Everything is awesome! Oops, wrong franchise

The Xbox One version of this game is about what you would expect: Awesome. Are the graphics noticeably better with breathtaking hi-res textures and more complex polygons and animations? Ha! But that's not what Minecraft is about. There's no real story or campaign or objectives in Minecraft. You simply start out, have a variety of tools and environments to explore/destroy/build upon, and do whatever you want from there. Complexity ranges from ultra simple (TNT go boom lolz!), to as horrendously complex as you want to make it (wiring switches to do all kinds of crazy things, create meta-games, and so forth). There's the standard mode where you have a life bar, more limited resources (which forces you to craft/farm/mine for resources), and enemies. Or creative mode which is more suited for purely creating awesome stuff faster and easier. You can fly, move super fast, have unlimited materials, and so forth. Creative mode will prove to be a much easier way to build that replica Death Star you've been wanting for so long. The console versions of Minecraft are always a little bit behind the PC version in terms of updates, but most won't notice or care except the die-hard Minecrafters. I prefer the console version simply because I prefer my couch to my office chair. One important thing to note is that if you bought the Xbox 360 version previously (digital), you can purchase the Xbox One (digital) version from the Xbox Store for a discounted $4.99, which was totally worth it in my opinion. The Xbox One version also has many new achievements compared with the 360 version (1000 points worth vs 200 points). You may not care about these, but I personally love trying to fully explore the games and unlock all their achievements, so this adds a *lot* of replay value for me. Some of them will take quite some time to attain as they can't be unlocked in Creative mode. But digital discounts aside, I generally prefer disc versions of games. Physical games tend to go on better sales and more frequent sales, they help me expand my fairly expansive physical game library, I don't have to worry as much about disk space, I can lend the game to a friend or resell it, and I have the pleasant feeling of actually owning something tangible. But if these perks don't interest you, the convenience of digital is nice to have to (switch games without swapping discs). It might take awhile of tinkering around with the game before you "get it", but once you do, it can be a lot of fun.

Do not buy from Best Buy digital services!

This review isn't for the game itself, which is awesome and I own it on several platforms. I purchased an Xbox One JUST TO PLAY MINECRAFT and while at my local Best Buy decided to pick up Minecraft while I was there so I could just plug everything in and start playing. Whoops! The little piece of cardboard you pick up in the Xbox section says that the code will be printed on your receipt: WRONG! The receipt says instead that you will be emailed the code and shows your email address. Okay, fine, I can dig it. Well, 2 hours later, my Xbox One is setup and I don't have an email from Best Buy. I rarely have a Saturday evening available to play and my limited leisure time was rapidly fading away as I waited on the incompetence of Best Buy. I called the number on the receipt, and, after doing battle with the worst voice recognition IVR I have ever encountered (I write those things for a living!) I had to pass through the Geek Squad to get to the digital content division (inconveniently located in the Philippines). I was told that a request was made to send the code and we verified my email. I was given ticket number and told that the code would be sent ASAP and up to 4 hours. Well, come Sunday morning: no email. (Yes, I checked my spam box, not an idiot). I called back again and did the annoying "lousy IVR to Geek Squad to the Philippines" dance again. This time, while still barely able to understand the poor woman on the other line, I did finally come to understand that what they were trying to say was that the code would take 24 to 48 hours to arrive. Unfortunately, since I made the mistake of buying in the store (Best Buy isn't making the case for brick-and-mortar), I couldn't get a refund over the phone. So, watching my weekend fading fast. I went on Amazon, bought the code, and had it right in front of me in 30 seconds. Best Buy needs to get it's digital act together, but if the stores around town are any indication, it seems Best Buy is in the death throes of a failed electronics store. It took me 25 minutes to even find the game systems due to lousy signage and while there the selection was puny, I mean, GameStop has a larger selection and only has 1000sq ft to work with. I could have had my Xbox delivered on a Sunday from Amazon, and still been playing the game at the same time I am now. I mean, seriously, the Best Buy associates were pulling out their personal cell phones to figure out their bundle pricing from the website. The customer should never come into the store more knowledgeable about the deals than the people who work at the store!

