Positive feedback also highlights its ease of use and good performance. However, some users wish it had NFC and wireless charging capabilities.

Great phone and great price. I bought this phone because it was one of the last 5G phones available that allowed an external SD card AND a regular 3.5mm headphone jack. No, I don't enjoy paying $1000 to get 1 TB loaded on my phone when I already have a 1 TB card and no, the best Bluetooth headsets don't come close to the best wired headsets. Bluetooth is a convenience that I will use on a call, but not when listening to music.

Score: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A cost-effective smartphone that promises to provide an amazing 5G experience without breaking the bank is the Motorola 5G Stylus. The 5G Stylus is a proud member of Motorola's G series, which is renowned for its reliable performance and useful features. It also adds a few special touches.
Create and Construct: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The gadget has an elegant, contemporary appearance with a plastic back that simulates glass. The front is dominated by a 6.8-inch Full HD+ display with good brightness and brilliant colors. The dedicated Google Assistant button is a useful feature, and the fingerprint sensor on the back is snappy.
Performance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G chipset powers the 5G Stylus, which provides seamless daily performance. Although it might not be able to rival top devices in raw power, it handles multitasking and casual gaming admirably. The 6GB RAM ensures a responsive user experience, and the 128GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD) provides ample space for apps, photos, and media.
5G Connectivity: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
True to its name, the 5G Stylus embraces the future of connectivity. With 5G capabilities, users can experience faster download and upload speeds, making streaming, online gaming, and video calls smoother than ever. It's a notable feature for a device in this price range and adds a layer of future-proofing to the smartphone.
Camera System: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Equipped with a quad-camera setup, including a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens, a 2MP depth sensor, and a dedicated 5MP macro camera, the 5G Stylus captures detailed and vibrant shots in various scenarios. The 16MP front camera produces sharp selfies. The camera software provides a variety of shooting modes and customization options, enhancing the overall photography experience.
Stylus Functionality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
As the name suggests, the inclusion of a stylus sets the 5G Stylus apart in its price segment. The stylus adds a layer of versatility, enabling users to jot down notes, sketch, and navigate the device with precision. It's a thoughtful addition that enhances the user experience, especially for those who appreciate the convenience of a stylus.
Battery Life: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The 5,000mAh battery ensures all-day usage on a single charge, and the device supports 15W TurboPower fast charging. While not the fastest in the market, it's a welcome feature that keeps downtime to a minimum.
Conclusion:
In summary, the Motorola 5G Stylus is a commendable budget smartphone that combines 5G connectivity, a versatile camera system, and the added convenience of a stylus. It may not compete with flagship devices, but it offers a well-rounded package for users looking for a reliable and future-proof device without breaking the bank. If you're on a budget and want a taste of the 5G era with some extra flair, the 5G Stylus is a solid choice.

The only stylus phone in its category

TL:DR: Solid overall phone, a tad overpriced BUT if you want the stylus it is the only affordable option.
Setting aside the stylus, the Moto is a decidedly mid-range phone. The CPU is decently fast although some brief lag is noticeable at times (but it doesn't feel like a 'slow' phone). The screen is clear, but viewing angles are only so-so and the contrast is definitely not among the best LCD. I personally like that it is LCD as there is no risk of burn in if this phone is used to display static images or used as a driving .GPS for example. The speaker is not great, its a single speaker and not especially loud. The case is beautiful and the emerald green plastic looks very premium. Fingerprint sensor works flawlessly. Cameras are 'ok' but not competitive with more expensive phones. The lack of OIS means in anything other than bright light there is a risk of blurry shots. Still, nothing much to complain about here. with 3 cameras and a depth sensor the 4-pack on the back suggests a far more expensive phone.
Battery life has been good, but not as good as I'd expect with a huge 5000mah battery. Weirdly, according to Accubattery mine never charges to full capacity and tops out around 4650mah. That might be the app or it might be the battery really isn't able to take a full charge. In either case, the culprit seems to be the Moto display which constantly wakes up the screen and results in some idle drain. Overall though, this is in the top tier of battery life phones. Charging takes a bit longer than expected, but again given the size of the battery this is expected. No wireless charging support in the Stylus 5g, but honestly I don't mind as charging a battery this size via induction charging is not idea anyway. No NFC either, if that matters to you.
Call quality is quite good (yes, people still call on the phone) and bluetooth, wifi, and 5g all seem to perform well.
So overall, as a phone, the Stylus 5g is a decent entry-level phone with no major complaints.
Now, the whole reason to get this over a considerably less expensive phone is the stylus. So how is that? Well, its also entry level. The phone has no palm or touch rejection meaning any stray touch will be recorded as a pen stroke. That makes for awkward drawing and note taking. The sensitivity is not especially high either, and there is no pressure sensitivity, so the pen experience is better than no pen, but only just. It stores nicely in the phone body and has a very pleasing clicky top. The phone will warn you if you leave the pen behind which is nice. Moto has put some pen features in the phone, but with some weird omissions like the screen shot annotation app has no eraser function.
I don't mean this in a bad way, but this is the worse pen experience you are likely to have on a pen-capable device. Still, it is worlds better than no pen....if you need a pen. This is good for using as a navigation tool (very satisfying), for some screenshot annotations, simple doodling, and scratching out a quick note. it is NOT a drawing or sketching or fine writing stylus.
At the offered price, this is a 3 star phone, the stylus is worth an extra point. As of this review, the Stylus 5g is now the only new 2021 phone that comes with an included pen. Samsung has discontinued the Note line, and its S21 and Fold 3 both support the SPen, but have no place to store it.

