Customers are saying

Customers recognize the Air Mini's positive impact on air quality and its appealing design, citing ease of setup and effective odor removal as key benefits. However, some users find the device's sound level at higher settings to be excessive, and the cost of replacement filters a significant drawback. The app functionality also received mixed reviews. Overall, the purifier's effectiveness is frequently praised, but potential buyers should consider the noise and filter replacement expenses.

I love that this uses light to disinfect however it also uses filters that require refilling and that is something I am not prepared to do. The app make it easy enough to have replacement filters shipped to you but I am not searching for yet another monthly bill. As far as the noise goes it can be as quiet as a falling leaf or as loud as a hairdryer. There are settings to go in between those noise levels as well. I found level 2 the best compromise between noise and effectiveness. This unit is about the size of a small waste basket and takes up little space. I could recommend this to someone that doesn't mind the monthly cost because it does seem to clean the air and make my apartment smell better.

Pricey but effective compact air cleaner

I tested this air cleaner in my 150 sq. ft. office. I do not have access to any kind of empirical air quality testing equipment so my comments will be based on my observations and noise testing using a decibel meter. I did not receive the newer "+" model with a particulate sensor. The machine arrived in excellent, fully-recyclable packaging. It is very attractive and fits well into any decor, even the most elegant. This is important because the machine works best when it is placed near the center of the room and has open circulation. The operating instructions are clear, simple, and easy to follow. There is only one button on the top of the machine. I also found the app easy to download, install, configure and use. The noise level varies from hardly noticeable (Level 2, 40 decibels) to acceptable (Level 3, 50 decibels) to downright load (Level 5, 70 decibels). My readings using a decibel meter are higher than what is stated on the manufacturer's website. At that point, it does start to interfere with conversations or listening to meetings on my computer. As for air quality, I can say that the air does smell cleaner. The most noticeable difference, however, was that I found it easier to sleep after a day in the office using this machine. I do not know if there is a direct correlation between the air quality and my sleep quality, but that is my observation. As with anything that has a filter, the real profit for the manufacturer is in the regular "subscription" revenue so take time to find the cost of replacing the special (and proprietary) PECO filters. The manufacturer recommends replacing the filter ($75/ea.) every 6 months, so the Total Cost of Ownership of this machine, including acquisition, electricity and filter, will be close to $300/year assuming a 5-year useful life. I do recommend this product for people who suffer from allergies and need to clean the air in their home. The website claims to eliminate "RNA viruses," which by definition includes COVID-19, without directly stating that it can help combat COVID-19.

Great Air Filtration for our Bedroom

I have never had an air filtration unit in my bedroom before but man am I glad I started with the Molekule Air Mini. Setup took probably less than 30 seconds. Instructions were clear and concise. Packaging was very minimalistic. We have been using the Molekule for about 2 weeks now and I can honestly say that I think it is making a huge difference in the quality of air we breathe in when we sleep. I used to wakeup with a lot of mucus and boogers in my nose every morning and now my nose is clear and I feel well rested. We change our air filters in our home on a regular basis but have 2 dogs, so I guess the amount of particles in the air from the 4 of us needed to be filtered more. I have found that keeping this unit on the 2 setting is the best for overall use and noise. Setting 5 sounds like a jet engine. I am going to add more units around the home because I am a big believer that this product is working. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product to a friend or family member.

Good, But Fan Level 1 Makes High Pitched Noise

My wife and I both have allergies and thought it was time to try an air filter in our bedroom. I have used the Molekule Air Mini 7 days. I use it at night in our bedroom and move it to my home office during work hours. I do notice that I'm less stuffy when in a room with the filter running. It's not a huge difference, but it is noticeable. The noise level for the device is fine on the first 3 settings, but it's not bearable to be in a 250 sq ft room when running at 4 or 5. That's okay, because the reason you'd likely have it on 4 or 5 is to quickly clean a room you intend to occupy later. Level 1's air movement is quiet, but at night when there is no other noise (I live in a rural area) I can hear an annoying high pitch noise (the fan I assume). The noise isn't loud, but it's loud enough to drive us nuts. I was only able to sleep with level 1 for one night, then I switched to level 2. Level 2 is like having a small fan run at low speed, so it's not annoying, but my wife would prefer less noise. Overall, the sound is okay, but I wish level 1 didn't have that high pitch noise. Molekule offers a subscription service for the filters. I know from experience that filters don't work after a while, so if you sign up, you'll get two filters every 6 months for less then I have seen anywhere else. If the Molekule works out over time, I intend to sign up for the service, so that I keep my air clean. Conclusion: In 7 days I feel less congested in a room where the filter is running. I would prefer the lowest setting to be quieter, but those that live in less rural areas might not even notice. I would have rated the Molekule Air Mini higher if it level 1 didn't make a high pitched noise.

