Despicable Me is a cute movie, with a decent but overdone story about a cold-hearted villain who adopts 3 girls to steal a shrink ray, only for him to fall in love with the girls and turning him into a softie. Not exactly original or as well-done as other films of its ilk, but it had an ace up its sleeve. The minions. These barely understandable jaundiced creatures who are extremely clumsy stole the show and created a huge juggernaut of toys, video games, stickers, food items and et cetera. 3 years later, Despicable Me 2 released, was an even bigger hit but is a lesser movie, mainly due to a bland story (yet again) and a bigger emphasis on the minions, losing the focus of the main characters. 2015 saw the release of our main focus today, Minions, and with the main focus on the Minions and their origin story, will it be great or just a marketing scheme? Apparently the minions have been around since the beginning of time, serving the most evil creatures and people of their time; everything from the mighty T-Rex to Napoleon, they have been subservient to evil only for them to muck it up and cause great ruin to their reigns. Banished to Antarctica, they finally find peace, but that slowly wanes to total boredom with no one to serve. 3 minions, Kevin, Stuart & Bob are sent to find a new master, where they end up in 1968 New York, during which they stay the night in a department store and watch some TV, unknowingly tuning into a secret signal advertising a villains convention in Orlando, Florida. There they find their new master, Scarlett Overkill (Sandra Bullock, in her first villainous role) who has plans to steal the crown jewels of England so she can become the new Queen of England. The minions decide to steal the crown, with a minion accidentally becoming the new king. Scarlett plots to steal them for herself, and potentially rule the world. Will the minions stop Scarlett, will they save the world and will the minions hype machine ever stop? After grossing over $330 million here in the US and over a billion dollars worldwide, its gonna trudge on full steam ahead for the foreseeable future. How did I feel about the film? Eh, its easily the worst Despicable Me film in the franchise, but its not all bad, just very mediocre in the greatest sense of the word. The biggest drawback is the main stars themselves, the minions. The minions work better as side characters due to their lack of character. Yes, they are cute and are unique, but beyond that, do they serve any purpose beyond laughs? The story is bland, the characters are poorly developed, the humor isn't up to par (even for a kids film) and the whole affair screams "cash grab" with the smallest iota of effort brought forth for the movie. At least the animation is nice and colorful, the film moves along at a nice clip to prevent boredom, but this is not one worth owning without kids in the house. Even then, I recommend something else entirely better than Minions. Luckily the PQ/AQ doesn't suffer the same fate as the movie as this is a high quality digital-to-digital transfer. The image is sharp, colorful and very detailed and is demo-worthy on a nice OLED TV. The 3D is just as detailed and colorful, with plenty of depth and some nice pop-out moments that add to the fun and is also worthy of demo-ing. The AQ is also worthy of praise, with the Dolby Atmos (7.1 Dolby TruHD core) that is excellent in every sense. Extras are surprisingly limp though with the main feature is the 3 mini-Minion movies (Also in 3D disc, but only in 2D), which are cute but nothing more. Also included is a deleted scene, an interactive map that contains several featurettes and photos, a 5-part featurette about the making the movie, a Jingle Bells minion remix video and a preview for The Secret Life of Pets, all in HD. A DVD and a digital HD copy is also included, topping off a pretty but shallow set. Overall, a mediocre movie with mediocre extras but excellent specs and terrific 3D, its worth it for demo purposes but nothing more.

Minions is a great addition to the "Despicable Me" movies, filling in what happened to the Minions before they worked for Gru. It ends with the point in time when they first meet him. While the movie is a lot of fun and the story is enjoyable, I myself rate it slightly below the Despicable Me movies. It didn't have quite as much feeling and depth that the others did, and when covering portions of the Minions past history, it felt quite rushed. Meanwhile, other parts seemed to drag a bit. While I liked it, especially in 3D, I really thought they could have done a lot better with the story than they did. Again, the 1st 2 movies with Gru were the best. (The potential of working a story of where the Minions came from, fell far short of what it could have been.) While disappointing, it was still worth seeing.

I have to be honest. I got bored watching this movie. I love the Minions in the Despicable Me movies. They add to the existing storylines and are great for comic relief, but as a stand-alone product (the producers didn't give them enough storyline to sustain my interest) They don't talk, remember? So everything they do is gibberish... that is why the point of having a better storyline is important; otherwise their little grunts and silly talk gets annoying quick. Can't wait to see them in the 3rd Despicable Movie coming out soon, but on their own - this was a disappointment. Even my boys got bored and they love the Minions.

To me, this doesn't quite measure up to the original or even the second Despicable Me. Now I understand this is focused on minions rather than the central villain character, but the premise of the movie Remains the Same - quirky characters, simple plot and humor that's targeting a wide range of ages. The movie does not disappoint but is certainly not the best in the franchise. I have to admit, I bought this movie Mostly for the 3D aspect. It is above average but on par with other despicable Me's comma and not as good as some DreamWork titles or Sammy's movies. The color pallet is bright and pops vividly on my active Samsung LED and Vivitek H1186 3D projector.

