I bought this phone unlocked as an upgrade from my Moto E 2gen. Verizon took the Sim card from my Moto E 2gen and put it into my Moto g play and forced the activation. Now Verizon's system is saying the phone and Sim card are not compatible. Accessing the Verizon network is spotty at best. Make sure the phone is compatible with the network. Verizon is telling me the problem is that the phone is unlocked.

I purchased this phone as an interim replacement after my other android phone crashed until I could pay that off and upgrade. I have to say that so far, I'm very impressed with this little phone. It navigates flawlessly and doesn't have the bloatware that comes with the locked carrier phones. It was also a very easy set up. My carrier is Verizon. I popped in my SIM card for easy set up and my 32G sd card for expandable memory. Contacts transferred easily and Bluetooth works pretty well. The camera is pretty good for such a basic phone. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase and the price is right!

Good phone with great customer service. The staff offered to get the phone set up with sim card and even helped with getting a phone number assigned! Great option if you don't heavily use your cell phone.

Motorola has long been the go to phone for me with my overseas work. They offer a solid build, near Vanilla Android, which means less bugs, quick updates, and good user experience. Going unlocked and carrier free takes that formula and improves any phone, so the Moto G series has been the go to phone for a few years now. And the G4 Play doesn't disappoint. Everything is as expected, price point is excellent, and the phone is the easiest it has ever been to get. I was met with one rude awakening with a phone that meets all of my unlocked/uncarrier needs...hotspot. Overseas this is not an issue as most carriers don't have restrictions on hotspot useage. Depending on the US carrier it is either included in the service it's an add-on feature, or its not offered at all and previously buying unlocked/carrier free phones meant that you had access to hotspot feature whether paying for it/offered or not. The G4 Play is the first phone I have purchased that has the "Any Carrier" moniker, which allows it to work on Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and their subsidiary offerings. I myself use Cricket a subsidiary of At&t. Cricket used to offer a hotspot feature, then it became an add-on feature, and currently its not offered at all. I've never really needed, but its always been nice to know its there if the situation arises. Having always had the uncarrier phone bypassed this restriction...until now. I am not exactly sure what makes the G4 Play different from previous unlocked variants, but this one does not allow the hotspot feature. When trying to turn it on, you are met with the message this feature is not activated, please call to activate. So not sure why this is the case. Unless it is not truely unlocked/carrier free and since it is touted as "Carrier-friendly" that maybe where the change lies and it has preinstalled SIM settings to allow ease of switching between carriers, which then means its not truly unlocked. While I still recommend the phone, I do so with this one caveat.

It was on sale for 98 dollars after tax. Great value for an unlocked phone, just incerted my chip and was ready to go

I bought the phone for my mother as a gift. She was very pleased. It was available in the store. It was an easy switch between the previous phone and Motorola. She hasn't complained about the phone. It has good reception and you can hear her clearly. Photos are very nice as well. She loves her new phone!

Good phone for the price. Replacement for a broken 2.5 year old Droid Turbo; good speed and response, no regrets.

Works excellent on T-Mobile network and no T-Mobile bloatware taking space on the phone. Cameras and video are excellent.

Camera quality, battery life and screen resolution is pretty good and I am satisfied with this phone for the money I have spent on this.

Was able to get this phone on Ting. My only "problems" are...no voice announce for calls and texts. I guess that's the only pain. Other than that, works fine. Even has FM radio!

The phone is good for the price. We purchased this phone because it was unlocked and supposedly worked on the Sprint system. Yes, it is unlocked and works well on the Sprint system.

For the money, it was a good choice and was an upgrade. My first venture in "unlocked" phones. Never to return to phone-provider bloated phones again.

I like the ease of use. I like the camera. It's by far the best smart phone I had.

Bought this phone to a backup and/or guest phone when they come visit from abroad. Unlocked and stock Android experience for $150 is very compelling and reasonable, the only downside being the maybe delayed Android upgrades compared to Google Nexus or Pixel family.

This is my first Android smartphone. I was an iPhone user before I started using this phone. I was concerned about the transition but it took a day or two to get used to the new interface. I have to say that the phone exceeded my expectations. The camera is great, the screen size is pretty good for reading. I bought the one with 64 GB storage and 4 GB RAM and it never hangs. The only downside is that the size of the phone is quite big and doesn't fit very well in my jeans back pocket but that doesn't bother me very much. Overall, very happy with the purchase. I recommend this phone.

I've been pleased with the phone so far. Snappy performance and very good battery life. Cellular call quality is pretty good, or at least as good as AT&T will allow. Haven't received the nougat update yet. My only qualm is the size. I'm not really a Phablet Phan, and this phone feels really wide and tall. It's not necessarily unwieldy, but just not very comfortable. Some like bigger screen real estate, which I understand, but after using the phone a month I think I would look for something svelter instead of this. Lastly, the Best Buy delivery was atrocious -- difficult to track, and, unlike UPS, whoever the shipper was refused to leave the phone at the Condo front door (8 unit building, so not huge and UPS always does). Instead, not only was half the shipping box crushed, but they left it out on top of the mailboxes in the rain. The experience was so bad I'll never have anything shipped from Best Buy again (unless I can somehow get a commitment that UPS will deliver). I had to go to a local BB store with the packaging and the new phone, and they concluded it was damaged. Luckily, Alan at the Mission Viejo store really helped me out, getting my replacement phone set up perfectly. He was not only well informed and professional, but friendly and very patient, too. He's an example of one of the reasons I rely upon Best Buy. I just won't rely on their shipping any longer.

At the price point for an unlocked phone, it does everything I expect of it. Good call quality, no connection issues, cell or wifi. Mainly use for email, web surfing, reading, social apps, and photos. Completely satisfied for all these uses.
