Best out there for the money

I've used the TomTom 130 extensivelyly and while it's very good, the Mio beats it hands down. Its loaded with features you'd have to pay more than twice as much for. The test to speach feature that TomTom lacks is simply wonderful. It not only announces your turns, but tells you what street you are turning on to. It also allows you to pick multible destinations (waypoints) which TomTom lacks. Keep in mind, no GPS is perfect, but it won't get you lost. Many routes I have my own directions in mind and the Mio quickly conpensates and plots a new route for me. Some here have said that the Mio gives them a longer route and it should. Mio bases this on known speed limits and sometimes the shortest route takes longer than the fastest route. You can set a preference to always use the shortest route if you wish. Also if you don't like traveling on highways you can set Mio to avoid them if you wish. My only complaint is that, unlike TomTom, you can't update maps or software online. Mio distributes these on disc. Your first update disc is free, but you will have to purchase further annual updates. Also, unlike TomTom, you cant program the Mio from your computer which comes it very handy. you can, however charge its battery from your computer.

If you live in Brooklyn, this navigation is great! I traveled from BK to BX without a problem. I typed in an address with directions I already knew and it gave me a different route then I would normally take, which seemed more complicated. The device told me to make a U-turn on Eastern Parkway, lol. But anyway, because of the direction I was taking, the device updated quicklyyyy and proceeded to give me directions I would normally take and it was correct and even told me what side of the street my destination was. This device actually speaks what street to turn on, instead of the "turn left, turn right" mess and i luv it!

    Mio - no map updates

The price is good, and the Mio is pretty easy to use once you figure it out; however, the owners manual isn't very good. I basically had to figure things out on my own. Now that I have figured it out and stored hundreds of POIs, I really don't want to switch to a different GPS, but there have not been any new map updates since I bought it in 2007. The maps are from May of 2007, and do not include any new roads or updates since. The restaurant and store POIs that are loaded are also out of date. This is frustrating when you are looking for a Walmart but find Home Depot instead.

I like this gps system, but sometimes it feels like it takes u a longer route when it supposed to take u the shortest and quickest route. You must know the exact address if you are going to a persons house or etc, but if you are going to a resturant, then you must know the name and exact location and then look it up under poi's (points of interests) and it will let you where to go from there. It also lets you avoid those annoying toll roads if you are short of money or just don't have a i-pass.

I don't know what i used to do before gps came to the consumer population! This gps works really nice and seems to be updated with the latest maps. I have only found one error when I went to SF on a weekend. Other than that it is really a good purchase. Would definitely recommend it to other people. Watch out for the operating temperature of the device, don't leave it in the sun, battery capacity goes with it!

These units from Mio are OK as a budget entry, but ONLY if you only need it to last 11 months from DATE OF PURCHASE. Mio customer service are beyond terrible. Units bought on Black Friday will probably fail a week after the warranty expires (Date of purchase). Don't get it for a gift in 11 montyhs you will be without a GPS unit. I had 2 that both failed with problems.

this little device got me out a big jam. I was lost in N.Y. after a friend's navigator broke down. I was kind of hesitant to buy this device for the price, but it prove me wrong. It took me out of N.Y. calling out the turns so I could keep my eyes on the road. This little device is a bargain for the money you paid.

I really like this little GPS. It's small, easy to use and gets me from point a to point b without problems. I like that it speaks to you so you don't have to look down when you're driving. Overall, I am very satisfied with it."

I wanted to go to an airport, and ended up at the control tower! When I made it to the rental car return, the person there said she had the same problem with it...not the most direct route, and often confusing directions