Keep in mind, this phone does not exactly work with the Verizon networks. I have it on Google Fi and it work so well! Anyways, this is a good phone for the price. It has some really good features. For one, it has a good processor and a great amount of storage. The screen is very nice, bright and colorful. The emerald color on it is stunning! That’s the first thing people notice when they look at it. The fingerprint reader is fast and convenient. The stylus is made of metal and feels solid to the touch. The battery life is GREAT and it lasts a long time. One last big feature: it DOES have a headphone jack!
However…it is missing some features. It does not have wireless charging, fast charging, an OLED screen, or multiple speakers. The charging is capped low and cannot do true fast charging. The screen is good, but it is not an OLED and it is capped at 60Hz. The loudspeaker is mediocre at best and the stylus is not like the Samsung S Pen which has actual functions. The stylus is simply a smaller version of the universal ones you can get at almost any retailer, but it does work very well. The cameras are okay, but the Macro lens especially could use some work. For a good Android phone, it’s a decent replacement for most. But if you’ve had an OLED, you will be missing that frequently.
The biggest selling points are this:
Well-built
Nice color
Headphone jack!
Very fast with good specifications
Lots of built-in storage with room for expandable memory as well.
Huge battery!!
Fingerprint scanner
5G
List of major cons:
No wireless charging
No OLED
No fast charging
Single mediocre loudspeaker
Stylus is not electronic, but a scaled down universal stylus
Cameras are just “okay”

I've been buying Samsung phones since 2008. But now that Samsung has moved away from expandable memory, I researched other phones available on the market, for alternatives. So, I can tell you, without a doubt, that the Motorola - Moto G Stylus 5G 256GB, is the best. Great screen clarity & size, sturdy construction, fast processor, expandable memory, large built-in memory, great camera, long battery life and at an affordable price compared to Samsung. What more would anyone need in a smart phone?

Was able to activate this phone on my current Visible Plan to satisfy their changes with their new service plans. Upgrading from a 2.5 year Moto G7 Power that I was told was not compatible with their new $30 and $45 plans.
I was mad at first because their IMEI checker told me the phone was not compatible -- but when I chatted them up asking what the problem with having an unlocked phone activated was -- their automated bot asked me for my IMEI again -- and told me it was in fact compatible.
Only problem was getting them to send me a new SIM card -- for the new plans -- the old SIM card was for the old $40 plan -- they said. I had to supply an IMEI from a generator -- just to pass the IMEI check and get a SIM card sent. The bot did not answer my question about how to get a new SIM card -- so I had to figure that out myself.
I seen where the SIM cards are available for purchase here at Best Buy for the new plans -- and I would have purchased one -- if push came to shove. Free is always better -- considering I am a current/upgrading customer.
The SIM card arrived as promised next-day, on Tuesday and actually required a signature. Technically I ordered Sunday evening -- so they did good getting overnight/weekend orders out the door on Monday.
I opened the phone -- love the green color and stylus -- it was showing 50% on the battery -- so I plugged it in to finish the charge -- connected to Wifi and commenced setting it up with Google. Then I allowed all the app updates and system updates to install. There was 3 or 4 security patches and an upgrade from Android 11 to Android 12. The entire process took a few hours -- as I noticed Google Play Store kept doing a lot of updates to itself in the background during all of this -- I let it set for about 20-30 minutes to make sure all the updates were finished.
Once everything looked good -- I installed the Visible app and signed into my account. It came to the order screen for my SIM and had an ACTIVATE button. It had me to put the SIM card in at that time and I followed the instructions and rebooted the phone. The service switched within 3-5 minutes. Some people report issues with this process and it seems to be various reasons it fails.
In my activation -- I think all was OK because my old SIM card was still in my Moto G7 phone and it was able to zap/kill it -- in real time. Some people report having to swap their old/new sim cards in the phone rebooting in between both times -- to get the activation the finish.
Calls, texts, Internet -- all is working on the phone. The only thing that is not compatible is Wifi calling.
I actually looked at Motorola's website and they have a compatibility checker for the phone service you want to hook it up to -- I knew this was about the only caveat. I use this as a mobile phone -- as it was intended -- so no Wifi calling -- is not a deal breaker for me.
Also this is not a UWB phone -- it was meant to connect to sub-6G flavors of 5G -- not mmWave 5G -- and shows that it in fact -- connects to both 4G LTE and 5G depending on signal strength.
With 6GB RAM and 256GB storage -- this by far is the most expensive phone I have ever purchased. Being on sale for 50% off -- helped to put it in my purchase power.
Considering that Motorola will only provide security updates for 2 years -- I find it confusing to have to upgrade so often. Just to get 1-2 years extra with a Google Pixel or Samsung is not worth those high prices. I could buy 3 to 5 of these Moto phones on sale -- for some of the prices they charge for those higher dollar phones.
I have a case for it ordered and recommend any case that fully covers the phone as well as the screen -- Otter-box style. I have purchased 3 prior cases like this for my phones and never had a broken phone when dropped.

