The back pack is great. I purchased it 11/06 now is 12/30 my strap on the right side is coming undone. It would have 5 stars. Unless I can exchange it or something.

    New Updated Pack

I just received this yesterday, so obviously this review will be limited. After reading reviews on several sites, there were a few questions I still had about the backpack, which are the items I will be focusing on... I received the brand new updated pack - even the Mobile Edge site isn't updated with it yet. It is exactly like the new M18x backpack they are advertising - It now has two pouch pockets in the first section, instead of the ten or so cd slots. It also has designated USB and memory stick slots. Plus it now has a zipper pocket in the back area, opposite where you store your laptop. And I believe it now has thicker straps, with a rounded area around your neck (I'm not sure because none of the pictures I could find of the M17x bag really show the straps). It also has a small zipper section on the side where the attached mesh water bottle holder can store away when not in use. I wavered between getting the M18x bag and this one because a couple of reviewers said their laptop was a snug fit in the M17x bag. I have a M17x laptop and there is plenty of room for it to easily fit in this bag. My disappointments would be these: the RF-shielded cell phone pocket is very small (no way my EVO - or an iPhone - would even come close to fitting in there - it does fit in the cell phone pocket attached to the shoulder strap, although it's very tight), and that there isn't any waist or chest straps. I am a woman, about 5'4", so the shoulder straps are pretty wide on me. I know that most people that own a M17x will be men, so I don't fault them for catering to their size. It would be nice to have the straps to distribute the weight and keep the shoulder straps from falling down (I'm a backpacker, and I've owned a heavy 17" workstation laptop for years, so I'm not a stranger to hauling weight on my back - it just makes it a lot more comfortable to distribute the weight). The big bonus is that the pack fits tight against your back - some packs have a tendency to want to pull away from you - and it has nice padding. Overall, the pack seems to be very good quality and has plenty of room for accessories.

Overall, this has been a great investment for my 17.3" Toshiba laptop. However my only concern is that I do use it when traveling overseas frequently to visit friends and relatives, and with no method of securing the zippers (particularly to the center section where the laptop is stowed), it's easy when on a crowded subway or bus and you're standing, for someone else to easily access the interior of the bag without being noticed (as I found out on the Underground in London a couple of weeks ago, although they didn't manage to steal anything thanks to an alert commuter on the train). This led to me wearing the bag frontside when traveling in crowded areas. All in all though, a great investment minus the ability to secure access from the zippers.

I had this bag for about 6 months. It may be great for smaller laptops, but I have an actual Alienware and the weight of the laptop ripped the seams out of where the straps connect to the bag, which exposed the laptop to the weather.
