There is nothing fancy about it, but it keeps the computer from sitting flat. It gets better air circulation that way. And plus, with it flat on the desk, I would constantly brush the large touch pad at the front of the keyboard which would mess with my typing! Some this a laptop can slip off the small hooks in the front of the stand, and I can agree this would only be suitable for the newer notebook-style thin devices. My new laptop is 15" wide and balances perfect. However, my old Toshiba workhorse would not fit.

One, it is metal and my laptop has a magnet in it for holding a pen. When I move the laptop, the stand comes with it. This issue also seemed to interfere with my wifi. Two, it's a bit bulky to carry around for my taste. It takes up to much room in my bag. For these reasons, I returned the product, though it may suit you just fine.