I'm a fan of Motorola because of their affordable phones and quality build. My last phone, the Moto G2 Play, lasted me a good 4 years before I decided to upgrade to a new 5G model. The only 2 things my last phone was missing was internal space and because it no longer received any security updates. (Both negative for Android fans). Out of all Motorola phones at the time of release, this one had 2 things I wanted my next phone to have - 1) Larger internal space (for all the apps that seem to update weekly) and at least the current version of Android. The Stylus and 5G were just extra good extra options to have.
I only have 3 complaints. 1) According to AT&T, even though I live in a 5G area, I DO NOT get a 5G signal. EVER. Even when I've driven within a 45 minute radius, my phone has yet to get a 5G connection which is disappointing. As a pre-paid plan fan, AT&T only offers 1 pre-paid 5G plan, which compared to my 4G plan, costs $25 MORE when you add your credit card to the site. Without it, it would cost $35 more. Yes, more things come with this plan, but the fact is, I'm still paying more for the same 4G service on a phone that's supposed to get 5G speeds. AT&T mentioned they sell the same model at their stores, but it has a different serial number, so I'm not sure if I would've purchase this phone at their stores, it would've made a difference. But they do have a system update specifically for the model they sell and not mine. They tried to push the update to my phone, but it made no difference. I understand with all the carriers, AT&T (and other carriers) have yet to roll out a "true" 5G network. So if you get a stronger 4G signal than 5G, you'll get 5G service. I don't know if iPhone or Samsung customers have the same experience in my area because my friends all still have 4G phones.
Battery life is pretty good on this phone. Light use will get you 2-3 days, but I also turn my phone off at night. When the phone first powers on, you will not get any calendar or other alerts you setup on the phone until you actually sign into the phone the first time you turn it on. The load screen is 4 times longer than my old phone which is odd. There is no NFC or fast charge (which my old phone also had). And I don't really use the stylus. Honestly, if they eliminated the stylus and 5G and added NFC and fast charge, this would be the perfect phone for me. Then by the time it was time to upgrade from this phone, maybe 5G will be working in my area to spend more on a 5G phone. On the plus side, there's the 256GB space for all your apps so there's enough space for the constant updates Android apps seem to be notorious for. (Especially any Google apps related.) The camera is ok for taking basic pictures, but obviously not as great as those found on more expensive Android and iPhones.
Overall, this phone is a good deal for a mid-level phone. My advice is if your looking to upgrade to a 5G phone, make sure, from someone you know who has the same carrier that it works in your area. Otherwise, stick with 4G models that offer 128GB space and has at least Android 10. Or if you can wait a year or so to finally roll out but don't want to pay extra for that 5G plan, you can always keep your 4G plan until 5G is better in your area.

One of the two stylus phones left that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. Better specs than carrier versions. Moto Gestures set it apart, like twist twice to open camera, even when the phone is locked, chop twice to turn on LED flashlight. Performance is more than enough for most everyday tasks. One of the largest screens out there, though LCD and not OLED. Stylus comes in handy for note taking. I get 2-4 days on battery usage. A lot of bang for your buck.