We saw this movie in the theater and decided to add it to our home collection. It was amazing...watching this movie was like being instantly transported back to the theater. We turned down the lights, I filled up a mop bucket with Coke, We gorged ourselves on greasy popcorn, someone kept kicking my chair, I had to use the restroom part way through and missed an essential scene, and my daughter started talking on her phone during the movie. But I saved a bunch of money, and my shoes don't stick to the floor like they do in the theater. I guess the movie was funny too.

A lot of people have said that they thought this movie was bad but I think they may say that because they were expecting a movie that was EXACTLY like the original Despicable Me. You need to realize that this is it's own movie. It isn't Despicable Me, it's Minions. If you understand that they're different then you'll love this movie.

Minions is fun for everyone and a thousand times over in 3D (too bad 3D is being phased out in the US as a novelty.. that's a poor excuse for poor marketing and education on the tech.) The only film of the many I own I liked more was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 in 3D. The 3D animator or cameramen etc make all the difference, this was well done. Funny.

My son loves anything with Minions. This was another that met his demand. It has 3D blu ray, blu ray, DVD, and a code for a digital copy. Unfortunately, you need iTunes for the digital copy. That is the only drawback. And when you DL the movie to a Windows 10 computer with iTunes, it will NOT playback in high definition for some reason. Only drawback. Otherwise, you can DL the movie in standard definition to any device with iTunes.

The minions first made their way into our homes in the first Despicable Me movie. The comedic relief these guys provide is unparalleled in kid friendly movies. It was only natural to make a movie based on these little guys. Although I would have liked to see more comedy in the movie, I think it was very good just the way it was. My family enjoyed this movie thoroughly. No matter if you have kids or not, this is a great buy.

It is a good movie, in 3D of course, but it's not as good as Despicable Me 2, which in my opinion was the best of the 3 movies! I miss the main characters, Gru; The girls; and Lucy, but being a prequel, they are just not there. It did cover the history of the Minions, which was never talked about in the other 2 movies. It is worth having, buy it! PLEASE Best Buy....Keep up your videos!!! I'm depending on you!!

This movie goes along with the Despicable Me series. It tells how the Minions came to be before meeting Gru and working with him. Funny movie. Good for ages 4 years to preteen and up. This movie incorporates a lot of history as it shows the minions long life. Characters are very entertaining, good movie for the whole family to enjoy. Villians are not as scary as some of the ones seen in Despicable Me 2.

Best Buy has this playing in the store every time we go in and we finally decided to buy it. So worth it if you enjoy Despicable Me and were already a fan, but even if you didn't see DM, if you like the animated comedy genre, this is a great one too add to the collection. Great animation and The story is funny. I thought the Minion speak might get a little old, but it wasn't over done.

The start of their adventures! While their meet-up with a Certain Mastermind is pretty much a foregone conclusion, it's funny to see how they've gone through time and space. I admit that though it is not as fleshed out compared to the main Despicable Me movies, it is still a fun and funny family movie. Extra laughs for the mic drop :D

This is sort of a prequel ... that is, it tells the "history" of the Minions, leading up to the point where they meet Gru, from Despicable Me. (Although Gru is only in the last few minutes of the movie. Minions is a lot of fun. It moves along fairly quickly and keeps you interested (and laughing). Not the funniest movie I've ever seen (hence the 4 stars) but certainly worth seeing.

Pros: 3D with a high level that looks impressive on my calibrated passive OLED. Dolby Atmos on a Blu, 3D itself. Even better on my calibrated 7.2.4 Digital copy. Lenticular slipcover. Cons: None.

A funny movie showing the origins of the minions. I would say it's one of the better movies in the Gru series. Started a little slow but then move real fast and got good. On the whole I would recommend this movie to anybody with kids or who Is a kid at heart, it is worth it. it is fun and is a nice movie , but you still can't understand the loveable little buggers.

The "Minions" movie should have been great--all the scenes with the little yellow fellows in Despicable Me 1+2 had me laughing uncontrollably, and the mini-movies have also been excellent./ This full length feature dragged: It did not seem to have been planned but written and produced on a "What do we do next?" basis. The best scenes were all in the previews.

The picture quality is great. I needed to find information about changing the closed captioning. The manual didn't give any information about what any of the settings were. I tried the online tech chat with not better success,. Apparently the manual was written by a person who had no idea what a TV can do besides show pictures in the default mode.

If you loved "Dispicable Me" you will love this movie as well. Who would have thought that the minions would steal the show in the first movie? It was indeed inevitable that the minions would star in the sequel. What a cute movie...it has its funny moments. The best part is you can enjoy this movie if you are 5 or 50. I love me some Minions!!
