My girlfriend and I enjoy watching interesting movies. We both like Tim Burton Movies, I have a great collection. The story was similar to Big Fish. If you liked that movie you would most likely enjoy this one.

Bought this mostly for a friend ,Still i get to watch it too any time i visit there and its also a great 3D experience , though not so much for adults or very young children . Lets face it when you watch this in 3D you think what you see is real and a very young mind might try doing dangerous things , Magic is well mostly fake and you can't expect things to occur without knowing the actual trick . And who knows what dreams might modify this presentation ? One can only hope they are old enough to understand its special effects not reality .

Supernatural powers that you've never seen before

Imagine a home that Is filled with children that have supernatural powers like you've never seen before. We've all heard stories of vampires, witchcraft, ghosts etc. but I think this is something that we never seen before. Jake finds out after he got of work that he can't come to his grandfather house and on his way there his friend shelly saw someone with evil eyes that scare her and jacke went inside his grandfathers house and the house was breaking and entering an that his grandfather was gone. Luckily Shelly had a gun and jake was supposed to wait but he didn't. He went into the woods and saw blood and he saw his grandfather and it look like that he just been murder but as jake started to called 911 his grandfather rose up and told hi. A secret that he should of told them a long time ago and then he died. After that shelly stared to shot this monster. Three weeks later jacke started to have nightmares and he started therapy. The police thought that his grandfather died of a heart attack but jake never believe that. He saw his grandfather eyes were torn out so he knew that his grandfather did not from a heart attack. Jake and his grandfather were very close. Jake wanted to be an explorer and his grandfather told him stories when he was a little boy about monsters and a women named miss peregrine who had this home for children with supernatural powers. Jake believed that his grandfather stories were true and he accidentally showed the pictures to his class and he got in trouble. After school he gave the pictures back to his grandfather but his grandfather would never lie to him and he was sent away because they were monsters that were bad people and his family was trying to do what was his best for him. Jake and his dad started to move all of his grandfather's stuff and his dad was trying to hide something from him but jacke was not buying it. After that he had a surprise birthday and he opened a present from his grandfather and it was a book and inside was a postcard from miss peregrine. Jake really wanted to go and his therapist think it was a really good idea so his dad and jacke decided to go. Jake and his dad go on an extraordinarily adventure that they both would never forget. Jake really wanted to check the home that the children and his miss peregrine lived in so these kids that lived on the island took him there and the island was near Poland. When he got to the house he saw that it was abandoned and it was bomb in 1943 during world war 2 which was over 70 years ago. Whether his grandfather stories were true jake had to go back and find out. He lied to his dad that he was going to hang out with some friends that he found on the island but in reality he was going back to the house. The house was empty at first but then he thought he saw ghosts and they thought that jake look like his grandfather but he was not. Jake remember every kid name but they weren't dead and they knew that he was not his grandfather. After that the hotel that jake and his dad were staying at Chang and things started to moved by itself and the hotel was set on fire by a girl named Olivia. It turns out that the. Kids are living the same day of over and over again. It was then jacke found that he went though a loop and he was in the year 1943. He finally met miss peregrine that was extrodinary at math. She also knew that his grandfather was dead and she would explain everything. Jake saw that a girl named Fiona who can control plants and grew a carrot so big that it was big as a house. They he saw a girl named Bronwyn who had the strength of two men and the children never grew any older. Jake started to get to know the kids and he took a special interest in this girl named Emma who can actually fly and blow water and have super breath like superman. It's amazing and Emma already knew that his grandfather was dead. They were closed but they lost touch. Jake decided to stay for dinner and then he saw a man named enoch that bring people back to life and he could inanimate objects. The kids started to ask about the future but miss peregrine forbid it. He found out that his grandfather left because he wanted to join the army and he met someone else. One kid named Horace can project his dreams into reality. Emma did hear jake's phone ring and Emma saw his phone was different from theirs. They even took a picture together. However there was a catch they can never go in the future because they would eventually age and died. After that jacke was back home and he saw