Received this a week ago and have been dealing with it. So far so good. One thing I noticed is that this Moto device is more-aligned with Google than my previous Samsung device. While I tried to impost files and some apps from the Samsung the transfer was not clean and I found myself making a lot of manual adjustments for the next week plus.
Of course the Samsung Notes app is not compatible with Moto's so I wound up manually retyping a new things into the Google equivalent. Photos called over took some time to locate and transfer where I wanted them. I will not use a brand specific app anymore.
I have a couple of phone lines on this unit including T-Mobile, WhatsApp and GVoice. I did have issues isolating these numbers so they would have separate ring signals but managed to overcome that.
Calls are clear and the stock storage is very generous as well as RAM. I did install my SD card with data as well.
The MicroSD and SIM chips slide in on a very flimsy tray that I found very fragile, so be very careful. They also have to be seated just right. This item is unlocked so transferring the T-Mobil Sim card made the transfer of service pretty easy but aside from the SIM they will also need the IMEI number of the phone as well as the serial number off the SIM card so copy the SIM numbers before you insert it.
So far charging is OK but really wants a charge block at 1 to 2 Amps output. Smaller ones at under 1A will just take longer to charge. It's too early for me to judge on battery life.
I got this on sale and while some people refer to this as a "cheap" phone, I found this a decent step up for the sale price. I'm still getting used to the interface but getting better.
I also found how to shut off the annoying boot sound "Hello Moto". That was early on the list of kills. Also found some pre-installed apps that I will never use that were also removed like TikTok. Not my speed.
I recommend this unit and generally pleased with it. I'm glad I got this one since the amount of RAM and storage rivaled a Samsug I was looking at.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!! I picked it up last night, and this morning I sat down on the floor of my porch. The phone slid out of my pocket, hitting the wooden deck, and the screen shattered. It was literally 3 inches from the pocket of my sweat jacket to the deck. I have had cell phones for almost 20 years, and this is the first time Ihave ever had one break. In addition, even though I had done a full google backup of the Samsung I traded in, the Motorola would only import 8 of 147 contacts. I 100% regret this purchase. DO NOT BUY MOTOROLA.

This phone seems to be a good value. The battery is robust and says it will last 2-3 days. So far it seems to be living up to that promise, even with Bluetooth on 24/7. The 'cosmic emerald' case back is attractive and the included stylus with a place to stow it in the phone is a real nice feature. Setup was quick and easy and the BB clerk who helped me was able to transfer all information from my old Moto quickly and efficiently. Had to resize some of my wallpapers to fit the taller screen ratio, but overall it works like my old phone with a faster processor, more RAM, and 5G connectivity. The ringer is louder on this one, a plus for me, although it has startled us a couple times! Not too much trouble finding a case, although BB only carried a black one in stock. All in all, quite satisfied.

I lost my iPhone SE when my OtterBox belt clip snapped and the iPhone went tumbling down the road. I had the insurance but alas, Apple and Best Buy said if I could not produce busted pieces then I was out of luck.
So then, what to do. I returned to Android. I had a Motorola Z3 Play that worked fine with the exception of the only feature outside of it being a phone that mattered to me. It stunk on Android Auto.
I asked about Motorola cell phones and Android Auto and no one could or perhaps would, answer me openly. So I bought this phone. I am thrilled it has a headphone jack! I am happy it also has 256 gig of built in memory and a MicroSD slot! But more than anything else, once I discovered a particular setting for Android Auto, it seems to actually work with Android Auto!
I simply went into AA settings and once I had joined my two vehicles and turned off the setting to seek out and join more new vehicles. And...It works nearly without flaws!
Not quite as good as fApple Carplay but it also does things Carplay does not. If the AC is on and a call comes in and I answer, the fan speed is turned down automatically. It plays Amazon Music Ultra HD, Pandora Premium (Family Plan!) and SiriusXM superbly!
It can still become "confused" but that has only happed twice since I discovered the magical setting in AA. The phone works just fine as a phone and the batter will last at least two days, so I've got that goin' for me...Which is nice.
I do have a bit of difficulty with the whole "swipe right/left" thing but that is likely my fault and not that of the phone. I have yet to use the included stylus but it's there if I want or need to. There is not a ton of (UGH!) bloatware and I have begun to delete stuff I find annoyingly useless/vapid. I have downloaded an Onkyo Music Player app and put a 128 gig MicroSD in the phone to put a few thousand songs on that I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally like!
Calls are excellent. I speak with my mother and sister every day on my way home from work and the phone is a pleasure to use in that capacity. And when I am done speaking with my family I turn the music back on to ease my sluggish drive through SoCal traffic! This is an excellent phone and not just for the money. As I said, it has a headphone jack and a stylus and a MicroSD slot! How many "high"/"rear" end phones on either side of the Android/fApple fence can boast that?!
I am so very please with this purchase and if that were to change I would change my review but so far, I am as I said, very PLEASED!
And I think, not feeeeeeeeeeeeel, you will be too. The phone is superb and does all that I want a phone to do. Work as a phone and as a music playback device in my car or truck. Highly recommended?
Yuppers!
Trust me. I know what I'm doin' when I'm reviewin'!