We're sorry to hear that your Air Mini did not meet your expectations. Unlike other air purifiers, our PECO technology will take at least 24-48 hours for the smell you've identified to dissipate during its initial use and for Air Mini to maintain your air space. Should you decide to give us another try in the future, I recommend contacting our Customer Service team if the same problem occurs.

    Hard to setup air filter

The adage of never judging a book by its cover holds true for the Molekule air cleaner. It arrives in a very well-packaged box, done up with a drawstring cover, so it definitely has the looks. In fact, the packaging was so sturdy that I was almost afraid to handle it. This is where the true product reveals itself. Setup was, and still is, confusing. The first step is to push down on the cover, and twist, in order to set up the filter assembly. With no knowledge of the unit, I was able to push and twist, but it was on the basis of trial and error as there is nothing to indicate it’s been pushed down, or twisted, nearly enough to be removed. Going forward, an audible or tactile method of feedback would be better. Once the cover was removed, I was surprised to see what amounted to the same type of air filter I would use in my truck. I only half expected a bottle of filter cleaner and oil to be included. I’m not sure what type of debris the designers are expecting to be pushed/pulled through the unit, but it’ll handle leaves, love bugs, and anything else your car engine needs to be blocked from. Placing the cover back on was the opposite of taking it off, but at least there was a satisfying ‘click’ to let me know I had twisted it far enough to lock into place. The next step was to set up the app, as it apparently has more features than the invisible button on the top. This step took forever, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s still not done. After plugging in the unit, which was the step before downloading and installing the app, a reboot of the unit needed to be done in order for the app to find the fan. I would have thought that downloading the app, and being in it, would have sufficed to locate the unit once it was plugged in and turned on. Rebooting wasn’t a cakewalk, either. Only after holding down the invisible button for much longer than what’s in the instructions do the invisible fan speed lights come on to show that the reboot is in process. Once the phone has found the fan, or vice versa, I then had to sync the network. What gets me is that it has its own network! I have to manually switch my phone to the fan’s network to control it, then switch back to run everything else in my house. Not efficient. I can’t figure out how to get the fan to sync with my home network, despite the invisible Wifi LED glowing green, either. All of the installation aside, operation is what you’d expect of an air filter. Tapping the invisible button changes the speed quite a bit, and it illuminates the appropriate invisible LED to show the selected speed. Currently I have it on only the 2nd level, which to me sounds like a quietly running dishwasher. My wife disagrees, but I don’t know what she thinks it sounds like. More taps means more speed, and it will definitely move some air. However, the ambient noise also increases in alignment. There is a blue glow from the air’s exit; I haven’t looked at night to see if there’s actually a glow, or if it can only be seen by peering through the vents. Beyond that, I’m not sure if I can tell a difference or not. I haven't immediately noticed a difference in the quality of air, but I would anticipate it may take some time before noticing anything. Overall, this is an air filter. It’s a highly technical, probably significantly over-complicated air filter, but an air filter nonetheless. Plug it in, set the speed, and it’ll make noise. Done. If the setup process wasn’t so involved or so inefficient, I’d be more of a…fan, but that alone is enough to give this the ol’ thumbs-down.

I placed this device in my home office where I work long hours and where I am looking for the benefits of purified air. The unit has five speeds - I keep the unit on the lowest speed which is barely audible (a bit of white noise if anything). I don't have a need for the highest speed which seems to move quite a lot of air - and which is fairly noisy. Am looking forward to how this works next Winter when the furnace is running - and kicking up dust.

The first impressions after opening this is one of quality construction. The unit features a minimalist design aesthetic that should fit well into any home. It is heavy and solidly built, and features a cylindrical pleated filter. The unit features five fan speeds. 1 is nearly silent. 2 is whisper quiet. 3 is very noticeable. 4 sounds like you are in an airplane. 5 sounds like you are behind the airplane while it is taking off. So the vast majority of people will stick to speeds 1-3, with higher speeds for locations where noise is not a factor. The filter inside features DRM! Yes, you can only replace it with filters straight from Molekule. They are also listed as $75 each, but they are SUPPOSED to last 6 months, which is not terible (I have not had the unit long enough to test this out). After the filter is "used up" the unit will refuse to turn on and flash a red light at you. Most air filters use a washable pre-filter to keep out the larger particles of dust and hair, and leaves the replaceable filter to deal with the smaller stuff. This extends the life of the expensive filter, saving you money. The Molekule does not do this. There is one filter to do everything. Perhaps this is because of their use of UV light to kill the nasties. The unit has a series of UV-A lights which sit in the middle of the filters. When it is completely black, you can see the light leaking out. Now, UV-A does not have any germ-killing capabilities (you need UV-C for that), but Molekule claims that there is a catalyst in the filter that, when combined with the UV-A, will kill germs. I have no way to verify this, so I have to take their word. Indeed, the inside of the filter is white as you would expect, but the outside is a charcoal black color. Perhaps this use of the catalyst explains why the filters are expensive. The premise is that a virus, bacteria, or mold spore gets stuck on the filter and then killed. Clever, but standard HEPA filters work by just trapping them in the filter, where they are not allowed to pass. I cannot judge how killing them adds any advantage over just trapping them, but that is what this claims to do. So, to summarize. The unit is expensive to buy and filters are expensive to replace, but certainly seems to do what it claims, and look good while doing it.