that sheep were killed and they thought that he was responsible but he wasn't. It was then his dad found out that he was lying about where he was actually going that day and when he woke up the next the flower that Emma gave him was dead. Jake was grounded but he did not listen. He went back and he found that his grandfather death was not natural. He even met a boy named victor that was dead. Emma and jake walk alone and miss peregrine saw that victor died. Jake and Emma started to swim to a skunked ship and she even blew an air bubble so he can breath underwater and then after Emma blew water everywhere and then jake could finally breath underwater without even the air bubble. Emma should him a bid that his grandfather gave her to keep safe. She told him that they were bad people after them and his grandfather tried to stop them for decades. How he did retire after jake was born. It turns out that he belonged there because he was supernatural too. At first he didn't believe it but after miss peregrine pick up a bow and arrow and killed a monster that killed victor he saw that the monster was actually invisible but jake could actually see the monster visible. Jake found out that he can see monsters and miss peregrine told him everything bit his grandfather wanted him to have a regular life and he was going to tell him everything when he was 18 but after he died when jake was 16 things changed. She told him about an experiment that envole a bird with scientists and the bird turned all the scientists into monsters. They did find a cure by killing people and eared their eyes and they were back to normal. Jake now here secret but people were after them and miss peregrine had to act quickly, They we're planning to leave. By the next he was back home and he saw a dead body that it look how his grandfather died. After that jake ran off and a man followed him that went the same loop that he did. The man was not what he seem and neither was his therapist. They were the monster that were after the children and they took jake. Everyone was ready to leave and when they opened the door the monsters were there and they had jake and they were planning to kill him and the rest of the children but miss peregrine had no choice but to sacrifice herself so she can saved them all. Miss peregrine said her goodbye to the children and lock the door. They let jake go and miss peregrine turned into a bird and they capture her. Jake was then put in the room where the kids were locked up in but it seem like the kids knew exactly what to do but then jake answer the phone and on the other end of the phone was his grandfather and he told that he was he future grandson. He hung up and the monsters started to attack the children. Jake tried to shot the monster that was trying to kill Enoch and he did but he missed killing him. However he did mange to save Enoch life. Jake help the children escape before the house was bomb. They were saved but the loop was closed and the house was gone. They decided to save miss peregrine and they started to save miss peregrine. For me the sunken coming back to life was incredible. The only way that they could save her was they had to go back to jakes original time to safe her. They knew it was risk but for miss peregrine they decided to take their chances and safe her life. This was the monster's plan after all and there were going to stop them. They went to 2016 and they were at a fair. One of the monsters was run over by a bus. They attacksd them with snow and made monsters out of them and the battle began. Everyone who was at the fair started to get scared and they left. They went back to save miss peregrine. Jake finally believe that he was supernatural. They all thought that one of the monsters drowned but it didn't. Olivia did tried to hold them off but it didn't work and the monster tried to freeze her to death. Eventually Emma would run out of breath and killed everyone but jake wouldn't let that happen. They turned another monster into a statue and broke it. Olivia almost but she was brought back to life by Horace with loves first kiss. Jake let go of the birds and they started to attacked the monsters and then he faced the man who was his therapist for 3 weeks amid soon as Emma came into the room she saw two jake but only one of them was the real one. The question is who was it. Jake can prove he is the real omen because he can see the monsters and the other one was the man who was a shapeshifter and a monster killed him. They saved miss peregrine and they were saved but they still had to go home. If they didn't go back then they would die so they no choice. Jack knew that Emma had to go back to but they knew that would be safe and they would be happy. After that jake came home and saw that his grandfather was alive and he open the book with money in it and his grandfather wanted him to go back and find them. Jake decided to go back and he found them, He told Emma how he got back. The closest loop was in the California dessert. He then traveled to A Tokyo loop and he was back in 1942 where he join the navy. Don't asked about that by the way but it didn't matter to Emma she was just happy to see him again and miss peregrine was back with them once again. There is a trilogy to this story and I'm hoping that this will continue.

