a great way to hang out with your kids and create some amazing creations. When I was a kid it was sitting on the floor playing with LEGO's not its Minecraft. It's not just mindless game play, many times my daughter and I drew out on paper what we wanted to make before creating it within the game. The game is only limited by your imgination. The game has had some great upgrade to it, to include allowing to tame ocelots(they tame into cats# and wolves #they tame into a dogs). The game is super fun and Minecraft would be a great Christmas gift for kids and adults alike. I enjoy this game and would definitely recommend it. Thank you for reading my review, if you have any questions feel free to email me, I would be happy to help you with any questions you have.

I bought this because my teen started playing on her PC and then the elementary school aged one got involved. To reduce conflict, I purchased the game as a Christmas gift- however they got a peak of the package before it was wrapped and begged to play it on Black Friday. It has brought nothing but fun since and now they both share building the world with greater ease since the younger one can better follow/understand what needs to be selected on the game controller in order to execute certain commands. This has allowed the teen to be more patient and brought about lots of peace in our house. lol

My daughter has been playing Minecraft on the computer for years and with her birthday coming up and this Deal of the Day special...well,it was just perfect! She is very happy with this game and I was very happy to score this for only $14.99! If your child loves Minecraft, this will be a sure-fire smile maker. My daughter's favorite thing about it is that she can play with others on the 360.There are so many things she can build. She's had it for 3 weeks and hasn't even gotten very far into it so there is quite a bit of play-life in this game. Makes a great purchase for that MInecraft fan you know (and love)!

Both our 6 year old and 7 year old LOVE this game. Its one I feel ok about letting them play because the violence is mild (it is a little disturbing when they kill the animals for fun, but no blood, guts or gore at all and they do get useful things for killing animals so its ok) and it teaches them a little but about crafting items, engineering and building buildings, and even gardening and caring for animals. It has made them interested in cooking and different rocks and some of what they have built is really impressive. Overall, a game they love and I feel good about.

This is a great game. This is not your typical video game. You don't have a mission or goal. You can play survival mode and learn to build your own shelters and hunt for food. This mode is a lot of fun and will easily take away his from your day. The other mode is creator mode. In this mode you can make the world to your liking. This is the ultimate Lego style game we all wished we had when we were kids. It's very easy to sink hours into this game and it's very relaxing on top of that. This game is kid friendly and there is little to not love about this game.

A few years back, my nephew was soooo into this game on his ipad. I tried downloaded this game on my ipad and didn't or couldn't understand the controls so I gave up. However, I took a chance on th 380 version and it looks the same but I finally figured it out and it is an awesome game now that i started playing. Had 2 12+hours so far and will be playing shortly after this review. This game will let you build whatever your heart desires during the day......At night don't go out in the dark or lse the boogey man WILL get you!!! Zombies and creepers and the like.

I bought this game for my daughter after holding out for a long time to purchase. I guess the biggest issue was the fear that she would become addicted to it and never want to do anything in real life. Thankfully she only plays sometimes and she really loves this game. I am not too sure what the appeal is for kids around her age, (9), but kids love it. This shows the paradigm shift of how people are now doing nerdy things like engineering and crafting and having fun doing it.

Husband says its A user friendly game that you can play no matter what level of difficulty your at. There are tuturial play, creative play, and survival play modes. You can build things and then in survival mode you have creepers, zombies, spiders and skeleton to find and earn supplies.

Been playing Minecraft since the week before Beta came out, in December of 2010 and bought this for my nephews and niece for this past Christmas. While the Xbox 360 version is limited in scope, it has made some good headway in catching up with the features on PC; it's a great version for the kids, as it doesn't require much know-how on their part, and they won't ruin a computer trying to get mods for their PC version. Plus, it's simpler for a group of kids to play locally on Xbox 360.

I looked for this game for my two nephews since last Christmas and couldn't find it anywhere. My nephews saw this game when they were with me and I bought it for them. They talk about it all the time and seem extremely happy with the game. I don't play video games and don't know much about them, but I'm glad that this was not an extremely violent game like a lot of the others I've seen in stores. This game seems to require creativity and thinking and I like that about it.

My 7 year old grandson asked for this game at Christmas and we got it for him as a gift. He plays this game for hours on end and has yet to lose interest in it. I am a first person shooter fan so Minecraft doesn't interest me but it seems to have great appeal to young gamers. Be prepared for poor "blocky" graphics since this is basically the same game that was originally designed for and released for use on the PC in 2009 and has been recently adapted for play on the Xbox 360 and other gaming systems.

My brother always loved Minecraft, but he would only play it on his computer. For his birthday I decided to get him the Xbox version for a change, and let me tell you: he LOVES it! This was by far the best gift I ever gave to anyone. If you want a sibling to enjoy their selves, then just get this game! Enjoyable game content, free roam, and do whatever you want! Build your own house, or destroy a mountain, it's your call! A+ by me, good sell Best Buy!

The best I could compare it to with someone not familiar with the Minecraft game would be like electronic Legos ... but with more customization and of course that its interactive. You can build what ever you can think of or imagine with the blocks and interact with the huge online community and worlds that others have built and opened up for you to explore and gather new materials to use in creating all kinds of objects. Well worth trying out for the normally less than $20 price tag.

This game will keep most kids busy for hours. You do not feel so guilty letting them play as there are challenging, cognitive processes within the core of the game, which is part of the draw. The replay value is endless and kids can even create their own amazing maps. What a great value for $15 bucks. I did feel like I was back in 1995 playing an early first person shooter, but the game makers didn't intend for the graphics to win any prizes and that's ok. 5 stars.

I love most first person shooter games. Most other games are just tedious. Once you learn how to craft and find stuff, you are off to the races with this game. My 5 year old child and I have had so much fun playing this with split screen on. The engagement that this enables is amazing. The buildings that my child designes are mind blowing for me. We get a lot of ideas from YouTube videos. Hours of game play for all. And I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a fun game.

I don't get Minecraft. Yes, I'm old (in my 40's - gasp!). My sons play it, and I find it infinitely annoying. The graphics are rudimentary. The visuals during game play are disorienting. And the kids will waste hours mesmerized by it. If you're a kid and like Minecraft, then the Xbox 360 edition will probably work well for you. If you're a parent like me, who's tired of vampire children who have to be forced outside into the light, grab your garlic and stay away!

So, I've been a big fan of Minecraft for a while, but my PC was having issues so I decided to buy the Xbox version, thinking it would be the same. Boy was I wrong. The game play is the same, and I love the crafting table on the Xbox version, but the map is tiny. you start off with a map and that is it. you hit invisible walls once you reach the border. This is a total deal breaker to me. Had i known of this, I wouldn't have bought it. You're better off playing the PC version.