    Molekule Air Mini

The Molekule Air Mini was well packaged. Setup was a breeze and it started running immediately. It is very quiet on the low setting. Unless there is a lot of stuff in the air, there is probably not a reason to turn it to a higher setting, which gets louder (like most fans). After installation, I left the room and didn't return for about an hour and a half. It smelled SO much cleaner than before. The funny thing is, the room I initially installed it in wasn't particularly smelly. I did not know until the next day that there is an app to control it from my phone. The app is very simple to use, and the device responds almost instantaneously. The filters are supposed to last for approximately 6 months.

I have no scientific way to measure air quality or if this is really helping but I got this for my toddler's room and I can tell that is working. The filter it comes with is supposed to last 6 months and you can monitor this by the app connected to the device. It does have a clean smell that emits from it and you can see a UV light inside however not bright enough to keep kids awake at night. There is no ozone produced like other air purifiers but it does use a similar process. This process kills all mold, viruses and bacteria which in this pandemic, is a blessing. The filter alone should be pulling dust and particles out of the air too. Overall, it's pretty expensive but the technology is very impressive.

This is my first go around with an air purifier. In part because I don't know the extent to which I buy into the air purification process. Nonetheless, we have a damp basement with a previous history of mold/mildew in close proximity to a sewing room. While I believe the situation to be under control, it doesn't change the fact that it is a basement, we have a sump pump, basements usually have an odor or general unpleasantness about the air, etc. and my wife spends 50% of her day down there and expresses concern about funk, dust and the moisture where the pipes exit the house to the septic field. The Molekule Mini seemed like the perfect solution to address her concerns in her enclosed 11x13 room. The device itself stands about a foot high and is about 8-9" in diameter. It has decent weight (around 7 lbs) and isn't easily knocked over. It is "stylish" in that it doesn't stick out but at the same time, it is fairly large and awkward looking on an end table, in my opinion. Molekule recommends you run it on an elevated surface for best results. Fortunately, we are putting this in a room where it won't be seen by anyone other than us. The product claims to be ideal for up to 250 square feet. Given our room is in the 130 range, it is the ideal capacity for our filtering/purification needs. Speaking of purification... All I can do is trust the science/math/claims behind the research and efficiency of the product. We do not smoke, we did not have an identifiable odor (i.e. cat box, sewage, etc.) to address--more of a "general air quality" concern that, on paper, this device should assist with. My wife claims that constant running at the lowest (audibly unnoticeable) setting has made the room fresher. I noticed I don't smell the lingering air freshener scents that had "baked into the room" over the years. As noted in the packaging, there is an operational odor during the first 24-48 hours that dissipates to nothing. There are 5 fan settings. As mentioned, the lowest is inaudible. Setting 2 is barely noticeable and easily covered by the sound of her sewing machine or music. I think the fan in her laptop is louder than the fan in the Molekule at setting 2. Setting 3, 4, and 5 ramp up the speed/noise factor but never to a level that is unpleasant. I suspect that at 5 I would want to place it as far away from me as possible, but I think I would still be able to hear a television OK at a reasonable volume. Operation is easy. Unpacking was a breeze. Simply untwist the canister cover, remove the filter from its plastic bag (or insert a new filter), twist the cover back in and push the single operation button atop the device to turn it on--then press again to increase the fan to the level you want. Maintenance will be easy but as of now I have no basis to speak to how often the filter will need to be replaced (6 months per manufacturer). The base stores the cord and is designed for you to release only as much cord as you need to reach the wall. Overall cord length? I am guessing around 4.5 feet. There are no visible, constantly glowing components that would interrupt sleep or otherwise illuminate a darkened room. My only concerns moving forward with this device will be filter life, filter cost and operational costs. Molekule seems to have "done the science and research" and consequently that may be why this air purifier tips the more costly end of the scale when compared to other Google searches for air purifiers. I also question why, at its MSRP, it isn't wifi/app compatible. Consequently, I would prefer to rate this product as a 4.5 but those are preferences rather than flaws. Nonetheless, the Molekule Mini is quiet, unobtrusive, and meets our needs and concerns in an enclosed, basement room. It gives us the peace of mind that we have taken substantial steps to ensuring air quality in a room that may pose health concerns.

Only using 5 days now since I received it. I don't have central air only window mounted AC that why I need this. In bedroom 13x21 when you walk in bedroom you notice right away the difference in the air compared to other rooms in the house you can sense and feel the freshness and all odors completely gone and no dust accumulation. I have the unit on mid speed very quiet if you put it on highest speed a little noisy but no big deal. I have it on dresser 30 inches off the floor. The noticeable difference in the air is well worth it. The filters are a little pricey but should only have to change once every six months.
