So before you purchase make sure the area gets enough sunlight

There are a couple of thing to keep in mind when using a Ring Solar Charger. The first being the yearly weather at your location. All Ring solar power devices require three to four hours of direct sunlight a day. If your installation area is frequently cloudy or gets a lot of rain or snow, this could limit the amount of sunlight that your solar power device receives. It's important to note that filtered/indirect sunlight through the clouds will not provide a charge to your doorbell.
The second thing to keep in mind is the doorbell's settings and motion notifications. The more activity your doorbell detects, the more the battery is used to power the live HD video stream to your device. In addition, the battery is also drained each time you use the live view to look or speak through your camera. Optimizing the device's settings, along with the Ring Solar Panel for Doorbells, will in most cases extend the battery life and may even eliminate the need to manually recharge the battery.

It does not charge the battery fully to ensure longer battery life. It mounted easily on my aluminum siding and is keeping my battery in the 70% range. It only gets morning sun for up to 4 hours on this side of the house. So far I am glad I picked it to keep my Ring Doorbell 2 Camera charged.

If your battery life is still relatively short even with the solar power device installed, it means that your doorbell’s daily activities and the subsequent power drain is more than the solar power device can provide. If you receive a lot of motion events in a day, try adjusting your sensitivity lower to cut out some unwanted motion.

It gives you peace of mind whether you're home or away, you will always be able to see what's going on at your house. It also is nice to be able to answer the door through the Ring video, without ever having to open the door to physically interact with a salesperson or other random visitors.
