Extraordinary, powerful, movie. That brings true meaning to action packed, big Willie movies. The visuals are second, to none. I just can’t wait to buy a second copy as a contingency to any situations.

I feel that this movie is one of the best of releases of 2021 for home video. In most action movies, the focus is on action and not characters. The movie has put an emphasis on the characters and I like that. Milla Jovovich leads her squad on a mission to find another squad of soldiers who have turned up missing. I feel that her character is strong but still feminine and she portrays a good leader for the men in her unit. I also enjoyed the way the movie shows the camaraderie between the member of the unit. The movie doesn't give a whole of background for each member of her squad, but you do feel a bit saddened when a character loses their life.
The computer effects are top notch. I was extremely impressed with some of the realism that they presented in the movie. The best part of the movie is the sound. If you don't have DTS:X/Dolby Atmos setup you are missing out. The movie is loud, but it is the little effects that make this movie stand out. There is this scene where Milla Jovovich and another character called the Hunter who rescues her and they are held up in his cave like structure. There are giant spiders trying to get in and the movie lets you see them. The movie then pans to Milla and the hunter inside his cave, but you still hear the spiders trying to get in from the top of his cave. They are picking at the rock and all that sound is coming from your Atmos speakers. It is one of the coolest uses of object based sound placement I have heard. There are other scenes similar to this but this is my favorite. I will say it again, if you don't have an DTS:X/Atmos setup your missing out with the amount of sound movie places in the height speakers. A lot of movies will claim Atmos and have very little use for the height speakers. This movie uses them a lot.
I totally enjoyed this movie and have watched it about 10 times and never get tired. I am still listening for things that I might have missed in the movie soundtrack.
If you have the appropriate system this is a movie to demo to friends and family. Another huge note: This movie is family friendly. There are some scary scenes but it contains very little profanity and no nudity. I know that is a downer for some people. lol.
My setup:
4 compact speakers for Atmos purchased from Monoprice I have them playing at 120 Hz and higher.
DefTech Cinema 5.1 with 250watt sub. (Best Buy)
Atlantic Technology 250.1 150 watt sub
Onkyo TX NR 797 9.2 channel receiver (Best buy) Da Bomb!!!!!
Epson 2150 1080p projector (Best Buy) with mCable Cinema (I will not need to purchase a 4K projector)
132 in Projecto Screen (nothing spectacular)
I rip the movie without compression to a server with all soundtracks included and use Kodi to organize everything.
24 Terabyte Synology DS920+ NAS (network attached storage which is accessible via Kodi). I can access any of over 600 movies within a second.
This system has been many, many years in the making. The only must have upgrade is the subwoofers. I want two THX certified Monoprice 500 Watt subs. The subs will make the system sound extra mean with extra tight base. I live in an apartment, and must manage my sound. I live in an older building so the dampning is better than the newer buildings that they put up in 5 minutes and charge a arm, leg and a private part for rent.
I also want to upgrade the screen for better brightness and contrast.
I don't classify myself as audiophile but a techie.
Happy movie watching!!!

A great Sci-Fi movie to watch, going to the past and then trying to get back to the present. Great action and suspense throughout.

Milla Jovovich continues to impress with the movies she is in. This one is an excellent example of her ability to really sell the movie's concept.

There is only one proper way for watching a Paul W.S. Anderson movie, and that is to set all expectations aside and simply enjoy the mindless, popcorn silliness. Based on the video game series of the same name, Monster Hunter not only demonstrates he has made a career at B-quality escapism, but that he is also decently good at churning out surprisingly entertaining shlock, especially when framing action vehicles for Milla Jovovich. The entertainingly bonkers adaptation teleports to Ultra HD equipped with a monstrously gorgeous 4K HDR10 presentation and thunderously awesome Dolby Atmos soundtrack, offering fans and the curious a notable upgrade over its Blu-ray counterpart. Porting over the same puny set of supplements, the UHD package is nonetheless recommended.

