Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with Monster Hunter Rise's engaging gameplay, ease of use, and the variety of monsters. Many found the new movement options and overall performance to be excellent, praising its accessibility for newcomers while still offering a substantial amount of content. However, some players felt the game lacked challenge compared to previous entries and that the world size was smaller than in other titles. Despite this, the positive feedback on the improved accessibility and enjoyable features outweighs the negative comments.

Okay so I wasn't sure what to expect from this since Monster Hunter World struggled on base consoles (at launch anyway they had performance problems). But here we are on a 30watt handheld and it runs really well and looks great. (yes it's not 4k, yes, I don't care, I'm referring to art design and the capabilities of the system. The RE engine really makes a big difference because some things (like special effects) look better here. Seems to be something the engine does well naturally. I have no idea how they crammed all this onto the Switch, it's one of the most impressive games on the handheld period. I loved World & Iceborne, LOVED it. Beat every monster the game had including Fatalis and this game improves on so many things. Rise has more monster variety, more weapons styles/looks, more armor looks/styles, better mobility, more attack moves, more options for your weapons with Switch-Skills & wirebug abilities. There's a lot of returning faces here but more from the older games so they got a big visual update & attack set. So, how does it handle online because Nintendo is notoriously bad with their online infrastructure. Well, I've gotten to HR7 and have had a total of one disconnect & getting connected with friends is really easy. You make a lobby, friends can join by finding you in the friends list and boom, in. Set a passcode or whatever. We've seen a few little hiccups with latency (monster sliding) but nothing that was "Oh Nintendo, you and your dodgy online". I can't comment on hooking up with strangers, that's not something I do with MH really. There's ONE new thing people might not like. There's active-tower defense missions. It's active because you can fight with your weapons & you man various turret types, but you also have to set them in set spots & choose if they're manned/auto or not. Mounting monsters is a huge deal in this (as is the whole game) so you can really slap around other monsters easier. There's the dragonator to use, a wyvern nuke etc, there's a LOT to do during these and they're chaotic for sure & it's deeper than you might expect, but it might not be your cup of tea. THE BIGGEST FIX FOR RISE OVER WORLD: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Co-op is VASTLY, BETTER. In World you'd be stopped from playing with friends at every turn because you'd have to go into the stage by yourself then find the monster to see an unskippable cutscene and they just kept, doing it. Even in iceborne they doubled down. In Rise? You can join any mission, even if you're a rank or two too low. The only time I was denied when I was in low-rank trying to join my friends high-rank mission. But after that? I was HR5, he booted up an HR6 mission and, yup. Got right in, got rewards and when I hit HR6 the mission was already counted as complete. THANK, YOU. I think the furthest apart has been 2 hunter ranks that I've tried and it worked fine. Also if you're looking for a deep story with characters & what not? The story exists, that's about all I can say. There's not a lot going on. There's too much to talk about here and I'm only HR7 and I'm sure there's plenty more for me to go. Look if you're on the wall about this, not sure if the Switch will be able to handle it or it'll be a step back: I don't think I can name anything besides the resolution that's a step back from World. Yes 30fps is a bit of a shame- especially if you're on PC with a 144hz monitor- but the game looks great, runs solid and has more than world did. I, love, this game.

This is an amazing monster hunter addition to the series. It carries over concepts from monster Hunter World while bringing its own new flavor of mechanics i found to be fun! Much like its predecessors, its not an easy game but with much practice its tons of fun. Been playing with friends and im happy I grabbed a copy!

Rise has been pretty fun so far, Ive been playing since release, I am in the late game High Rank so far, havent quite finished it yet, but from what Ive seen; the gameplay is solid, using the new wirebug mechanic feels so much more natural and sensible during hunts than the clutch claw in world to force knock downs. the wirebug mechanic also has drastically influenced in a postive way the way I play bow for example. the random monster riding to cause beatdowns are very fun when you can trigger them, much more exciting than mashing a button to build up damage on knock downs like in world. there are plenty of new monsters that are interesting with different fighting patterns and plenty big hitters coming back. I am enjoying the hunts plenty so far the food menu in rise is also better than in world, its much less confusing and you actually do want to look through the effects for what you need for the situation. in world I only grabbed the holiday plate or chef because to utilize the food skills was not worth the effort of crawling through the menu. The game framerate is also well optimized for switch, its very steady, and I havent seen the game stutter using it in docked mode. Graphically, i'm impressed this game runs on switch as well as it does. it does look a little worse when you dock it and play on a large screen, but it looks perfectly acceptable on my 28" monitor, and especially on the switch screen. I do think the maps in this game dont feel as expansive as the ones in world, which is arguably good. if youve played world, without scout flies you would just get lost in more than just one or 2 areas, especially the forest area in world. they make up for this with the wirebug mechanic as you can traverse terrain that does not look traversable at all. Overall, the game is exciting, and Im more of a pc gamer, but have enjoyed the experience of this game on switch. Id recommend this.

