    Awesome Value for the Money

I bought this item on 3/25/19: Motorola - Moto E5 Play with 16GB Memory Cell Phone (Unlocked) - Black. Although the specs on this phone arent the highest possible, I am super satisfied with it since I dont do much on cell phones anyway. I just call, text, and surf the web. I have used the 3rd generation (g3) and 4th generation (e4) as well, and know motorola is an awesome brand! the sound quality and lack of bloatware are great features of their products! at $130, its a superb value for the money. it has everything i need and nothing i dont. correct me if im wrong. but this is the cheapest smartphone there is that has acceotable specs. i was thinking of an asus zenfone for 120 dollars. but it has only 1 gb ram and the customer rating was only 3.5. so id have regretted purchasing that phone. btw i dont care that it doesnt have a fingerprint reader since no one else will use this phone. i dont need to worry about it getting lost or stolen since its always on me. overall this motorola moto e5 play is awesome!!!

this entry level unlocked smart phone is a great value. loyal moto phone owner of several models: G4 play, G5+, X4, G6. PLUSES- decent 720hd screen display. moto actions- (Facedown= DND mode, pickup= mute ringing, 3 finger press=screenshot). minimal bloatware. front LED camera flash. MINUSES- low 16gb memory. mediocre camera performance (8mp, 5mp quality). no fingerprint sensor like in other 'prepaid MVNO' models. out of date security version. stuck on Android 8.0, no further updates. OVERALL this E5 play is a great 1st smart phone for kids and mature adults. Good backup phone for GSM service carriers.

decent simple phone, good for the $$$

Can't expect too much at this price, but this is a good, simple phone. Got this as a temp phone while my other phone was being repaired. Everything worked fine, clean Android OS was great. The camera was pretty meh and the build feels cheap, but again, what can you expect at the price point? If you can afford to upgrade to a Moto G6 or Moto G6 play (Moto Forge if you're on Cricket), it's probably worth the extra cash. But if you just want the cheapest possible smartphone that is still usable, this phone works.

With my very basic requirements (...phone, text, email & limited internet search/research) this is quite a step UP from an old Windows based phone I've used for years. Speed and features seem topnotch to me & battery capacity means going a couple of days (at least) without having to charge. I have a habit of putting the phone in my back pocket & I've noticed that sliding the screen over Velcro there has scratched it slightly...kinda surprised at that. Also, I've lost my data connection once & had to reboot to fix...but, every "computer" I've ever owned and used has required an occasional reboot! I LIKE the E5 Play.

    Good phone, great battery life

    Posted .

I needed a quick and cheap replacement for another phone that went bad. Got this as it was in stock at the local best buy. Phone has exceeded my expectations. Didn't come preloaded with a bunch of aps or programs taking up memory. I mainly use it for texting, email, social aps, and navigation. Plenty fast and no issues. Battery life is very good and I was suprised that it lasts a full 2 days before I have to charge again. This is with only an hour or two a day of use (checking email, browsing web, streaming music). Comes with a fast charger which will get the battery mostly charged up in only an hour or two. As another reviewer mentioned, the description is wrong. This DOES NOT have a fingerprint scanner. I was expecting it to, and disappointed that the description was incorrect, but I would have bought it anyway.

Hi Bri80, we know this is kind of confusing, but let me help. Fingerprint Reader is available on certain models, including models from Verizon and Comcast. Fingerprint Reader is not available on certain models, including models from Sprint, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, Cricket, and the GSM-Unlocked model sold on Motorola.com. Please check with your seller for more info. -Jhei MotorolaMobility

    Solid build, lazy programming

    |
    Posted .

This phone has a solid feel of construction to it. I really hate phones, tablets, laptops, etc that are SO thin and flimsy they'd bend in a gentle breeze. This has a removable battery, microSD slot, headphone jack, and all the other things your typical Apple product has long forsaken. This has just enough weight to it to feel comfortable. Now the downside. Seems the folks at Motorola have forgotten how to code. My previous phones (Moto Droid Razr HD, Casio C721) were able to do voice dialing through my bluetooth headset entirely on their own. THIS unit needs to use some bloated Google app that insists on being wide open in it's full Snoop-On-Me/Hack-Me mode, and likely demands to have Mobile Data always on (I have mobile data disabled 99.9999% of the time). There's no excuse to remove standalone voice dialing capability. Also, if you use a third-party Launcher, various built-in apps will not be seen OR accessible. So you are stuck using the Moto Launcher (I've grown to prefer the Microsoft Launcher on all my Android devices).

I bought 3 of these for my kids and I must say it's awesome. Battery is great and the phone is strong. My 5 year old washed her phone because she says it was dirty! Still works. My other child stomp and throws it all over the place and there are still no crocks or scratches. I would buy again. Motorola phones are never a disappointment.

This being a basic phone it has all what you need for a simple user, email, online browsing, WhatsApp, etc. The only thing is that it has a removable battery, so at some point I guess it will expire and will need a replacement, if compared with internal batteries they last longer.

Not quite a major upgrade from Moto E4

    |
    Posted .

Was very happy with an earlier model, the Moto E4. But the screen shattered making it still usable, but hard and dangerous to use. I’ve only switched my SIM card and phones for less than a week...but it’s not quite a “new and improved” model, so far....I probably would have purchased another E4 if it was still available. However, grateful that Best Buy usually offers older models along the newest ones, for a comparatively lower prices.

Entry Level Smart Phone does the job

    |
    Posted .

I got this phone to use for my business line. I already had an iPhone and was not looking to get another do everything primary smart phone. This phone feels light and has a plastic feeling back. But it is sturdy. Everything about the device looks good, works, and is perfectly suited for my needs. If you are looking to get a smart phone without spending a lot of money, I think this is a good choice. No complaints.

Have always purchased a Motorola E phone as a "starter" phone for our kids. Reliable. Good features. Minimal bloat. The price is definitely right. Nothing fancy and I know that Android updates are slow or non-existent, but they'll want to upgrade their phone after a couple years, anyway.
