I'm not a big sports fan but for some reason I've always enjoyed baseball games since Bases Loaded on the NES. Needless to say, sports games have come along way since those days and the The Show 22 showcases some of the best graphics availble in sports games today, especially on PS5. However, there is always room for improvement as faces could be a bit more detailed and character animations still look a bit stiff on occassion. The game offers a number of play styles to make the controls as easy or as difficult as one wants. I'm looking forward to what the next installment has in store.

MLB The Show 22 for PS5 is a fantastic game! The graphics are amazing and the variety of game modes gives you options to keep playing all year round. I'm thoroughly enjoying it and highly recommend it to all baseball fans. It was also a plus that I got it on sale!

The game is not bad. It's a worthy baseball title, but there's still a lot of polish needed before it can be considered anything better than "pretty good". To start, I have owned and played MLB games since I first picked up MLB 99 on the PS1 when I made the move from Triple Play Baseball (EA Sports). As I get older, I play fewer and fewer games, but MLB seems to continue to always interest me. If you play Road to the Show, then you'll be disappointed in the fact that the game seems bent on grading your player's potential as "F". This very obviously seems to change the decision making of the team you're playing for in terms of trade value, whether to call you up a level or send you down, and in some cases, playing time versus a player with a lower rating than you who has "A" potential. Fairly annoying. There are some other annoyances as well, but that one stands out. Franchise mode so far is pretty good as well. I haven't played it a ton yet, but it feels like what I'm used to from previous iterations. Gameplay has its slop, but overall it's quite good. The baserunning is improved and irritating all at the same time. I've found my baserunners just blowing through bases well after I've let off the advance and am trying to slide in RttS/Player Lock. Using the team level baserunning control is smarter now though. When you have a runner halfway to second on a flyball, and a runner on third trying to tag up, the runner will return to first even when you press the L1 button to get the runner on third to take off for the tag. Pitching works pretty well too. The catcher suggestions for pitch locations are pretty crummy if you've actually played catcher or pitcher, or understand pitch call strategy. Calling for a fastball right down the middle of the plate on a 3-1 count probably isn't the best of all the options available to you. But you can always just ignore it anyway. Online modes are given the most attention of anything. SDS seems to want to act like MLB is Fortnite, and some of the modes are fun, but they are very arcade-like, which is not really good or bad, just an observation. I do like that you can complete experience challenges for online rewards by performing well in offline modes. Experience is experience, and I do appreciate that SDS understands that not everyone wants to spend their time playing online, but maybe still wants the ability to complete challenges for the different items to unlock. They focus on it, and I think that focus has paid off well enough. Lastly, the commentary. They finally moved on from Vasgersian, and I'm not too sad about that, but they moved on to Jon Sciambi, which is not necessarily an improvement, and the amount of repetition of the commentary is mind-numbingly noteworthy. Not bad at first, but it doesn't take long before you're probably going to consider turning the commentary volume all the way down like I did, and just listening to the sound effects and crowd noise instead. Overall, it's a good game. If you have MLB 21, I wouldn't consider this a major upgrade or worth spending full price to get. I typically buy a new MLB game every 2 or 3 seasons, which seems to be a good balance of new features and polishing. If you're still on MLB 19, I'd say it's worth the upgrade. P.S. Buy the disc version so that you actually own it.

With no competition there is no reason to innovate. Game is still good but unless you are a hardcore fan and dont own previous versions, no rush to buy.

The San Diego Padres are the best team in the league; both in the game and IRL. Make life easy and play with the Padres and rack up runs with Tatis, Machacho, and now Soto. Don't play with Dodgers. You'll be frustrated because the game's realism is too much. It likes to load the bases for Bellinger just to have him strike out 95% of the time. Or man on first with Muncy hitting into DP 85% of the time.