Great game. Not as big a world as, well, Monster Hunter World, but still very impressive. Also impressive are the graphics for the Switch. One of if not the best looking game on the console. It can’t do as much as MH World, but makes up for it in other ways. The wire travel and wire saves are great features. It’s also probably the best multiplayer experience on the Switch. I know the bar is low there but it’s great, other than the lack of voice chat, of course. A great game that anyone, not just Monster Hunter fans should get.

Another solid entry in the Monster Hunter series. New ans returning monsters make for exciting and interesting fights, and content updates are already planned for the near future. The wirebug mechanics provide a faster flow to the fights and give visually and mechanically interesting new moves to every weapon.

Much easier than World, until end game. Some of the changes are welcomed, like armor sets coming with maxed skills for some, while requiring RNG for your pendant is an odd change. Hated the new Rampage mode, which is their new Tower Defense game, but it was very much welcomed at end game due to the rewards. Mutliplayer makes the game easy to breeze through, but makes it very difficult at the end as most people who breezed through arent ready for the challenges. Make sure to connect via Discord as well. Sad that voice chat isn't here for a game like this. But, like all other games in the franchise, BUY.

This is by far one of the best portable monster hunter games in the series. It takes many notes from it's big brother Monster Hunter World. The friend maps are open and aren't separated into smaller areas and there's a good variety. The movement is great. The wirebug adds a lot of verticality and makes getting to hard to reach areas easier. The gameplay feels fast and fluid; each weapon feels different and not too similar. With two handed weapons the attacks feel weighty but not too slow to make them unusable against a faster monster. The graphics are amazing. This is one of the best looking games on the switch hands down. If you've ever played a monster hunter game or played monster hunter world I would 100% recommend this game. It's absolutely fantastic

Monster Hunter Rise is the latest game, as of this review, to the Monster Hunter series. You are a hunter living in Kamura Village and you are tasked to investigate and stop a hoard of monsters from invading the village with the selection of fourteen weapon types. You can complete the solo quests where the difficulty is reduced for a more comfy gameplay. Or you can challenge yourself by completing hunting quests in the Guild Hall which is more suitable for multiplayer (Nintendo Online req.) Like always, you will get more than the price you purchased. The developers will constantly release more FREE contents over the course of one to a year and a half. If

Its a good introduction to the Monster Hunter series for new players and an enjoyable game for old players with some fun new mechanics like wirebugs and Palamutes. A great move back to a portable system from Monster Hunter World and impressive graphics for the Switch. The multiplayer is easy to hop into as well. If you're into endless boss fights and crafting armor then this will be a good fit for you. If you're looking for a deep story with fleshed out characters I'd look somewhere else. It is fun to learn the behavior of each monster and explore different ecosystems though.

Best Monster Hunter game by a land slide in my opinion Movement is phenomenal, all the new monsters fell fresh and are so dang cool, the returning monster pick so far is amazing with even more monsters to be added in the future. And an absolute banger sound track. Haven’t even put a large fraction of the time I’m gonna end up putting into this game by the end. 10/10 would reccomend.

Combat is incredibly fluid in this iteration of Monster hunter. The new movement options are incredibly fun to mess around with, and will make you want to explore just to use them. My only complaint is all the new tools we recieved makes the monsters feel not as difficult as they used to be, but there's patches coming down the line, so we'll see how the content improves from there.

Fantastic game. 10/10 This is the most accessible and easiest to play Monster Hunter game thus far. With so many different weapon types you can find enjoyment in one way or another. If you feel like it's getting stale, you can try a new weapon and bam it feels great. I'm in love with this especially playing multiplayer with some friends. Highly highly recommend.

Monster Hunter Rise is probably one of the best killer apps for the Switch and you are doing yourself a disservice by not playing it. The game can be a bit difficult for newcomers, but with some time and practice it's nothing that anyone can't handle. A pleasure to play all throughout from beginning to end.