This is one of those movies you want to believe was an adaptation from a book. It has all the fantasy aspects but also a story about good vs bad, morality and the human condition. I found the movie very entertaining and thoughtful. I do think it could have been a bit more but that would have required a much longer movie. Overall a good movie that is in the realm of a slightly dark fantasy. I would be remiss not to mention that the gamble for the digital copy doesn't pay off. It is not UHD but blu ray level. Hopefully studios will realize if they sell a 4k disc with digital copy, the digital copy too should be 4k to match. As far as 4k disc goes, it is better than the blu ray but just slightly. I prefer the 4k as I like the differences and detail. I don't use any effects for playback which over sharpen the movie as it diminishes it. Other than the digital copy miss, I find this to be a worthwhile purchase and BB at the time offered it at a very competitive price.

A Good Movie, If You Didn't Read The Book First!

This is a nice Tim Burton film, and the film making style shows! I actually watched the movie first before reading the book, so as a movie, I enjoyed it, especially in 3D! Afterwards, I read the book (with the creepy looking cover!) and found out Emma and Olive's peculiarities have switched! There's a lot of other things that are different, but I guess the decision to tell the story is up to Tim Burton and his screenwriters! The 3D is good, but not necessary for this movie. It's a gimmick to show off some of the visual effects. Of course, you have the choice of watching the 2D version as well (which is why I like having both the 3D and 2D in the same box, and there's not much difference in the price). Hollow City, the sequel to the book, will most likely not happen. This movie didn't make much at the box office in the U.S., but was doing pretty well overseas.

I enjoyed this movie even more because it was in 3D. The movie was interesting and adventurous. I found it to be a unique story plot and the actors (children and Adults) performed excellently and made their roles believable. I recommend this 3D movie and even in 2D it is a good movie. Make yourself some Popcorn and just relax and let your mind enjoy the movie.

Akin to Harry Potter, but different

Miss Peregrine's... is an interesting new world with a similar feel to the later Harry Potter movies. It is a bit dark, yet has some humor. I would caution parents to review it separately from younger children to evaluate if they can handle it because there are some scary parts that younger kids might find too frightening. In this story, we find the main character is able to see monsters, but no one believes him. They think his imagination is simply running away with him after listening to his grandfather's wild tales. His father takes him to England as a vacation hoping to get his son mentally well again with the change. Unbeknownst to his father, he runs off to try and find the school that his grandfather told him about only to find it destroyed from a bomb in WW2. He meets a strange girl who leads him through a portal to the school which is kept reliving a single day outside of time to keep the children safe from the monsters hunting them. His gift for being able to see the monsters which are invisible to everyone else might be the only thing that can save his new friends, but does he have the strength to do so. Again I enjoyed this world immensely. The characters are pretty good and what they can do is fun to watch during the story.

    Great disc, pretty good movie

4K Blu Ray was made for Tim Burton. HDR seems to pair nicely with his color pallettes and if nothing, this movie makes me anxious for his other works. As for this film, it is quite good. Just scary enough that older children can have fun watching it and the parents can get a bit squeamish as well. It's a very unique film with a story that, in the world of superhero movies, becomes a bit of a Justice League Dark meets the X-Men. Still, the story is well paced, does take some unique turns and is generally something that you want more of.

The overall movie has become a favorite of mine especially on 4K, this movie was my third or fourth 4K movie purchase and I definitely don't regret buying it. I still pick it up and watch it every blue moon too, although I admit I haven't read the books so speaking from the sole movie based experience it is a perfect mix of fantasy and maybe even a slight hint of sci-fi as it deals with something like superpowers or rare abilities. Honestly I wonder and hope there is a sequel as I know the book series had multiple books, and how it ended hinted that a sequel was where they were leading.

My wife and I really enjoyed this “quirky” kinda different si-fi movie ! I always like to see Samuel L. Jackson applying his trade. He does not disappoint, even playing a really different role-shows his talent. The 4-K Blu-Ray format once again shows its superiority over regular Blu-Ray 2-K, DVD, and “streaming.” For those that want THEE best to show off their great audio/video equipment, nothing is as good as a true 4-K disc. Enjoy !

It is a great movie!! Far from the usual family film stuff. A young man named Jake grows up having a closer relationship with his grandfather than his father. He loses his grandfather in a very peculiar way. While no one else in his family seems concerned with the situation Jake remains so which leads to his parents determining that he has an illness and taking him to see a therapist. After a recommendation from Jake's Shrink Jake goes on a trip with his dad to his grandfathers childhood home to get closure and learns that the stories his grand-pop told him all of his life were far from fiction and that his death was far from an accident! Its an amazing story that will keep you glued to your seat from beginning to end. Appropriate for the whole family. We watched this together and immediately purchased it. This is already becoming one of our favorites. I hope they continue the series!

A Fun, Creepy and Inspirational Movie

    |
    Posted .

I originally saw this in a drive-in, so I missed some of it the first time around; but I saw enough to make buying it a simple choice. Based on a novel of the same name, the subject matter was the perfect fare for director Tim Burton. Dark, creepy and fantastical, the characters and story are entertaining, engrossing and memorable. It might be a little too dark for small children, but older kids--around 10 or so--should be able to enjoy it without too many nightmares. (Giant faceless creatures who eat people's eyes might be a bit much for some). The extras are also quite good. The author of the original novel is featured in one of the featurettes and his involvement speaks well of the film's production. Well worth the price of admission, this is worth watching as a family, as a couple or by yourself.
