I can only get about 40-50% of charge in my phone with this and that’s a lot of extra weight for not very much battery.

Not so much for giving you extra juice. I notice it overheats and it won’t charge past your current phones charge if you are charging it via Qi charging or wire charging but it’s good for emergencies