Cool Monster Action

This movie is full of cool monster action. I'm somewhat familiar with the Monster Hunter games but I've never played one before. So I wasn't sure what to expect watching this. The characters are likeable enough for what's going on throughout the movie. The action scenes are very cool. And there are quite a lot of them. There're a few moments that fans of the game series will appreciate. If you aren't aware of them then you may be confused or just find it odd or funny. I hope if we get a sequel they will add in a little more campiness. The few campy moments we got in this mostly fast paced action movie were some of my favorite parts.
Overall I found the movie to be an enjoyable popcorn flick. I'd recommend this to fans of the Monster Hunter series, those who like monster films, and any action movie junkies. 4 out of 5 stars

First off, I strongly recommend against watching any movie based off a videogame/anime/book if you are expecting the story you already know. Why watch something when you already know everything that's going to happen? They have to change things up to keep it interesting!
That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Sure, there was some things they messed up...like the Rathalos' (It's not a spoiler...it's right there on the box!) weakness and such. But I liked the attention to detail in other things like them using traps and other monsters poison against bigger threats. Plus, it was very cool to see how modern military would stand against a monster threat!
The only gripe I would have would be them casting Ron Perlman as the Admiral. They could've got some less known actor and saved money with the snore inducing performance he gave. He had very few speaking lines and his action bits were the least impressive out of the entire movie with the coolest things he does being entirely special effects.
Aside from that poor casting choice, I think Milla Jovovich followed through with her usual action movie performances, and Tony Jaa is still a thrill to watch thanks to his actual background with Muay Thai fighting.
In closing, I'm rating this movie 5/5 because I enjoyed it, not because it's perfect. Don't go in expecting to see the game you likely already know, this story is about a modern soldier being sent into a small portion of that world, not exploring the entire world itself.

A good start to what could be a great ongoing series of films.
Being a Monster Hunter fan and playing the games, I was a little disappointed in the lack of monsters in the movie as well as the environments. It was only until the last 20 minutes that the movie changed scenes and went to the lush jungle environment.
Moving forward I think the producers could really play off the game in creating a unique and vast environment. They could also play off the various encounters of all the other monsters in the series and maybe even incorporate some monster vs monster scenarios. The potential for a Monster Hunter series is limitless just needs to be planned and executed properly.
Definitely worth watching, not necessarily worth buying unless you snag it on sale for 9.99-14.99 at most.

This movie is based on a video game. <- I had to start with that because, ehh. Most game-to-movie movies are OK. Paul W. S. Anderson loves Milla Jovovich (same director and actress in the Resident Evil movie series, which is also a game-to-movie).
It has tons of action and a bunch of scenes that bring to the edge of your seat. But the acting is blah. Poorly written scripts that make you think, "They actually thought that was a good idea to keep that in there? I'm sure I could have written something better!" Haha! Other than that, it has great visuals (especially in 4K) and great sound. They also did set up the ending to have a sequel, which *might* happen in like 3 years or so.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable movie and is real eye and ear candy for those with a good quality setup to watch it on. This is the kind of enjoyable movie that will likely be watched multiple times over the years and is akin to some of those similar movies that did OK at the box office but keeps selling and selling for home. Starship Troopers, The Fifth Element and Stargate are just a few that come to mind. These are movies that are fun to watch, do not require a lot of attention to get the meaning and seem to not get old. I saw this in the theater and yet it was just as entertaining at home. Worth the money.

I am someone who saw this in theaters with 0 expectations of enjoying this movie. Overall this was a good movie. It was definitely a good Monster Hunter movie. It's got pretty much anything you would expect a Monster Hunter movie to have. The monsters are vicious, deadly, and at times downright scary.
Don't go into this expecting some epic story or a 1:1 translation of the game with all mechanics featured in some way. Cause
1: the story in Monster Hunter games are bare bones at best.
2: Do you really think anyone take a hit from a charging Diablos and be fine?
3: Chocolate.

This is not your average, let's make a few bucks by placating the fans with cheap special effects, video game movie. The creators of this movie really put the time into making entry into this world uncomfortable, creepy, a bit non-linear, and lacked respect for keeping cool characters alive. I really liked this movie and found it a bit unconventional a fresh. The monster are horrifying. These are not kid monster that easily fall to an oversized sword. These things are deadly in every sense of deadly. People are definitely at the bottom of the food chain.
Overall, I really liked this movie. Monster Hunter has the beginning of a fun, exciting, and scary trilogy. I don't much about the game but I really hope the director gets the opportunity to complete this series.

It's bad but in that good way that only certain movies can achieve. Milla brings her normal dedication to the role that is usually reserved for zombies. The pacing is horrible though and feels like they spent most of the time in the desert just to save on production costs for the green-screened jungle scenes. Watch it, have fun, and just laugh at the silliness. Oh, and Milla and company do not need to sing military jodies ever again.