I have enjoyed watching my kids play Minecraft, and enjoyed playing Minecraft with them, for years. We have played it on PC, iPad, tablets, Droid and iPhones, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and have had great experiences with it on every platform we've tried. I recently re-discovered Minecraft after a few years away when my girlfriend's son discovered it, and I am blown away at how much additional content (textures, colors, animals, mobs, tools, etc.) has been added to the game. It's no wonder this game continues to have this much staying power after this many years. Now that my oldest has moved away, I am no longer able to play his copy of Minecraft on the Xbox One at my home. I purchased a copy of Minecraft Xbox One Edition so that I could play with my girlfriend's son over Xbox Live when I am not with them. However, he purchased the current download version of Minecraft (which is just titled "Minecraft", not "Minecraft Xbox One Edition" - IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE - The old disc version, which is what I purchased, evidently can NOT be played online with other players using the current download version (I believe the current version is unofficially called the "Better Together" update, and it is supposed to allow cross-play between Xbox, PC, Mobile and other versions of Minecraft - but evidently NOT the version I purchased.) If there is an update available that will make this version of the game compatible with the newer version, I was unable to find it on Xbox.com or minecraft.com. If you or your kids do not play Minecraft online with other gamers, this version is probably fine, but otherwise I recommend you avoid purchasing this particular edition of the game and download it instead. TL;DR I still HIGHLY recommend this game, just not this particular version of it.

I'd definitely say that this is the best version of the game to buy, and I say that for a few reasons: - Microsoft now owns the rights to the Minecraft franchise, so Microsoft consoles will be getting the game updates (which include new features, items, worlds, texture/skin packs, etc.) first. - When compared to the Xbox 360 version, this version features sharper graphics, more players per world, and a more vast/infinite landscape/ceiling height. - Unlike the PC version of this game, the Xbox One version easily allows for split-screen couch co-op that will allow families/friends to build worlds together. I never thought I would advocate for a couch co-op game again after the Xbox 360/PS3 generation of consoles truly revolutionized online multiplayer for consoles, but this game actually allows for a seamless and unobtrusive split-screen experience that brings Minecraft multiplayer to players that prefer offline play. Overall, other than the lack of mods that are available to PC players, the Xbox One version represents the complete package for Minecraft veterans and newcomers alike. I've heard lots of people complain that there aren't enough family friendly or game-night games on the new generation of consoles, but I think that this game can easily be in each of those categories.

As a child you played with wooden or plastic blocks to create what you saw in the world around you — a house, a car, a bridge, a cement mixer. In high school, you built lamps, signs and more in shop class. You've also constructed full worlds, filled with realistic people simulating real life. Now, you can go back to your childlike roots and build with blocks again — but this time they're virtual blocks, and you can use them to create vibrant, 3D worlds that are filled with adventure and the magic of imagination. Get ready to build whatever pops into your mind when you jump into the 3D, eight-bit worlds of Minecraft. Brought to life on your Xbox One, Minecraft lets you flex and hone your creative might as you construct literally any and everything you can think of. Grab your controller and start stacking virtual blocks to build the open-world of your dreams. Just make sure to make a shelter before nightfall, as that's when the monsters emerge. Are you ready to construct the world of your dreams in nostalgic, eight-bit fashion?

Parents need to know that Minecraft is an open-ended, exploration and creation focused environment. One of the best-selling, independently developed and published video games, We bought this for our 8 year old. Players can create items and buildings from scratch using materials they harvest from the world around them. There is no story, but players will encounter aggressive monsters they can fight using swords and bows. Graphics are extremely blocky, and there is no blood or gore, but the creatures can be a bit scary when they moan or appear seemingly out of nowhere. Parents should note that this game has a thriving online community hosted by private, non-moderated servers. This means players could encounter offensive content in the form of profane text messages and suggestively shaped player-created structures, although players don't have to engage in online activity to enjoy the game.

I have this for computer and xbox 360, but son wanted if for new xbox one. Computer version is the best of course, but can't play the computer on the couch. So basically same as xbox 360 version, but larger world? My problem with this version as opposed to xbox 360: THEY TOOK AWAY ABILITY TO SAVE WHENEVER YOU WANT even playing on easy setting. Sometimes you want to try something and you know you might die. On 360 you could save before and if you died, you could go back to that save and not loose everything. On xbox one it just autosaves and you are either stuck with last autosave or with loosing your stuff. Yes I know there is an option for "keep your stuff", but really, why take away options on a new console. Yes get this if you don't already have xbox 360 version, otherwise don't get it.

I purchased this after watching five hours of playthroughs on YouTube. I figured since I don't have control of anything that gets casted to my television why not get the game for the kid to play instead of watching someone else play. It's a creative outlet for anyone with the patience to collect and build a vision in their head. There is a creative mode which doesn't require the need to collect items. Everything is at your disposal, which in my opinion takes some of the fun out of the game. Ensure you have a code lock on purchases for the console otherwise you will receive wrist notifications from Microsoft thanking you for purchase.

