Customers are saying
Customers regard the Mountable Solar Kit for Ring Video Doorbell 3 and Video Doorbell 3 Plus favorably for its ability to extend battery life and its ease of installation. However, some users experienced issues with the charging functionality, particularly in areas without direct sunlight, and reported compatibility problems with certain Ring doorbell models. The product's effectiveness appears to be highly dependent on sufficient sunlight exposure. Improvements in charging reliability and compatibility would enhance customer satisfaction.

Posted .Hello Shopper13,
Thank you for taking a moment to leave your review on the Ring Mountable
Solar Kit. We know how important it is to have peace of mind when it
comes to your home security and having a device not working as intended can be concerning.
Please know that we are here to assist and are confident that we can find you a
resolution in a timely manner.
After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Mountable
Solar Kit is not fully charging your Ring Video Doorbell 3. Ring recommends at least three to four hours of direct sunlight, depending on your usage. Make sure there are no obstructions that could be casting a shadow on your solar power device such as an extended roof, trees branches, or bushes. If your installation area is frequently very cloudy or gets a lot of rain or snow, this could limit the amount of sunlight that your solar power device receives.
The solar panel requires direct sunlight. Filtered/indirect sunlight through the clouds will not provide a charge to your doorbell/camera. Here is a helpful article that explains this in more detail: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360061517732-Solar-Charger-and-Solar-Panel-for-Ring-Doorbells-troubleshooting.

Posted .Hi there, I know it's important to be able to rely on your home security devices. Solar Panels and Solar Chargers for Ring Doorbells will provide a trickle charge to your Doorbell. You'll need to make sure the Solar Charger is receiving several hours of direct sunlight per day. It's also possible for the battery to drain more quickly than it can be trickle charged, depending on how many events your Doorbell records each day. You can find troubleshooting steps for the Solar Charger for Doorbells here https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/10264201238292-Solar-Panel-2nd-Generation-Small-Solar-Panel-Troubleshooting. Waste of money & time.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Doesn’t work. I have direct sunlight on my doorbell for the majority of the day, the app shows it’s charging but it doesn’t. I wanted to return it but apparently Best Buy only has a 14 day return window which is ridiculous. I’m very disappointed that I now have this useless product.

Posted .Hi Albert. Your Video Doorbell is key to your peace of mind, and I'm happy to offer some helpful information here. The Solar Charger for your Video Doorbell provides a trickle charge to help keep your Doorbell topped off between charges. Depending on how much activity your Doorbell records each day, it may discharge faster than the Solar Charger can provide the trickle charge. You can find some troubleshooting tips for your Solar Charger here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360061517732-Solar-Charger-and-Solar-Panel-for-Ring-Doorbells-troubleshooting. Posted .Hi Greatbuy. Ensuring your Video Doorbell 3 has sufficient power is an important concern and I'd be happy to offer some help. The Solar Charger for your Video Doorbell requires several hours of direct sunlight per day in order to provide a trickle charge. This won't charge the battery as quickly as when you remove it and use the micro USB cable, and you may still need to manually charge the battery if the Doorbell experiences a lot of events or the Solar Charger is not getting sufficient direct sunlight. For more information, check out this Help Center article here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360061517732-Solar-Charger-and-Solar-Panel-for-Ring-Doorbells-troubleshooting. Posted .Hello Jimenez,
We strive to deliver quality products that will serve you in the long run as we understand that you will be relying on them for your home security. The Ring Solar Charger is a small device that is mounted behind your Ring Video Doorbell 3.
The accessory is designed to provide a trickle charge to the battery when the panels at the top receive direct sunlight. If your doorbell experiences excessive activity, the trickle charge may not be able to increase the battery life rather just maintain it. The more events captured by your Ring Doorbell 3, the more your battery is used to power the live 1080p HD video stream to your device. Even if you do not answer the call, video is still sent from your Ring product to the Ring servers. In addition, the battery is also drained each time you use the live view to look or speak through your camera. To extend the battery life, you can adjust your motion settings to a lower sensitivity, disable certain zones, or change the motion frequency.
Your peace of mind is a top priority, and we want to make sure the Solar Charger is performing to meet your needs. Please visit our community forum at https://community.ring.com/, so that we may work towards a solution and turn this experience around for you.
Thank you,
Antonio from Ring

Posted .Hi MrsG. I understand how important it is to have a long lasting battery. If your battery is dying quickly, you may need to improve the RSSI of the Doorbell. You can do this by moving your WiFi access point closer to the Doorbell. You can learn more about RSSI in this Help Center article here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/217271526-Understanding-RSSI-Values-and-Wireless-Signal-Strength. Optimizing your Motion Settings will also help reduce the amount of activations from your Doorbell, extending the battery life. Posted .Hello Happy,
Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring experience with us. We appreciate that you have placed value in owning a Ring device to secure your home. We understand the importance of having a solid charge to your device so that you’re able to have longer charge time between charge cycles. We can definitely assist you with this.
In order to extend the lifetime of the lithium-ion battery, your solar charger or solar panel will not begin charging your battery until its percentage drops below 90%. You may see the solar device’s status as “Not Connected” in your Ring App when your battery is over a 90% charge. This is normal. Furthermore, I have attached a help article that will provide additional information regarding the concern you mentioned in your review: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360061517732-Solar-Charger-and-Solar-Panel-for-Ring-Doorbells-troubleshooting.

Posted .Hi Unhappy. Making sure your Video Doorbell 3 has adequate power is key to your peace of mind and sense of security. Does not work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does not work - don’t buy. I had high hopes for this because at this point I have to charge my ring weekly ( probably due to age of ring ?) I thought this would help me , even a little bit. Nope. The location is bright enough and it is mounted on a house in the sunshine state, Florida. If this charger can’t charge here I doubt it could work anywhere.

Posted .Hello Disappointed,
Our top priority at Ring is to ensure that our customers have the best possible experience with our products. We really appreciate your feedback. Our team is always striving to improve our products and their performance.
All Ring solar power devices require three to four hours of direct sunlight a day. If your installation area is frequently cloudy or gets a lot of rain or snow, this could limit the amount of sunlight that your solar power device receives. It's important to note that filtered/indirect sunlight through the clouds will not provide a charge to your doorbell.
The second thing to keep in mind is the doorbell's settings and motion notifications. The more activity your doorbell detects, the more the battery is used to power the live HD video stream to your device. In addition, the battery is also drained each time you use the live view to look or speak through your camera. Optimizing the device's settings, along with the Ring Solar Panel for Doorbells, will in most cases extend the battery life and may even eliminate the need to manually recharge the battery.
Please reach out to us directly via our community forum at https://community.ring.com/ so we can find a solution to best resolve this and ensure the device is functioning as it was intended.
Thank you,
Antonio from Ring
