MLB the Show 18 is a vast improvement over the Show 17. Hands down. Everything looks better. The players, the stadiums, the lighting, etc. From my very first game, one of the most noticeable gameplay improvements came, when I laced a double into the gap. It was so cool to see the Center and Right Fielders attempt in vain to take the appropriate angle to the ball, only to see it land in between them and roll to the wall. This seems to happen at a more realistic clip this year. As well as bloop singles do, and balls hit down the first and third base lines. I am playing franchise mode right now and having a blast. I have not tested the new and improved Road to the Show yet, but from what I have read and seen so far, it looks to be another step in the right direction. There a couple reasons I did not give the Show 18 (5 Stars). These by no means are deal breakers, but they are a little head scratching to say the least. Reason 1: Bunting...Ugh...I am still not understanding why you are unable to move the bat freely around the zone when squaring around to bunt. It just doesn't feel like you have any control on where you bunt the ball. I am not looking for it to be easy, but at the very least, you should be able to move the bat around. Reason #2: Collision detection of baserunners and defenders. More specifically, sliding and tagging collision detection. I was disappointed to see that this is still not fixed. There a new animations for sliding and tagging, but the runners are still able to clip through the defenders body parts while sliding into a base. By now, this should be a non issue. This is not a football game, so the few times that there is a slide into a base, it should be able to look flawless. I might be nitpicking here, but it just takes away from the realism when you see your first baseman's arm cut through the runner while applying a pick off tag. Just saying. Reason #3: There are still some top players without scanned faces in the game. This I don't get at all. Case in point, (Jose Abreu), Chicago White Sox starting 1st baseman. He is one of if not the best hitter on the team, and he still has a generic face and body that look nothing like him in real life. It wouldn't be a big deal if he was a prospect just coming up, but the fact that he is a top tier player makes this very frustrating. Hoping there will be an update to fix these issues, but most likely not. That being said, the game is the best version the series has ever seen and your only true option for sim baseball again in 2018. You will enjoy it, no doubt, but there are always room for improvements.

The controls are fluid and responsive.
The presentation has been improved with the removal of certain voice and the addition of new voices.
Stealing is no longer user friendly, which means more fair online games.
Diamond Dynasty is as robust as it has ever been.

This game is hands down the best sports game on the market. From the razor sharp gameplay to the beautiful graphics, lighting, and animations.
They did a phenomenal job this year revamping all the menus, as well as other areas of the game. The fielding is the best it has ever been. They actually have some weight to them, you take one wrong misstep, and you better hope it was early enough to recover! It really makes you work the field, and every play you feel that you accomplished through your control.
The graphics have upped the bar as well. All the colors are so rich and just pop, as well as the new PBR (Physical Based Rendering) on the uniforms look fantastic. The in game ads/sponsors add more life to the stadiums, crowd dynamics is night and day better, and the lighting/fog/weather effects add so much more atmosphere to the stadiums look/feel. The broadcast presentation, player mannerisms, etc. are also better than ever.
The gameplay (pitching/hitting duel) also receives a notable upgrade all thanks to reworked ball physics which lead for a far greater and more realistic hit variety. This is definitely their best offering 'out of the box' without having to do much if any slider tweaks.
If you are a baseball fan, or a sports fan in general, this is a must own in your collection. Play Ball!

This game is great offline! Online it has plenty of issues but I'm not an online player so they don't affect me personally. The gameplay is great and Diamond Dynasty has plenty of exciting cards to play with. Immortals are hard to get unless you play non-stop, so they are a great challenge for most players.

Great game, as always. Pitching has changed from a few years ago. The game play is smooth. I love Home Run Derby. The retro feature is fun for us old timers. The mini games are great for quick games. The baby Bronx Bombers look tough. The BBDOD sale price was good for the MVP Edition.

The strength of the MLB The Show series has always been its authentic gameplay, which traditionally does a fantastic job capturing the essence of baseball. The 2018 version of The Show continues that trend, creating the most realistic baseball game to date. However, the nuanced gameplay and visual changes don’t quite make up for the lack of innovation – or removal – of MLB The Show’s core modes.

This game is a lot of fun. Very easy controls. Gives you lots of options for style of play which is nice. Not sure if the other previous versions did this, but this one gives you an estimate of how long the game will take.

This game is the reason i had to buy a ps4! Mlb 2k baseball was not cutting it on xbox back in the day so i decided to buy a ps4 with mlb the show and i ive been buying a yearly copy ever since! No other sports game captures there sport as the show does. Every thing sounds and feels like real life baseball in this game. My only minor complaint is online comp can be a little frustrating due to lag exploints but i dont play online much due to their excellent road to the show and franchise modes being so fun and fare. Highly recommended sports game!

I realize that it was the first week and the servers were being hit hard by so many people trying to get online to play, but the repeated server crashes really brought home a major gripe I have about MLB The Show: its "always online" functionality. I personally don't even play online; I like to create legendary players to make "Best of" teams from the past. So imagine my frustration when I spent an hour creating Greg Maddux only to find AFTER I clicked to save him to the Free Agent pool that the servers had gone down. I lost all of that progress. That was three days ago, and I haven't cared enough to play the game since. It's a very nice-looking game, but San Diego Studios needs to make some aspects of MLB The Show offline-capable to ease the strain on their servers and prevent users from losing progress like I did.

I've waited years for my Xbox to die so I could finally justify getting a PS4 to get this game. It did not disappoint. Graphics are awesome and gameplay is fun. I'm glad they have removed some of the microtransactions that are ruining games now. My only qualm is that the game makes it seem like you can upload your own logo for Diamond Dynasty mode but in reality you can choose a pre-created one or make one using the Clipart they have preloaded onto the game.

This game is very fun yet little has changed from the previous games in the series. Single player modes are again largely the same while online can be very hit or miss with the constant server problems. Diamond dynasty Is the mode that the developers want you to play the most and while fun it is very hard to enjoy unless you are spending actual cash on stubs to buy packs and/or individual players. If your a baseball fan this is the only sim game to go to get your fix.

This is the first time I bought the THE SHOW special ed. and iam glad I did, The game play is just as good if not better then pervious years , with graphics on the mark. Of course it has more and that's a good thing, and waiting for the mid-season sale was a plus. I do recommend this one.

MLB The Show is the reason I own a PS4 and it never lets me down year after year. I don’t think there is a better sports game out there than The Show. I would love to see a little more put into the franchise mode, but the core gameplay just gets better year after year.
