Very different from the other Monster Hunter titles, but just what I was looking for. There's a demo on the eShop that I really recommend trying before you buy, though.

    Egg Hunt

A spin off of the mainstream Monster Hunter. I liked how you can gather eggs to hatch monsters (the eggs have patterns to tell you what kind of monster you are hatching), and also have the ability to create stronger ones by messing with their genes. The fighting system is pretty simple and is basically a rock/paper/scissor game. I haven't messed with the online, but you can challenge other people to battles. The monster field abilities are similar to HM moves on Pokemon, but don't take up any slots on the monster. You can try the demo which is the beginning of the game, and transfers everything over to the full game. Careful though because I don't think there's a level cap in the demo, so you could be way over leveled when you transfer the game.

This is not the normal MH game. This is more like a Pokémon game. I preferred this one to others, so if the others weren’t your cup of tea this is worth a try.

This is a neat game overall. The art style is nice to look at and there's a fairly large world to explore and find items and more monsters to collect. The actual monster battling is pretty simple, so it can wear thin over the course of this lengthy game, but it doesn't ruin things. You also don't need to know anything about the Monster Hunter series to enjoy this game.

I am an avid Monster Hunter fan, as I love the series with a passion. I recently stumbled upon this game in the Nintendo 3DS store, where I downloaded the demo and played it for about 9 hours. It was fun, so I bought the game. It started out fun and interesting - you can steal monster eggs and hatch them to raise as your own army of monsters; it was almost a Pokemon version of Monster Hunter. Well, eventually it got old, between stealing eggs only to receive the same monsters over and over, and then when I get a seemingly good monster, I then have to spend a lot of time to grind out experience for it to even make it usable on my team. I found I was stuck with the same monsters for a long time, and it grew dull. Also, the armor crafting is SUPER simplified, as well as the fighting. Like I said, this game is GREAT for children, but not very stimulating for adults or true Monster Hunter fans. The graphics are adorable and charming, and those alone have kept me playing the game as long as I have. The story-line is okay, but nothing to write home about. If I was to give this game a score out of 100, I would say about a 75/100. But, please, don't let me deter you from purchasing this game. It is fun, just far too casual for me. If you're a fan of more low intensity games or are/have a child that likes things of this nature, I would rate this game a 9/10.

I had to buy this game after testing out the demo for it. It is an amazing game focused on the anime story line. Its a interesting mix of traditional monster hunter tactics as well as rpg systems. I felt it was a great mix and look forward to finishing it.

I’ve put at least thirty hours into this game and the end is still very far off. It’s a Pokémon Raquel type of system where you battle and collect monsters, with easy to understand battle mechanics. Plus, the art style is super cute.

Its a interesting take on the tried and true format of pokemon. With what monsters you get being up to chance is the only bad thing.

Monster Hunter Stories may have a more casual look than its mainline series, but don’t let that deter your purchase. It’s a robust JRPG with a charming story and a vivid art style. A solid game for seasoned and casual players.

MH Stories is an offshoot of Capcom's popular action RPG series that alters the core gameplay formula while maintaining the addictive reward loop and charm that makes Monster Hunter such a successful phenomenon. Stories is an attempt to open the MH world up to a much younger audience. The need for careful planning is largely gone, and the punishing-but-fair action combat has been replaced by a more forgiving turn based system with a simple rock-paper-scissors base. Monster Hunter's signature beasts have always been full of character, but Stories' revised cute aesthetic makes them all that much more endearing. Monsters are a joy to collect and train. With weapon and armor collecting and upgrading added to the mix, MH Stories puts some interesting twists on the classic Pokemon formula.