Minecraft is a fun game for expressing your creativity. It's like having a Lego set with unlimited pieces and nearly unlimited variety. My kids and I have played Minecraft on almost every platform available and they are all great...except this one. This version of Minecraft is not compatible with the version currently available via download. If you only play it by yourself this version is fine, but if you want to play online with friends, buy the current online version. I purchased this not knowing it would not be playable online, and Best Buy would not refund or exchange it for credit. That's the reason fo my 1 star rating.

For consoles that is! This game has an endless amount of play, recommend playing with friends/family, solo play- though possible just so much time consumption for one life to waste on! Pretty fun once you get your personal touches on your world. Be aware life passes you by heavily with this game, payout is rewarding but Computer version is still better but with many updates they are closing that gap. None the less with extra dlc available to spice up the look and feel this is great version. Lastly final thoughts, billion hours have been played on this game, imagine if we all went outside and played in our neighborhoods like the old days! Good day. -got this on sale at bestbuy for $14.99 this game NEVER goes on sale. Only buy when it does!

This is a very good gaming choice for people with an Xbox, it has great visuals and comes with mini-games that are loads of fun to play by yourself and with friends. It also has amazing multiplayer quality that doesn’t make the game lag or glitch while playing with other people. The game also allows you to be creative and teach you to balance and save your resources while at the same time go on awesome adventures and get creative building structures. Another good advantage is that it teaches you a few parts of architecture like measurements and area. I recommend this to people of all ages that like to be “out of the box”.

The game was an update for my kids moving from XBOX 360 to XBOX One. Seems better (looks better). Kids have enjoyed it. Only issue is why have they not opened the game up more like the PC/MAC versions. My kids are always asking for maps, add-ons, etc. but the only seem possible using convoluted hacks. I am certainly not an expert, so this may be a misunderstanding on my part. Microsoft sells some add-ons in the XBOX store but would think they would try to expand their offerings. There is a huge market if they can port some of the cool stuff to the console and make it easy for parents who don't want to deal with game issues.

I bought this for my granddaughter and loves playing it on our XBOX ONE I also got on sale during Black Friday. I myself don't understand the facination that she has with this game, for me the graphics look more out dated and blocky looking for my taste, she explained that it is supposed to be like this. For myself, I prefer the Battlefield One that came with this game. But for Minecraft game it was a great buy at $19.99 and keeps our Granddaughter entertained whenever she comes over to visit.

I have this game on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One digitally and it's a great game for relaxation and fun. It has online co-op as well as split screen. The game very easy to play, while having multiple areas to explore that can increase in difficulty if you choose to play that way. I brought the disk version as a graduation gift for a child with autism. He loves the game so much, the he plays it everyday. More so than the other games he has. If you want a nice, fun, and relaxing for you, your family, or loved one, this is it.

What a nice, mostly safe, children's game. As you know games are hard to come by for little ones. There are a couple of creepy elements like red eyes and zombies. The risk is minimal to parents' worrying about nightmares. On the Pro side: VERY ENTERTAINING! It draws the imagine out of our 2 girls. They play farm with the animals, they learn how elements (in game items) could work together like cooking or create items or fire. I like the clean up part where they just save and turn off the console!

I'm 37 and a huge gamer. Somehow I'm unable to see the entertainment value in this game...BUT...I'm also a parent and my oldest son adores it. He's had the tablet version for some time but it's a little thin on features so he's often asked for a bigger and better version. When I saw that Best Buy had this on sale for an insane price I jumped on it. My son was thrilled and as much as I can't enjoy it as he does it still serves as entertainment for him and as one of the few games out there that we can play together.

I primarily bought this game to introduce it to my fiance. As she does not game much at all, I thought this would be a great introduction to gaming - and I was right. This is the same game you can download digitally, and the recent updates have kept up with the PC version. This is great to just turn on and play around with - just to kill time or spend hours with friends making buildings and exploring caves. I absolutely adore this game and I would recommend it to anyone.

I purchased this game for my children as they have been playing it on the computer for over two years and we recently purchased an XBox. The kids love it. I actually started playing it and found it SO MUCH BETTER than on the PC. It's more user friendly, has more options, and overall more entertaining. We can modify the settings so they never die, just create, or have zombie type monsters go after them at night. Thus, the settings can be set depending on the age of the child. Great fun! I

This game is one of the best games I ever played because this game has things in real life and that are fake. This lets kids let out all their creativeness because kids can build anything they want and they can destroy mobs like creepers, zombies, zombie pigs and lots more! I can't ever stop playing and it makes my children get along and laugh.this also makes them have fun.I really recommend this game to people who love making random things.
