Customers are saying
Customers regard the Mountable Solar Kit for Ring Video Doorbell 3 and Video Doorbell 3 Plus favorably for its ability to extend battery life and its ease of installation. However, some users experienced issues with the charging functionality, particularly in areas without direct sunlight, and reported compatibility problems with certain Ring doorbell models. The product's effectiveness appears to be highly dependent on sufficient sunlight exposure. Improvements in charging reliability and compatibility would enhance customer satisfaction.

Posted .Hello LADYDEE,
Thank you for taking a moment to leave your review of the Ring Solar Panel. We know how important it is to have peace of mind when it comes to your home security, and having an unresponsive device can be concerning. Please know that we are here to assist and are confident that we can find you a resolution in a timely manner.
After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Solar Panel is not fully charging your Ring Video Doorbell 3. Ring recommends at least three to four hours of direct sunlight, depending on your usage. Make sure there are no obstructions that could cast a shadow on your solar power device, such as an extended roof, tree branches, or bushes. If your installation area is frequently very cloudy or gets a lot of rain or snow, this could limit the amount of sunlight that your solar power device receives.
The solar panel requires direct sunlight. Filtered/indirect sunlight through the clouds will not provide a charge to your doorbell/camera. Here is a helpful article that explains this in more detail: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360061517732-Solar-Charger-and-Solar-Panel-for-Ring-Doorbells-troubleshooting.

Doesn't charge, only trickles
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall it is ok, but I would not recommend this panel. I believe it just trickles the battery, don't rely on this as source for a longevity of battery life. Make be a additional half a day or max a day of additional power based on your on your door bell setting

Posted .Hello Kaps,
We know how important extending the battery life is when it comes to your home security. The Solar Charger requires several hours of direct sunlight every day to recharge the battery. The ability to recharge the battery varies based on device settings, motion notifications, and sun exposure in the area of placement.
If the trickle charge provided by the Solar Charger is not maintaining or increasing the battery life over time, it may be due to excessive activity. The more events captured by your Ring Doorbell 3 the more your battery is used to power the live 1080p HD video stream to your device. Even if you do not answer the call, video is still sent from your Ring product to the Ring servers. To prevent excessive activity, you can adjust your motion settings to a lower sensitivity, disable certain zones, or change the motion frequency.
The Solar Charger should not be causing the battery to drain quicker, and we understand how that could be of concern. We appreciate that you have placed value in owning Ring products for your home. Please visit our community forum at https://community.ring.com/, so that we may provide you with a solution. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Posted .Hello Edub,
We completely understand the relevance of having your home security up and running at optimal use. No need to worry, you have us here today and we'll make sure we get you up and running in no time.
If your solar charger is giving a charge to your doorbell, but the usage is outweighing the current it is receiving, this could cause your battery to still die at a more rapid pace. If you receive a lot of motion events in a day, try adjusting your sensitivity lower to cut out some unwanted motion. You can access this under Motion Settings > Motion Sensitivity.
Please reach out to us directly via our community forum at https://community.ring.com/ so we can find a solution to best resolve this and ensure the device is functioning as it was intended.

Operates Intermittently, No Guarantee of Working

Posted .Hi Gilly.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Solar Charger so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time. We are here today to provide you with education to assist you in finding the best solution for your home’s environment.
There are some troubleshooting steps that you can take to ensure that you have your Ring Solar Charger and your doorbell set up for optimal performance. The device's battery level may vary based on the amount of direct sunlight the Ring Solar Charger receives along with the amount of activity that the doorbell has. It is important to ensure that your Ring Solar Charger is installed correctly and that it is receiving enough direct sunlight to operate as intended. Ring solar devices require 3 to 4 hours of direct sunlight a day. If the weather is cloudy or you get a lot of snow, this would limit the hours of direct sunlight your device is receiving, which would lessen the charge. Colder temperatures can also cause excessive drain to your lithium-ion battery.
Make sure there are no obstructions or objects that could cast a shadow on your Ring Solar Charger, such as an extended roof, tree, or bush. Seasonality and how far north (or south) you live can affect the strength of the sun.
We invite you to reach out to our community if any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Solar Charger. The Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another by sharing their feedback and experiences with each other. Please let us know if we can further assist you!

Posted .Hello Hello,
Thank you for leaving a review. We understand how important it is to ensure that the battery is holding its proper charge and how cumbersome recharging the batteries can be. Please know that we are here to resolve these concerns with you today.
Based on your review, it seems that you are having trouble keeping your solar charger keeping your Ring Video Doorbell 3 battery charged. If this is the case, you may want to adjust your motion settings. Motion Frequency is a control in the Ring app that allows you to customize motion alerts to your home environment and preserve battery life. When the areas that you’re monitoring have excessive or repetitive motions, such as children playing in a yard, you may receive too many alerts, which can drain battery-operated devices too fast. Motion frequency controls were designed to help you get the notifications that you want and preserve battery life. Here is a helpful article that explains this feature in more detail: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003477106-Understanding-and-Optimizing-Motion-Detection-with-Motion-Frequency.
